I have been using the Screen lock so that may son will not use the phone without my permission. Used it for 3-4 months now.
Today i t stopped working.. i can receive calls,, but i can insert the 4 digit PIN
i am pretty much dead I can't use the phone i have 1600 numbers have a business to run.. have to make phone calls .. is there any way to go around the hard reset?
I am thinking that IF there is a way around the pattern screen lock maybe there is one for the PIN as well...
EDIT 1: I also tried to push the Down Volume Button and the power button.. with no success could it be that the up/down buttons are dirty???
Please advice

What happens when u put in ur pin? If u can select ur numbers but nothing happens, try putting in the wrong pin 5 times i think and u will then have to put in ur email address and password and then u can set up a new screen lock or disable it. Also if ur s-on (no custom rom/stock) try removing sdcard and boot up the phone. I read that somewhere before, dunno if it works r not.

If u have root access and adb enabled on ur phone u can look at this.
The only other thing i can think of is clearing storage from bootloader menu but u will loose all data so probably not an option

Why did this happen?? I've had absolutly no problems before, using a customised rom and everything has been very smooth lately, until today, I used my GPS on the way to the beach, so the phone had 14% battery by the time I got there, I switched it off, about 5 hours ago, turned it on, and when I enter my normal screen PIN CODE **4 Digits** it wont work??? why??? i'm trying to reset the device now to like default rom or a different rom, but the problem is it wont connect via activesync unless I put the screen code in.... I am 100% sure i didnt change the screencode or anything... all i done was switch the phone off, and back on a few hours later :S HELP ME PLEASE??!!! I've taken out the battery, sim card, and SD Card and tried without the sim card and SD and still same problem.... Neva had this problem before... what do I do?!! right now ive just taken out everything and leaving it on the table!! PLease HELP ME OUT!!
ps: this is the normal screen lock... from within windows... not a sim card lock or anything... the lock you do from the start menu... just the simple one... still very confused!!! nothings working!!! i enter it wrong a few times and it says enter a1b2c3 to re-enter codes again.... wth??!!
do you have a backup of the device? If so I would try restoring a back up from a few days ago and try unlocking it then. Otherwise I have a feeling that a hard reset is in your future.
hard-reset okay cool, i dont have anything important, ive backed up everything from a few days back, will only lose a few days worth of messages thats all... how do i hard reset? i'm gonna go search, but plz point me towards a link thnx... hope i dont have to return it to manufactorer or warranty or something like that :S
First turn off the phone. Press and hold the pickup and disconnect buttons simultaneously and turn on the phone.
Thnx I found it, all I did was search google for Hard-Reset HTC Touch Pro 2... That was really stupid though how it locked and wouldnt accept my password?? still confused as to how that happened :S
This has just happened to me - switched the phone off for the night and in the morning it won't accept my password.
Anyone else had this problem or know of a solution? Have the cooks ironed this out on their ROMS? (I'm using stock orange ROM).
Basically my HTC Desire HD about 6 months old now has had pretty much nothing go wrong.
But today after using my phone all day it has decided to give up! I have called my phone and it rings and lights up but I still cant slide down the screen to pick up the phone.
The top button works to light up the screen but when I try to slide down the lock screen the phone does not respond.
The phone hasn't frozen because the top button works, I think it is a problem with the screen.
Firstly I would know if anyone understands what I am saying and if anyone else has experienced this problem.
Finally is there any solution to this problem?
Have you tried to force shutdown and restart the phone? Or the lockscreen is not responsive at all in the restart attempt?
8penned from my blazing fast DHD
When you say forced shut down you mean taking the battery out right? Because I've done that soo many times and the result is no different!
Surly it can not only be my phone to have this problem!
I had this issue before, the screen was totally unresponsive. Wiping and flashing rom didn't do the job, even nandriod backup didn't do the job. The solution was to install an ruu.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Cheers for all the help but I've fixed it now, I left it on charge all night hoping it would spring into life but no this didnt work!
Then I took the sim card out and switched the phone on and the screen became responsive. At the same time I did this I also pushed hard on the back of the screen.
So I dont know whether the force fixed it or taking the sim out did. Personally I think it was removing the sim but I have no idea why that helped.

You can go to menu/settings/advanced(CM) settings/display/ then check screen on animations. Not sure which of his roms you are talking about but if it's one of his AOSP roms this will help.

Hi thanks- ya there is no 'advanced settings' and the setting on animations is 'all animations' instead of no or some. I am just going to partition another card and get 'the express' rom which seems like the rom to have...

The Express is an awesome rom, you wont be disappointed.
Ya I tried to flash it last nite but my desktop is not recognizing any devices through usb which explains why I get an error that my printer is not connected when I try to use it... one thing after another

Thanks man- I just reread your advice on animations and I think you meant 'no' animations instead of 'on'. I just set it to no animations and the home screen seems to come back now out of the time out screen. I have to hit the power button a few times, the lit menu buttons go out and when they come back on I've got a screen.
Do you know if I can install a blank sd card into the phone?- to partition to install 'the express' once I can flash it from my computer which is the only way I know how.
Thanks again,
Tj

No need for a new card unless your upgrading. Either way, if it is your current or a new sd, BACK IT UP TO THE PC first. And yes I saw that your pc is not recognizing the device, sounds like you will need to install the proper drivers (to your pc) for it to work. I would suggest going to this guide -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386911 I believe HipKat has all the steps for what your wanting to do, laid out much better than I can chicken peck on this keyboard, lol.
Good luck!

