I saw on another phones thread this device, I also saw the external HDD was NFTS which is better than FAT32 for the sole reason of not having to convert your movies into lower/size quality.
the thread talks a bout a kernel, does this mean you would have to use the 1 kernel? 1 with edited options or NFTS hdds? or could you add some coding to another kernel?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820375
the below picture is what I'm looking at, is someone from the soon DEV team able to do work some magic to get this working with the note 2, when it comes out? :victory:
and if not recommended, why? the phone wouldn't power up the HDD right, the power source would?

The GS3 powers a hdd on its own, so theres a good chance the gnote2 will do the same... otherwise, you always have the powered usb hub method.

Hi all, just a thought, since GN has mods for Kernel, ROM, Casing, covers .. etc has anyone encountered any hardware MOD for Samsung Galaxy Nexus ? like those you can open up the phone and simple removing some chip and replacing it with another e.g. storage from 16gb to 32gb.. internal RAM from 1gb to 3 gb .. etc like a PC..
p.s. after flashing ROMS/Kernels for a few months, thinking of trying something new
we wouldn't need to upgrade phone each year if the said things can be done easily
besides a phone is not a pc, and i'm pretty sure not everyone wanna mess their $700 device in such way
I bought a cable for USB sticks and use chainfires USB app. But sorry bud not sure you could pull out that sandisk chip and throw a bigger one in. Not yet at least

thanks all guess after seeing so many kind of MODs out there in this forum, kinda hope its possible..

No it's not possible.
Even if you did manage to open it, the chips would still be soldered to the MB.

These phones are not meant to be generally user-serviceable (and especially not user-upgradeable).
Use the phone how it is and you'll be happy. When its outdated, sell it and buy a new model that suits your needs.
Hi guys
I want to use my t989 as SNES/PSX console with HDMI output+PS3 controller, or just use my TV for see my series, videos and photos without DLNA of connect it via USB cable. It's a feature I want
A friend of mine borrow me a MHL-HDMI cable (I ordered mine already) and I tried with stock and other ROM's, I have output once with CM10.1 but can't have it anymore and according to docs and IRC chat that functionality is undocumented and will never work. Only touchwiz based ROM's have TV-OUT, do you know which ones support that? Is there any chance to get this for CM or others?
Thanks in advance
---EDIT 2013-03-02
List of ROM's supporting MHL-HDMI
- Slimbean 4.1
- Liquid smooth rc9 (according to thread pointed out by nreaction)

It worked for me on Slimbean 4.1 so I assume it works on other 4.1 ROMs. Haven't been able to get it to work on 4.22 AOKP.

I thought, I would never say this but at least try and use the search function, all i typed was "mhl" search in general section. Here is the thread your looking for though. I can confirm it works for cm10, but haven't tested with cm10.1.

In my experience with the MHL adapter it will drain your batter to basically nothing while using it even though it is plugged into a power source. When you get done playing you're going to have to charge your phone back up .

There is an app that will turn your phone screen off but keep your MHL connection live and then your battery problems are solved. I just can't for the life of me remember the name of it. I have used it and it works great though.
Well I just ordered one so if you think of the name of the app please let me know. Thanks

Thanks for pointing me to that thread, even though I think it's a little different because doesn't have a list or something like that of ROM's in which MHL-HDMI output works currently (from the thread I saw liquid smooth have it)
I will try the recomendations you guys told me and have in mind jrosetto said, thanks. If anyone knows others ROM's with the feature functioning, please share your experience with us

I've looked pretty carefully, I think this is a new question/topic. Sorry if I'm wrong. Pre purchase question for Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Ed). I want to travel with it and one of my Nikon digital cameras (either D200 or D800) depending on which one will work per your answers. Travelling in Europe by bike so not possible to take a computer as an intermediary for downloading pictures. Does anyone know how I can download pictures from one of these Nikons to the 10.1 (2014) android platform directly without going through a computer. There must be a way but the photog (for professionals no less), nor the Samsung live call or chat seem to have an answer. Fingers crossed maybe it's just a cable or app I need? Thanks

From googling I see that the camera has mass storage as a usb option. You can get a USB OTG cable and connect to the Note 10.1 2014, then connect the camera to that like you would connect the camera to a computer and it will show up on the Note as a jump drive. With es file explorer you should be able to access your photos.
Here is an old tutorial, but you probably wouldn't need the thumbnailer app, es file explorer should allow you to browse the contents of the camera just fine.

10.1 (2014) nikon camera uploading
:fingers-crossed: Your tutorial is very straight forward and clear, as well as your answer. I just found a store that has a 14 day return policy so I have a little time to experiment. This stuff never seems to have one definitive exact answer and I'm so not a techie ...amazing what I'm learning! and I did hit the 'thanks' button
Look at DLSR Dashboard and TPLINK, I forgot which model
This is a wireless solution.
You can control the D800 from your 10.1 as well as have the files go directly to the 10.1
I am saving up for a D800e at present.

