I've been trying to sort through some threads but I am not seeing a real definitive answer to this.
I recently switched over to the series III rom to give it a go from CM7 and last night at full charge I unplugged it just to wake this morning at 14% batter left. This is the identical issue I had with Myn's Roms. Myns I had a wake issue, this one showed 8 hours unplugged 1 hour wake which I played some Rio before sleeping lol. Still both same end result.
My question isn't so much how to fix it or improve it because that question HAS been beaten to death. I am just curious as to what makes the Sense Roms do this specifically. CM7 I was getting really good battery life leaving everything on.
Also, is there an app that actually monitors usage? I don't feel Spare Parts or the stock system reading is telling me everything I want to know about what's using my battery.

My guess is that you have a wakelock issue and if you are using baseband 2.15.00.11.19 in conjunction with PRI 1.90_003 I'm willing to bet that is the culprit. Downgrading the PRI to 1.77_003 takes care of it, by the way.

I wish I had an answer for you as to why that is. I can only assume that synchronizing with email, weather, social networks, etcetera could be major factors.

SystemPanel Lite & aLogcat are very helpful. With aLogcat, there is realtime monitoring and you should pay attention to anything displayed in RED repeatedly.
hahaha thanks for the definitive break down.
I have downgraded to 1.77 and it's still pretty bad. Again, not really looking for solutions but more of a reason as to WHY the difference.
thanks for the app suggestions.

You're very welcome and I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Enjoy your weekend, my friend...
One more app suggestion for ya--
Watchdog
It monitors apps and processes and alerts you if one goes rogue on you eating up your battery. I have found that in conjunction with system panel to be a great monitoring system.

If you can do it, because I don't know how yo use your phone, turn all your data off unless you actually need it.
I do this now, since I found out I can go 2-3 days without a recharge, if I don't need one. I don't use data much, anyhow, except my weather widgets and the times I go on my browser
My usage consists of call text and facebook lol. The clock widget has weather so that too I suppose. Never use 4g. Maps on rare occurrence.
Is there a simple button for data? Without going to settings every time?

If you never us 4 g try miui. I consistently get 20 hours of use regardless of what I have turned on. Good luck!

I like miui standalone apps but the whole iphone-esque layout I cannot stand.
I like sense. If it was an issue with I NEED battery I would go back to cm7. I would rather go beyond adjust your pri, and disable half your phone and see if there is a specific reason sense roms go all Monica lowinski on your battery. Haha

You're on koni's elite III? Does that come with come with '4g' as one of the toggle widgets in the notification pulldown? If so, you can modify that so that 'mobile data' (3g) toggle will replace the 4g toggle. (if you don't want to do that, you can put a widget on your homescreen by going to add a widget, then scrolling down to 'settings'. Once you hit settings, you'll be presented with more options, 'mobile network' will toggle your 3g on and off at will)
If you do want to modify the pull down toggle, and you have Root Explorer, or another root level file explorer, it can easily be done. I don't think koni's III comes with a widget.txt file already, so you'll need to make one. I'll upload the one I use, which toggles GPS, Brightness, airplane mode, mobile data, flashlight, and sound, so you can use that as a reference, or modify it to you're liking. Once you have widget.txt made how you want it, you need to put it in /system/customize. You can do that using root explorer, or
adb remount
adb push widget.txt /system/customize
adb reboot
here's a list of what you can add to the notification pulldown toggles (6 at a time) And here's a link to the original thread, by JsChiSurf. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836721&highlight=notification+toggles
(don't forget to pipe delimit them): Spelling must be exact, capitals matter. No spaces, and use | to separate them.
Code:
toggleAirplane
toggleAutoRotate
toggleBluetooth
toggleBrightness
toggleFlashlight
toggleGPS
toggleLockScreen
toggleMobileData
toggleScreenTimeout
toggleSleepMode
toggleSound
toggleSync
toggleWifi

Disabling "Always On Mobile Data" is helpful. When you're not actually surfing the net or using data, it'll sleep saving you battery usage.
THere is a widget for data on Koni's three. Long press your screen/widgets/settings/mobile network and you'll get the data widget.
@k2buckly that's some great info, I appreciate it. Will hit the thanks button when I get on my pc. Gives me a new tinker project lol.
As well as others.
So my question still stands but I think we have established the culprit. Mobile data. Now what makes the sense roms so prone to mobile data usage vs other roms causing accelerated drain?