Hey Jamie- I found since someone shut the pc down improperly that's what caused Windows to now recognize things- I actually just unplugged it and going to give it a few before plugging it back in. I should be good to go. The only other problem I am having since selecting no animTions is the display brightness is at the lowest setting. Trying to adjust/ autoi does nothing. Any advice on that one?- heading out for a late breakfast and going to flash the express when I get back but this phone is hard to.see till then for incoming calls- thanks god I have a tablet. Figuring how to.root that thing will be interesting.

Under settings/display de-select auto brightness. Should be a toggle in your power menu as well.

Hey thanks again Jamie- I had a new 8 gig micro sd card so I took my original out and put that in and partitioned as one tutorial had it laid out using Amon RA Recovery? The partitioning went well and I got the Express ROM on and installed nice except for a small issue the timeout or lock screen won't come out of lock screen unless I remove the the battery. I did what you told me to do on the Sinister ROM and switched the animations off and was able to come out of the idle or lock screen after about a dozen presses of the power button. Apparently it wasn't the Rom. Half the time I can't answer a call. I read a post on this site a last week on this same issue someone else had. The solution was some type of "pack" supposedly needed to be installed to the ext partition or something like that. I have tried to find that post ever since and cannot since. When I gohit 'search this forum' and the search field appears, the keyboard appears then disappears. Do youyou know anyone I maybe able to get into contact with that would be able to help me resolve this? So what type of devices do you have. I've also got the Samsung Galaxy 4G LTE 10.1 that I tether to which is nice.
I have been having a bit of a time finding solutions to certain things on here...

If you have your brightness set to the lowest, i've noticed that is what screws up unlocking for me. set your brightness higher as soon as you turn your phone on and see if that helps
So after about 1 year and 1 month of owning this phone, this phone started getting crazy.
First the wifi started messing up, I barely get 3 bars when my phone is taped to the router.
Now the bottom buttons don't even work, when I click them they start clicking around crazy like opening a text box or selecting an option.
I lost my warranty sadly and don't know what to do. I don't mind the wifi I just want the buttons to work
.. Well..

Hi
I (and I unfortunately thing We) can't help you this way.
Maybe you can give me some information about how you took care for this phone.
Did you ever drop it..? Did you install some new firmware/kernel..?
I'm about to help you, but unfortunately I can't because I don't know what's the problem.

All stock no new software update since like 4 months (checked for a new one doesnt exist)
My phone has always been in a cover safe etc, taken care of no water 100%
What happened is the home button/back/recent apps just stopped working when ever I click them nothing happens except for an option on the main screen being selected as if I touched that option
All lights on buttons work
Well try a factory reset from the bootloader, but be warned that it formats the whole phone ! For safety also backup the sdcard !
As Mr. Hof says, try doing a full factory reset via bootloader.
If you don't know how to access the bootloader:
1. Turn on your phone, at least at the bootscreen
2. Hold down the POWER-button and the Volume-down-button for about 15 seconds, so that the buttons are flickering and keep holding until you see a white screen with at the top : **LOCKED**
3. Go to Factory Reset with the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select.
I hope that helps for you!
Let me know!

will give it a shot
If you do a factory reset, you will only lose the things that are on you Phone, and thus not on your Internal SD card. But, make sure you got everything you want to keep what's on your phone is on your Internal SD card. I recommend using ASTRO File Manager to manage your files, and copy it to your internal SD card, which ís accessable by connecting the device to your computer, but I believe if not, you first have to install an HTC Driver.

By the way!
The Wi-Fi problem occurs at many HOXs! It's a hardware problem. Try squeezing on the back of the phone between the camera and the volume button. If the Wi-Fi will become stronger, you've also got this problem, at least, I have. You can fix it by opening your phone (voids warranty) and placing a piece of aluminum foil on the right place. Go and search for a tutorial on YouTube or so. I can't help you with hardware, I'm sorry!

Watch out with what you write, there have certainly been reports of wiped sdcsrds after a factory reset. That's why i recommend them to always make a backup. Believe me, i know what im talking about here......
Oh, I actually did not know that. I'll check out some more forums before I post more, to prevent mistakes! Thanks for saying!

Doesn't HTC have a two year warranty?
In Holland they do, i'm sure.
Had my Sensation repared under warranty after almost two years.
Had to send it directly to HTC.
I'm also from Holland, and you're right. But I don't know if this counts for all countries. Guess not.

Something are repaired by factory reset like Mr hoffs said just back sdcard ...then do a factory reset then you can setup all back and if its all not repaired then you have to send it in...as your phone is locked and you didn't flashed any Rom etc they should repair without charge.....

I'd say plug it in to the computer and try getting into the phone.. You might have to tap on the screen even though it's broken it could probably still accept touch and you'll need to try to tap "ok" in order to get access or you'll have to try to use smart switch app to try.
The screen is unresponsive, I can't even try to guess where the buttons are to enter the pin

Your best bet is try to find a screen then.. I had that problem 1 time in my life and I found a screen on Ebay that was cracked pretty badly but it still worked and it allowed me to at least connect it and get my stuff transferred.. You should also check your gmail account because the Google account you have a lot of the phones backup themselves automatically and you might be able to get it back onto another phone.

I would be able to help you get what you need off the phone if youre in the NJ area. Ive been able to help out people in similar situations before.
