Well I read a lot of places that it couldn't be done. I have successfully replaced just the glass. I recorded it on my Gopro so everyone can see how its done. If you find it useful hit the thanks Make sure you spread this around so people stop buying 300 dollar full LCD assemblies.

Nice! Lots of people have been waiting for this kind of vid!
Might be useful if it happens to me.

Remember LOTS OF HEAT I recommend http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-watt-dual-temperature-heat-gun-572-1112-96289.html and use it on low.
That's exactly what I was going to use, I've got one from Debadging my STI.

Lol nice
Man, excellent job. My only complaint would be the fingerprints on the lcd/glass. Sadly, I'm assuming you can't wipe them off since the LCD would break, right? I'm a cell phone repair technician and I've attempted the same thing you just did and had to replace the entire assembly simply because I broke it taking it a part. Any pointers on cleaning the LCD/Digitizer without breaking it? The customers at my shop wouldn't be happy in the least about a single smudge. (I know, I know ...)
Thanks,
Rob

I noticed a lot of people talking about the blue/white only, but I am seeing red on ebay. I am assuming that this would be the same as the blue/white? I want to keep mine red. And should I invest in a heat gun, or can I use a hair dryer?

Its really up to you. I like the extra heat but it seems people have had success with Blowdryers. I would just hate to crack he AMOLED because the glue was still tacky.

Lord but I HATED that scratch. It ran from the top of my precious EVO's screen all the way down to the middle. It haunted me. It taunted me. It nagged at me. No matter what I tried, nicer case, higher quality screen protector, the SCRATCH was always there, mocking my existence.
So I took it to Sprint, paid $35 and they replaced the whole damn screen, LCD and all. El scratcho diablo es el gondo!
** NOTE - Yeah, I have insurance on the phone but insurance doesn't cover cosmetic stuff. I could have just busted the screen before I took it in and gotten it for free but I was afraid I might break the whole phone in the process and end up paying a $100 deductible and waiting on a refurbished POS. Plus there was that small issue of lying, karma and damage to my immortal soul.
I paid the $35.
cool story breh
lol @ el scratcho diablo
glad you got it fixed.
How does you scratch it? i was under the impression that you would have to try pretty hard to do that.

Actually quite easy to scratch. If you run a razor blade across it sharp end down, it wont scratch, but if you dragged the pointed edge of the bladed sideways across it it would scratch. Jagged sharp things can scratch it.
I dragged a piece of paper with a sharp staple on the bottom across it and it scratched real good.
Seems like a very reasonable fix for $35. I wonder if all sprint repair centers have that option though?

why don't you get ghost armor. spend another $35 to make sure it never happens again, or at least $20 for just the screen protector.
glad to hear they did this so easily and reasonably priced though.
My local Sprint repair center told me the same thing about 3 weeks ago. I was in getting my speaker replaced and they were telling me prices on different things. Glad I always pay for insurance on my phones. Now my finace wont put a screen protector on hers. She said she would rather pay 35 for a new screen than 20 for a protector and lose some of the look and feel.....made me think about doing the same

Actually I'm a big screen protector guy. However as fate would have it, I was changing out screen protectors and messed up the new one. Couldn't get back to the store that day and that's when I got the scratch from hell. Just bad luck.

Good to hear of your experience. $35 seems perfectly reasonable - especially since the parts for the EVO are sometimes selling for far MORE than that Ebay - and they do all the work replacing it for you.

Dont buy it. People arent buying for a reason. It doesnt protect front of phone plus the gold paint may lustre only for a while. More importantly, it's the price of a cheap phone! Mate, you already have 7 cases. There's a risk of ending up $pending more on cases thqn the actual phone. Trust me, was going in that direction too until I saw my bank statement. My worthless advice: Stick to casemate tough if u have it...not much better out there