Go search in the Mik rom thread about IQAgent and IQRD. Google them as well. IQAgent is a nasty app Sprint uses to log information about you that they shouldn't be doing.
People are deleting them wirh root explorer or freezing them with TB and having some luck. I deleted them and it really helped my battery life. At least check in to it.

This app makes it a pain but I will. Essentially I would like to get enough tweaks and info to make one thread possibly a sticky for this issue.
This seems like the similar issue of the vibrant. We had to freeze all the drm, functions because they were always talking to samsung for verification. Regardless of having licensed products or not.
I would like to get to a point where we can get these wonderful sense roms to be basically fully functional with respectable battery life. Maybe just my own opinion but I don't think its right we have to essentially disable our phones down to being no better than an old flip phone.
I don't mind doing the research and leg work either. Im a year late on the evo so I need something to do haha.

This is the holy grail of what i was looking for. I am sure it was in the 1000+ page thread somewhere but I never found anything that explained the CDMA radio usage. I always found "turn off data". No offense to those who posted, the help was appreciated but I was just looking further into it then most do. I am more of a "why" person then a "i don't care just fix it" person.
As I said I am about a year behind on having an Evo so some of this info is DEEP into some searches.
Excellent read, I am going to try these out and have watchdog and system panel going. Before this read I have my phone pretty close to the 1% idle, I doubt I'll maintain that but it's close to satisfactory.
The best advice I could give is this...If you want a "Sense" based rom, I would recommend MikFroyo. The community has gotten so big, that he now has his own site themikmik.com. The reason I feel this is the best rom, is because everything is repacked, cleaned, optimized, and tweaked to the max...which makes for basically, the fastest Sense rom experience you could possibly have. There are also plenty of theme's, if your not one for the stock look (I actually am).
If you don't already use a custom Kernel, I would recommend netarchy-toastmod. His Kernel's have always been great for me, and with SBC charging too. I just ignore the SBC scare tactics. I've been using SBC since it came out, and have not had one single issue.
But the best answer to the "Why?" I could give you, is...USAGE. Unless there is and actual software/hardware issue your having, then all that's left to blame is your usage. Radios that are on, the signal strengths of them, monitoring software in use, and just simply...how much you use it. Which brings me to another point...it's cool to use stuff like Watchdog, or System Panel to see if there are issues, but after that I would recommend getting rid of them, as they themselves eat battery. I'm not saying the destroy your battery...just that they use it. And the more you have running...the more it gets used. The only "active" monitoring software I use is Battery Monitor Widget. It is probably the best app to monitor your battery/usage that exists.
I have never "downgraded" anything on my phone, always update my PRL & Profile, and have not ever had a software/hardware related issue. Then again, I don't flash much...I just stick with the things that work great.
You better try Azrael X v.40 rom, it give you a long battery live and also after you unplug your phone it takes a long time to start seeing any change on you battery status icon. I tried different roms and this one has everything working,my make concern about roms is "battery life" and speed. Also with this rom I always have wifi on, use wireless network as location, Background data on, auto sync on,exchange push mail on, weather sync on, and live wallpaper on. so far that's my setting and I can go through the day with a single charge. (I'm not doing advertising on this rom, I just want to let other know about how good is in Battery life.
Honestly, this stock rom is pretty ****ing good. I am actually able to disable 80% of the bloat nonsense, and its smooth as hell out of the box. It was able to connect to my old, obscure TV in two tries (took 20 seconds) and everything is amazing. You know what I hate the most? Not having adaway. Thats saying something. Good job HTC and verizon for not making another droid DNA stock rom disaster.
I'm enjoying the stock Rom also. It's snappy as hell. Quick question, what is the best way to disable the vzw bloat. Thanks.
A lot of people don't know about it, but if you go to Settings>Apps and then All Apps, you can click an app and there's an option to disable a lot of them, which as far as I can tell is basically like uninstalling them except the app is still on your phone. It doesn't run or show in the tray though. Really awesome feature, debloating a phone without root is sweet.

Do not forget to get access to the "Developer Options" menu in Settings. There are some really amazing options in there, such as Force GPU Rendering, Force 4x MSAA, control over the phone animations, and one of my personal favorites - "Background Process Limit"
To access the "Developer Options" go to Settings > About > Software > More > Build Number - Once you get to "Build Number" start tapping in-between to the two lines that contain the Build Number information. After a number of taps you will get a message saying you are x taps to becoming a developer, keep tapping until it tells you that you are a developer. Once you get the notification/popup saying you are a developer, head back to the main menu in settings and look right about "Software Update" and below "Backup & Reset" you should now have "Developer Options". Enjoy the added features.

