Hi people!
My HTC Desire has a annoying problem, being that it reboots spontaneously.
Well, maybe not really spontaneously.
I believe that it reboots when I (should) receive a call or message, maybe also with push notifications, but that I don't know.
I tried but can't reproduce the problem by calling or texting myself with another phone. But I does happing when people call or text me, not always tho.
With 2G only of Wifi, I have not experienced the problem.
It began while being on MIUI (with a 3th latest radio or so/beta/nog directly after a update). Because MIUI began to irritate me with its speed and bug now and then, I wiped it all and flashed CM7.1 STABLE, incl latest radio, and installed my apps again.
Still reboots.
Flashed a way older radio. Still reboots.
Pretty important, it does NOT get hot.
Facts:
- 3G off, not experienced a problem
- when 3G off, sometimes no signal
- does not get hot
- different radio's, different roms
- slipt out of my hands and fell in a bath, got I out before it even hit the bottom. This happened two of three 2 days before the problems began
I read about HTC reboot problems on Vodafone NL a while ago.. I am on this network, but the posts are not recent..
I read about HTC Desire reboot problems while using the phone, after it's getting hot (2010 posts).
I did had reboots a few months earlier, but that was a bug on MIUI.
Anyone an idea what the problem is?
Make a complete backup and change rom. If problem persits, go back to stock. If desire still reboots, call HTC.

@OP Try a different ROM.. try both AOSP and Sense, if you still get the issue try return it to stock (RUU) and see if problem persists.. if it does then it's a hardware problem and call HTC.

I was having reboot problems with LeeDroid. Installed Tristan202's kernel, fixed it right up.
Are you undervolting or overclocking? That can cause random reboots when the system can't distinguish the actual signals from the random noise and interference, wither because it's too fast (overclocked too high) or too weak (undervolted too low). Bump up the voltage and/or reduce the clock speed a little, and see if that helps.
I didn't do anything with the clockspeed or so. The max CPU frequency is adjustable in CM7, but left it on 998MHz. I'll try 1075 now?
The link to Leedroid is a froyo. But I like gingerbread. HTC even made a gingerbread rom (available on htc dev center).
And the phone had worked normally on gingerbread.
An other problem I had for a longer time.
Sometimes the phone only uploads and doesn't download (as I can see by watching the arrows). So I internet connection doesn't work then. Putting it on flightmode and back does solve the problem.
The tristan kernel:

Which one do I need..?
Thanks folks for your help!

I've got same problems. After rooting my HTC Desire and installing Revolution ROM, it has worked well for about 24h, then i was surprised with disappearing all my data (contacts, messages, settings, was needed to log in back to google, sync was off), so i set up everything again, after few hours of normal work, i noticed that i have to enter SIM card PIN code. ok, done. After few more hours SIM card PIN code again. So i reflashed with another custom ROM and phone started to reboot each time at SIM card pin code enter screen, or after finishing booting. Few minutes ago i tryed to reflash with another ROM, which i used to have few months ago and which was pretty stable (Reflex), and now im stuck at HTC boot logo
HBOOT 0.93
Radio 5.11.05.27
Use a RUU, make sure it's the right one for your phone or that you have a goldcard.
I would try Oxygen Rom, it happened to me in the past but it was fixed a bunch of releases back.
Hmm,. running on 1075Mhz now and no reboots since.. while being on 3G and receiving a few calls and (whatsapp) messages.
I don't want to bump into conclusions to fast, but at least it's remarkable.
Or my phone is dryed up.
(@random_factor?) IF the 1075Mhz setting is the solution, how is that possible??
And I just hit the trackball to enter my phone and tadaaaa: reboot
RUU Bravo flashed.. First flashed hboot stock. Still on alpharev bootloader and S-OFF, so if phones still reboots, I must not forget to flash the stock bootloader... hehe. I will post the results ofcourse of the stock rom ofcourse.
[EDIT]
Being on stock rom/radio, I just had another reboot. Guess it's safe to say it's a hardware problem..
1Ro try to install non-A2SD Rom. it'd worked for me.
Funkypotatoe, I've installed the RUU for my phone. So I'm on the original froyo with original radio, so no a2sd and I'm not using android's original apps2sd now.