I don't understand your problem! You wish to use your tablet to arquive your photos? Since we have a little space storage on our tablets (mine 16GB) the best way to do it is to use microSD cards with SD adaptors you can use it on your camera.*Have plenty their cheap.
Wife has a Nikon she uses the micro SD to SD adapter to transfers over pictures. Some micro SD come with the adapter already
Solution for downoading Nikon D200/800 images to super portable device
Thanks to all of you for your input. I thought I'd report back in case there are any other not-so-techie artists out there looking for a simple solution. While I am not a pro photographer, the camera is one very important tool in my art making practice. I have two high end Nikon DSLR cameras and wanted the ability to download images when the memory cards get full. I did probably 60-80 hours research. What I really wanted at the beginning was a tablet. In the end I purchased a Surface Pro 2 which runs on a windows platform. It's pretty pricey and I'm sure the regular Surface tablet would also work for temporarily storing photos when the memory card is full. I also write, so the ability of loading full programs onto the Pro2 (Word and PP for artists' talk presentations) and becoming super portable at low weight and size was too much to resist. I tested the Surface Pro 2 last evening and it is amazing as a tablet/laptop hybrid kind of thing (although learning curve is still ahead). BUT it does work brilliantly with both cameras. The added bonus...I can load Photoshop onto it too. For the cameras: no intermediary tools required (OTG cables or conversion cards) as would be the case with an Apple product or an Android platform....straight in. Hope this helps other creative types. I cannot be the only one who needs these abilities from a tablet.
FWIW, I'm still stuck with a D300, which uses CF rather than SD cards. I simply hooked a plain old USB card reader up to my 10.1 with an OTG cable et voila! Copy photos off the card, onto the tab and backup onto Dropbox. Piece of cake.
Now, if only I had the D800.

This works. Hook it up to your Nixon, turn wifi on your phone or tablet, and download the nikon app from the market. I use it all the time with my Note 3.

Hey guys
I've just bought this tablet yesterday. According to information I find here and on youtube, and since this is a high end android tablet for now, I was expecting usb otg feature to work easily.
But I've tried 3 different cables and all possible devices (flash drives, mouses, HDDs...) And nothing works. No messages, no lights being turned on on devices...
I'm pretty sure it's possible to enable it by rooting and installing a modified kernel or perhaps some third party apps, But just want to know is this the case for all of you?
Does samsung really forgot to enable this by default? Since all mid range devices have ir already now?
Or am I missing something? Should I look for a different OTG cable, before considering rooting and knox 0x1?
Any help would be appreciated
Edit: oh and btw I forgot to mention:
I havd Tab S 8.4 lte (sm t705)
Edit2: Samsung officially answered my email and told me that THIS TABLET DOES NOT SUPPORT OTG!
I don't know if this is a new limitation or some kind of location based feature or... all I can say is that this is a hardware limitation because rooting and flashing otg enabled rom and kernel, didn't hepled.
Thanks samsung! you pissed me off again!
I am running OTG with USB memory stick, works fine.

I am able to load FAT32 formatted USB pen drives on my Tab S 8.4 (SM-T700) with original samsung OTG cable. However NTFS pen drives are not mounted. But if I root my tab, there are few apps that can mount NTFS as well.

hope this one works because the situation is getting really strange! I read everywhere that both tab s 10.1 and 8.4 support otg (come on! of course they should!!) but yesterday the folks at samsung service center told me that it doesn't !!

Hi all,
I was thinking of getting a Fire Phone since the specs are amazing for the price. Having it rooted with Cyanogenmod as an OS seems like it'd be a great phone.
However, one of the things I love about the Galaxy phones is the ability to use an SD card.
Will Stickmount allow me to use flash drives/microSD cards plugged into the miniusb slot when the phone has Cyanogenmod as an operating system? I saw a thread here which said it wasn't OTG capable with Amazon's OS, but nobody mentioned if it is with Cyanogenmod as the operating system and Stickmount installed.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
OTG support needs a Kernel with those USB functions enabled. We are stuck with the stock Kernel (OTG disabled), so that's a dead end for now.
Madushan1000 tried building USB OTG modules for the stock Kernel but so far, he didn't get lucky, I guess because of "lack of sources" and / or the device accepting the custom modules.
Thanks for the info.
Eh, I guess I won't bother with it then. I could manage without a removable battery at that price, but definitely not without external storage
Looks like he had some progress with kernel accepting modules... ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/development/dev-building-custom-kernel-kernel-t3195492
Thanks!
It seems like it'd be more complicated than what I can do (my knowledge on these topics is far below rudimentary :/), but hopefully it can.help some others
If the board supports OTG at all, It just a matter of time before someone can build an OTG module. I'm extremely busy with my final exams these days so I didn't have much time to look at OTG or kexec modules. Hopefully, exams will be over in few days and I'll be able to try few more things.
