Worst Experience Ever. - HTC One X

can someone please make me feel better about this?
i got into android phones early 2011, when i bought my dad an hd2. i sold my iphone 4 and bought myself a g2x (it was the top out specs wise). i actually liked it alot. it was powerful and everything was great. a year later, this past august, i sold my g2x first, then bought the one x. bought it for 400 off contract and it was a DEVELOPER PHONE. it shipped S OFF. anyway i flashed renovate 3.0 over leedroid 6.4.0 and not the boot.img yet and it was okay until i wiped data. it went in a bootloop and died and i didnt think much of it. it went into apx mode. apparently because the OS's reserve battery shutdown didnt take place. anyway, had to send it to htc and its been a MONTH. mind you im an android enthusiast. worst part now is that my dumbphone, the samsung highlight, seems to be doing everything except browsing. i mean i can txt and download videos on my computer then convert to work on the phone. maybe im just used to it because i also used it for a while after i got the one x (didnt have time to go to tmobile to get my sim cut). please make me feel better. worst of all im losing pics with my cousin that were on the one x. nothing else is lost. just that.
EDIT: and now theyre giving me an att one x. the dual core thing -_-

Awww, you poor thing. Have a hug.

Wow, that's the worst experience you've ever had? Hmm.
And if you had used the search here, or google, you could have fixed that in 10 minutes flat.
I guess htc will not return your device as they will consider it stolen if it was an S-OFF demo or dev phone. Compared to your previous worst ever experience that's really going to sting.

i think the worst thing ever is starting to be the XDA general section
who told you XDA is the place to come and cry? i dont get it, its a freaking developer website! not kinder garden

WTF? could not understand alot of that!!!! :silly:

Let's all be Nice and send some pics from our cousins to help him feel better about this horrible thing...
Oh wait, better send food to starving Kids...

Take a gander at the OP's posting history.
I think there are times when we (myself included) are hard on people. This isn't one of them.

OP, is your phone even the Teg3 version? What you're describing as a "developers version" sound like a couple of early pre-release AT&T XL's that were sold on eBay. Regardless, I'd love to help you but couldn't figure out what it is you want or need in your original post.

Worst experience ever?
1. Read properly
2. Rom / kernel flashes need its booting flashing aswell.
3. Your pics should have been automatically backed up to drop box.
What's the problem?
Did you just not read properly? - then blame the phone?

yes it was tegra 3.
i searched and posted for nearly a week but no one helped so i shipped it off.
because of the apples itc ruling i am now getting an att one x back.
i disabled pic to drop box backup because i dont have data and as soon as i would turn on wifi it would just be such a huge load i didnt bother. i backup my sd files biweekly anyway.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus (ENGINEERING) Model?

Hey Everyone... Originally when I got my GNEX, I could have sworn that when I tried to unlock/root it, it had been easier than a lot of the instructions, but I didn't think too much about it at the time. (I got it directly from a VZW wireless store) I think at this point, it was already unlocked. Now that I've changed phones, I wanted to prep this one for selling, and I was trying to follow instructions on how to reset/relock the phone, but it doesn't seem to let me lock it with the fastboot oem lock commands... but if this is an engineering build, should I even bother? Or can I sell it as is and just state factory unlocked?
Here is an image of my "About Phone" after flashing back the google images that I downloaded from here: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/mysid-icl53f-factory-65895fa8.tgz

Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask, but I tried -looking- for a factory unlocked CDMA version to judge it against, and can't even seem to find any, am I just missing something? Are people selling them somewhere else?
You won't find a "Factory Unlocked" model, AFAIK they don't make them. What you have is somewhat unique, although not that useful since it's a Nexus device. If you want more info on what exactly you have this thread has a decent overview if you read the first 2 pages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1461386 Bottom line, your fine to sell it as is.
To the right person you will get more just because it is an engineering model! If I were you I would bank on that!!