yeah, call HTC and request a pickup, hopefully you'll get a Desire S
also make sure your bootloader is back to stock (did you flash the downgrader before you ran the RUU?) if you've just got everything stock after the RUU, apart from the bootloader (if you're still S-OFF), go to my guide and there's a section about still s-off after RUU, do the 2nd method since it's quicker and safer..... and if you're already S-ON just ignore everything I've said and call HTC
Yes I'm still S-OFF.
I've checked your guide: Nice work!
I in doubt of if I should send it to HTC, because of the water incident. There are little white strips in the phone and on the battery that turn red when in contact with water.
The strip on the battery is redish, just from wiping it with a 'wet' towel (there were here and there little drops of water). The visible strip in the phone is still white. Don't know if there are more strips inside the phone. I would suck if I send to phone for warranty, and get as a result: waterdamage, 35 euro research costs.

Can't find an answer to this on google or xda. Didn't know if I should post this in General or Q&A.
I have been using my Incredible since it came out. I quickly learned about rooting, roms, s-off... with no problems. I have been running Skyraider almost from the beginning.
Here is the problem: A few days ago, I noticed on the SR thread that there were updates for the radio and hboot. So, I went ahead and flashed them. Almost immediately I started noticing the screen becoming unresponsive. After a minute or two I did a battery pull, rebooted, and again after a little while, freeze and reboot. I also noticed that even when the phone is awake but screen off, it would wake itself up. The rebooting and freezing makes it impossible to use my phone.
I tried everything I could think of:
Nandroid restore (obviously didn't work since this doesn't effect hboot or radio).
Reinstalled fresh SR Rom wiping everything, including dalvik, and did factory reset.
Finally, I downgraded back to the hboot and radio versions I had before, still no effect. (Baseband version 2.15.00.07.28, hboot .79 ).
I tried installing another ROM (Uncommon sense) to make sure it wasn't a ROM issue, ..same problem.
Please, any help would be much appreciated. I don't know what my next step should be.

No overclocking, I don't use setcpu, and I have been running the stock kernel. But it does feel like overclocking.
I wonder if the timing of events is just coincidence and its a hardware issue. I've had my Inc since June... rooted s -off in july and had no problems until about a month ago. I don't oc I use the new stock kernel but my phone hates change. Even flashing a small mod will cause rebooting.... and navigation always causes it. Phone heats up fast with these particular activities too but sometimes it will reboot at only 35c after a flash. I'm thinking hardware

Hey Frnds, Sorry if this was asked before but, i am so confused after reading so many problems and solutions too on here as well as on net....
I need a little help from you on my Desire Bootloop problem...
i have the problem since a few days.
first time i notice it,was when the desire was charghing and i used it a bit,it restarts again and again.so i put out the battery and wait a few minutes, than it works.
it´s also, when i use it a long time with Mpas, wifi etc the phone turns off and i have the boot loop.
but when i take out my sim,it works fine.
my question is,do i need a new sim or is it a hardware problem?
i wanna commit that i have unbranded (Purchased from Indian grey market b4 official launch of desire in INDIA) phone and i am unable to send it to HTC repair center.
i tried different ROM's available here on XDA but, same problem with all.....Is there any way to unroot the phone (may solve my problem)
Below are the details of my desire
Bravo PVTI SHIP S - ON
HBOOT - 0.08.0000
MICRO - 03id
TOUCH PANEL - SYNW0101
RADIO - 5.09.05.30_2

I am using CM7 now.
i also would like to add few observations of past 2 days...Might help you to find right way....
After reading so many threads on reboot issues of Froyo....i shut off my Mobile Internet (2G - Vodafone).Phone had never restarted (Once only in 2 days after a long phone call i.e. 20 Mins+)
i tried to on 2G 4-5 times to get my mails...All time immediately restarted...
so, my conclusion is because 2G net connection....
Please try to help me ..... Thanks Again
Someone please atleast try to give me some directions.....
Sadly bootloops are a part of all gingerbread roms at the moment, it's a fault in the code from Google.
The latest 2.3.3 builds are supposed to resolve this, though I don't know how long before CM will have this integrated.
The only things I can suggest -
a) reboot manually every day or two - chances of bootloop are worse the longer it runs
b) if you get a bootloop, hold power + vol down + trackpad and it will break the loop without having to pull out your battery.

