I want to travel with it and one of my Nikon digital cameras (either D200 or D800) depending on which one will work per your answers. Travelling in Europe by bike so not possible to take a computer as an intermediary for downloading pictures. Does anyone know how I can download pictures from one of these Nikons to the 10.1 (2014) android platform directly without going through a computer. There must be a way but the photog (for professionals no less), nor the Samsung live call or chat seem to have an answer. Fingers crossed maybe it's just a cable or app I need? Thanks

From googling I see that the camera has mass storage as a usb option. You can get a USB OTG cable and connect to the Note 10.1 2014, then connect the camera to that like you would connect the camera to a computer and it will show up on the Note as a jump drive. With es file explorer you should be able to access your photos.
Here is an old tutorial, but you probably wouldn't need the thumbnailer app, es file explorer should allow you to browse the contents of the camera just fine.

I don't understand your problem! You wish to use your tablet to arquive your photos? Since we have a little space storage on our tablets (mine 16GB) the best way to do it is to use microSD cards with SD adaptors you can use it on your camera.*Have plenty their cheap.
Wife has a Nikon she uses the micro SD to SD adapter to transfers over pictures. Some micro SD come with the adapter already
Solution for downoading Nikon D200/800 images to super portable device
Thanks to all of you for your input. I thought I'd report back in case there are any other not-so-techie artists out there looking for a simple solution. While I am not a pro photographer, the camera is one very important tool in my art making practice. I have two high end Nikon DSLR cameras and wanted the ability to download images when the memory cards get full. I did probably 60-80 hours research. What I really wanted at the beginning was a tablet. In the end I purchased a Surface Pro 2 which runs on a windows platform. It's pretty pricey and I'm sure the regular Surface tablet would also work for temporarily storing photos when the memory card is full. I also write, so the ability of loading full programs onto the Pro2 (Word and PP for artists' talk presentations) and becoming super portable at low weight and size was too much to resist. I tested the Surface Pro 2 last evening and it is amazing as a tablet/laptop hybrid kind of thing (although learning curve is still ahead). BUT it does work brilliantly with both cameras. The added bonus...I can load Photoshop onto it too. For the cameras: no intermediary tools required (OTG cables or conversion cards) as would be the case with an Apple product or an Android platform....straight in. Hope this helps other creative types. I cannot be the only one who needs these abilities from a tablet.
FWIW, I'm still stuck with a D300, which uses CF rather than SD cards. I simply hooked a plain old USB card reader up to my 10.1 with an OTG cable et voila! Copy photos off the card, onto the tab and backup onto Dropbox. Piece of cake.
Now, if only I had the D800.

This works. Hook it up to your Nixon, turn wifi on your phone or tablet, and download the nikon app from the market. I use it all the time with my Note 3.

others have answered the specific questions so here's my take on the general ones:

No 3G is a pain in the ass. I feel like I'm limited where I can use this thing fully. If I want to play a little WWF during lunch, I gotta stick to places that have wifi. I can't just whip it out and get directions while out walking, or look something up on the spur of the moment. If you have a phone that can act as a wireless hotspot, this is no biggie.
Also, nothing major but I've found some basic customization and tasks have been a bit harder than expected. It took forever to get a proper screenshot program working... should be built into the OS. I'm still trying to find a randomized wallpaper changer. Little things like that... it seemed like people were on top of this stuff when I looked into customizing my phone.
5. Would the 7 in. screen be an issue for typing notes during my college classes?
I find the screen more than enough to do anything. Feels big and clear. Also, swyping with this thing in portrait mode is perfect, you don't have to be as precise as you would with a phone, but it's not so far between the letters that it slows you down. If you already use swype you'll be golden for note-taking.

No, I'm quite pleased with it, and the price is amazing for what you're getting. The lack of 3G still gets on my nerves and I would gladly have paid an extra 50+ bucks to add that functionality.

I got a screen protector and a cheapo (like 6-10 buck) carry case. I've dropped it twice from waist level or so and the case kept it fine. I'd say if you get the case you'll be ok, but an unlucky landing facedown onto blacktop might crack the screen or something.