I thought about that too when I first read the post. But, since this is a Nexus device to begin with, does that really get you anything?
I doubt it gets you anything but I want one lol. I'd pay maybe $20 more than a normal one but beyond that I'd get a stock. Someone may want it just to have it like me though.

Will do. Kinda bummed about the selling prices in general, haven't been able to decide what to list it for. Gonna throw it up with no reserve and see what happens.

If its rare people will pay, just due to the fact that no one else can get it.
I personally am the type of person you want to sell this to. I buy tons of stuff for hundreds more just because I collect tech.
***Speaking of which, if anyone knows someone that owns an original 20gb PS3 I am looking to spend $400 or more depending on condition. Been looking for 3 years. Also looking for a copy of Super Metroid for SNES, I`ll pay $60 with out box, $100 in box***
Anyways yeah, if I didn`t already own a Galaxy Nexus and was not in the process of looking for a Galaxy S2 White (perferably from France to use here in Canada) I`d pay around $800 easy.

I hadn't thought of it from a collectors point of view, I was thinking purely in terms of a developer. fiyawerx, maybe you should at least look for an alternative market? Maybe Adreno knows some other collectors?

No I don't sorry.
Only reason I threw out the $800 number is because, really its not that much more you'd pay buying a "normal" phone really.
I still remember paying something like $700 after tax for the Xperia x10 (ouch bad device) and another $700 for the Xperia Arc (Better device but still too much IMO)
$800 is not that big of a jump, and you are getting something truly unique.
***On a side note: I bought the Xperia x10 and my wife's first iphone, the white 3GS the same day...I think the total was like $1400. Imagine my surprise learning my brand new "latest tech" android didn't support multitouch....mmm still feel that burn! Oh well I guess 2 finger touch ended up being supported later, but by then I was on the Samsung Captivate. Loved the Captivate!***

Used daily for about 3 weeks daily, with a screen protector installed @ verizon when I bought it. Somehow it still managed to get a tiny line in it near the front camera in the upper right... you have to have the light hit it just right to see it, I tried getting it in the pictures here but could not. I took the screen protector off now to show how clean the real screen is, there's some dust on it though.
The pictures came out a bit too big that I'd want to post here, you can see them here:

One X v One XL

Whats the difference? I just ordered the one X but discovered there is a one XL forum. Is that just a different variant of it like Samsung did with the first Galaxy S ranges or is it a different phone?

It took 2 seconds for twistedh to respond to me and tell me what he already knew. I did google it but it brought up a lot of crap and there was no x v xl reviews. I did not want to read through the individual specs of both phones and compare them myself as I did not have the time.
Not only will this thread serve helpful for other members who come here and have the same query. It saved me a bit of time hunting down both phones specs and twistedh had no problem taking 2 seconds out of his time to tell me what he already knew.
Why dont you just relax. I know the same topic appearing can be a pain in the ass but I did not see this topic anywhere else in the forum.

We are all here for the same reason. We all want to have sex with the HTX X One and it is better for the community if we all get along. We can also make new friends with common interests. I look forward to reading more of the experiences you have with this great piece of technology we are about to receive.

The XL has less storage but is LTE capable and has a faster SOC. Nobody is too sure about battery life at this point.
I can't think of a single reason to get the X over the XL unless you can get a subsidized price on the X.

I can. Try a Vivid, with almost the same CPU (yes, S3 and clocked at 1.2), same amount of storage, and someone who lives in a non LTE area. We won't be getting LTE til prolly winter at the earliest. Even then, I'm only on WiFi and can't justify buying the at&t version when I would feel that it is an incremental upgrade over the Vivid. Besides, I would be buying it off contract anyway, so why not get the One (pun intended) that I feel would be a TRUE upgrade over the Vivid. That is my reasoning behing getting the unlocked T3 X.

