It cost me $35 bucks but the SCRATCH is GONE! - EVO 4G Accessories

Lord but I HATED that scratch. It ran from the top of my precious EVO's screen all the way down to the middle. It haunted me. It taunted me. It nagged at me. No matter what I tried, nicer case, higher quality screen protector, the SCRATCH was always there, mocking my existence.
So I took it to Sprint, paid $35 and they replaced the whole damn screen, LCD and all. El scratcho diablo es el gondo!
** NOTE - Yeah, I have insurance on the phone but insurance doesn't cover cosmetic stuff. I could have just busted the screen before I took it in and gotten it for free but I was afraid I might break the whole phone in the process and end up paying a $100 deductible and waiting on a refurbished POS. Plus there was that small issue of lying, karma and damage to my immortal soul.
I paid the $35.

cool story breh

lol @ el scratcho diablo
glad you got it fixed.

How does you scratch it? i was under the impression that you would have to try pretty hard to do that.

Actually quite easy to scratch. If you run a razor blade across it sharp end down, it wont scratch, but if you dragged the pointed edge of the bladed sideways across it it would scratch. Jagged sharp things can scratch it.
I dragged a piece of paper with a sharp staple on the bottom across it and it scratched real good.

Seems like a very reasonable fix for $35. I wonder if all sprint repair centers have that option though?

Haha....aaaaaaaand saved

why don't you get ghost armor. spend another $35 to make sure it never happens again, or at least $20 for just the screen protector.
glad to hear they did this so easily and reasonably priced though.

My local Sprint repair center told me the same thing about 3 weeks ago. I was in getting my speaker replaced and they were telling me prices on different things. Glad I always pay for insurance on my phones. Now my finace wont put a screen protector on hers. She said she would rather pay 35 for a new screen than 20 for a protector and lose some of the look and feel.....made me think about doing the same

Actually I'm a big screen protector guy. However as fate would have it, I was changing out screen protectors and messed up the new one. Couldn't get back to the store that day and that's when I got the scratch from hell. Just bad luck.

Good to hear of your experience. $35 seems perfectly reasonable - especially since the parts for the EVO are sometimes selling for far MORE than that Ebay - and they do all the work replacing it for you.

Bought the same protector from Amazon for $5. Great fit, well worth the price. Looks like it'll protect it.

I had a similar one on my Asus Transformer. The back on that is far more textured than the E4GT and it stuck just fine.
I'll post pics once I get it installed. Maybe a video of me trying to install it just for lulz.
mine still hasn't shown up; must be on that slow boat from China, Utah!
I put it on, and took it off. Hated it. Im going to stop dealing with these cheap skins and screen protectors. Going to just spend the money to get the legit one from Steinheil. I have went through like $10 in these cheap protectors.
I put this entire one on on Saturday night....took it off Sunday during Sunday Night Football.

Which one did you get? I kind of like the Crystal Clear one but also am tempted by the one that resists finger prints.

Got the crystal. I read on the other thread that you barely get fingerprints and all that. Plus I want to keep that sexy clarity
got mine, and installed it, and, actually, its a lot nicer than I thought..
I also got that combo holster/black case from the sprint store, and, the phone fits with the complete cover into the case; so, the phone is completely covered with that clear protective material, and, the case is providing additional protection..
I figure between the 2 things, I should be pretty well protected until Ballistic releases their case for this thing soon..
In for one. Looking for basic cheap skin for the moment.

I guess the combination of cold pavement and face down is also bad for phones. Surprisingly the case stayed on and tried to do its job. Now I have to try to get the local Sprint store to do a screen replacement. Thank goodness for insurance but damn waiting for them to open.
Not sure if I should be happy or not that my SGP Steinhall Oleophobic screen protector isn't in yet.
Anyway, you guys know if they will try to push a refurb phone on me or just do the screen replacement?
ouch that's gota hurt
From what I've read in the forums it cost more to replace the screen than to do a warranty replacement. And a Sprint repair tech said Sprint doesn't have the screens.

But mine was a more or less a screen defect. It had a heavy blue tint at off angles.
I was told that they aren't allowed to open the phone up for repairs for 3 months according to the agreement they have with Samsung. beyond a reset and battery replacement, they either give you a new phone for software malfunction or for physical damage refer you to an insurance claim. My buddy works in this repair center and tried to look for the screen part but nothing. I don't mind. I picked up a cheap screen protector to keep the glass shards out of my fingers til the replacement comes in. No biggie.

Huh, weird, dunno about that. But they swapped out mine pretty quick.
Sucks what happened to yours, I've always been paranoid about dropping mine, seeing this doesn't help my paranoia at all...
At Sprint we will get you a free replacement for defects if you have TEP - but if it's your fault (like a cracked screen, or water damage) you have to pay a deductible to the insurance. You can call them and find out at 1-800-584-3666. Sorry, man.
Same thing happened to me. Phone fell about 3 feet, the screen cracked, but mine wouldn't even turn on. The Sprint repair store wouldn't touch it. The Corporate store wouldn't swap it out and I had to file a claim. The good part is, Asurion sent me a brand new phone instead of a refurb. ifixit.com did a tear down on the E4GT and the Super AMOLED + screens are fused to the midplane. They had to use tons of heat and guitar picks to get it off, which will make for an expensive replacement part or repair since it is fused like that. Sprint DOES NOT replace screens anymore under TEP which is unfortunate. I guess it got too expensive, so now if you crack your screen you will be referred to Asurion.
Sorry to hear that. Any hardened glass is going to be more scratch resistant, but more brittle as a result.

