A Firefox plugin causes this site to refresh every second - About xda-developers.com

I'm using Firefox v15.0.1 to view this site, but it started to automatically refresh itself every second. I disabled all addons, then the site worked fine. Can anyone tell me what may be causing this? These are what I have:
Extensions:
Adblock Plus
DownloadHelper
IE Tab 2
NoScript (all scripts allowed on this site)
Personas
Show Picture
YouTube Auto Replay
Plugins:
IE Tab Plug-in
Java Deployment Toolkit
Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U7
NPCIG.dll
NVIDIA 3D Vision
NVIDIA 3D VISION
QuickTime Plug-in
Shockwave Flash
VLC Web Plugin

Maybe the ad blocker but I doubt it. The rest, I don't think would do anything.

Good point. OP you should do that. You would find the problem really fast.

Problem may be ABP+NoScript.

I'd take a stab at it being noscript, as the site does depend on javascript to operate (particularly in the new theme)
Perhaps try XDA classic or 2010 if you need noscript?
(or take a look at the scripts, satisfy yourself, and enable them on the CDN domain and main site domain)?

fwiw, I had the same problem, both Classic and 2010 work fine on both Windows 7 and MacBookPro9,2 10.7.4 with FF 14.0.1.

Hulu on evo

seeing as Hulu blocked android's version of flash, (they say 'licensing issues' because they don't want us getting their content on the go for free, even tho it's ad supported, they all want us to go through itunes and amazon and pay for each episode of the office or whatever show you like) would it be possible to have the android browser use a different browser profile, such as using it and it shows up as a regular chrome browser from windows to the website? I remember that safari on the mac/pc has this built in with the dev mode turned on, and I know firefox can do it with an extension (probably chrome too), but would it be possible on android to be able to get hulu? (I've not had an android phone yet so I still have no idea. Still stuck with Apple's itorture 3gs, can't believe I bought another iphone after the 3g. only 12 days until EVO!)
I 've read some reviews saying they got to view hulu just fine and others stating the exact opposite.
I dont know what to believe.
stock no, there are many reports of froyo working with hulu though. So now that root has come to the evo maybe they can install custom roms too. if thats the case im sure someone will bake a delicious froyo rom
lol, one day later I get my answer here
The funny thing is I texted the guy at engadget with the Evo 4g review unit (the phone number is in a picture with a sticky not on the box) and he never replied back. Coincidence? lol I think not. I can even show the texts to prove it but I sold my iphone today so i'd have to restore my moms iphone to get the texts back, and I'll only go that far if I really must

all you have to do is make Hulu think you're using a desktop browser, which can be done simply by entering "about:debug" in the address bar and switching the UAString setting from Android to desktop.

Actually I think about:debug only works in the Android browser. I think they Sense browser won't do that. At least that didn't work for me.

Sense browser will do that. Yes, hulu will load and even start to play sometimes, but I have not seen it actually play more than a second or two of video. I gave up after playing with it for a bit.
I really wish hulu would step up their game and jump on the mobile bandwagon like everyone else.

As far as I know, its not Hulu's fault. It's the licensing agreement(s) with content providers (NBC, Viacom, etc.) that doesn't allow mobile distribution. But I agree, they are only hurting themselves by not adapting to current demands, especially with big, beautiful devices such as the Evo 4g getting into the hands of consumers.
the about:debug setting has been disabled by hulu. you have to find another workaround. you'll find the solution in the xda section for the only device that currently has froyo

[Hack]Turn pages in Acrobat Reader faster

This is a small hack for Acrobat Reader which allows you to skip around 30 pages in landscape mode and around 13 in portrait mode by pressing previous/next buttons.
Next button won`t make a last jump at the end of the document.Install the xap from the archive to use it(the hack is a modified original reader dll). You can also modify nextPage_Click and prevPage_Click methods in AdobeReader.il(ldc.r8 25.0 does all the magic here) to alter the jump distance, then build it with ilasm as a dll and make a new xap.

Can you give a link to the pdf you have problem with? Btw if i wont be able to fix the bug, you can still scroll pages using the screen, not the buttons, its not that painful for small docs(<30 pages), it only becomes an issue with real books in pdf format.
I would love to see reflow come to Adobe reader for wp7, I'm guessing we need to wait for Adobe to fix that.