Both of you are wrong, dual s4 is not the s3, the CPU is leaps better, however the GPU is the same GPU at higher clocks with added functions
as for 2x s4 > 5+1, t3 wrong again, do some proper research

No, read my post again. Excluding CPU, everything else in the Vivid would be an incremental upgrade. Major point is, I DON'T NEED LTE. I live outside of Memphis, TN. Memphis hasn't even got LTE yet, and won't til next year. I'm also on WiFi all the time and don't use any of my allotted 200MB. 2nd major point, I WILL BE PAYING FULL PRICE. I had a Snapdragon in my Inspire and now my Vivid. I want to try a different CPU while sticking with my favorite manufacturer, which is HTC. I don't care which is better, I have to pay full price for whichever I go with. So I will pay the additional amount of money over the AT&T version and buy the unlocked version. Not bein a butt here at all. I just don't wanna hear which is better til I can take my unlocked One X into AT&T and compare it to their version. I don't trust benchmarks for smartphones as they are easily manipulated unlike PC benchmarking software. I want to see real world performance and no lag.

Not bein a butt here at all. I just don't wanna hear which is better til I can take my unlocked One X into AT&T and compare it to their version. I don't trust benchmarks for smartphones as they are easily manipulated unlike PC benchmarking software. I want to see real world performance and no lag.

????? I justfied my reason, which has nothing to do with benchmarks. We are both gonna get the X, we can at least agree on that. It really don't matter which is faster than the other. Regardless of what it has internally, we are both gonna get the X and enjoy the crap out of them. Enjoy yours, cause I know I will enjoy mine! And that is what is what's most important. Funny thing is I won't be able to get mine til AT&T releases it anyway. Lol

My Galaxy S 3 sent to Samsung for repairs....?

Hello,
So I have 3 Samsung Galaxy S 3's and two of them are for Verizon and one for T-mobile... I have had nothing but issues with one of my Verizon models and my T-mobile is no better... So I sent it in to Samsung for repair and I noted that I had several different problems, such as screen flickering, home button sticking, power button falling off and random reboots. They received my phone yesterday and now today they claim that it is fixed and it says this in my notes " SOLUTION: Replaced Component - Replaced Cosmetic" and now they are sending it back, which is a great turnaround time but no one can tell me what they actually replaced or repaired??? I have made 4 calls and not one person can tell me what was done to the phone. I used to work for Nextel (before Sprint scooped em up) and I was a lead technician for them and whenever we repaired a phone or replaced a phone we always wrote down EXACTLY what was done and what parts were used to complete the task. I am going through some of the same issues with one of my Verizon units as well and keep getting garbage ass refurbs that solve one problem but add another... I am not trying to nitpick but I paid FULL price for ALL of my phones so that I could keep unlimited and I am going crazy cause I don't want another defective phone from Samsung... What do you guys think was done or what do they usually do (refurbish them)?? I am just hating Samsung right now so I had to vent and get some comments and opinions.... This is my first experience with sending ANY product in for warranty work as I usually have a local authorized facility close to me or Verizon has just kept on sending me there good ol "Certified Like-new refurbs" that they claim to go through a 100 point inspection check.... LMAO! Ya okay.... Then why is it that I have already received 2 bad refurbs from them if they are so "Certified"... It's too bad cause I just want a working S3 in my hands. :crying::fingers-crossed:
I honestly have no problems with my phone. I've heard some people complain about issues. But three phones with two replacements all having issues. I have to wonder if you are even for real.
That been said. It beats the hell out of me what Samsung would do. How you get it resolved. Personally I love my sgs3. And most IPhone owners who try it are wowed by it. Especially now with iOS6.

Well why would I sit here and write up a story cause I feel like trolling about phones on xda.... I have been a member since 2008 and have had about 100 phones since then... So no, I am not making these issues up. In fact there are several threads about refurbs from Verizon and some people are on their 4th or 5th refurb.... I do have one of my 3 that works FLAWLESSLY but I have had bad luck on the other two.... I love the S3 and would NEVER go back to IOS but I am just tired of getting defective replacements.... I am just looking to see what others have been through with Samsung repairing their phones.... I see your an old timer too! Damn 2006.... I don't ever think I have seen someone who has been a member since 2006 but with only 10 posts... I have to wonder if you are for real?? lol

iPhone comment wasn't need it, and since you bring it up apple has the best customer service, iOS is not my cup of tea anymore but apple customer service with my experience is the best, they had replaced my iPod right at the apple store no questions asked

