[Q] new nexus advice?!! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

my nexus comes to me on monday... coming from the thunderbolt this should be fun... any ideas on what roms i should try out first??? any suggestions would be great thanks!!!

first off you should unlock bootloader right when you get it, cause it will delete what ever is stored in your SD, as for the ROM i personally like AOKP cause they have plenty of customizations.

Check out the sticky threads in the Q&A section.

and the stickies on the general section.

[Q] SkyRadier Wireless Tether

this verison of Wireless tether is amaaaaazing!! I have never connected and have had such fast speeds?!?!? Which version is this?? is it avail on google's source downloads
There is something called the General Forum. This is not a question forum. Now if you want to get banned for continuously posting in the wrong forum your well on your way.
Not only that, why wouldn't you go to the website you got skyraider from in the first place and ask there?

Still belongs in the general forum. You'll get answers there. This section is implicitly for roms, debugging, and related issues, this forum is gigantic and general questions would really clog it up. It's hard enough to keep up with everything going on as it is lol.
That said, skyraider roms will have more support on team bamf forums, you'd have more luck there. Or if you like said app so much, then just back it up to your SD card via titanium or similar and restore it on whatever Rom you flash later.

Can you please make Nexus S and Nexus S 4G separate threads

Hi,
Im just wondering what needs to be done to get xda to make 2 separate forums for the nexus s and the nexus s 4g. Obviously development is different, but so are the topics that are talked about in the general section... such as which kernel to use... noobs can get very confused and flash something that isn't for their device. If there's anything I can do to help get 2 separate threads going for these devices please let me know.... it would help a lot of people out.

Why is the AOKP ROM in the General Discussion section?

I ask because I rarely go to the General Discussion area and only recently found AOKP there - I don't frequent General too much. It's a great ROM and I wish I had found it sooner (in the Development section).
I believe the Dev accidentally posted it there and decided to keep it there.

Read the rules of the Dev section. The rom is not built from Source it's a port there for it does not belong in the Dev section right now.
Also I would advise taking more trips over to the General and Q&A section since there is where you would learn of a lot of how to and how not too brick ones phones as in the case of the Epic over the past month. As well as some interesting facts that do pop up over here and its better to be informed than mis-informed I always say
Honestly, I spend more time on general than I do in dev. Way more interesting topics

Best ROM/Kernel for Verizon nexus....???

Either Tuesday or Wednesday i will be receiving two brand new new Verizon nexus's (32G's in the box with acces...) as a result of the popping and squealing issue i was having with my Samsung charge's. I am just looking for some input on the most stable custom ROM/Kernel out there. I've seen gummy and im definitely digging that but, this is a new adventure for me and all the insight from the nexus community would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I already have my galaxy nexus toolkit dl'd and im ready to use this amazing stuffs!!!!! hahaha.. awesome guys!! lol

The advice I will give is to NOT use the toolkits. The Galaxy Nexus is very "hacker" friendly.
Read up on the sticky about unlocking your bootloader and flashing roms instead. It's an easy and great learning experience and will help you get out of trouble later if problems arise.

OP Forum rules specifically ask you to search before posting
Asking what's the best ROM is the same as asking what ROM are you using.
ALL ROMS are the best
Read and try them out.
If you don't have time to read you should not be flashing custom ROMs on your $700 device.
Thanks

Why is this not a sticky in every sub-forum?

I ran across this in the Nexus 4 Dev forum..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1982483
So why is this not the header of every dev section!!! ¡
I know you don't know.. Lol...
So you guys think we should have a similar post?

Definitely needed in this forum, seems like a lot of cherry-pickers looking for acknowledgment for cutting and pasting other peoples stuff.
Most roms out there are just cm or aokp with a few tweaks and cosmetic changes or a straight port .....always been that way and always will. Gonna be a real quiet dev section if "copies" weren't allowed. Most are just learning by doing this and sharing....I see no harm in it personally.
If we had more development than we do.....an original dev section and regular dev section may work....like nexus 7 forum for example....but with t989 I think moving roms to general or another dev section isn't necessary.
Just my opinion.

If you read the post. Those ROMs could go in the general section until they mature past a learning experience.

I read it just fine. And my personal opinion (yes...imho) is that it just mucks up the general section. Let people flash the copy roms if they want...their choice. And like I said....about half the t989 roms would end up there.
I just don't think our dev section is busy enough to be worried about this. Some phone sections definitely need these rules, nexus devices for example....but the t989 dev section is not so packed that I think those roms are muddying the waters much.
Where do you suggest the line be drawn as to what is suitable for dev section? We have cm, slim, aokp, skyrocket ports and other roms being altered slightly and in our dev section.....they aren't hurting anyone...and the guys are learning a lot and sometimes making improvements.....but, are they original works? ? So they will all go to general section?
I guess then, to agree in part, I think an original dev section, and a regular dev section may be a better idea. Again....like the nexus 7 for example.
The noobs get slammed by enough unamed veterans already for not searching hard enough.....putting a bunch of roms in general will just make it messy and worse.
Check out the i9100 general section. A mess if you ask me.
K....sorry for the novel!

Also....with t989 devs getting new devices and moving on....why not encourage and support the guys just starting out. Let them go at their pace.....they may be the veterans soon as our current top devs move on.
As I said, its the users choice to flash the roms they flash.....what's the difference what section they're in? To me....all roms should be in dev section. Much less confusion.

Eh, that's not completely true about Nexus forums; there are a lot of Nexus only/original ROMs out. Most newer devices have two dev forums; one for original development (custom kernels, 'original' ROMs, etc.), and the other just 'normal' android development (kangs like stated above).
If you want to see the 'original' ROMs, check out the original dev section.

I know what you're saying...and I think its a far better idea than putting any roms in general. Just too messy!
Sent from my cell phone telephone....
Yeah. I see where your coming from. It would be messy and that may get annoying as well.
But to be honest there is to much leniency in this forum. Dropping straight compiled builds from source "to learn" is not helping the community and is not helping that person learn...
I can build from source and compile that doesn't mean that I know how to build a ROM or that it's a good idea to post them and clutter up the dev section.
I can unzip an already built rom and move some application files around and add some stuff to the build.prop. Does that mean I built a ROM? No. It means that I know how to use WinZip. And definitely should never be in any dev section.
Now I also know some c# , some basic, a little bit C++. Now if I or somebody else use that knowledge to take a pre existing ROM and actually assist in the development or fix problems or issues then that is development and that would belong in the development section.
This is obviously all my opinion. Some of you may agree , some of you may not, some of you might even be one of these people I'm talking about. And this is neither here nor there I simply think everyday dev section should have a sticky like this.