I feel like it's pretty good but I don't have much to compare it to. One thing I really liked is the devs made it SOOOO easy to root and install a new rom/os/bootloader/etc. I got the appropriate usb drivers, used the KFU, and in no time I was able to back up my stock image, get a good bootloader going, get a new launcher, get root, and even get some sort of hack that gives you access to both the amazon marketplace and google play store. Most apps I've installed work fine, a handful that were made for the phone do not, but they make it very easy to DL, install, update and uninstall apps.
4. there are some drawbacks:
-no bluetooth
-no volume buttons
-only about 6 GB of useable storage space
-no upgradeable storage (except through mounting something on USB)

I've just bought this tablet yesterday. According to information I find here and on youtube, and since this is a high end android tablet for now, I was expecting usb otg feature to work easily.
But I've tried 3 different cables and all possible devices (flash drives, mouses, HDDs...) And nothing works. No messages, no lights being turned on on devices...
I'm pretty sure it's possible to enable it by rooting and installing a modified kernel or perhaps some third party apps, But just want to know is this the case for all of you?
Does samsung really forgot to enable this by default? Since all mid range devices have ir already now?
Or am I missing something? Should I look for a different OTG cable, before considering rooting and knox 0x1?
Any help would be appreciated

Edit2: Samsung officially answered my email and told me that THIS TABLET DOES NOT SUPPORT OTG!
I don't know if this is a new limitation or some kind of location based feature or... all I can say is that this is a hardware limitation because rooting and flashing otg enabled rom and kernel, didn't hepled.

I am able to load FAT32 formatted USB pen drives on my Tab S 8.4 (SM-T700) with original samsung OTG cable. However NTFS pen drives are not mounted. But if I root my tab, there are few apps that can mount NTFS as well.

Thanks. Yes NTFS supports needs root as always. But I cant get any drives to work for now.

Hi guys, I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge which I am strongly considering switching to a HTC 10 due to the fact that there is no root for my current device nor does it look like there will be for the foreseeable future. I know no device is perfect so I have some questions about this device prior to making the switch. If you guys can answer them I'd greatly appreciate it.
1. Is there any way to get rid of the red/pink tint on the screen? I've heard at certain angles it has a pink tint but I've also seen some users say it was due to the glue.
2. Is there anyway to make a private photo/video gallery on an SD Card with Root and S-Off? I can't do it on my S7 edge it only lets me do it on the internal storage problem is there is only 23 gigs available out the box.
3. Is there any way to get the device posdibly through Root and Rom Flashing to do 60 FPS video?
4. With Root is it possible to force apps on to the SD card partition with Adoptable storage? I had adoptable storage on my S7 edge but I wasn't able to force apps on my SD card eating up my internal storage.
5. Is there anyway with the Root Sound Modification's to make Bluetooth louder?
6. Is there any way to connect this device with screen mirroring to a non smart HDTV?
I'll do my best to answer some of these questions:
1. From what I've read the tinting you refer to is due to the type of LCD panel the phone uses. Coming from an S6 the display quality was one of my only regrets. AMOLED screen will spoil you.
2. You wouldn't need S-OFF to make a private photo/video gallery, but root is available for this device so if you have a method in mind that requires root you should be fine.
3. Root will not help you with getting 60fps video recording. It is possible some of the 3rd-party ROM chefs will add this as an option but you would need to do some research.
4. You can use adoptable storage on this device which will use your external SD card as internal storage. It is my understanding (somebody correct me please if I am mistaken) that the phone will default to internal storage first for certain types of data but then as space is required it will start using the external card. My phone has a 64GB card installed with about 40.87GB used but only 18.19GB of internal storage and 22.68GB of my SD card.
5. Not that I know of. Root is not the answer to everything.
6. If you mean connecting via wireless display then probably not, but there is a USB Type-C to HDMI connector you can buy on Newegg. A quick Google search turned up about a half-dozen options. I didn't have an S7, upgraded from S6. I haven't noticed any problems with bluetooth volume on either device, but I don't use it all that often. Mostly just in my car which worked perfectly on both.
I came from a GS7 and I actually prefer the screen on the HTC 10. Way more accurate. I compared the 2 before I returned the GS7. And also it feels like the 10 is way faster when it comes to how fast it reacts to touch response everything just moves fast on this device. I haven't had any issues with the tint either

I came from a Note 5 and I love the display on my 10. Just got it today, Tianma panel, no tint problems, no "coil whine" noises... Not impressed with the speakers as much though. Its a lot quieter than I'd like, especially on YouTube and my Note 5 actually has more bass than the 10 does which is disappointing.
Other than that, I scored 120k on AnTuTu out of the box, 8k lower than the LG G5 but almost double the 62-64k my Note 5 always got (it was messed up out of the box but T-Mobile wanted to charge me a restocking fee so I said nevermind and kept it).
The first sync takes a LONG time... I'm wondering if its a T-Mobile problem or not so I'm in the process of changing my device to a US unlocked RUU with root. Just backing up my partitions right now before I root and go S-OFF.
Anyone have or found a USB-C hub yet that will work with the 2 xl to hook up external HD/thumb drive/microSD/SD cards? Preferably with power input so you can use a powered 3.0 HD like a passport.
When traveling I like to be able to backup my photos from my main cameras (sony Nex 6 and Gopro) to a hard drive or drives, and right now I am using a travel router. It's ok, but the transfer is slow, its a little glitchy, and a little bulky, and I would like to streamline the process and the equipment. I've tried using hubs and cables in the past with my Nexus 7 2013, but it also was not very good and the transfer speeds were awful as I had to go from SD card to tablet, tablet to hard drive. Hoping to go straight SD card to hard drive this time, and at 3.0 speeds if possible.

