I am having several major problems with my phone ever since I tried flashing some new stuff over the Skyraider 3.3 final ROM!! Everything was fine, except for the extremely excessive battery drain after I installed the ROM the first time. Then I flashed a splash zip and also the blue battery circle zip and last but not least the #5 kingxklick bfs kernal. Ever since then my phone has gone berserk. When I hold down my power button, not only does the screen for all of the options(hibernation, power down, reboot, etc..) not come up, it just goes straight to my bootanimation screen and it boots back up. Also, the excessive battery drain has gotten worse!! So, I booted back into recovery and did a restore. This seemed to stop the craziness of my phone, unfortunately it still just reboots when I hold the power button down and the excessive battery drain is still going on!!! Anyone have any suggestions? I'm afraid to do anything else because it seems that I have done enough for right now top screw it up!
Make sure you're not overclocking more than your phone can handle (if at all).
I'm running this same combo (SR 3.3/Kingxkernel BFS #5) and it's working quite well for me with good battery life.
If you choose to reinstall, do a complete wipe/cache wipe *twice* from the recovery menu before flashing.
First of all, Thank you very much!! I know this is a dumb question, but how do I check to see if I'm overclocking? I don't know how to do that, obviously. Ha.
that rom is dependant on radio, and HBoot being up to date. If you don't meet both, you will have problems. I had all sorts of issues with 3.3 when I installed it only to find you have to have s-off, 2.15 radio, and .79 Hboot. The reboot problem is more than likely the Hboot, anything below .79 frow what I understand will not support the new hibernation modes, which causes the reboot.

I was using the hibernation mode every night since it came out on .77 HBOOT with no issues. I only just now updated HBOOT cause I got bored and wanted the newest one lol.. But yeah, was I just lucky? :/
Sent from my Droid Incredible running SkyRaider 3.3.2 with King Kernel BFS #5.
Can't find an answer to this on google or xda. Didn't know if I should post this in General or Q&A.
I have been using my Incredible since it came out. I quickly learned about rooting, roms, s-off... with no problems. I have been running Skyraider almost from the beginning.
Here is the problem: A few days ago, I noticed on the SR thread that there were updates for the radio and hboot. So, I went ahead and flashed them. Almost immediately I started noticing the screen becoming unresponsive. After a minute or two I did a battery pull, rebooted, and again after a little while, freeze and reboot. I also noticed that even when the phone is awake but screen off, it would wake itself up. The rebooting and freezing makes it impossible to use my phone.
I tried everything I could think of:
Nandroid restore (obviously didn't work since this doesn't effect hboot or radio).
Reinstalled fresh SR Rom wiping everything, including dalvik, and did factory reset.
Finally, I downgraded back to the hboot and radio versions I had before, still no effect. (Baseband version 2.15.00.07.28, hboot .79 ).
I tried installing another ROM (Uncommon sense) to make sure it wasn't a ROM issue, ..same problem.
Please, any help would be much appreciated. I don't know what my next step should be.

No overclocking, I don't use setcpu, and I have been running the stock kernel. But it does feel like overclocking.
I wonder if the timing of events is just coincidence and its a hardware issue. I've had my Inc since June... rooted s -off in july and had no problems until about a month ago. I don't oc I use the new stock kernel but my phone hates change. Even flashing a small mod will cause rebooting.... and navigation always causes it. Phone heats up fast with these particular activities too but sometimes it will reboot at only 35c after a flash. I'm thinking hardware

Thanks,
You may be right.
For now things are working, let's hope they stay that way.
I've been using my desire for about 1 year now and never had any problems until I decided to go back to Leedroid gingerbread rom and install the patches for A2SD+ with ext 3.
I was having restarts every 10-15 minutes on Leedroid, went back to CM7, currently on cm7 7.0.2 and I'm still getting restarts when I wasn't previously.
I have asked this question before and thought it was an issue with the SD card. Now the reason I thought it was the SD was when I was having loops of restarts I would take it out and it would be quite stable for a while. Formatted everything (SD and internal + cache) put on the latest radio rom and then put on the latest CM. Seemed to run fine for a while and then started restarting again. It locks up on the HTC screen occasionally and requires me to pull the battery.
I've noticed that it only happens when I'm using 3G internet connectivity. Just recently it tried to get a lot of updates and would start downloading them only to restart. It does eventually get the updates though.
To test this I can start watching a youtube video and it will crash. For example I just watched 1 minute of one video before it crashed, after reboot I started youtube again and it crashed immediately.
Can I stop log cat removing all the logs when the device restarts so I can have a look what's going on? Any other ideas on how to diagnose or fix would be much appreciated.
What's your radio?
My Radio version is
32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 and I'm running CynogenMod 7.0.3
I used something else before I switched to leedroid an old one, I changed it to go to Leedroid then changed it to this hoping it would help.
Flashed newest correcspondig ril 2.2.1003G?

No I have never flashed a RIL before, didn't even know what these where. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

RIL (by System of a pWne!^)
Radio interface layer. This is a layer between the Radio and the ROM. It communicates with the hardware over the Radio and supplies an interface for the ROM so it can use the hardware. This is similar to a driver.
Whenever you flash a new Radio, you should also consider flashing the corresponding RIL for it. This makes sure, the Radio is getting adressed correctly.

