I purchased new 64 GB SanDisk class 10 sdcard and inserted in my phone. My phone however will not move any apps to the card and none of the apps I have are able to move its data to the new card.
It seems that Samsung used an internal storage as "sdcard" and the true sdcard is called an "external sdcard" that most applications does not have access to / or is programmed accordingly. Which essentially renders the card useless.
Have anyone came across this problem?

There's a thread that goes into great detail on this problem in the international gs3 section. It's actually Google who's coding this in now, but alot of manufacturers are using a workaround, but not samsung. The card is pretty much good for music, movies, and any large downloads you may want to transfer there. To my knowledge Cyanogenmod & possibly AOKP still work the way it should, but touchwiz based roms will not. There is an app somewhere on XDA that will allow you to store large data files for games to the sd, but again, I believe it's in the i9300 forum. I hope this will help you some.
Edit: check out xda tv on YouTube, and there's a recent video from the new girl Erica where she covers some type of work around for the gs3 I think?
Thanks, that almost sounds like it's better to root? Touch Wiz isn't that bad but I am not a fan of it. Samsung was nice to let us disable all bloatware but making the sd card useless is really idiotic. I almost want to say what's the point of the scared then?
I'll do ssome more research on this thanks.

If the app has separate data downloads try this for me, move the data to the external sd card, delete data and app from the internal sd card. redownload app and see if it recognizes the data on the external card. I mad copies as back up of a few big meg data downloads on the external card. I did an odin recovery, when I downloaded the apps again they found the data on their own on the external card.

An interesting thought, I can definitively move data to external card – I’ll try this tonight and report back. Thought even if this works it still isn’t a solution.
For example;
1. Many backup applications hardcode the SDCard’s location which in this case it always will be internal memory
2. Navigation data gets downloaded into internal memory
3. Google music gets downloaded into internal memory, I could not find any option to move it – its simply unavailable.
4. I don’t have to move all apps to the external card, but the few games/apps stored in the external card sounds like a good idea sine those are not essential for me (especially the once with lots of storage requirements).
5. Any podcasts / videos also won’t go to the external storage
6. Some applications lets you backup their settings like preferences RSS lists etc – all those also go to internal memory.
In my opinion the following must happen:
1. “All developers” must update their applications to accommodate for S3’s changed card location
2. Google must update its code and allow apps / data move to external card.
I’ll call t-mobile to see whatever they have to say about this.
I spoke to t-mobile and was told I can return the phone if I don't like it. Essentially the SD card is “useless” and according to T-Mobile’s rep only works with pictures and videos – the phone is sold as is. Apparently they know nothing about this and never heard of any plans for a fix.
They also gave me phone number to Samsung’s support which I’ll call tonight and report back.
I wonder how that works after the phone is rooted with custom ROM. Has anyone tried this? Please let me know if you did….
If your going to return it, simply use Odin to go back to factory fresh stock.
I think this is a push for more of us to use cloud storage which is cool but I like using physical sd card for storage..
I'm having to make do with my 16gb internal as games get bigger and eat up storage. My 64gb is almost useless if I had known this I would have gotten like a 32gb card and saved some cash.