That isn't necessarily true. I've no 1 bootloop and I have flash Gingerbread roms dozens of times. I find if you reflash the rom it usually boots up fine.
I haven't had bootloops either (using Redux), but in the ROM's thread, everybody who does solves the problem by flashing a new kernel (usually Coutts). I've never used CM, so I'm not really sure if it helps, but you could give it a try Btw, please be careful if the kernel you're applying does undervolting or overclocking, and make sure you're not flashing a FroYo kernel while using a Gingerbread system or vice-versa
Well, this sucks. Upgraded from the Hero to the Desire Z 1.5 weeks ago. Downgraded it, rooted it, tried out a few ROMs, settled on Virtuous Unity and all was happy.
I used the phone in the car this morning as a GPS, 3G data connection was working fine, etc. I had a couple of client meetings, after which I pulled out my phone to check for messages. I noticed there was no mobile signal at all. I figured it was building interference, so I went outside. Still nothing. Wifi was working fine, GPS was working fine. I enabled airplane mode, then disabled it again to see if that would kickstart things. Still no go.
I decided then to power cycle the phone to see if that would help. It went through the usual reboot cycle, displayed the lock screen, then the SIM unlock screen. Then no matter what I do or don't do, about 5 or 6 seconds later, the screen suddenly goes black and the phone reboots.
Now it just does the same thing over and over again. The phone boots up fine, displays the lock screen briefly, then the SIM unlock screen, then it crashes and reboots. Whether I unlock the SIM or not doesn't matter. Within 5 or 6 seconds, the phone will reboot. I can see notification icons popping up, so everything appears to be working fine otherwise.
I have not changed anything on the phone this morning: it was sitting in my pocket the entire time. Same ROM, same radio firmware. I restored last night's nandroid backup just in case, but it didn't help. I thought perhaps it was VU's built-in overclocking that wasn't agreeing with the phone, so I restored a MIUI-based backup. No go. I went all the way back to the stock (but rooted) Bell Desire Z image I took when I first got the phone. Still no go.
I've tried booting up without the SIM card, and without the SD card. Nothing works. I'm guessing the phone suddenly developed a hardware problem. It would be something that is triggered soon after the OS has successfully loaded. Maybe something to do with the 3G radio?
There are no obvious errors or kernel panic messages in logcat. Everything appears to be proceeding normally, until it just comes to a dead stop. Anyone have other suggestions I can try?
Search this forum for "boot loop" and you'll find some things to try.
Thanks, burtcom, but none of the threads I checked apply here. Other boot loop problems more often have to do with the phone rebooting while the boot animation is still playing. My phone successfully boots and is in the process of loading user apps when it crashes. Also, most reports come as a result of something attempting to root their phone and then installing a ROM. I've already made it past that stage. I am able to boot into CWM, do my nandroid backups and restores, etc. The ROMs have all been working fine up until some point this morning. The fact that several different ROMs now all have the same problem makes me suspect a hardware issue.
Moved my SIM and SD card back over to my Hero, and everything works fine there, so I strongly suspect some hardware just broke on the DZ this morning. I'll try flashing a new radio firmware, but I can't see how that would fix anything, since the old version was working just fine all along.
taob;15238893I'll try flashing a new radio firmware said:
Huh... so I flashed the latest Bell Canada 26.06.02.25_m2 radio.img, (up from my old 26.03.02.18_m3 firmware), and now the phone no longer crashes. I'm thinking maybe it isn't an issue with old vs new firmware, but that the old firmware was somehow corrupted during the course of the day. Re-flashing the original radio probably would have worked too, but now I have the latest one...
Hopefully this will help someone in the future with the same problem.