I was running the RIL suggested above yesterday, had about 11 hours and no issues, updated all my apps, was watching youtube etc.. I was trying to do stuff that usually would make it crash. Eventually I turned on my wifi at home and as soon as it came on the phone rebooted. It then proceeded to reboot every time I tried to go on the internet, with either 3g or wifi, I tried about 3-4 times. Leaving it with internet off for about 30 mins, I came back to it and it started working on wifi fine. Strange. TL;DR ril didn't seem to fix it. Seems like if I can get it back to stock I can go to the shop and change it.
Hi,
i really need help. I have a HTC Desire and it is very unstable.
I tried several Roms but it stay unstable. Tried ROMS: "InsertCoin_GB_Sense2.1_CM7_1.1.3.zip", "AceSMod007_v13_3D-CM7.zip", "Cool3D-AceS-v4-bravo.zip".
Bevore flashing i always wiped completely.
Unstable means that the phone freezes from time to time and only removing the battery can recovery it from this state.
Freezing happens e.g: It Boots up normal, i can insert sim code, the start page is shown. When i do nothing and the screen saver (black screen) is activated i can not wake it up again.
It Freezes on incomming calls, mostly when in screen saver (black screen), sometimes also awakend.
It Freezes on incomming SMS.
And sometimes it freezes without any action, mostly in screen saver mode.

Is something defekt on my phone?
I really would like to get the phone stable. Is there a possibility to see what error happen bevore freezing? Should i try another image (i like images with sense so only sense images)? Perhaps original HTC one? Where can i get the latest original HTC image?
It would be very nice if someone can help me, i have no idea what i can do?
I am really frustrated.

Do you get fc or it just freezes on nearly everithing ?
Is ur SD card partitioned ?
Iv already tried all the roms u listed and didn't have this kind of problem

Are you overclocked? If you are, lower the value down a notch. Too high a value might sometimes cause system instability

Try a new SD card, or non-SENSE ROM
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
I have a partitioned SD Card. Fat32 + 1 GB ext4
I have not overclocked.
Freeze means that it hangs, it do not respond to any key press. The only way is to remove battery. When it freezes in screen safer, the on/off button did not work. It do not awaek. If it freeze with screen on, the picture on screen stays forever and no keypress helps.
I have now tried with alpharev stock hboot and a pre rooted original HTC Gingerbread from here:
[ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) [Optional Mods]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261&highlight=rooted
This seems to work rock solid, but without the shiny new things.
Any idea what might be the matter on all the other images for my htc desire?
I would like to use a custom, shiny rom, but than my desire begins to freeze.
Thanks
Kai
All the roms you mention has actually been overclocked by the developer, hence the freezes (i too have the exact problem, but that was due to me OCing to 1.2Ghz) which is why you have to install a CPU control app (cool's Roms have the daemon controller app you can use) and lower down the voltage a little to see if it helps (try 998mhz-1036mhz). Stock roms, being stock, will definitely not be overclocked, hence maybe that's why it runs well on your phone.

Ah ok, thanks for the explanation.
I used the InsertCoin with set CPU and lowered the OC, but had also sometime freezes.
Next time a flash a image i will give it a try.
For now i am satisfied with the pre rooted stock. I only have some trouble with apps memory. But it is very solid.
Thanks for your reply
Kai
I've got exactly the same problem and am pretty sure its my sd card (new one ordered) - I finally decided it was my sd card by removing it and used my phone for a couple of days and the phone didn't hang once and when I put the sd card back in the hangs came back! Got a 16 GB card for £15 delivered of Amazon.
Edit: Oct 12th - new sd card and screen/phone had froze again, don't know what the bloody problem is!
Ok,
so if i make a new try i will by a new sd and will set OC to 998.
But i think i will stay a while on this rootet gingerbread image.
Thanks
Kai
Try one of the stock non oc kernels... Sibere has made one, so have I.. See supernova site or thread..

Hi,

I would like to try the Cool3D-AceS-v4-bravo.zip. Can i use the non OC kernel you mentioned also for this or is it supernova image specific?

I believe as long as the kernel is a Sense based kernel, you can use it. However, with Cool3D AceS v4, I only heard people using tristian, snq or an old gingercakes (the latest is unstable with the Rom) kernel. But you can try.

Use daemon controller or the likes of it and set the maximum CPU freq to 998 Mhz to stop overclocking.

