I've been using my desire for about 1 year now and never had any problems until I decided to go back to Leedroid gingerbread rom and install the patches for A2SD+ with ext 3.
I was having restarts every 10-15 minutes on Leedroid, went back to CM7, currently on cm7 7.0.2 and I'm still getting restarts when I wasn't previously.
I have asked this question before and thought it was an issue with the SD card. Now the reason I thought it was the SD was when I was having loops of restarts I would take it out and it would be quite stable for a while. Formatted everything (SD and internal + cache) put on the latest radio rom and then put on the latest CM. Seemed to run fine for a while and then started restarting again. It locks up on the HTC screen occasionally and requires me to pull the battery.
I've noticed that it only happens when I'm using 3G internet connectivity. Just recently it tried to get a lot of updates and would start downloading them only to restart. It does eventually get the updates though.
To test this I can start watching a youtube video and it will crash. For example I just watched 1 minute of one video before it crashed, after reboot I started youtube again and it crashed immediately.
Can I stop log cat removing all the logs when the device restarts so I can have a look what's going on? Any other ideas on how to diagnose or fix would be much appreciated.
What's your radio?
My Radio version is
32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 and I'm running CynogenMod 7.0.3
I used something else before I switched to leedroid an old one, I changed it to go to Leedroid then changed it to this hoping it would help.
Flashed newest correcspondig ril 2.2.1003G?
Thread for radio/ril here on xda:

No I have never flashed a RIL before, didn't even know what these where. I'll give that a shot and see what happens.

RIL (by System of a pWne!^)
Radio interface layer. This is a layer between the Radio and the ROM. It communicates with the hardware over the Radio and supplies an interface for the ROM so it can use the hardware. This is similar to a driver.
Whenever you flash a new Radio, you should also consider flashing the corresponding RIL for it. This makes sure, the Radio is getting adressed correctly.

I was running the RIL suggested above yesterday, had about 11 hours and no issues, updated all my apps, was watching youtube etc.. I was trying to do stuff that usually would make it crash. Eventually I turned on my wifi at home and as soon as it came on the phone rebooted. It then proceeded to reboot every time I tried to go on the internet, with either 3g or wifi, I tried about 3-4 times. Leaving it with internet off for about 30 mins, I came back to it and it started working on wifi fine. Strange. TL;DR ril didn't seem to fix it. Seems like if I can get it back to stock I can go to the shop and change it.