The phone no longer reboots, but I still had the problem of not picking up any signal whatsoever (voice or data), even though wifi and GPS work just fine. APN settings were verified to be correct. It turns out I had to go into Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network operators -> Search network and manually re-register my phone on TELUS. Bizarre.
I had the same problem, update your radio and flash this zip on the Unity Thread
"For people experiencing random phone Freezes, this is due to overclocking, it's solved by lowering max speed.
Just flash this patch over: (link is on the thread)"
That's a different kind of problem, sengalang. My phone was working just fine overclocked to 1.2 GHz for over a weeks, so why would it suddenly start crashing like this? Problems due to overclocking tend to result in reboots at random times, and not at 100% predictable times like my problem. I did also boot with the MIUI and stock DZ ROMs, which do not overclock... same problem. Thus the root cause was not CPU speed.
Hi there,
I'm coming here, because I cannot find the answer to my questions, and you guys can always help
I'm using custom ROM on my Desire, LeeDroid HD V3.3.3 GB R5. Everything is superb, except one little thing. Whenever I switch on WiFi, 3G or GPS it reboots after a while. And it always goes into bootloop, so I have to take the battery out. It only happens when phone is working hard - it's getting hot, that's what i've noticed too. I thought it might be the temperature, so i downclocked the CPU to 900 MHz, but it didn't worked either.
Kernel ver: 2.6.35.10 -g3f43272
If u need any other info, just write it down here.
Any ideas how can i work it out? I don't wanna change ROM, but i need GPS sometimes (that's when it reboots most often...)
newly installed ROM
I've reinstalled ROM. Now it only reboots in gps nav. Any clues? Btw. when revolting, it does not go in to bootloop.

Im having exactly the same problems, though currently my Desire is still running it's original unrooted Froyo OS.
Whenever the phone puts any load on 3G, GPS or the cpu it shuts down and gets stuck in a reboot loop.

Hey guys, its my first post on here and I was hoping to get some help with my device. (Yes, I've searched extensively over the internets. No, I can't find anything related to this issue for the One X)
So let me start from scratch. About a month or so ago, my phone started rebooting randomly, I have been using ViperX 2.7.1 by Team Venom since day one of getting my phone and only started experiencing these issues after upgrading my hboot to 1.31, switching to MaXimus and returning back to ViperX. If it was the occasional reboot, I wouldn't be half as annoyed as I am this very moment. Unfortunately, my phone does not ring when I get a call. Does not ring, screen doesn't even turn on, does not notify, nothing. I called it from another number, did not ring, tried turning the screen on, did not turn on, just rebooted. This does not happen all the time, but has been happening a lot recently. So far, I have fresh installed ViperX numerous times, (wiped cache, factory reset, wiped dalvik cache and full wiped from the ViperX aroma installer) thought maybe an app was misbehaving so fresh installed from the play store instead of Titanium Backup. Even tried switching ROMS but I can't for some reason. Tried installing CM10 the other day, didn't go past the white screen. The good people on androidforums.com told me that I need a different boot.img for newer hboots so I got that, but the CM ring at startup freezes followed by a reboot. Switched to ViperX 3.2 (JB) couple days back hoping this issue wouldn't follow me here as well, but alas, it still has. Then yesterday, I thought upgrading my hboot and wiping my phone the way up'ing the firmware does might fix it, so I up'ed my hboot to 1.39. (strangely though, I still have my files on my sdcard) I followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1920060 Only step I couldn't follow was the adb reboot oem-78, I got some strange error (did not happen when I up'ed to 1.31) After getting 1.39, I flashed ViperX 3.2 again but I still have this error.
I'm completely out of ideas and am really close to giving up and selling my phone. Any help/advice on what I could do would be greatly appreciated!

Woah, no way. Is that it? It worked perfectly fine before I up'ed my hboot to 1.31 (always used the AOSP lockscreen). Have you encountered a similar issue? I'm trying this out now, will keep you posted.