Not my style, I'm sorry to say.
I had a feeling that would come up. How much do you donate? Are you living on existential minimum yourself while donating the rest to the ones in need?
Am I obliged to give what I've got cause I'm human? I've got what I have because of me, and while I do agree more help should reach the needy instead of the bureaucrats I won't take it upon me to rectify the situation - there are far more involved people looking our for that. My government hands out money from my taxes to the ones in need, research Finland if you must. Should I donate from my already taxed money even more?
Why shouldn't I be the sole beneficiary of my own work if I choose so?
I do with my money as I choose and leave the rest of you to do what you choose.
I realize it was merely a suggestion, and I mean no harm. Please excuse my ramblings.
tl;dr Silly OT, disregard this post.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I only mentioned that because you said you are bored and want to 'burn' money, just that there's a lot more meaningful ways to utilize funds. No need to get defensive, ultimately it is your choice.
And need not to reply to this as it is getting completely off topic and provides absolutely no value to the thread.

I noticed the other day when I was playing n64oid and fpse with sixaxis contoller app using MHL to HD adpater. Since the phone is charging and displaying on the tv as well as running 2 apps it gets pretty hot.
So I started looking for a portable fan that i could set behind my phone why using the kickstand on the case to blow some cool air on it. As well as keep me cool
I finally found the smallest fan ever and has really good reviews.
(click picture for where to buy)
I will update this with how it works when I get it...if it doesn't work that well then I will still use it as a portable fan.
Yes I know you can underclock but you don't want to when you are playing emulators that need lots of power!!!
Yes you can kill apps but never liked doing that....
Just thought I share in case someone had the same thought I did.
I don't think a tiny little fan could really cool down your phone too much, nor keep you cool.

Haha, people will make anything to make a buck or two. If my phone begins to get a bit toasty, I usually just take it out of the case and lay it on a cool surface for a bit. That seems to do the trick and it's free, lol.

I found a flat heatsink that could possibly be made into a back cover, but we would ideally still need some way to solidly connect it to the hot parts of the SoC. It would involve breaching the plastic "firewall" of the housing, and replacing it with a short section of copper plate (i.e. a penny). Using a little thermal compound would make it even more effective at removing heat.
Can you picture this with a cutout for the camera pod?
On the liquid cooling front, I found some USB powered water pumps and cooling block.... If your Gnex is getting this hot, you might have a problem.
Hold the phone! This is much closer to the size we need. Peltier coolers work on thermocouple effect. It might use a little power, but will actually reduce temperature on one side, by a few degrees!
You could buy a mini fridge, then drill a hole in the front for wires:silly:
You can then also have cold drinks whilst playing your n64 games

Might have, might have not. On my S4 I shattered the Tempered glass pretty bad. Wasn't sure if it saved my screen. Took it off and screen was without a scratch. I've had great experiences with the Iloome one. The regular one, not the flex. And it's way cheaper than Spigens. Plus it feels like nothings on and a little extra protection won't hurt.

in the current state the phone is worse than in repaired category and this kind of damage can't be healed without repair.
Ok, then you go to next step, polishing cream for cars, its better to start with fine and then medium... Try to leave it for some hours and then with circular moves remove the cream! Good luck!

Since we don't have the extact specs of this material we have to go step by step to extinguish any abnormalities in the surface.. And of course and not kidding! This is my profession... Anyway if you know the kind of the material used, you can share the source of it with us! Thank you and Merry Xmas to all!!

can u tell exact tutorial of toothpaste i might be doing it wrong way
And what qualities to look in while buying the paste because i have seen some threads where toothpaste made hell lot of difference

Baking soda and toothpaste is used for pa and pp polymers which are generally soft materials. You can find some useful info over the net. If by any chance the material used is plain glass, then it's possible to change the part of use a special resin substance to fix the damaged surface...

Did anyone try any of these solutions ?
I have succesfully removed bad scratches from camera lens with my girlfriends nail tool
There is polishing tool that i attached it to cordless drill -> Success
It took only few minutes with some stops to avoid overheat of lens.

Toothpast will be temporary, at most.
You should try what was posted above or get a "headlamp restore kit".
Basically, what you will need to do is:
-Get rid of the scratch and level the surface (with abrasiv paper)
-Get the shine back (with a compound of some sort)
