Anyone know how to replace the stock mms on UVDLI8 with the AOSP mms? I tried the following (and a couple different variants) steps:
1. Uninstall secmms.apk (both with TB and deleting the apk in system/app)
2. Reboot
3. Copy mms.apk to system/app and set permissions
4. Reboot into recovery
5. Wipe cache
6. Fix permissions
...but no go. I get sms to work but mms causes the phone to crash and reboot. This worked with the stock ICS rom, but not the JB leaks. I tried all this with the mms.apk files from both the CM10 and AOKP roms. Neither worked.

did you rename it?
No. Left it named Mms.apk. That is what I did on the stock ICS rom and it worked fine. The only difference here is I am using a 4.1.1 version of the apk whereas with the stock ICS rom I used a 4.0.4 versions of the Mms.apk.

well the thing is that with the new li8 leak a lot of files changed trust me any little tweak that the system doesnt like it rejects completely, there fore reboots and vibrations or FC's. try the ics.apk if that doesnt work rename the jb.apk to secmms.apk
Thanks! I'll give it a try when I get back home in ~2 hours and let you know. Thanks again!
Well I couldn't get 4.1.1 working no matter how I tried to install it, but I did get 4.0.4 to work. 4.0.4 worked by installing it the same way I did in ICS (steps I outlined in OP). Confirmed I am able to send and receive MMS.
Not sure what differences there are between the two versions but all appears good for me. Thanks for your help and the 4.0.4 suggestion!

Can someone load up a stock GSM 4.0.4 systemUI? I put this mod on my phone last night that was suppose to ONLY be a battery percentage mod but ended up changing all my UI buttons. I hate it. And like a dumbass, I didn't backup before I flashed it.
So if anyone can upload a zip file of the stock 4.0.4 systemUI that I can apply via CWM would be great. ( I have the GSM nexus so I need the systemUI from it a verizon or sprint UI wont help me)
Thanks!
Hi,
Here it is:https://rapidshare.com/files/500812190/Stock_SystemUI.zip
Sweet! Thanks so much. I shouldn't need the systemui.odex file should I? If I do could you load that up for me as well?
Re,
Heu...You're on a stock rom rooted?Or a custom rom,which one?
Because, yes the SystemUI.apk I've posted is from a stock rom but deodexed...
Awesome. It works. I gave you some thanks.
Re,
Ah ok,good to hear!
I answered, but were answered at the same time ,but it works,so...
Im on stock rom. So it should have been an odex. But i flashed it in CWM and everything works fine. I had always though that if you flashed a deodex on an odex ROM it wouldnt boot, but it seems eveything is fine.
Re,
In case of issue, maybe test this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514576&highlight=odex...
Just for re-odex your SystemUI.apk?I've tested this on a deoxeded rom with no issue, but on also an odexed rom with just an app deodexed,I don't know...Backup before,if you want to test
I do not know if I was clear...?
Instead of trying to re-odex the file, why not just grab it directly from the stock image?
Download the factory images from here, extract the system.img from within, convert it to an .ext4.img by using this and then (for Windows users) use this to mount the .ext4.img and extract the file.
Know you've learned how to grab any file from the stock images in case you mess up any of your files...
I'm using freeza's stock rooted LI3 ROM and I'm having a problem with google talk. I have reached the end of my limited troubleshooting abilities and the only idea I have left is trying to reinstall talk but it's not in the market so I was thinking of flashing the gapps zip here.
Can I flash that gapps zip dirty? Will I have a problem with it being a gapps zip from JB? If so, can someone point me to a gapps zip that will work with LI3? I looked some, but didn't see any custom rom threads that were based on LI3 with a link to a gapps zip.
BTW, here is my problem. As far as I know, everything else on the phone is working and logging into talk from my desktop works fine. When I open Talk on my phone and sign on, I get an inactive indicator (grey circles with an x in them) on all of my friends and my own status indicator.
You should be fine flashing dirty. Wiping cache/dalvik wouldnt hurt. But even that shouldnt be nessessary
ics gapps- http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip
jb gapps- http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip
you didnt see anything linked to li3 cuz thats touchwiz. gapps are for aosp. They will still work on touchwiz but you dont need to flash them like on aosp
Also linked google talk from jb by itself. might need to be copied and pasted or pushed to system/app if u use it

Today I read a little guide from youmobile, about installing the new camera in android 4.2. (cant post link since im new)
I did everything except I forgot to backup first. Now everytime i start up the phone, open camera or open gallery it comes "Gallery has crashed".
Anyone knows what I might have done wrong? I used ROM Manager -> Boot into clockwordmod recovery -> flash zip -> and i chose the zip.
The camera is working trough apps like Snapchat, but not trough the stock app.
I could also use the stock 4.1.2 gallery and camera .apk so I atleast can get back my camera.
I am running on 4.1.2 takju nexus, with Air Kernel 3.0.46.
Please help.

try this zip. it's fixed so that everything should work.

if you still get crashes, you may want to reflash your Rom (without wiping).
also try fixing permissions, either in clockwork or rom manager

Thanks. I'm new tho, so what do you mean by fixing permissions. Could you give me step by step?
Go into recovery(CWM) and select the fix permissions option (might be under advanced)
Swype'ed on my CM10 Galaxy Nexus
Installing the .zip file already fixes permissions. Have you tried renaming the apk to Gallerygoogle2.apk in your preferred file manager?
second post, the link works perfectly.
Thanks!
Hi I was running a stock note 2 rom.
I had my phone flashed to a verizon through this service (www.remotewirelesstech.com)
I then rooted with (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957155) this toolkit.
Had no problems, flashed Jelly Bomb rom.
Used it for about 2 months.
Wanted to fix the mms and youtube issues I was having so I followed this from their site: http://www.remotewirelesstech.com/faq.html
I was unable to launch the ##3282# command due to the limitations of a non stock rom.
...
So I then created a backup of my rom (jelly bomb) through TWRP (latest version)
wiped data, and caches.
installed stock rom.
fixed my mms and youtube issues.
tested and they worked fine.
**I was told that these setting stay even after a new rom has been installed**
So I booted into TWRP removed the rom and restored my backup.
Now I cannot open youtube anymore and my mms is not working.
So my question is...
1) can this somehow be fixed in my jellybomb rom? So that I can dial these sprint codes?
2) Will it fix the errors If i reflash the rom from scratch?
3)Or should I look for another rom with this functionality?
** Also I have tried to replace the csc folder to no avail. (not sure how to do it) ( I removed the csc folder from a stock rom image and zipped it and tried to flash it and it failed) i then tried to removed the old folder from fs explorer and it cannot be done, i then tried to copy the files to the dirs and it worked but still cannot dial the codes. ** This can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2043019
Im so lost, please help.

This just worked for me:

I have always been able to replace systemui.apk in system/app
Now I have upgraded to 4.4.4 nh7 and noticed systemui is in priv-app
Ok no problem. I still use 7zip on the pc to replace a few icons that I prefer in the systemui.apk, and put on the phone. And copy using root explorer over the exiting one. Reboot change permission. Clear cache dalvik cache in recorver and phone works fine, but the icons are the same old white ones not the ones I replaced. Anyone have any thoughts or recommendations.. Is there some new step I am missing in 4.4.4
(it is a deodexed, knoxless version of the stock rom with a non enforcing kernel.. gotten from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/development/stock-base-4-4-4-nh7-rooted-deodexed-t2873695
Thanks in advance.
Most likely it's the deodexed vs odex affecting your substitution of the icons.