What about undervolting. Does that mean setting a certain minimum too? Which value?
hey man if you could get rid of sense than get yourself a aosp rom i had the same thing as you i guess i tested leedroid and it was slow and unstable at overclock now im using a redux 2 rom overclock to 1113 very fast and nice.By the way you could try to download a better kernel for these roms that may help too

why dont you try MIUI ROM. they are very stable, fast and have more customization. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957291
I like sense. I just don't want to push my phone by overclocking/undervolting.
I've got an identical problem, though i've ruled out the SD card, battery, and rom. It's doing my head in now.
Mine just sometimes refuses to wake up after being locked, it's never switched off or failed whilst using it, only when left alone.
I'm running Cyanogen nightlies. So it's Aosp and no overclocking at all. Recently tried the latest crop of Sense roms all the same symptoms. Might only happen twice a day but that's too much.
Would I gleam much from the logging programs? I assumed if it crashed it wouldn't of logged the problem, if you see what I mean..
Hi people!
My HTC Desire has a annoying problem, being that it reboots spontaneously.
Well, maybe not really spontaneously.
I believe that it reboots when I (should) receive a call or message, maybe also with push notifications, but that I don't know.
I tried but can't reproduce the problem by calling or texting myself with another phone. But I does happing when people call or text me, not always tho.
With 2G only of Wifi, I have not experienced the problem.
It began while being on MIUI (with a 3th latest radio or so/beta/nog directly after a update). Because MIUI began to irritate me with its speed and bug now and then, I wiped it all and flashed CM7.1 STABLE, incl latest radio, and installed my apps again.
Still reboots.
Flashed a way older radio. Still reboots.
Pretty important, it does NOT get hot.
Facts:
- 3G off, not experienced a problem
- when 3G off, sometimes no signal
- does not get hot
- different radio's, different roms
- slipt out of my hands and fell in a bath, got I out before it even hit the bottom. This happened two of three 2 days before the problems began
I read about HTC reboot problems on Vodafone NL a while ago.. I am on this network, but the posts are not recent..
I read about HTC Desire reboot problems while using the phone, after it's getting hot (2010 posts).
I did had reboots a few months earlier, but that was a bug on MIUI.
Anyone an idea what the problem is?
Make a complete backup and change rom. If problem persits, go back to stock. If desire still reboots, call HTC.

I was having reboot problems with LeeDroid. Installed Tristan202's kernel, fixed it right up.
Are you undervolting or overclocking? That can cause random reboots when the system can't distinguish the actual signals from the random noise and interference, wither because it's too fast (overclocked too high) or too weak (undervolted too low). Bump up the voltage and/or reduce the clock speed a little, and see if that helps.
I didn't do anything with the clockspeed or so. The max CPU frequency is adjustable in CM7, but left it on 998MHz. I'll try 1075 now?
The link to Leedroid is a froyo. But I like gingerbread. HTC even made a gingerbread rom (available on htc dev center).
And the phone had worked normally on gingerbread.
An other problem I had for a longer time.
Sometimes the phone only uploads and doesn't download (as I can see by watching the arrows). So I internet connection doesn't work then. Putting it on flightmode and back does solve the problem.
The tristan kernel:

I've got same problems. After rooting my HTC Desire and installing Revolution ROM, it has worked well for about 24h, then i was surprised with disappearing all my data (contacts, messages, settings, was needed to log in back to google, sync was off), so i set up everything again, after few hours of normal work, i noticed that i have to enter SIM card PIN code. ok, done. After few more hours SIM card PIN code again. So i reflashed with another custom ROM and phone started to reboot each time at SIM card pin code enter screen, or after finishing booting. Few minutes ago i tryed to reflash with another ROM, which i used to have few months ago and which was pretty stable (Reflex), and now im stuck at HTC boot logo

Use a RUU, make sure it's the right one for your phone or that you have a goldcard.
I would try Oxygen Rom, it happened to me in the past but it was fixed a bunch of releases back.
Hmm,. running on 1075Mhz now and no reboots since.. while being on 3G and receiving a few calls and (whatsapp) messages.
I don't want to bump into conclusions to fast, but at least it's remarkable.
Or my phone is dryed up.
(@random_factor?) IF the 1075Mhz setting is the solution, how is that possible??
And I just hit the trackball to enter my phone and tadaaaa: reboot
RUU Bravo flashed.. First flashed hboot stock. Still on alpharev bootloader and S-OFF, so if phones still reboots, I must not forget to flash the stock bootloader... hehe. I will post the results ofcourse of the stock rom ofcourse.
[EDIT]
Being on stock rom/radio, I just had another reboot. Guess it's safe to say it's a hardware problem..
1Ro try to install non-A2SD Rom. it'd worked for me.
Funkypotatoe, I've installed the RUU for my phone. So I'm on the original froyo with original radio, so no a2sd and I'm not using android's original apps2sd now.

yeah, call HTC and request a pickup, hopefully you'll get a Desire S
also make sure your bootloader is back to stock (did you flash the downgrader before you ran the RUU?) if you've just got everything stock after the RUU, apart from the bootloader (if you're still S-OFF), go to my guide and there's a section about still s-off after RUU, do the 2nd method since it's quicker and safer..... and if you're already S-ON just ignore everything I've said and call HTC
Yes I'm still S-OFF.
I've checked your guide: Nice work!
I in doubt of if I should send it to HTC, because of the water incident. There are little white strips in the phone and on the battery that turn red when in contact with water.
The strip on the battery is redish, just from wiping it with a 'wet' towel (there were here and there little drops of water). The visible strip in the phone is still white. Don't know if there are more strips inside the phone. I would suck if I send to phone for warranty, and get as a result: waterdamage, 35 euro research costs.
