Yes, their newest Windows Phone is essentially a GS3 made to run Windows Phone 8...could be interesting...wonder how different the hardware is.
HTC HD2 was able to dual boot W7 with Android and I believe Ubuntu, though Ubuntu was some what or very unstable...
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/24/htc-hd2-can-now-dual-boot-windows-phone-7-and-android-promises/
This would be very kool to have on the SG3!

This was discussed in the EPIC 4G forum too, there is a valid point... Windows mobile is closed source, so making a port would be very difficult and highly unprobable due to legal stuff. Closest thing is a theme :/

I don't see any reason why it won't work on our gs3's, I should try it again myself. Really simple to do actually as all the instructions are there for you.

What is special about ubunt.
Would Ubuntu completely replace the Android OS or can you dual-boot it so that you can run Ubuntu while docked via MHL onto a monitor or laptop? When I say dual-boot, I'm referring to something like this:

No android and Ubuntu are 2 different things. They are both Linux but different. The good think about Ubuntu OS is that it runs with arm hardware that's present in android meaning that android phones should be able to run it. I'll be waiting for it to hit and get ported to a bunch of android devices. It will run gloriously on existing android and our s3 once ported. But all we do noe is sit back, enjoy our phones and just wait

Definitely looking forward to this. It also states in the articles that it is the full blown operating system obviously customized appropriately for the interface but I'm looking forward to a full set of terminal commands instead of a condensed busy box.
One of the articles I think pointed to a Nexus in the next few weeks having a download available...not sure if that's true but I'm hoping our famous XDA devs can snag that and work their magic.

Petition to XDA to approach Canonical?
What I would like to see is to see what the interest of the developers at XDA to get their hands on the Ubuntu for Android or the Ubuntu OS for the phones, and then create a petition for XDA to get in contact with Canonical see if there is a possibility to get the XDA developers involved in the forming of Ubuntu OS for the mobile. Just imagine what that could do to help getting Ubuntu out there for mobile devices. I mean. I'm pretty sure we have a bunch of power users out there that would like to beta test it for Canonical.

Most definitely not. I used to own a number of Apple products. Their iOS setup blows. It was amazing 7 years ago or whenever the first iOS device came out, but not anymore. It was very easy to change it over to compile for our phones, ubuntu touch is fast sometimes and slow others. As far as I can tell those issues have nothing to do with anything I changed in porting so that would make it an upstream bug. Gonna have to wait for canonical to push out a new release.

Exactly. I made a build but I wont post it because it take far too long to go back and forth to a regular rom and there are far to many upstream bugs.

It's a completely different experience. Different OS. It's like comparing ios and windows with android.
The main advantage to this though is that it is a bit easier for devs who have android app building experience to port their apps and even develop for.
It's one step closer to getting ubuntus name out there on the level of compition windows and mac have had for so long. The biggest step so far has been steam support for it's desktop version. Windows games are flooding in. Imagine this kind of support on a mobile device. Ubuntu has said that soon the same apps could be used cross platform desktop<-->mobile.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
Another advantage is that officially supported quad-core phones will have Ubuntu Desktop as an option when connecting to an external display.

You would have to write the phone drivers you're self, IPhone 4 drivers and hardware are nothing like the LS970, Which would mean even if you happened to decrypt the entire package and put out .img files (assuming thats the format they chose), If you flash it, you will brick your phone. You would honestly be better off re-writing iOS from scratch.

There are tons of things to allow the look and feel of iOS on Android.
The Android community has lots of problems porting Android OS's to Android Devices as it is because of closed source drivers. There's no reason to get your hopes up on attempting to port a completely closed source OS to a non-apple device. No disrespect or harm intended, it isn't impossible but the way to do it isnt by trying to decrypt packages. The only way I see this happening is to just start writing a new OS based on the ideas iOS has present and how it runs it apps.