I agree, this phone is FAN-FUKING-TRAGIC.. Best phone by far. Ummm, how do we use the cloud to store stuff though? And could we use it to move apps and free up space? Sorry if my questions are dumb to some, just not sure what the cloud is
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Did you try doing what I said?
The cloud is pretty much a usb stick u don't have to carry around with you. You can't store installed apps there but you can store anything else on it like apks to install later music, docs. Pretty much anything you would store on a usb.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
@ stevessvt Yes I have but it did not work - I am pretty sure I screwed something up
I don’t think I will be returning this phone, there isn’t anything better on T-Mobile unfortunately and S3 has better specs then Latest Nexus. Now I think I will research about S3 rooting and whether it makes sense to root this phone and put custom ROM on it.
Thanks everyone!
This isn't Samsungs doing, it's how Google has made android from ics on. Other manufacturers that make their phones able to install apps on your external sd are using a workaround by modifying the code, but I've read that it's really not ideal? If your using titanium backup to keep your apps backed up then you need to run a backup. Then go into your internal sd & move the TB folder to your external sd. Go back into titanium backup & select preferences from the settings menu. There select backup folder location & hit the Detect button. Now your backups should go to external storage.
You can also go under settings in the stock Web browser & change your download location to external so that large roms download to external sd. If your using the new version of twrp for the Tmo gs3 that they released today, then you can check the box under backup that says backup to external. That will also save room on your internal storage.
Personally I prefer all of my apps on internal. They open faster & write data much faster to internal then to an sd card. I really only use my sd card for holding movies, backups, & large file downloads. As I stated in my previous post, AOKP & Cyanogenmod still can install apps to sd if that's what you prefer. I honestly think we should be able to choose for ourselves, but unfortunately I don't make the rules. If you look in the international section I read a thread somewhere that had an app that will let you store the large data files from games on your external storage. That's the only apps that really take up a significant amount of space. Music can take up a lot of space, but with Google play music keeping 20gb of music in the cloud for you, that shouldn't be much of an issue to those of us who are in good coverage areas. I hope this helped some of you to maximize your storage space.
Just a friendly advice...T-Mobile is the last place you want to go for any answers. The people who work there (most, not all) are complete stupid over the top freakin' idiots. They know nothing and often times just search their data base or google something for answers. Most 99.9% do not have any first hand knowledge of anything about phones. They just know the same $#!t you can read off the box....
Complete idiots..
Anyhow, just hang tight as I'm sure there will be work around this in the very near future. It's not a big deal at all.... just do what fellow member: stevessvt said...it works....
Good luck!

So I'm coming from an HTC phone and I have a TON of bookmarks stored on my browser that I want to transfer over to my new phone. My question is, where can I find my browsers bookmarks using file explorer so that I can zip it up in a file to send to my phones browser? Or is there a better, easier way to do this??

YES! Come join us on the root side, everything is better XD
Additionally to evoer's suggestion, you can also check Link2Sd which is a free app that allows you to move selected apps to the extSdcard. Root is also need for this app to work, so yeah root it! You must partition your sd to have one part FAT32 and one part ext4 partition. There are free apps for that floating around that'll work on PC, not sure if the current custom recoveries have this integrated. I know back in the EVO OG days we were able to partition directly in recovery.
Warning - before partitioning, you must back up everything in the sdcard to you PC since this will format you sdcard.
As for rooting, if you take that road, go this thread found in the Android Development section. It's a tool created by Senior moderator/Recognized developer mskip. Read through the OP and some pages before attempting this. But this is on of the most straight forward and easiest methods available.
Really good instructions too

Im now sporting my new GS3 16 gig using Phantoms Blaze Rom with the extsd2internalsd GS3 64g class10 mobile, internal 16 gig ext.
worked like a charm. Their are some issues where some apps install the app and data into the real internal memory but noting too big, Atleast thats the prob im having. Good thing i didnt spent 400 bucks for the 64 GS3 im a happy camper with this mod.

Just my opinion but if you choose to root it, do it yourself. That way if anything ever does mess up, you can figure out how to fix it on your own instead of going on one of the forums saying "help my friend rooted my phone and now everything is force closing, what do I do?!?".
It really isn't as complicated as it seems, so long as you follow all instructions and there are many here to help of you get stuck and can't find a solution to a problem. However, a decision only you can make if it is worth it. There is always a small chance of a brick. I've done it before but only cause I was a idiot and flashed an international s3 version ROM when rooting my Sprint galaxy s3
I rooted my LG optimus way back so that I could remove T-Mobile bloatware since the phone was crap anyway. Since then, I always root and have become a flashaholic (although wicked sensations v1.1 is keeping me grounded for a bit ). I'm slowly learning thanks to all the great info here, I was all proud of myself for modifying my mms.apk last week and recompiling it with no issues I still have way more to learn but once you start it is like an addiction. Lol.