Hello all.
I hope this is in the right section. I have tried looking here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896213&page=447
For any answers, but at over 400 pages it's taking a while!!
I rooted via unrevocked the other day, and flashed Redux. I quite like it but am having the following issues:
WiFi, works fine at home, picked up the signal and signed in easy as. At work however it can't detect anything. On the stock 2.2 it was fine. This is a magor as 3g here is pretty slow. If I can't get WiFi working properly I'm going to have to look for another ROM.
Sound settings in menu. FC's every time.
Camera, may not be an issue as such, but does anyone know how to disable the camera sound? It's incredibly loud and annoying.
Cheers for your help, and if this is in the wrong place please point me to the right one!
Oh just point out what I have or have not done to try and fix this:
I have restarted WiFi router. No change. It was working fine until I flashed Redux.
Works fine at home, and can detect the neighbours WiFi.
I have flashed latest radio ROM 5.17.05.23
I have reflashed Redux. But did not to another complete wipe.
Have tried rebooting and hard reset (remove battery)
Fixed the sound menu issue with a full wipe and reset.
WiFi still not picking up at work. Have flashed a new Kernel 2.6.35.8 manu 1.4
Will see if that chnages anything
For me the screen flickers when I use Android Market and scroll up and down!
Very annoying!
Ok new kernel changed nothing.
Did full wipe are reflash. No change.
Flashed Leedroid 2.2 ROM. WiFi at work instantly working fine.
So flashed Oxygen 2.3 ROM. No WiFi at work.
There is something in those 2 GB ROMs that stops my Desire seeing my works WiFi net work. Any ideas??
I would try to flash radio:
http://www.mofirouz.com/ahp/?file=htcdesire/radios/32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23.zip
I hope you know how to do this. No warrany for any damage.
Cheers for the reply.
I have that radio already.
It seems it is a very common issue in 2.3 and is to do with hidden SSID on the WiFi.
Not sure why it affects 2.3 and not 2.2 but lots are complaining about it.
Will have to find out the SSID to connect
I seemed to have cured my SSID issue
http://www.appbrain.com/app/wigle-wifi-wardriving/net.wigle.wigleandroid
Got me straight in. Once I had connected, reconnecting works fine. I even uninstalled the app to check and it's sweet as
Well, this sucks. Upgraded from the Hero to the Desire Z 1.5 weeks ago. Downgraded it, rooted it, tried out a few ROMs, settled on Virtuous Unity and all was happy.
I used the phone in the car this morning as a GPS, 3G data connection was working fine, etc. I had a couple of client meetings, after which I pulled out my phone to check for messages. I noticed there was no mobile signal at all. I figured it was building interference, so I went outside. Still nothing. Wifi was working fine, GPS was working fine. I enabled airplane mode, then disabled it again to see if that would kickstart things. Still no go.
I decided then to power cycle the phone to see if that would help. It went through the usual reboot cycle, displayed the lock screen, then the SIM unlock screen. Then no matter what I do or don't do, about 5 or 6 seconds later, the screen suddenly goes black and the phone reboots.
Now it just does the same thing over and over again. The phone boots up fine, displays the lock screen briefly, then the SIM unlock screen, then it crashes and reboots. Whether I unlock the SIM or not doesn't matter. Within 5 or 6 seconds, the phone will reboot. I can see notification icons popping up, so everything appears to be working fine otherwise.
I have not changed anything on the phone this morning: it was sitting in my pocket the entire time. Same ROM, same radio firmware. I restored last night's nandroid backup just in case, but it didn't help. I thought perhaps it was VU's built-in overclocking that wasn't agreeing with the phone, so I restored a MIUI-based backup. No go. I went all the way back to the stock (but rooted) Bell Desire Z image I took when I first got the phone. Still no go.
I've tried booting up without the SIM card, and without the SD card. Nothing works. I'm guessing the phone suddenly developed a hardware problem. It would be something that is triggered soon after the OS has successfully loaded. Maybe something to do with the 3G radio?
There are no obvious errors or kernel panic messages in logcat. Everything appears to be proceeding normally, until it just comes to a dead stop. Anyone have other suggestions I can try?
Search this forum for "boot loop" and you'll find some things to try.
Thanks, burtcom, but none of the threads I checked apply here. Other boot loop problems more often have to do with the phone rebooting while the boot animation is still playing. My phone successfully boots and is in the process of loading user apps when it crashes. Also, most reports come as a result of something attempting to root their phone and then installing a ROM. I've already made it past that stage. I am able to boot into CWM, do my nandroid backups and restores, etc. The ROMs have all been working fine up until some point this morning. The fact that several different ROMs now all have the same problem makes me suspect a hardware issue.
Moved my SIM and SD card back over to my Hero, and everything works fine there, so I strongly suspect some hardware just broke on the DZ this morning. I'll try flashing a new radio firmware, but I can't see how that would fix anything, since the old version was working just fine all along.

Huh... so I flashed the latest Bell Canada 26.06.02.25_m2 radio.img, (up from my old 26.03.02.18_m3 firmware), and now the phone no longer crashes. I'm thinking maybe it isn't an issue with old vs new firmware, but that the old firmware was somehow corrupted during the course of the day. Re-flashing the original radio probably would have worked too, but now I have the latest one...
Hopefully this will help someone in the future with the same problem.