The solution they have dries really quickly, they added some substance it in, so even if the tiniest bit gets in there, you shouldn't worry too much, unless you spill the whole bottle in there lol

Does it go right to the edges of the screen?
I got one ordered this weekend hopefully arriving soon.
How difficult was the application? I'm not too keen on wet application (Zagg, ugh) but is it pretty much drench, lay it on the screen and shift to center ASAP? Past experience with Zaggs, I've usually had to lay it perfectly on the first try since I wouldn't be able to shift it around afterwards.
FYI, "byublue", as mentioned earlier, takes $3 off, which is slightly better than 20%.

I'm assuming all wet applications should be the same, which means that your experience with zagg will be similar with xo.
You wouldn't be able to shift it around after its applied. However, you can peel it upwards, apply some more liquid, then place it back down
Did that with my skinomi, had no problem with it, should work with all wet screen protectors
Got mine today and applied it tonight. It was my first wet application, and it was WAY easier than the (dry-apply) SGP Crystal I had on my Dinc.
It goes very close to the edge of the screen.
No orange peel
No rainbow effect

I don't think people realize that, sure even though your device isn't damaged from the liquid solution that may or may have leaked into the phone. BUT it probably set off the water damage sticker inside voiding your warranty.
That's the biggest fear for most people including myself.

Looking for replacement front glass on S3

Howdy all!
Not sure if this would be considered the proper place for this but I figured I'd give it a shot.
I cracked the front glass of my S3. It sucks, as the part is very scarce in the US currently. I have found a few replacement parts on Amazon, but the starting price is about $210, a far cry from the $50 I used to pay for my EVO. I know its still early in the game, but does anyone know of a seller that has these replacement touchscreens for something a little more reasonable than 1/3 of the price of a brand new phone?
EDIT: Has anyone tried replacing just the glass, with one of these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/White-Digit...ultDomain_0&hash=item5895542a9b#ht_2317wt_906
Thanks!
Sorry but that might be the best you can get it for, for the gs3, because LCD replacements for the t-mobile sgs 2 is still $149 + shipping as the sgs 1 (Samsung vibrant) is still about $80 plus shipping (both on amazon) and these are all the cheapest prices I've found on the net over the span of a couple weeks of research.
So yeah, $210 is probably the best you're gonna get right now

You're most probably correct, especially after seeing all the responses here regarding it. Easy and cheap though preferred, is not always the best approach unfortunately.
Well this happened to mine on Sunday, i looked for every way possible as mine was only the front glass too. It is possible to replace just the front glass but it is very very difficult to do! you have to use a heat gun or a hair dryer to separate the glass front from the lcd/digitizer video here http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-replace-broken-lcd-screen-on-galaxy-s3/
I just got it repaired on Monday for £150 as a local phone shop had everything in stock and did it n a hour there and then, insurance wanted £100 excess so didn't bother with it. Anyway good luck and i hope you sort it soon as i know the feeling and it sucks

I know how you feel, it sucks how expensive it is, it dropped 1 inch from my pocket to the cement. Luckily it only cracked a little in the corner, so I won't replace it for now until prices come down.
amoled screen have less layers than normal LCD's its because the amoled pixels are infused within the glass.
so they have to be replaced together
I ordered one from this seller on August 3 and receive it 5 days later they ship same day after place an order. I installed it and work fine looks original.

Arggggggghhhhhhhhhh I cracked my screen!!

I have never dropped any of my phones.. I have a rubber bumper on the phone just to protect me just in case..

It's an insurance claim not a warranty claim so it will not matter.
Won't matter since it's an insurance claim. And it's $175.

Just wanted to say I feel your pain and am sorry for your loss.
Knock on wood I have only broken 1 screen and I remember staring at it incredulously on the floor thinking that can't be my phone. My kids have each broken their screens 1 time.
Damn man. Sorry about this occurrence.

I am sorry.. it's time for us to part ways..
No.. it's not you.. it's me..
It's been an amazing month together..
But you are cracked out..
and I am looking for something.. new..
But.. we can still be friends...
Now go buy a tempered glass screen protector.

Suggestions for one?
Would it really save the phone from being cracked? I literally slammed a car door shut on it (it was in my rain coat pocket that was half in/half out of the car)

Might have, might have not. On my S4 I shattered the Tempered glass pretty bad. Wasn't sure if it saved my screen. Took it off and screen was without a scratch. I've had great experiences with the Iloome one. The regular one, not the flex. And it's way cheaper than Spigens. Plus it feels like nothings on and a little extra protection won't hurt.

Is there any difference in viewing the screen or thickness of the phone?