Dude that sucks you got defective devices and it sucks the technicians can't tell you what was changed in my experience with Sony they have noted out sometimes what was wrong but not all the time, HP let's you know what was changed which is great (they have a website) i haven't deal with Samsung before but if their like HTC they will probably sent you reburshed unit, that been said I have never had problems with those units work like new to me, and never had any physical damage, good luck to you and hopefully just like Samsung is getting better at releasing phones they can fix their tech department as well

Ya I guess I am just a lil paranoid cause of my bad luck lately but I will just cross my fingers that I have a good working phone.... The power buttons are terrible on these phones it seems... They are firm once you get them then they slowly start to get REALLY loose and one of mine got to the point where it actually popped out... It is about the size of a grain of rice and I have yet to find it... LOL For the most part I don't regret any of my purchases I just think someone has to get the lemons and it might as well be me right....
They give a more detailed note on what they replaced in the receipt you get when the phone is returned to you, granted it's not much detail, but yeah.
And if it returns and it's still messed up, go to Verizon and T-Mobile and demand to see the manager, tell them the situation and asked them what they could do.

Sounds like a good idea! Some of the problems were intermittent so I find it hard for them to just see it for 30 minutes and ship it back out unless they just replaced everything except the main board...? I will just wait and see... Glad someone could chime in who has had experience with Samsung repairs cause that's what I was looking for was to see if Samsung did a good job for others... Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, actually got my Galaxy S II and Nexus S serviced not too long ago.
The NS took about 3 weeks to get back to me, from the time I sent it in the to the time I got it back.
Everything was in great working condition, and I believe they replaced a lot of the phone.
The original problem was my lock button didn't work anymore.
I only realized they replaced more than just the lock button because my screen looked brand new as well as the outer part, there were no scratches or dents, when I had a few on it before.
My Galaxy S II took about 5-7 days to get back to me from the time I sent it in to the time I got it back.
I did request for the repair to be expedited as it was a gift for my girlfriend and needed it before a certain day.
They did a great job at helping me and getting my request through.
But I'll give you this, they are horrible at knowing what's going on with the phone, their status updates are pretty lame.

Don't try going to a T-Mobile store to get a phone replaced if it is passed 30 days in California or 14 in other states. I've been a T-Mo rep for many years and I could think of maybe 2 situations in 5 years where I have seen someone get a new phone replaced after 30 days in store (This is from experience working 4 districts in SoCal/LA area and 1 in Norcal).
I wish you luck with the Samsung repairs though. Hopefully they actually did more than little cosmetic repairs to your phone and actually fixed it.
maybe they saw the bezel hitting the button causing the home button to not function properly. That sucks that you had to send them directly to samsung, i love my tmo plan with insurance! Any problems, and the next day i have a new phone. And before people start crying that they are refurbished, i really could care less, as long as it works like it should im happy.

HTC Droid Incredible 2 Ice Cream Sandwich – It Seems It’s Still In The Works (Android

Hmm? Posted 2 days ago
http://www.gforgames.com/gadgets/ht...ice-cream-sandwich-works-android-4-ics-28378/
The story behind the HTC Droid Incredible 2 and its Ice Cream Sandwich update that never came is quite long and full of pushbacks and angry letters. In case you’ve followed us during the past few months, you should already be aware of how things unfolded thus far. In a nutshell, the Incredible 2 was supposed to receive the Android 4.0 update, alongside the HTC Thunderbolt, by the end of August. That obviously didn’t happen and the roll-out has been pushed back indefinitely.
Better Link (Not sure how I missed this on the DL)
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/2...ible-2-owners-waiting-for-ice-cream-sandwich/
So you could say our ice cream is still being "churned"? Or is it still being agitated?
I like how the article says they are having connectivity problems with the update. Don't they read this forum? We had the same issue with the leak...but all of the other ROMS work. Why can't they figure out what the Devs did here and incorporate it...?
I do hate to be a Negative-Nancy, but I call B.S.
It's like the cheating BF/GF. Lies don't stop. It is a habit of misleading. Key word is habit.
This subject is a very sore one for me. I think ALL Android should be open source. I thought that was the point, and what made Android better than the rest.
What it comes down to is, I will believe it when I see it.
Though this did rile me up again enough that I will be writing to HTC again. Probably at least, but not only on their Facebook page.
As always, I encourage you to do the same. Squeeky wheel gets the grease, y'know.
I do think it's worth it to prod HTC - not in a malicious way, but nicely so they know we're waiting.
I also think it's worth waiting for them to finish the job.

