One CDMA downside is sending a long text and getting it chopped to pieces,or worse it being received in the wrong order. Is there anyway to make it to as soon as the text hits a certain amount of characters it instantly just turns into a mms?

Not sure about the character limit conversion, but I believe if you add a subject line it will convert it to MMS, then you can type away.

I just purchased my SII and while I love everything about it I'm not liking the keyboard to much. I've come from the Moment with slide keyboard so it was no problem when replying to messages and being able to read what I was replying to. With the SII when I replay in landscape the keyboard fills most the screen and the text box takes care of the rest. I would have thought you could slide the text box down to read the message but it's not doing that. Any suggestions or different keyboards to try that would allow me to see the message I'm replying to while typing?

You can try BetterKeyboard from off the Amazon Market. It was initially up on the normal android market. It costs like three bucks but its well worth it. Its very very feature rich and its the only one that, off the top of my head, has the ability to not show a text box in landscape and just show a keyboard for input. It warns against only working on large screens like tablets, but I've rarely ever had it cause issues for me on this phone.

I would like to see the text box but also have the ability to slide the box down to quickly read the message then finish typing my reply. Maybe it's a different sms app I need? I'm also not a big fan of the little comic book chat boxes. I'd like to see the message fill the entire screen left to right when in landscape.

Oh I'm sorry man, I thought were asking for something entirely different. H'm... hold on moment.
**Edit**
I'm still not entirely sure if this is what you're looking for for.. but as for messages not coming up full screen so to speak and being stuck inside little bubbles, you can use Handcent SMS (my preference) though GOSMS or ChompSMS might do the same thing. I can completely customize my interface so that it looks however I want it. Down to the font and font color of each individual thread, the bubble style of each individual thread, the background image for each thread, etc etc etc. Its neat. Two screenies for you. One with bubbles in landscape. One without.

Is there any way to customize the keyboard? As in make a wider space bar? I keep hitting the . button instead of the space button
Here are the screenies.
**EDIT** Sorry they aren't hi-res. It wont let me upload hi-res pics from my phone using the premium app. Idk why

Swiftkey X
I love Swiftkey X. It has the best word completion. My 2 cents
Agreed, SwiftKey X is what I use. I like it better than the Samsung, ICS, and swype.

I use thumb keyboard
I have started using Perfect Keyboard as I love how it does the macro text replacement kind of like the blackberry's and windows mobile keyboards used to. I can just type br and it will expand it to whatever I want (currently my email address) . I also like the split screen in landscape mode that give you a number pad between the split.
The developer is a member here at XDA.
I do like swyping, does anyone know if the newer versions have customized text replacement or macros? The version of swype that came pre-installed doesn't.

Every time my friend receives a text from my phone my area code says 930 instead of 940 and can't send a text back without sending it to an entirely different contact under the right area code.
Any ideas? I have no idea why its happening he's the only one I know of that this happens to and I figured I'd see if the problem was with my phone.

What app are you using for texting? How long are the messages you're sending?
If they're simple couple word texts, I don't know what to say, but if you get to the point where a text becomes longer than three messages, sometimes, depending on the app, it will force it to MMS instead.
We need a bit more info to see what's going on.
It's a simple text. Just a few words maybe a sentence. I'm using stock texting app. It only does it when I send it to my wife. No one else.

Sure can. I do it all the time. Please note however that once you see the picture in the message box, you will have to hit the key just to the left of the physical center home button and choose duration from the bottom of that menu. From here you can increase the slide duration from the default 5 seconds so the person on the receiving end actually sees the entire animation.
Yes and one other important bit of information to add. The GIF file size should be 1MB or smaller. Any larger than that and it will be compressed into a static image. You can still share GIFs larger than 1MB, but you'll have to resort to uploading the file to Dropbox or Google Drive (for example) and texting the recipient a link to the hosted file.

The main thing that bothers me with the phone app is that you can't set which tab it opens when you open the app. I like going to my contact list first bc it has my favorites up top.

For me its easier than typing their number because I don't have anyone's phone numbers memorized anymore. Lulz.

Agreed about aosp. I've been running that and I'm used to it.
Guess I can always use a different dialer app.

After using the S4 for a bit. This dialer/contacts/people app is a godsend!
I installed exdialer and its pretty cool. I like the stock phone app but just hate having the always type the area code in before it will recommend contacts.

Don't you always dial area code anyways? Been that way for about 15 years for me lol. Then again I do suppose each area of the country is different.

On the aosp dialer and even the s4 dialer you can start to key in the phone number and matching contacts pull up.

Maybe your dialer is messed up then. Mine starts pulling contacts while typing in number. Or maybe I'm just not understanding.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using xda app-developers app
The thing that bothers me is when I start typing in a contact's name or number, it only gives me one contact at a time at the top of the list, with a little box to the left of the input area with the rest of the matches.
Coming from the HTC Incredible, it used to show multiple suggestions at the top of the list.
I played with a ONE in Costco a couple days before I received mine in the mail and it had multiple contacts (though none had pics) up top.
Anyone know how to configure it that way? I've been trying to figure it out
I installed exdialer and its sweet!!