I don't think there is any need for these kinds off apps/hacks anymore. The original EVO and other androids had horrible memory issues. They were trying to get by with 512MB to 1GB for both the system files and the apps. The big apps like NOVA etc only have a small piece on the ROM portion of the memory. The rest is on the internal or external SD card. So there's no need.
Granted I have the 32GB version with an additional 3GB SD card only because I had it from my EVO days. Most people don't need that much space.

Has anyone tried moving all user apps to the Sdcard to have them run out of the sdcard? I would like to run the apps out of my extsdcard.
I did on another device once... some apps worked others I found need to be on internal.... trial and error I guess.I ended up whipping and starting over. It was about a 5 minute adventure that devastated this noob at the time.... I am still a noob... any how IMHO just leave things be and let them default. Unless you have a storage issue..??... I am not really sure what the reason is for having A2sd. I could see it on older devices that has a lack of internal or maybe if using a class 10 micro SD could speed up some applications.... I guess what is your reason for doing it? It if you do do this any ways make back ups and I would only do one at a time and then test. I remember having issues with widgets. Hope this help or some one with more knowledge than me can chime in.
There used to be a hack for it. It's no longer needed.
Moving apps to the EXT-SD card that aren't meant to be there, is just going to cause you problems and with all the storage this phone has is....well, silly.
Definitely don't move apps that you want to start/run at boot, or apps that have widgets (especially widgets you have on your homescreens)

I have a Note II (Sprint) and i recently purchased a class 10 64GB Sd card, i rooted my phone and followed Galaxynote2root video on youtube (i can't post link but it's the one about apps2sd) https:// www youtube.com/watch?v=QUF7R0mmk00
It did work, it's showing that i have at least 59GB on my "Internal" and my REAL internal is now showing up as SD with 700mbs.
The Problem: While it shows that i have a lot of space, anything i download is going straight to internal (real) not the 64GB card.
What i want be able to do: - To take all my apps/files from my internal drive and move them to the 64GB SD card
- Have any files i download/install go directly to 64GB SD card
I purchased Titanium backup but it's not moving the files to SD it says it moved but storage app is not counting
I'm so confused if anyone has the time to help me i will greatly appreciate it.
Google in all their wisdom removed app2Sd in Android 4.0 and up. This is why we need a 32 and 64 version off this phone. Make sure your titanium backup defaults to your external as well as the camera to save internal space.

I know this isn't the ideal solution, but can we at least move the large Data or Obb files onto the extSD card and then move them back when we want to play the game (Like Asphalt 7 and Dark Knight)?

Sadly no. I've not been able to use any kind of apps to do this.
Between Google Music cache, google maps/earth cache, tumbler cache, Bard's Tale, and Asphalt 7 that's using up almost 9gb of space on the internal "card" partition. It's crazy that the Evo3D could easily move apps/data to the SDCard but we've taken such a huge step back with this flaw.

Huh? There was apps2sd in 3rd party ics builds for my evo4g. It will probably take some time to port it to the various N2 ROMs unless there is some overpowering technical reason for it bot working. N2 is still new and young and devs are still getting the hang of it. Stock OTA might not ever get it but who stays at stock?

In the Play Store description on apps2sd the developer specifically lists the Galaxy Note 2 as a device which is NOT compatible. :crying:, not happy about that one either. Cause with the potential of this device and its display I want to d/l kick ass games but can't plug up my internal storage when I have a perfectly good class 10 32Gb SD card!
The only fix for this to my knowledge at this time(which my knowledge about moving apps to the sd card is not extensive at the moment. I have done a little research. ) the only solution at the time is an available script. Which I saw on Galaxynote2root.com as well. But I am personally not familiar enough with the method nor how it may interact with a custom ROM therefore I am personally waiting for either a clearer description of the process or a different method all together.

I got it guys!
Okay
The video teaches you how to flip your SDcard for the Internal, so the phone thinks you are installing on the internal but it's actually the SD (CONFUSING LOL) So when i went to titanium pro, i was super confused with the whole "Move to SD" i didn't know if it was moving to SD or the Internal since i flipped it was all super confusing to me i'm new to android, i've had an iPhone since the first one and decided to get a Note II about a week ago.
So what i did was just deleted all my apps, followed the video and installed all the apps again from the play store and it went to the 64GB card!!! So yay :highfive:
Apps/games run great not even lag at all, camera/videos save to 64GB so i'm really happy.
Careful with that card. Definitely not as reliable as internal memory. Especially if your taxing it with everyday constant use .
I just ran into this issue, no space at all! I just realized that my titanium had been installing to my internal.

