Titanium Backup Question - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Has anyone tried moving all user apps to the Sdcard to have them run out of the sdcard? I would like to run the apps out of my extsdcard.

I did on another device once... some apps worked others I found need to be on internal.... trial and error I guess.I ended up whipping and starting over. It was about a 5 minute adventure that devastated this noob at the time.... I am still a noob... any how IMHO just leave things be and let them default. Unless you have a storage issue..??... I am not really sure what the reason is for having A2sd. I could see it on older devices that has a lack of internal or maybe if using a class 10 micro SD could speed up some applications.... I guess what is your reason for doing it? It if you do do this any ways make back ups and I would only do one at a time and then test. I remember having issues with widgets. Hope this help or some one with more knowledge than me can chime in.

There used to be a hack for it. It's no longer needed.
Moving apps to the EXT-SD card that aren't meant to be there, is just going to cause you problems and with all the storage this phone has is....well, silly.
Definitely don't move apps that you want to start/run at boot, or apps that have widgets (especially widgets you have on your homescreens)

Any benefits of SD partitioning?

I Google's and became more confused on this. Is there any benefit to this other than if you somehow reach Max storage on the phone? So if I partition the SD do I have to us apps2sd? Can I just use titanium backup and put on SD card or does that not us the partition I created? Alot of apps don't work with move2sd app. Apps2sd isn't I'm the market. Also doesn't show much apps and I know the developer has to sign or do something so it will work.. bit don't want people to share for free. But titanium does it was any app.
From what I read this phone doesn't work like a computer with the memory. What I mean is if I use the system app and shows a list of apps running "if you can say running I'm not sure" its not really slowing my phone down. From what I understand is if I force close them I will use more power and CPU when my phone starts them back up...
So is there any benefit? Do I really need to force close any programs or apps that are running and I'm not using. Etc Gmail. I don't use Gmail. Just a example as I already deleted the apk.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
No.generally you don't need to force anything to close. It is possible to come along a ****ty app that never sleeps, but that's rare.
Regarding partitioning for apps2sd, it is very highly unlikely that you need this on the evo or future phones. The benefit is being able to put apps on the card that disallow froyos ability to put apps on the card. You really don't have that many apps that don't allow it.
Check out "sdmove" in the market as the native way to move apps is annoying as ****.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah that app shows only 3 apps I can move while titanium I moved 16.. hit the 1700 mark with cm6 with stock kernel.

Should I un-partition my SD card
I have Apps2SD but I don't see the benefit of it. I just end up waiting longer for devs(like Virus) to work it into their latest releases.
Is there any substantial benefit of having my SD card partitioned and using Apps2SD?
(FYI i have a 16gb class6 card)
Thanks in advance.

* Native move to SD can't move everything (as already stated). Darktremor moves everything, automatically.
* Native move to SD puts everything on the main SD partition, and whenever you plug your Evo in in disk drive mode, the apps on the SD become unavailable. With Darktremor, they all still work, even when the Evo is in disk drive mode.

[Q] How can you tell which apps you can move to sd card?

How can I tell which apps can be moved to sdcard without issues. If you use a widget for a certain app you have to leave it on the phone's memory right? I am using CM7 and I was wondering since it allows you to move all apps or should I uncheck move all apps and then the ones that you are allowed to move will they still have that option? Thanks Again!
Right, apps have to be in phone memory for you to use their widget. I use App2SD (there is a free version) to keep track of what can be moved, is on phone memory, and is on SD.
i was using app2sd up till 3 days ago.
just bought Titanium Backup and i swear i saw somewhere in a batchsomething(?)...
found out i can move more than app2sd would let me do.
cant remember where i saw it @?????
Titanium is good for moving apps to SD too. Hit Menu, then Batch, scroll down to "Move/Integrate". It will let you batch move apps to SD or back to internal. If you have the Pro version it will batch all of them. Even the paid version of App2SD makes you select "Move to SD" for every app.
But, for moving one or two apps back and forth I still prefer App2SD. As soon as you launch it, it shows what apps are internal and external.
Now my next question is...
Are there any certain apps u would leave on on the phone?
I.E. stability issues?
Not dissing on app2sd, it has been a loyal soldier;
why has titanium allowed me to move more apps?
Been considering tasker next.

just how it was programmed. to be able to move any and everything i am guessing. i tried App2sd and it didnt move all the things i needed it to like Titan did.
You don't want to move launchers or anything your phone needs when it boots. I'd say any system app that you shouldn't remove shouldn't be moved to the SD card, since your phone will fail without it.

