Hey Everyone
I opened this thread because I wanted to warn everyone that Touch Recovery made ALL my flashed ROM's bootloop, AND all my ported ROM's that worked, made them bootloop as well.
Sorry to hear that. Have never had a negative experience with touch recovery.

No problems here. Been using it for a while now
The only problems Touch Recovery gave me was properly flashing some ICS roms, and not properly flashing the CM9 Alpha. I was using the custom touch recovery, though, v5.5.0.4 beta 14.

So, overall, which touch recovery do most people use here safely? The 5.5.0.4 or the 5.8 one?

I use the official Touch Recovery installed from CWM app the day it came out and updates and all. Never have had an issue.
Flashed GB roms, ICS Roms. Cm 7. Restored, backedup.. and so on.
I don't get why it causes some people issues.

Hi all,
I am new to android as my personal device, but I am familiar with the OS. I am pretty tech-savvy. However, I just rooted my I-747, and no matter how hard I try I cannot flash custom roms through CWM. Keep in mind both ROMS I have tried are CM9 and 10, 10 ending in a status 7 error. 9 might have as well, but I am not sure. I just know that it was aborted. Any help here, I am not sure what is going on? Any advice would be appreciated.
Are you using the correct CWM recovery? I am downloaded rom manager and installed cwm from there, have had no issues with installing either of those roms. Don't forget to do your wipes before you install a new rom!
Hmmm that may be the issue. I rooted without tripping the flash counter and then had to use adb to get cwm working. Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it from Rom manager?

never mind i figured it all out! Thanks a bunch!
You can always try TWRP out as well.
Just push it to the phone via ADB or use a terminal app on the phone.
I like it more than CWM. :good:

Hey codycorexxx.... quick question on that. I have twrp as well...might sound silly...will it restore a CWM backup? I made a copy of my nanorid backup to the twrp folder. It shows up under the restore option when IN that recovery...just wanting to make sure should I need to use that backup....twrp won't have a problem flashing it.

Good thing you asked. Who knows what might have happened. I just remember reading in the TWRP thread it was incompatible. Not gonna take any risks trying myself haha.
Hi guys, new to rooting and android in general.
I have a GS3 with Videotron and I root the device with a older version of CWM.
I installed ROM manager but it always says that CWM Recovery is not installed on my device.
So I went ahead and updated CWM to the lastest version (Not touch), but I still have the same issue.
From what I saw our device should be supported by ROM Manager.
Is there something I am doing wrong ?
Thanks a lot !
how did you update cwm? I had to do it through Rom manager

I did it in console because ROM Manager says CWM is not installed, so I can't update.
It tells me I have the latest recovery but I have the touch recovery 4.8.4.5 or something... I installed through terminal though.

If I can't get Rom Manager to work the other way to backup is doing it from recovery directly ?
Thanks !
EDIT : I guess I should add that when I try the option Flash CWM Recovery my the Galaxy S3 is not in the device list.

My guess for this is that you have the T999V. I would think they woulda covered that when adding support for the s3, but maybe they missed it?
Check the cwm website and email them if you cant find confirmation of this either way.

Try using TWRP 2.3.3.0 as your recovery system instead, it's more up to date and is reliable. Just flash it through Odin, afterwards, you should be able to install and boot the ROMs perfectly.

If you don't mind switching to TWRP as the guy above said, then I would switch. If you like CWM, then make sure you aren't using the super wipe scripts on CWM versions other than 5.0.X

Yep. As long as you are rooted.
Twrp (like all those people said) never had any problems with it and it's the most convenient recovery out there.
