My 3 yr old dropped my phone and scratched my screen to hell. Should I return to factory settings and unroot before I take it in to sprint? Also what is it going to cost me?
Thanks in advance!

You will need TEP insurance.

i got screens forsale! $45. but TEP might be free.
Yeah I have an extra lcd/digitizer
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
TEP deductible is a $100 or $150, so you might be prepared for that.
I was reading that if you have insurance they replace it for free but because it's for cosmetic damage i believe they charge 45 or 35

If you have tep, the screen replacement is free. They may not replace it fire just scratches though, might have to be cracked. if they are out of screens they should order you a new phone.
So, what you're saying is... stomp on it.

Sounds like it to me.
Here's one for you...
I have an evo with a couple bright spots on the screen (from impacts) and a lack of rsa keys...(tehe) I have insurance so do you think I could call cosmetic on the screen? How much would that be? This isn't crucial so it's no big deal but if you guys think it would be free I might go for it. The reason I ask instead of just going in is that im at college and getting to a sprint store is damn near impossible.
when I bring the phone in I should unroot it and put it back to stock correct? I have heard if the techs figure out it has been rooted they will red flag your account.
Always RUU before bringing your phone to Sprint. Always.
Yes definitely go to stock. They will poop on you if you have rooted and you go to them for help.
Swyped from my Evo on steroids.
Does anyone know if there is more then 1 water indicator on our SG2? And if so where? Can Tmobile actually open the phone apart and see if there was water damage to the phone besides looking at the water mark(s)?

Are you asking for help in defrauding T-Mobile with an insurance claim? Or is this a theoretical situation that never happened?

Probably the former.
No, t-mobile isn't going to open it.
Samsung will and they'll probably tell t-mobile what happened.

theoretical. so is there only 1 water mark?
There is the one under the battery which tmobile will check out. There are internal water detectors i believe that the manufacturer should check out if lets say you send it to samsung instead of tmobile. Not quite sure how thorough tmobile is as far as that goes. Better safe that sorry though. I like how people jump to the conclusion that by asking a question they are trying to scam t-mobile. LOL

Very unlikely although it is possible. It would be hard for them to say for certain that any discoloration on labels or anything was caused from liquid. 99% of the components inside the phone cannot be damaged by water unless there is power applied while wet. It the liquid acting as a conductor and shorting pins together that ruins the phone. That is why if you dry a phone well no damage occurs.
We wash all our circuit boards in a dishwasher and dry them before final test, to remove flux and resin, you cain't tell when they are dry that they have been washed.
how about if someone was selling me a phone and i wanted to make sure it was not water damage just because they change the water mark indicator behind the battery?! I have bought other phones then realized it was water damage when i tried to get warranty to cover it (iphone) pretty much got screwed over.
I wanted to know the very same thing when Telus gave me back my phone unrepaired saying that there was water-damage. I was angry because I had never wet the phone and the external indicators were clean.
I yelled and complained and the crappy shop they sent it to sent back photos of my phone's board. They circled some dirt/salt or something, but there were no internal indicators that I saw. When I contacted Samsung directly they fixed it for me and apologized for the 'confusion'.
If your external indicators are clean, then you can always argue that this proves you used your phone properly and normally (and kept it out of water). If internal indicators show liquid, its evidence of some kind of defect that the phone is unable to vent the humidity or something. I think this would stand in small claims court.

By your logic, OP is payed for the phone , he should be covered no matter what. Or he payed for insurance and should be covered even if the phone was dropped in a toilet.
and anyways, maybe he's buying a used phone and wants to check if its damaged. Cant just assume fraud
Either way, its best not to submit a claim if there has been any damage to the device. The fee can get a little large, usually more than the php claim

i believe that there is another sticker inside the phone somewhere, so t-mobile will open it and check for water damage just in case you wanted to send it back to them. Ive read it on a thread here before if i can find it ill post a link..

if you are attempting to get around a phone warranty that is illegal to tamper with and then submit a claim. Just the same as claiming a lost phone and selling it on craigslist.