Leave any system app, on the phone. The only user apps that "need" to be on the sdcard are widgets, or anything that may need to read the phone state, like an alarm clock app/widget.

Rooting and low memory

I searched a good bit, but couldn't find the answer to this specific question. Will gaining root access get rid of the low memory error? I'd just ignore the error, except it keeps the gmail app from syncing. Sorry if it's a dumb question. I was hoping the 2.3 update would fix it, but it doesn't sound like it does, and now it's starting to sound like I may never get it! I may have to take the plunge and root....
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Gaining root itself won't fix the error. However, many custom ROMs have it fixed. Not sure about the Sense ones, but the AOSP ones such as MIUI or CyanogenMod do.
Thanks for your response!

I don't think moving apps to SD works. I had it with a ROM I used and it's not an actual case of low memory. A ROM with the fix does work. I'm using one of WildStang's and it's working great.
Moving apps to the SD card will help (not fix) the issue on 2.3 roms because the .lib files are now moved to the SD card from the /data/data folder (they weren't on 2.2).
Once you get close to the 150mb limit in the /data/data folder you will start seeing the notification (or a bunch of force closes on AOSP roms)
Also the app "not enough space" can alleviate the problem, or an automated cache cleaner.

You mentioned the bunch of force closes on AOSP roms, I had this problem a few times with MIUI and CM7 where out of nowhere it would force close everything and the phone was unusable. Is this related to cache? I read that it might be corrupted contacts that caused the issue.
Man, I can't figure it out this time. Had the DI for 18 months, and I've always been able to fix this - facebook, contacts, or just trace it back to the most recently installed app. This time I can't figure it out. It's so frustrating - 18 months ago and went ahead and spent the extra money to get (at the time) the most powerful phone I could find as far as memory, and got the 32g card to go with it, so I wouldn't have to worry about this. Now I've got plenty of memory, but my phone doesn't think so!
I'm scared to death to root. I'd love to start messing with ROMs, but I'm scared to brick it, I'd be screwed.
Thanks for the responses....
possible fix
You should check out jermaine151's Stock+ version 2.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1260994. I can't personally vouch for it as he just released it and it's a little late to start reinstalling everything, but it looks promising.
This mod will fix the low space problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315372
I have been using it for about a week and no problems at all. Phone seems snappy and no annoying low space issue. It basically resizes the small partition to a bigger one. So no more low space notification.

Move Apps to SD Card

Is there a way? I've tried Link2SD, Apps2SD and Titanium Backup and nothing works. I have games like Most Wanted and Modern Combat and take up 3GB already.

This has been asked a lot of times, so people won't rush to answer your question. I feel your frustration, however. Most people will suggest you just root as the be all to end all. But some people don't want to do that or don't really have the know how. At any rate, another argument is the internal memory is more than enough. Yeah, for people who just play basic games on their phones, and nothing more. For me... I am literally down to about 400MB of internal memory. I have REAL games installed on my phone, that take up GBs of memory, not mere MBs. I, too, have Need For Speed Most Wanted, in addition to GTA III, Asphalt 7, and a few other games that all take up over 1 gig of memory. I bought this 64GB memory, thinking I wasn't going to have anything to worry about, only to find out Samsung found another way to screw us over. It's like AT&T and Samsung have been working hand-in-hand to find ways to limit us. My card is basically useless. I use it for all the movies, songs, and TV programs I have... but I mostly got it for storing my apps.

I see, I appreciate you replying. Sorry for this thread but I do have one more question, about Titanium Backup. I want to make my micro sd the backup location but it isn't letting me. I'm copying the backups via My Files from internal to external. Will it work if I delete the original?

Again, sorry I can't be of more help. I haven't used Titanium Backup since around 2010 or so. I haven't rooted a phone since. I don't remember much about how the apps functions. Don't give up. People will respond to you, they just won't be too quick.

I don't know any way to get around this stuff without rooting... I'm using Directory Bind to move gameloft and EA games along with the cloudcache from the dropbox app. I couldn't get much of anything else running the way I wanted...
I move lots of big files to sd using directory bind. It has been working good for me.