The phone no longer reboots, but I still had the problem of not picking up any signal whatsoever (voice or data), even though wifi and GPS work just fine. APN settings were verified to be correct. It turns out I had to go into Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Mobile networks -> Network operators -> Search network and manually re-register my phone on TELUS. Bizarre.
I had the same problem, update your radio and flash this zip on the Unity Thread
"For people experiencing random phone Freezes, this is due to overclocking, it's solved by lowering max speed.
Just flash this patch over: (link is on the thread)"
That's a different kind of problem, sengalang. My phone was working just fine overclocked to 1.2 GHz for over a weeks, so why would it suddenly start crashing like this? Problems due to overclocking tend to result in reboots at random times, and not at 100% predictable times like my problem. I did also boot with the MIUI and stock DZ ROMs, which do not overclock... same problem. Thus the root cause was not CPU speed.
I have massive problems using WiFi.
If I activate it, the phone spontanously "crashes", means it reacts extremely slow and is totally unusable till restarted.
It's always when WiFi is on, just the time till it starts differs. I've tried some different ROMs (MIUI with LordMods kernel or stock kernel with vanilla ROM-settings and no apps, CM7.1 stable with stock kernel) and also different WiFis and settings and can say it's independent from an established connection, so it also occurs when there is nothing in sight to connect to.
I can't remember since when I got this problem as I only recently activated WiFi again for usage. Before I never had such problems. I accidentally flashed a zip file as a radio some time ago o) and then flashed the right radio again after I got the battery out for some time. Possible the phone got damaged somehow or is there a possibility that it's a software related issue like a module that doesn't work well with more recent radios in combination with my phone?
I tried radios 12.59.60.26_26.11.04.21_M and 12.62.60.27_26.13.04.19_M, same problem.
Thanks
See if the official software works, try to install a 1.32 RUU.
Hi people!
My HTC Desire has a annoying problem, being that it reboots spontaneously.
Well, maybe not really spontaneously.
I believe that it reboots when I (should) receive a call or message, maybe also with push notifications, but that I don't know.
I tried but can't reproduce the problem by calling or texting myself with another phone. But I does happing when people call or text me, not always tho.
With 2G only of Wifi, I have not experienced the problem.
It began while being on MIUI (with a 3th latest radio or so/beta/nog directly after a update). Because MIUI began to irritate me with its speed and bug now and then, I wiped it all and flashed CM7.1 STABLE, incl latest radio, and installed my apps again.
Still reboots.
Flashed a way older radio. Still reboots.
Pretty important, it does NOT get hot.
Facts:
- 3G off, not experienced a problem
- when 3G off, sometimes no signal
- does not get hot
- different radio's, different roms
- slipt out of my hands and fell in a bath, got I out before it even hit the bottom. This happened two of three 2 days before the problems began
I read about HTC reboot problems on Vodafone NL a while ago.. I am on this network, but the posts are not recent..
I read about HTC Desire reboot problems while using the phone, after it's getting hot (2010 posts).
I did had reboots a few months earlier, but that was a bug on MIUI.
Anyone an idea what the problem is?
Make a complete backup and change rom. If problem persits, go back to stock. If desire still reboots, call HTC.

@OP Try a different ROM.. try both AOSP and Sense, if you still get the issue try return it to stock (RUU) and see if problem persists.. if it does then it's a hardware problem and call HTC.
Change rom

I was having reboot problems with LeeDroid. Installed Tristan202's kernel, fixed it right up.
Are you undervolting or overclocking? That can cause random reboots when the system can't distinguish the actual signals from the random noise and interference, wither because it's too fast (overclocked too high) or too weak (undervolted too low). Bump up the voltage and/or reduce the clock speed a little, and see if that helps.
I didn't do anything with the clockspeed or so. The max CPU frequency is adjustable in CM7, but left it on 998MHz. I'll try 1075 now?
The link to Leedroid is a froyo. But I like gingerbread. HTC even made a gingerbread rom (available on htc dev center).
And the phone had worked normally on gingerbread.
An other problem I had for a longer time.
Sometimes the phone only uploads and doesn't download (as I can see by watching the arrows). So I internet connection doesn't work then. Putting it on flightmode and back does solve the problem.
The tristan kernel:

I've got same problems. After rooting my HTC Desire and installing Revolution ROM, it has worked well for about 24h, then i was surprised with disappearing all my data (contacts, messages, settings, was needed to log in back to google, sync was off), so i set up everything again, after few hours of normal work, i noticed that i have to enter SIM card PIN code. ok, done. After few more hours SIM card PIN code again. So i reflashed with another custom ROM and phone started to reboot each time at SIM card pin code enter screen, or after finishing booting. Few minutes ago i tryed to reflash with another ROM, which i used to have few months ago and which was pretty stable (Reflex), and now im stuck at HTC boot logo
HBOOT 0.93

Use a RUU, make sure it's the right one for your phone or that you have a goldcard.
I would try Oxygen Rom, it happened to me in the past but it was fixed a bunch of releases back.
Hmm,. running on 1075Mhz now and no reboots since.. while being on 3G and receiving a few calls and (whatsapp) messages.
I don't want to bump into conclusions to fast, but at least it's remarkable.
Or my phone is dryed up.
(@random_factor?) IF the 1075Mhz setting is the solution, how is that possible??
And I just hit the trackball to enter my phone and tadaaaa: reboot
RUU Bravo flashed.. First flashed hboot stock. Still on alpharev bootloader and S-OFF, so if phones still reboots, I must not forget to flash the stock bootloader... hehe. I will post the results ofcourse of the stock rom ofcourse.
[EDIT]
Being on stock rom/radio, I just had another reboot. Guess it's safe to say it's a hardware problem..
1Ro try to install non-A2SD Rom. it'd worked for me.
Funkypotatoe, I've installed the RUU for my phone. So I'm on the original froyo with original radio, so no a2sd and I'm not using android's original apps2sd now.

yeah, call HTC and request a pickup, hopefully you'll get a Desire S
also make sure your bootloader is back to stock (did you flash the downgrader before you ran the RUU?) if you've just got everything stock after the RUU, apart from the bootloader (if you're still S-OFF), go to my guide and there's a section about still s-off after RUU, do the 2nd method since it's quicker and safer..... and if you're already S-ON just ignore everything I've said and call HTC
Yes I'm still S-OFF.
I've checked your guide: Nice work!
I in doubt of if I should send it to HTC, because of the water incident. There are little white strips in the phone and on the battery that turn red when in contact with water.
The strip on the battery is redish, just from wiping it with a 'wet' towel (there were here and there little drops of water). The visible strip in the phone is still white. Don't know if there are more strips inside the phone. I would suck if I send to phone for warranty, and get as a result: waterdamage, 35 euro research costs.
Hi,
So yesterday i was walking the dog listening to some music when my phone just died. I booted it back up again, listened some more and it died again. When this happened i was running version 1.2.0 of said mod, so i decided to try the latest.
Seems like i have this issue there aswell Everytime my phone goes into lock it shuts down. Anyone have an idea what can cause this? my phone is almost a year and a half.
Update: Removed my memorycard and no problems so far, will try to format it and let you know.
Update 2: Formatted SD-card, seems to be working again now.
Update 3: Nope, its back again. Any ideas?
Thanks to everyone for any help on this
Juji
Try installing the test version of 1.4 and do a full wipe before that.
You should also try and flash any other ROM (maybe even stock) to make sure it's a ROM issue and not some HW fault on your phone.
Do we have any chance to have a 2wcr kernel for this great ROM?
I have the same 1-2 times per day after calling with
Virtuous Quattro RC3
so maybe a bug in ICS ?
Have been running without any force shutdowns for over 24hours now, so it might have been temporary for me atleast.
I got no problems so far with ICS on DHD, flashing from 1.2.0 to 1.4.0 without full wipe. I think different phones get different issus with same ROM. Maybe the installed apps are a reason for that.
I had that bug, but I was running Gingerbread at the time. The problem worked itself out, around the same time I upgraded the SD card. That might be a cause, maybe re-seat the sd card? Might be loose or something along those lines.
I'm running 1.5.0 and mine keeps saying no network and keeps rebooting itself????