This has been asked a lot of times, so people won't rush to answer your question. I feel your frustration, however. Most people will suggest you just root as the be all to end all. But some people don't want to do that or don't really have the know how. At any rate, another argument is the internal memory is more than enough. Yeah, for people who just play basic games on their phones, and nothing more. For me... I am literally down to about 400MB of internal memory. I have REAL games installed on my phone, that take up GBs of memory, not mere MBs. I, too, have Need For Speed Most Wanted, in addition to GTA III, Asphalt 7, and a few other games that all take up over 1 gig of memory. I bought this 64GB memory, thinking I wasn't going to have anything to worry about, only to find out Samsung found another way to screw us over. It's like AT&T and Samsung have been working hand-in-hand to find ways to limit us. My card is basically useless. I use it for all the movies, songs, and TV programs I have... but I mostly got it for storing my apps.

Again, sorry I can't be of more help. I haven't used Titanium Backup since around 2010 or so. I haven't rooted a phone since. I don't remember much about how the apps functions. Don't give up. People will respond to you, they just won't be too quick.

I don't know any way to get around this stuff without rooting... I'm using Directory Bind to move gameloft and EA games along with the cloudcache from the dropbox app. I couldn't get much of anything else running the way I wanted...
I move lots of big files to sd using directory bind. It has been working good for me.

Titanium Backup > Menu > Preferences > Backup folder location
I used ES File Explorer to create a folder on my SD card for this purpose and than selected it as the backup folder.

I know you can copy the backup file to your ex. SD card. You might get an error "checksum missmatch" when you restore it from the phone recovery. I know it will work when you flash it with oden. When you make the recovery. It stores it as a xxxxxx.md5: xxxxx.tar :xxxxximg files
Personally. I would copy the original file to your computer incase you need to restore it later via Odin.
Stock roms are available at Sam mobile forums.:good:
Swap memory cards
I found this script that turns your extSD card into your internal and vice versa. The script can be set to run on boot and so far for me it seems to be working with no apparent problems!
I'd post my screen shot and link to the video but rules about new members wont allow me.

seems a lot of people have errors that come up after a while about the scripting method
Ya, I heard about people having issues but so far I haven't had many. .. other than using ROM toolbox to run the script at boot because s manager would not run it at boot and you would have to run manually, which wasn't bad but I like not to have to think about it. Also, I haven't gotten close to filling up the 16gb which is also where I guess people have issues.

I'm not an expert (nor am I affiliated in any way with the developer) and YMMV, but I've had great success using the app GL to SD (available in the Play Store) to move game files onto the external SD card. To name just a few I have NOVA 3, Jet Set Radio, NFS Most Wanted, GTA Vice City, FIFA 12 on my Note 2 (16GB) and my internal storage sits at 2.68GB's. Before I rooted my phone with all the apps I had I didn't have room for the games I wanted, but now I have all the apps I want and space to spare.

Yes
This works - thanks dude! Finds all internal sd data and move to external sd. But you have to ensure the correct folder paths are set first and then use the menu options. Transfers one game at a time (even though it seems allow you to select multiple at one - tick only one each time). Also free on google play store

Aw nuts. I got my hopes up. It's only for GameLoft games (hence the GL I guess). I was hoping to move TTS and GPS offline maps and such.

Nope - if u go to settings and move to sd it will show data that can be moved - most are game data though. (also allowed me to move google earth and ebooks to sd too)
It says it's only for Gameloft games but to me it "seems" to move data from other games and programs as well. If one of the more expert members of the board could try out the program and say what's actually happening that would be great. Because based on what I can see the program does more than just address data from Gameloft games.

I just wanted to update my previews post, I'm sitting on 13.70gb of apps and games installed and haven't had any problems!