T-Mobile Now Blocking BROWSER Strings

Be aware that T-Mobile is now checking Browser User Agent strings and is apparently blocking those with various things in them -- "Cyanogen" being, apparently, one of them.
Guess how I found this out?
Opera and similar will still work (of course) but this is a particularly-evil thing for them to be doing, as it now means that if you develop up something you're going to have to take some care to EXACTLY match a stock browser ID or it's likely you'll get bounced.
They've used this trick for quite some time to detect tethering, but now it appears they're just denying PHONE strings that are perfectly legitimate and from actual PHONE firmware if it's not theirs.
I'm not sure what's happening but I was able to not only search for it but browse the cyanogenmod.com website. That's serious censorship stuff if TMO is actively blocking access selectively like that.
No no you're missing the point.
Your browser sends a "User Agent" string that the web server can use to customize for the sort of device you are. This is why some sites come up with a "mobile" interface optimized for a smaller screen.
Well, carriers can intercept that -- that's how they detect tethering if you go around their "tethering manager" garbage, incidentally. AT&T has done this for a long time and T-Mobile started doing it a few months ago.
As of this evening I got an error while testing a CM7 build on another device stating that my browser agent string was invalid. The only thing odd about it is that it identified as a T-Mobile device with a Cyanogen firmware build on it, and they refused to let it go through. Opera of course works as do other browsers, but the stock Android one was refused.
Very naughty, in my opinion, and this is going to make custom firmware a bit more fun as developers and such will have to "spoof" an official T-Mobile browser UA or they're likely to find it doesn't work at all.
download Miren browser, and move on.
Well yes, other browsers work fine. But this is just another kick in the nuts from the "T".

Kick 'em right back in the nuts with the APN workaround.
Ok I dont understand your logic.
You can download Dolphin browser on a stock phone, and change the user agent to desktop, iphag, or custom...
This is a silly post because it dosnt mean youre rooted, tethering, or have a custom rom.
As for T-mobile governing you, its their equipment (switches, access points...) they can do what they want basically. We are here to find ways arround that.
Point being that it's just going to be another thing that people will have to deal with, and its pointless from a carrier perspective.
I can see them looking for the common laptop and desktop stuff and screaming "Tether!" if they find it, but barring an obvious mobile browser because it's not one of "theirs" is rather foolish -- and annoying.

It seems to be gone now. Search for black Miren browser on Google. That's what I did and the black version is awesome.
This does not happen for me I'm the self alpha cm rom. I can get to any website just fine. Using the stock cm browser. I even installed cm on another device. It still works.

I just had an issue with this for the first time a day ago.
Using opera, I tried to visit my bank and kept getting blocked/redirected to a wifi tethering uosell page. Also, tethering stopped working.
Rebooted, opera is working again, but no wireless or usb tethering.

Actually I do understand the need to prevent unauthorized tethering. My comment was pointed directly at the censoring of specific websites which appears to be happening to the OP. TMO has the right to block unauthorized tethering but to wall off specific sites is an entirely different animal. Sorry I wasn't clear in my original reply.
Cheers
When doing about:debug in the stock browser on 2.3.6, I couldn't even find the setting to change the UA string. I think they removed it?

Eh this is lame. T-Mobile is doing some really lame things now.
Can someone tell me how to replicate this? I am on a custom ROM and can browse Cyanogenmod.com website just fine.
I use Opera Mobile and Firefox Mobile with desktop user agent strings and have no problems. Then again I haven't tethered in months.
To those that think webpages are being censored you're misunderstanding; when you browse on a mobile device there is a little bit of code that tells the webpage what kind of device you're on and what software its running. This is called a user agent. Tmobile has started blocking devices on custom software (read roms) from accessing the web at all. This will only happen on roms that have had the user agent modified for example cyanogenmod.
It is not a censorship issue its a net neutrality issue.

that doesn't sound likely at ALL.. it sounds more like a glitch than anything else.

You would need to target "Any CPU" in the .NET code, and recompile any third-party x86 libraries that you are using to target ARM, and it would probably work then. Most (although not all) of the system libraries on Win8 are also on Windows RT, and (at least in the case of .NET libraries), the ones that aren't can sometimes be brought over from a Win8 box anyhow.

At the moment, I am trying to get geckoFX 15 and xulrunner 19 added to the project so I do not have to use the default WebBrowser component given in Visual Studio. If you would like, I could send you the source and maybe you could help porting to Windows RT and adding geckoFX? Btw after v1.0 this will be Open Source to all Thanks for all the support guys.
Works now thanks, scrolling is a little hitchy how ever its a great start. On another note would it be possible to make the onscreen keyboard auto pop up?
Will the flash be optimized, the browser is really fast. Its just the flash side of things that is buggy.
Seems to bypass the Flash whitelist on Windows RT. That's quite handy.
Re: [APP] Lemon Browser v0.9.7.3
I can surely attempt the auto pop up on screen keyboard, also the glitchy scrolling will be fixed soon. Thanks

