*Touch Recovery Causing BootLoops* - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hey Everyone
I opened this thread because I wanted to warn everyone that Touch Recovery made ALL my flashed ROM's bootloop, AND all my ported ROM's that worked, made them bootloop as well.

Sorry to hear that. Have never had a negative experience with touch recovery.

No problems here. Been using it for a while now

The only problems Touch Recovery gave me was properly flashing some ICS roms, and not properly flashing the CM9 Alpha. I was using the custom touch recovery, though, v5.5.0.4 beta 14.

So, overall, which touch recovery do most people use here safely? The 5.5.0.4 or the 5.8 one?

5.8

I use the official Touch Recovery installed from CWM app the day it came out and updates and all. Never have had an issue.
Flashed GB roms, ICS Roms. Cm 7. Restored, backedup.. and so on.
I don't get why it causes some people issues.

You have to flash a diff kernel for a diff recovery, but you have to chose a compatible kernel config'd for CM9. The nightlies have the latest FF18, so you might be confusing that for the old one. Current version 5.5.0.4

[Q] I messed my cwm recovery up >.<

okay long story short: i tried to install cwm touch (recovery-cwm-touch-6.0.1.2-i9300.tar), got a black screen on every recovery boot. installed regular cwm (CF-SGS3-CWM-v5.5-v1.5.tar), got black screen. installed stock recovery, and that worked butI just want my old cwm recovery back that got installed when i rooted it. i also tried to install twrp touch and it got a black screen too. is there some simple fix that i'm missing?
p.s. i am running the october 10th cm10 nightly with leankernel
Odin twrp then use Rom manager for clock work mod.. Worked for me and I was having the same problem

Had a brain dead moment xD I didn't even think of flashing it from rom manager! Duh! Thanks man

Umm just for future reference, never flash something made for the international S3. It can brick your device. It has different hw and a different partition layout.

I'm not saying that you are too lazy to do a simple search, but....well, you ARE!
So here:

I have been using cwm for ages but this 6.x.x.x crap caused me to much grief so now I run twrp touch and won't go back.

Ugh, don't listen to any of these guys. Anyone with issues on either recovery simply don't know how to use them. Best advice I can give you is to NOT USE THE DARKSIDE CACHE OR SUPERWIPE with CWM 6.0.x.x.
They break your CWM installation. Other than that I feel the same way you do. TWRP is great but I'm just used to CWM and prefer it. It's been on all 6 android devices I've owned and I trust it. Hard to break old habits!
Also, use the steps in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1926754 to flash your ROMs. Should be smooth sailing. Either I'm lucky and my phone is perfect or my flashing method is key but I never have any issues with any ROMs that aren't already established by the original ROM developer.

Funny thing is when the Evo came out we all used AmonRA and that was the recovery to have and I must admit it neva eva eva eva caused me a problem. Clockwork was the bad stepchild over there so I stayed away from it. So to me old habits are not to use CWM not saying its bad but I had it on my Xoom and my Epic touch but now they both rock TWRP and itz the shiznicks..... To each his own

Agat recovery

Is this really a bad recovery to be using. I always used clockwork on my HTC devices and when i rooted my epic touch i ended up with agat. Would it worth going through the trouble of installing a new recovery to get clockwork?

Sooooo, is it worth keeping or should i go through the trouble of installing clockwork.
And if i use Odin lite and flash the gb kernal with clockwork i can them boot into recovery and flash whatever i want?
And one more thing. I have a usb jig coming in the mail. If i am going to be doing all that should i wait till it comes in in case i need it or is it simple enough that i shouldn't worry.

Agat recovery is good for touchwiz based roms. I have flashed many ICS roms and zips using this recovery.
Regarding your questions if you want to flash a new rom follow the instructions in the OP of that rom, don't over complicate things. I use el26 recovery to flash roms. I load that using Odin from PC.
Its good to remember kernel and recovery are combined with this phone. Keep agat. If you want to go to jellybean get el26 kernel by chris41g. Also remember you will have a new kernel and recovery after you flash something.

Your not alone with problems with TWRP. It constantly froze on my device I couldn't get into recovery. Luckily it unfroze long enough for me to install CWM touch. Since I've download cwm I haven't had a single problem with it. I download Rom Manager from the playstore and got my CWM touch downloaded and installed through Rom Manager. .it has not given me any trouble. But when I had twrp I had nothing but problems. Give cwm touch a try installed through Rom Manager.it worked Perfectly for me. It never freezes nor gives a blank black screen like TWRP did .TWRP froze my device completely and I couldn't even get out of it. Not even a battery pull would pull me out. I was very lucky it unfroze long enough for me to get CWM recovery touch installed through Rom Manager.many have reported similar issues with twrp. Try installing cwm touch through Rom Manager and see if that helps. It fixed all my issues. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