Nice? Really? Nice should have been out the window the moment they passed their already ridiculously late deadline. ICS came out over a year ago and those clowns are still "working on it"? HTC clearly doesn't care about their customers so I don't see how politely asking them to do something is going to amount to anything I am glad they're experiencing record losses I'll never buy another one of their products. It's easier to pass the buck than it is to actually care about your customers and put in some work this update will never be released because neither party really cares.
ICS
I think that as soon as the "connectivity issues" (WiFi Tether Lockdown) are finally coded in we will see ICS for the DInc II.
That's what we got with the Spectrum.
It's more for the grandfathered unlimited customers, motivation to switch to the "Gimi What You Got", VomitRizen shakedown.
Ever since the "Paid Off" FCC allowed these cheeswads to fleece the public with tiered data plans they are chocking us on it...
It is probably a better deal for those who yak for hours and text up the **s.
But for me, the $60.00 a month increase for my 5 family members to have emergency communication, is just plain cruel.
As much as it hurts, I will have to kick out the lines one at a time.
Thanks Big Reda.
"We don't have any timing specifics right now, Chris. We'll let you know once we learn more!", was the response I got from an inquiry on their FB page.
Same thing they've been saying since the end of August.
And if phone companies (HTC, Samsung, lg, etc) would stop releasing a new phone every 3 months when most people are on 2 year contracts and update the phones that people still use we wouldn't be hear. The galaxy note 2 is already out and it feels like the note 1 JUST came out. That's a bit ridiculous in my opinion lol. My friend had his og droid only 2 years ago..and think of all the android phones since then.

That's how profit is made tho. Releasing a newer phone to get people to jump to the latest and greatest so that's why they tue them down to a 2 year because slot of people just wanna be on the greatest I know a lot switching from the s3 to dna or note 2 its all based on making money

Sounds good in theory to only release a new phone every 2 years but not everyone's contracts begin and end at the same time. Also like the post above me mentioned some people are willing to shell out for the latest and greatest, and others might just have monthly plans.
ETF and grandfathered unlimited is enough for me to stick with my phone for a while though

apple manages to do it. they might not wait 2 years for every phone but they literally only have the One line of phones and keep them all updated, and still make a ton of money. >.> albeit i'm not an apple fan at all. just stating the obvious here.
This is why I'm not going for an HTC phone ever again. This is obviously a publicity stunt pulled off only by HTC.

Waiting for an official ICS (and JB) upgrade is even more necessary in India. We are all using grey imports. Furthermore, for AlphaRevX or Revolutionary based roots (as most of us have), going back to Froyo and unrooting before doing a bootloader unlock, and then climbing back up to the CMs is not at all attractive.