Just FYI: a web browser requiring Administrator to run is absolutely unacceptable. Browsers should run with extremely limited permissions (lower than standard user, ideally) rather than elevated permissions. I fixed this by hand-editing the .EXE file's embedded manifest to run AsInvoker (rather than RequireAdministrator). You should change the manifest in VS. Preferably, the whole thing would run in a low-IL sandbox the way IE does, and/or use some other sandboxing technique.
Also, there's little reason, especially for RT-targeted builds, to use Debug unless you include the source files and expect people to use them when reporting bugs. Release builds are typically smaller and faster.
Finally, could you get this to use a somewhat less awful rendering engine than IE7? I don't mind using Trident in general, but IE7 is archaic and awful. How do you justify "faster than Chrome" on a browser that can't even pass Acid2, much less run a modern speed benchmark? Gecko would be awesome, though I don't believe anybody has managed to port it to RT yet so that would be x86-only at first.
There are other things I'd like to see, ranging from simple UI conventions (double-clicking the tab bar, tapping Alt to show the menu bar, etc.) to some significant security issues (loading mixed content - that is, HTTP content on an HTTPS site - is a potentially serious risk).
Re: [APP] Lemon Browser v0.9.7.3
I appreciate the feedback, about the debug, i honestly did not even think about that, its just much faster to update using the debug folder. I will make it the release build next time. Next - about the admin permissions - Unfortunately this is needed to enable the temporary download of version.txt (allows OTA updates). And I was not planning on targeting the RT at all. I simply made this on my windows 8 laptop and released to the public for however they would like. I am now working on a 3D FPS though and will be releasing the code to this very shortly. And for the IE7 subject, I tried using firefox component but it does not allow the "LoadComplete" sub. Simply put, I do not know how to do 'if web page loaded' do this. I need this feature so i can load favicons etc. Please understand that this was made < 1 week ago. I highly appreciate all the comments though because I can not even begin testing all of these. Plus with school and other activities I do not expext this to be a huge project. Just simply a fun project (focused on gui) to add to my projects. Thanks again
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
No worries on the Debug/Release, just a tip.
The admin thing, though... that's a serious problem. If the problem is just downloading a file, download it to the local application data folder instead of the install directory. If auto-updating is desired, make a separate updater that runs as Admin, and have the browser launch the updater program when it detects an update.
That said, though, admin is only needed if the browser is "installed" to a location where Admin is required to write. Programs installed in (for example) the user profile don't require this. In fact, on machines where the user *can't* get Admin (think about computers at a school, library, or office), the fact that it can install and run without requiring admin is a major advantage.
I understand that this is a side project for you, and I applaud you for hobby programming and sharing it with us, that's fantastic to see. I also do quite like the GUI, although I find it a bit bare-bones at the moment. Additionally, you getting it to work on RT is fantastic. However... I cannot in good conscience recommend using a web browser that sets the state of environment security back by nearly seven years. The web is an extremely hostile "place" and we've learned many lessons over the years. one of the critical ones is that web browsers are simply too easy to attack for them to be trusted; the only safe way to use one is to assume it will be compromised, and run it in a suitable contained environment. Microsoft did his with the IE7 Protected Mode on Vista betas in 2006, but even on XP it was possible to run IE as a non-Admin.
Re: [APP] Lemon Browser v0.9.7.3
I will admit chrome will always be my favorite browser Just wanted to throw something visually appealing together though after seeing all the horribly designed ones on youtube lol. If anyone would like the source just email me. The code is (slightly cluttered) but OCD friendly. everything labeled and named properly. If someone would like the source, i recommend also downloading the android holo icons from their site. That is what I am currently using and this allows identical pre-made light / dark icons.

Hello !
really thank for this build ! :good:
A question:
Can you integrate a download manager which allow us to download files with screen off but which avoid the complet stand-by state of the tablet during the download ?
Because with IE it's impossible to download something with the Surface screen OFF.
It could be a really cool feature, and the only browser which allow that ! :highfive:

Thanks! I appreciate that aha. Major update (kinda lol) will be released soon. Have to work on Mango Tools first (I might toss a thread up on this tool) but this can be found on my site mellowdev.net It just allows you to easily perform ADB commands on android phone. Anyways right after this I will work on v0.9.8! Hoping to add lots of cool, unique features to give this browser an edge. I know that speed means a lot and I have received many complaints on using the IE7 component. However my focus at the moment is to add features. Web browsing for most is just type in words and search. I want this to be so much more. So anyways aha thanks again. Love the support here!

Remote desktop...... Buy differently wanted.

Trying to find an app that will let me remote desktop my tablet from my phone?
Is it even possible?
I was in bed last night and wanted to do something on my tablet, but it was downstairs, and I couldn't be arsed to get it, this is my main reason for it.

You could try AirDroid.
Install on Tablet, then access via the browser on your phone...
There are 2 Apps:
RemoDroid
Tablet Remote
But both are pretty slow and worthless..
Tablet Remote is probably the better of the two, speed and reliability wise, but basic
Think both require root, but maybe just RemoDroid.. not sure...
You could also try Installing VNC Server on your Tablet, then a VNC Viewer on your phone..
Would probably work better the other way around since your Tablet is larger.
I'd give a try to a vnc, as it has already been suggested
Remote control the tablet from the phone.
This won't be a typical RDC setup. I love Jump desktop but it won't do this unless he sets up a RDC server.

By far the best in my experience is Teamviewer. A personal license is completely free with no ads, and it works great with both Windows 7 and 8. I do not own any Macs and I am not running Linux at the moment so I cannot speak for how well it works on those platforms, but I really recommend you give Teamviewer a try.