Yeah, and I definitely agree about the ads. God, I forgot how bad they can be.
What's wrong with the DNA stock ROM? Kids have unrooted stock DNA's and it seems fine when I have to fix or update something for them.

It was my old phone. Thankfully it came with the 1.15 rom instead of 2.04(before moonshine). The stock rom was bloated to all hell. Sense 4 was ugly and stupid, and the battery life was horrendous. When I put carbon on there, it was blazing fast and I got about 2+ days of battery life with 2+ hours of screen on time.

Besides being annoyed by ads and not being able to disable certain stuff, I am annoyed at not being able to change my DPI. I had it lowered to 200 on my S3 and Note 2. I hate big, fat icons and want to be able to fit more stuff on the screen.

I'm really hoping this thing gets cracked soon so I can get back to Cyanogenmod.
Has anyone figured out how to get the wifi status notifcation out of the windowshade? I don't need to be constantly notified of my wifi status.

I'd love a widget which enabled me to toggle my hotspot on and off, but haven't found one that works with the AT&T variant for some reason. I've tried most of them off the Play store and when pressed they don't do anything. Has anyone found one that works?
My suggestion isn't a widget but a way to enable the hotspot toggle in the dropdown menu. Download an app called QuickPanel Manager from the Play Store. It's not free, but well worth the couple bucks. It enables toggles in the dropdown menu that have been disabled by the carriers. One little thing about the app, though (at least this is how it is on my phone)... after you get the settings they way you want, uninstall the app or the dropdown menu will revert back to original when the phone is rebooted. no idea why that happens. Hope this helps.

I'm not running MM yet. I've been silently following all the feeds looking at results. I'm a little reluctant at this point just because I don't want to do it, then realize it might affect future updates. I'm on the verge of doing it though because it seems like things are going well. Trying to be patient.

I ran out of patience, lol. I put the MM floating around here on and it runs flawlessly. It's an official update from AT&T which is from a few days ago and doesn't trip Knox. I have a feeling it will integrate with updates with no issue, but that's just a guess.
I did try Quickpanel, it doesn't work with MM. It just crashes when you open it up.

Yes it is, the notification service that android uses does not get shut down when an app is closed. that feature is just to make sure the app isn't running in the background, that is all.
and just some helpful knowledge for you, GCM is the service that allows all apps to receive notifications

Disclaimer: I am not Responsible for Burns on your gorgeous Amoled display or the Nuclear war triggered or your anything using by my guide.
As we have the Notification Led ditched by Sammy, we have a few alternatives. However, I have somewhat mimicked the missing features through Always On Edge.
Play Store Link: (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
I can understand that this has already been discussed, my purpose of this thread is to Guide you an effective configuration of the AOE app. Many people find the app difficult to configure as this is like a "One Page Website" containing almost all the options in the same place, therefore looking messy. Also, this app have several bugs yet I found this most reliable yet.
I don't claim any credit for the App.
Steps:
Please disable dear Samsung's Edge Light feature OFF.
Disable Window and Transition Animation off in Dev Settings if you don't like AOE flickering statusbar during notification reminder.
Install Always on Edge from the play store link above.
Go to AOE settings, Give the app necessary Permission.
Exclude the app from being battery optimized.
On How/When to Light section, select your preferences. In "When Notification Comes", select your apps to notify and set your preferred colour.
Turn Reminder on for 8 seconds in every 16 seconds.
On Edge Style, Select Stable (This helps reduce battery drain).
Check Adjust brightness, keep it at mid range or as you prefer.
On How to Close, select Double Tap to Close.
Now, on Enable Edge Lighting, keep it enabled, Select around Notch only. On the notch support settings, select Adjust manually and select the values 55,0,15,10, Right > 120 respectively.
This will make a smaller notification LED like light above the notch. We usually don't use that area so, it should be absolutely fine. With these settings, you get a working notification LED alternative.
I hope this helps a lot of us. These settings are my personal preference at this moment. I am also looking into Chainfire's Holey Light but that thing is a baby and drains battery plus does not notify when on battery and screen is off. So, I shall wait till other alternatives are available.