I'm not dropping my DNA but I'm for sure getting the One.
I'd like to say I'm considering the HTC one, but not sure I'd consider it on Verizon. Id honestly like to see them come out with a smaller screen, like 4.3", with some decent hardware specs. Just not feeling the larger screens anymore.
I like the HTC One for sure, but I don't know if it's enough of a jump over the DNA to warrant the change. I'm still on unlimited data, so I'm going to need to buy my next phone outright, and I think it might be worth waiting for next year's HTC flagship since the DNA is still so awesome.
Pretty sure they will come out with DNA 2 in November. Just my hunch
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
I plan on getting it at some point, I just know it won't be at a subsidised price. I'd like to keep my DNA but the cheapest way for me to get the One will be rapid exchanging it at best buy until they junk it out cause I know they don't have too many DNA refurbs lying around (worked for bb until recently, I know my way around Geek squad plans). I would've waited for the one (just upgraded to DNA in April) if I didn't have that contingency in place. Still think the DNA is a great phone, I wouldn't mind or be surprised if another one showed up on the fall but with an even bigger screen (which is what kept me away from this one so long).

There's NO comparison between the DNA and the one. The one blows the DNA away in every aspect especially speed and efficiency. I run mine overclocked to 2.1GHz an still get 1/3 more battery life than my DNA at stock clock speeds. Screen is brighter, phone is thinner, cameras are better, DEVELOPMENT is better (because it's cross carrier), speakers are WAAAAAY louder and have depth..... get the one
It's actually crossed my mind to sell my DNA and pick this up.. I have to sell the DNA because I can't afford a retail purchase without the cash from the DNA .. I could always just add a line and upgrade.. but not sure that would be a viable option ... Still waiting on the retail cost.. Will it be the same as other carriers with the One you think?

I'd guess around 650-700 retail. I cant remember if the DNA was 650 or 699, but I was thinking the One was slightly cheaper when it launched.
I should add to my above comment in the second post, it's likely I'll get the ATT version of the One, because of the development with the GSM versions. I carry an ATT and Verizon device in my pocket, so it may end up being One and DNA as my daily drivers.
You guys interested in the One, you can sell really old smartphones like the Wildfire, Blackberry Curve, Incredible, etc for $100 a piece in ATT gift cards.

Just think, the first time I paid full retail for a phone and the first time I have ever damaged a device were about a week apart. Yeap, I busted my $700 device when it was a week old, I was sick.
I was really scared to tell my girlfriend as she bought it for me for Valentines Day. But when I finally told her she was like "Baby really? The phone, you're that upset about a phone? I thought you got a little girl pregnant or something, you really had me scared."
Don't get me wrong, the One is an amazing phone, but I would rush off the DNA. Its still a powerful device, and in my opinion the One isn't a huge enough leap for me to rush to get it. .02$

lol they are the same phone. the one only has a sightly faster cpu out of the box and diffrent speaker placement. .... both phones have independent amps a similar shape, similar components, similar software (they even have a rom if you like blinkfeed).... 200 mhz faster big whoop, is not like you cant oc it to 1.7... its silly to buy one if you got a dna..... its like throwing away or trading in a black 2012 Tahoe for a silver 2013 Tahoe (its the same exact truck).. if you had like a gs3 or a razr or something older it makes sense to wait a lil bit and buy it instead of the dna cuz it is the newest phone.

lol they are the same phone. the one only has a sightly faster cpu out of the box and diffrent speaker placement. .... both phones have independent amps a similar shape, similar components, similar software (they even have a rom if you like blinkfeed)....

You can't assume that features like those you mentioned are the only thing important to everyone. It's kind of like assuming that everyone who buy's a device plans to talk on it. We are far from the average or typical consumers and there's way more than a few hundred mhz to our purchasing decisions.
I'm not saying you are right or wrong, I'm just saying that you should consider with an open mind that a lot of people could care less about the specs on the side of the box and put the emphasis on something dev related when making purchases. It's like saying everyone cares about battery life. Or nobody likes HTC Sense. There's a wide variety of people, ideas, and personalities in the development community that the standard consumer rules don't apply too.
You have to also remember that the reason we have Android devlopers on new devices is because they were stupid enough to buy a new device that was only a slight upgrade above the old one.
Off Topic: I spent three days with a GS4 and wasn't impressed with it at all.

I have the one and dna.... The ONE is solo much a better phone. Not knocking the DNA but the ones screen is so much better and vibrant and is the perfect size at 4.7 inch.