Same boat. I would like to use it as a hub/transfer point for my external drive, camera(s), and SD cards and then to maybe let it upload the days shots to my server at home while sleeping (if I have decent wifi).
There are obviously some more options for this coming out with hard drives that handle this specific task, but still not ideal IMO.

I purchase it, let's see if it works. I did a combination of the OTG and a 3.0 usb card reader and I needed to purchase an otg enabler in the play store. That works but is kinda slow reading. Let's see how this new one works

Got this hub, and did NOT worked... Dammit google, this is a must for me... Works with the s8, Moto z2 and even Huawei 6x....
The only way that I can achieve what I want is to use the stock google otg with a 3.0 sdcard reader and the app plugin for solid explorer

Thats a bummer. Using the otg adapter in the box I can see a USB thumb drive no problem, but so far plugging my other USB hubs into that adapter give nothing. Ideally I need a USB 3.0 and SDcard on a hub so I can transfer straight from camera cards to the thumbdrive/external drive. going from the camera to the phone, then phone to the drive is tedious at best.
So I have always been a razer fan and always fancied checking out there phones. I here they ain't the best but I have a chance to get my hand on the first one and wondering if I should, I herd the camera is trash but I also see there are gcam ports for it and wondering if that makes much difference to the camera at all, I had the pixel 2 and lived the pic quality and used a few gcams on other phones and results were great so jw what it's like on razer. What would people suggest. Is it worth it?
I'm still using the Razer Phone 1.
If you stick to stock rom, it's not worth it... no more security updates, no exFAT sdxc card support unless you adopt it as internal storage (so you are stuck with 64GB), no aptX bluetooth codec.
If you plan on using custom rom, it's better but overall still not worth it. Not many custom roms available. Lineage is officially supported, but I had sleepless nights getting it to work. Going into recovery mode requires plugging the phone into a computer or another phone... which if you happen to be in a situation where you can only boot normally by first going into recovery mode (yes i had to live with this for most of last year)... you better hope your phone doesn't just spontaneously restart or run out of juice without a USB cable and computer/phone nearby. Keep in mind, Google Pay won't work with customs rom. Magisk can add aptX, but no luck with exFAT sdxc.
Yes, the 120Hz refresh rate is nice but the phone at this age no longer has stellar battery. Like you said, camera is trash. GCam only works for one of the two rear cameras (i.e. front camera does not work with GCam). Another annoying bit is the speaker grills... they fall off and get bent or broken, and there is no replacement you can buy.
I'm keeping my Razer Phone around since I like to tinker with the phone and see how long it can last. If you like to do the same, I hope you get a really good deal on the phone. Otherwise, I'd say look elsewhere.

Not sure if there is a Telegram group for the phone. I mainly just use XDA here.
As a quick update to my previous post, in terms of the limited storage, I've gone down the route of picking up a 256GB A2 microsdxc card (split 37% (95GB) adoptable storage and the remainder as FAT32). After using the migrate function for adoptable storage (thus in theory the system thinks there is about 159GB of internal storage), this seems to ease up on the limited storage issue.
The reason I split the card is for the possibility (although untested) to backup my phone to the card / transfer files via the card and still use the card on another device (may require the phone to be powered off to not mess with the system/app files on the adoptable storage part).
But overall, my view still stands, only get this phone now if you want to tinker with it. Don't expect battery to be great with this phone's age either (FYI, look at this thread to manage battery health https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...arging-controller-acc-on-razer-phone.4235283/).

I'm keeping my Razer Phone around since I like to tinker with the phone and see how long it can last. If you like to do the same, I hope you get a really good deal on the phone. Otherwise, I'd say look elsewhere.

I had one sleepless night to install Lineage os. Now that it's installed, I'm really enjoying this phone. Look for a good deal if you're buying anyway, like I would pick this over a budget phone if they're the same price (only if you plan to use a custom rom). The stock rom is way too outdated