Why wouldn't you add this to the thread that already exists about this app?
I can understand that this app has been already talked about but why I made this thread is so that more people can get the guide easily and it does not get lost in the conversation. If moderators think it's duplicate and wish, they may merge it with the other thread.
Hi.
If I want to set it for missed calls and messages, what I have to select? Thanks
This is a proper location for this guide. It's where most users come to look for something like this. Look at the title of this section: "Guides, News, & Discussions"...
Leave it here, where it belongs.
And many thanks to the OP.

For missed calls select the Phone app.
For voice mail messages, select your visual voicemail app.
For SMS messages, select your Messages app.
This app doesnt work properly for me, it only shows notification around camera ring after i wake the screen, whats the point of it than?
Not to mention often there is like overlay over regular losckreen so i need to unlock twice, it comes over fingeprint area so i cant directly unlock phone from screen off.
Reinstalled it 3 times already just to see if im crazy or not and redid from scratch following 100% guide from youtube or net.
What im doing wrong here or it works like that for all?
@ivicask,
I can't tell you what you're doing wrong, but it's not supposed to work like that. On my phone it notifies me as soon as a new message notification arrives. Try experimenting with some of the options. And read all the notices that the developer put in the app.

Can you check if the "Screen is Off" is selected in the when a notification comes section. Also, did you disable Edge Lighting?
These are my settings and it works perfectly fine and the notification light stays on until I dismiss it. The red circled area is what needs to be changed to leave the notification light on until you dismiss it.
In the last screenshot, you scroll down through that list to select the apps you want a notification light for. Whenever you install a new app on your phone it gets automatically check off in that list. Just something to remember.
In addition whenever you make a change you have to hit save at the bottom.
This setup also works with Samsung stock AOD.

I wish people would stop recommending this app. I have had 0 success in using it and having it work as intended. I have tried your settings, and once again this does not work for me; When I get a notification, the screen lights up, shuts off, and there is no indication that a message has arrived. There are like 3 threads on this particular program that also offer suggestions on how to get the program to "work".
Yes, Edge lighting has been disabled. I even went a step further and rebooted the phone, then installed the app. Used your settings, as well as the other settings that have been suggested and I have the same outcome, I just don't get it. I am sure that atleast 100 of the reported downloads are form me trying to get this app to work LOL.
I appreciate your time to try to explain how you managed to get the app to work, but is not reliable imho, and I really wish it were
I just use the AOD, as much as I hate it, it's about the only reliable way to know that a notification has arrived.

I understand your frustration. But this app works as intended for some of us, and fills our needs. Those of us who are satisfied will continue to recommend it....
Look around. There are currently 4 devs with competing apps in the S10 forum. I'd suggest you try a couple of them and let us know if you find something that works better.

What are the other apps? I would love to try anything that would give me a working notification indicator.
You and I have a vastly different expectation when it comes to "working as intended". If it did work as intended, all of us would be able to have this app function correctly.
I also find it very convoluted and bloated. When creating a UI for any app, you should use the "user is drunk method". Meaning even if a person were intoxicated, they should be able to use the app. But that is neither here nor there.
I appreciate what the developer has done, I just haven't been able to accomplish the task at hand.

You will find threads for the other apps in the S10 (not here in S10+) "Themes, apps, and Mods" section.
FWIW, I agree with your comments about the UI.

Gotcha! Gonna go check there, thanks!
I have only a problem with this app.
When there is the notification I can't unlock the phone with fingerprint. I must wait the led/notch is off

I added a link to your thread on the original AOD thread. It's alway better to keep all the info in one place but I get what you were trying to do here. At least now they're li ked. ?

I also have had the same problem. I normally used double tap to wake. It is however, present in this app.
Select double tap to close this app. And just use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. It works. I have been using this.
About the Bloated UI of the app, I also agree with all of you. I also contacted the developer on this. He said he will look into this once the app become more stable.
Those, who could not get this app working, I'm sure there is some settings of your phone that are contradicting. For examplen if a notification wakes up the screen, this app will not notifiy. Moreover, yes, I have been using this app as my daily driver now. It does not disappoint me. I have used all the other apps available, Holey Light, Arc Lighting. None works as it should. They works as mentioned by the dev but those features are not the feature an LED-holic person is looking for. Holey Light cannot notify when not being charged. Arc notification ridiculously asks me to watch ad for every hour I use the app.
I am not being paid by the app developer to spread the words. I am spreading the word because it works for me and it SHOULD work for you also as we share the same device. There must be some conflicting app or settings. If anyone needs help settings this up, I would love to help.