Thanks. This is good to know in the future. Im past my 14 days already so I wasnt able to add Tmo insurance but $177 isnt bad at all. But I assume you have to send it in and I wonder how long that would take. That's the only drawback but still better non the less. Did you call samsung support or did you chat with them? Also Tmo will cover software issues for 1 year for free but you just have to pay $20 to get a replacement, and after you get a replacement they will ask if you want to add insurance. Once you have tmo insurance then its $5 for software issues and $130 for physical damage as that goes through Asurion and not Tmobile technically. So thats another route if you didnt get it within 14 days of your contract. I Know its too late now but once your phone is fixed you have that option still.
I'm thinking about going through Squaretrade insurance too but you also have to send them the phone for repair. Its avg about $5 a month with their 2 yr insurance plan. But I dont recall if there's a certain period that you have to apply. It might be 30 days within your contract. I have to double check.
Here's the one for squaretrade with $99 deductible

Not at all if it is just screen damage which u say it is then they are literally going to unscrew the screws on back take the board out replace screen put motherboard back in and that's that. I'll tell u what let them do it. There is a little more involved to it then that won't get into detail but I did two friends screens and the one kid wanted the black face or the dark face(screen that's on pebble blue) on his white gs3 and it was a *****. Taking the board camera, connectors all that was easy....its the glue that holds the screen to the actual housing that is hard to get off. And u have to get it all off for screen to sit in there nicely anyways he liked the job I did it actually looked cool minus the white home button. Anyways good luck send it to Samsung now but after go with ensquared or squaretrade

Hi,
What about buying the screen from ebay and trying to replace it yourself? It might be a little complicated and hard without having proper skills but you can try it out.
I have owned an iphone 3gs in a past and once when I cracked the screen I replaced it myself saving lots of money. It worked just fine. You can give it a try but I'm not really sure how hard it is on samsung.
And yeah, it was a digitized, and a display itself

Alright, so the unthinkable happened. Yes, I dropped my beloved Note II. Less than two weeks into owning it, too.
The drop was about 2 feet and landed on my foot, then bounced onto a tile floor (yeah, I know). The fall was light and hardly made a sound, but alas I now have a spiderweb originating on the left side of my screen. It's not too bad but here are some pictures so you know the kind of damage that can befall your phones.
It was VERY difficult to take pictures of, but it's easy to see under a light. I just thought some of you might want to know how easily the screen can be broken.
If anyone has any advice on dealing with this, It would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm in Canada with Bell, and have their smartphone premium care plan. I haven't spoken to anyone yet as this happened this evening, but it looks like it only covers accidental damage resulting in failure, for which i have to pay 150$ for a new phone (that seems to be the only option). So for now I think I'm stuck with a very sadly broken screen. If anyone cares, I'll update later after I talk to them.
I have same plan with Bell. You will be covered. Just have to pay the $150 on your next bill and send in your old one. My daughter dropped a 3 week old bold 9900 into the toilet and it was covered!

same happened to mine today but the damage is much worse.
If anyone has experience with repair options I'd love to hear about it.
I got mine on release day, and the guy in the store took their demonstrator to lunch and dropped it. Cracked the screen on the corner.
I replaced the screen on my Inspire and it wasn't too bad. I watched the video of replacing on the GN2 and it looked quite a bit easier, so I think you would be fine trying to replace yours. Good luck
Too funny. I did the same yesterday. Had it sitting on my wallet face down on the kitchen table and it slid. I caught it with my legs, rolled off my foot and hit the ground. About a 6 inch fall at most. Two big cracks and a chip. Two generations of notes, two broken screens Haha.
Have a square trade warranty and the phone actually functions like normal so there is at least that.

The problem is that I'm not sure if it's just the glass on the front that's broken, or the OLED/ touch panel itself (since I believe it is a single panel on this phone, right?), which is at minimum 200$ to order the part. I am entirely comfortable replacing it myself, though I don't want to pay that much if I can avoid it.
I'll take it to the Bell store tomorrow and see what they can do before doing anything else though.

If you can turn it on and see the OLED is providing images then its fine. The didgitizer is all you need to replace. The ifixit link is the best place to learn from. I replace screens on many phones and as long as you follow the golden rules your going to have a great repair experience.
1. Ask or search before you guess
2. NEVER EVER force anything. If it wont budge seems to require force. Check your sorce and ask first.
3. Double check all your connections
4. Keep a clean work space with plenty of light.
5. Stay geounded. (Usa a mat, strap, or whatever.)

They have 2 insurance options
1) $7.00 - Insurance Only
2) $10.00 - Insurance + Better CS + GPS Location Services
When I was in the store to change sim cards, the in store rep told me only the $10.00 was available. However, when I called into AT&T CS, they allowed me to chose just the $7.00 option. $200.00 deductible still applies.
I believe it was covered in a previous thread, but Best Buy insurance does not cover lost or stolen phones.