Titanium Backup > Menu > Preferences > Backup folder location
I used ES File Explorer to create a folder on my SD card for this purpose and than selected it as the backup folder.

I know you can copy the backup file to your ex. SD card. You might get an error "checksum missmatch" when you restore it from the phone recovery. I know it will work when you flash it with oden. When you make the recovery. It stores it as a xxxxxx.md5: xxxxx.tar :xxxxximg files
Personally. I would copy the original file to your computer incase you need to restore it later via Odin.
Stock roms are available at Sam mobile forums.:good:

I found this script that turns your extSD card into your internal and vice versa. The script can be set to run on boot and so far for me it seems to be working with no apparent problems!
I'd post my screen shot and link to the video but rules about new members wont allow me.
youtube.com/watch?v=QUF7R0mmk00
seems a lot of people have errors that come up after a while about the scripting method
Ya, I heard about people having issues but so far I haven't had many. .. other than using ROM toolbox to run the script at boot because s manager would not run it at boot and you would have to run manually, which wasn't bad but I like not to have to think about it. Also, I haven't gotten close to filling up the 16gb which is also where I guess people have issues.

I'm not an expert (nor am I affiliated in any way with the developer) and YMMV, but I've had great success using the app GL to SD (available in the Play Store) to move game files onto the external SD card. To name just a few I have NOVA 3, Jet Set Radio, NFS Most Wanted, GTA Vice City, FIFA 12 on my Note 2 (16GB) and my internal storage sits at 2.68GB's. Before I rooted my phone with all the apps I had I didn't have room for the games I wanted, but now I have all the apps I want and space to spare.

Yes
This works - thanks dude! Finds all internal sd data and move to external sd. But you have to ensure the correct folder paths are set first and then use the menu options. Transfers one game at a time (even though it seems allow you to select multiple at one - tick only one each time). Also free on google play store

Aw nuts. I got my hopes up. It's only for GameLoft games (hence the GL I guess). I was hoping to move TTS and GPS offline maps and such.

Nope - if u go to settings and move to sd it will show data that can be moved - most are game data though. (also allowed me to move google earth and ebooks to sd too)
It says it's only for Gameloft games but to me it "seems" to move data from other games and programs as well. If one of the more expert members of the board could try out the program and say what's actually happening that would be great. Because based on what I can see the program does more than just address data from Gameloft games.

[Q] How do I do moves apps to sd?

Hello all! Ive done some research and still am not completely understanding the partition thing. I downloaded an app that was called app2sd (I think that was the name) but it says unable to do so because of a patch that was needed. Can someone explain specifically the process. What is the partition and what about this patch thing? lol sorry but I knew just enough to use the toolkit to root my phone and now id like to benefit from it. Thanks to all who help.

Well from the research I've done after no replies here. They have resulted in the ultimate answer being is yes you can move apps to SD, BUT it takes a process that I don't think I'd be able to do. You have to "fool" your note 2 into thinking that your SD is your internal memory and I don't want to mess things up. If someone has an easy, easy way to do this please let me know. Until then I will just wait til 4.3 update which hopefully apps to SD will be integrated with that update. The S4 in Germany has it, Shortly others shall follow. Well maybe not shortly but eventually haha.

There's an app called folder mount that works with high data games.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
+1 on FolderMount. It's different from Apps2SD. I suggest installing My Drives. It'll help find the files that are big storage hogs.
The problem is how Android setups up the memory because of the ability to have multiple profiles.
I haven't personally tried it on the GN2, but you could tired the function Convert to System App. Maybe through that you can move an app to the SD card.
Not that they all do, but I find the two biggest storage hogs are games and videos. Videos are easily moved. Well, nandroids are too.
That is what's eating up most my memory is videos and pictures. I eventually change it over to where my pics and vids were stored on my sd card but that was after my internal memory was almost all gone. Im just going to get drop box on my computer and store them there so I can erase them on my phone to free the memory. The only reason I didn't want to do that before is because my cpu is 3 4 years old and slow. so I hate getting on it. Ill just suck it up and do it. Thanks guys.
If you set up a google+ account you can use it the same way as drop box and you can also get picasa Web, the cool thing about them is Thayer all free unlike drop box
Give it a try I think that's the best route and you can upload from your phone.
