Hello .Should i root my arc S or not? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone.i ma new to this forum and kinda a noob on rooting my arc S.
So i am wondering should i root my phone or not i have it for like 1month now and i have ICS installed .587 but sometimes it lags and so on.Now i am in a dilemma.
There are some apps that i would like to on arc S like WALKMAN and Album from the Xperia S but as much as i understood i need to be rooted. Also i would like to have JB since it doesn't lag as ICS with working camera and everything(if there is such ROM?).
So i would like to hear what others think

First of why do you shout?
Second i wanted to hear from others what they think.Would you rather root or not.

Most prominent reason I rooted my device was to install Link2sd.
Cause you see, internal memory of arc is too low to install hundreds of apps.
Link2sd links applications to sd card freeing internal memory.
Apart from that I find no reason whatsoever to root.I'm pretty happy with stock Rom.
Rooting also give you authority to overclock your device.if you want to make it faster.which by the way will decrease battery life.
When and if JB is released by Sony you can use SEUS and update to that.of course you can even try some other awesome Rom like Cyanogenmod 10. Which I'm pretty sure will release JB before Sony : )
But installing cyanogenmod will require your phone to be rooted.

Because I hate these kind of posts, I don't understand the mentality of joining a Developer forum and asking if you should do what is ultimately required to do most modifications to your Phone. And I've given you my opinion, it's up to you.

i don't know whether i should root my phone because i am afraid of bricking it, but there are too much limitations with unrooted phone.
It's really up to you, it isn't that risky if you have enough knowledge to do everything exactly according to the guides.

No offense, but you need a little knowledge to root and flash a custom rom. This isn't meant for the average user. It feels like everyone who gets an android phone nowadays (as it's becoming a more popular OS) want's to root and flash a custom rom as soon as they have in their hands without even knowing what it really means. The information to do all this is available here on this forum in form of guides which in most of the cases are quite extensive. If you want to root and flash a custom rom etc, you will have to do some reading on your own.
AFAIK this forum isn't here to hold the hands of android virgins as they try modify their phones without even knowing what a command prompt is. Almost every day someone new wants step by step instructions for this and for that even though there are good instructions out there. This forum is meant for people with some experience and knowledge that want to get the most out of our phones. New members are ofcourse welcome, but please, do some studying on your own too.
I was so scared to root my first phone last week. I sat for three hours reading guides over and over again to make sure I new what I was doing and I havent regretted doing it.
Too often I come across threads like this, if your not sure then you probably don't need to root, yet! If you decide to root read the stickies in the development thread, and don't say you havent got time to read a 100 page thread it'll be a lot quicker than fixing your DHD when it's buggered up
Hi ghostofcain

I DIDN'T need to downgrade first and simply followed the video on the bottom of this page.
(Youtube version)
I then simply installed CM7 rom via Rom Manager.
(I am rarely sick but I had been quite ill and in a lot of pain for a few days which was a shock to the system, and when I did get better, I had the mindset that nothing matters at all.) It's not easy for most folk to feel that way. Life is a game. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
Unless you are unhappy or bored with Sense or the performance of your phone - there isn't too much reason to root in my opinion.

Thanks very much.
There's a lot of changes and benefits if you root your phone and install a custom ROM... First, there are a lot of custom ROMs, for any taste. MIUI imitate the iOS system, with the liberty of Android OS, for example, and RevoHD leave the original SENSE ROM, with improvements of course.
Then, custom ROMs have some interesting tweaks, like zipalign, the ads removing and a better management of the RAM.
To finish, I did it myself (running the MIUI ROM by Rey) and I have no regrets. After reading a few tutorials it was easy as ABC !
Like it was said before It's up to you, I dont intend to convince anyone, but If you wanna do it, go doing some searches. This forum has some tutorials, and anyone, even a noob can understand them.

[q] good questions!

hi,
why the Galaxy W is considered a Low device?
worth buying it? worth it?
and it is HDPI ou MDPI?
thanks
the wonder is wonderful its one of the fastest phones out there and its only single cored (i think) and that makes it small and fast. its app compatability is great. nearly all the apps that arnt compatible are only root apps and stuff as theyr'e availible for moto droid razar for example. its screen size is ok (unlike the ace/young or whatever. those phones have small (less then average sized screens) which is the reason why those phones have very little app compatiblity. its ram...not what the specs say but it does the job i guess...(one thing worth mentioning is that some games push the phone too hard making it crash sometimes) im not sure if its hdpi (or whatever it is) or mdpi. finaly...the advanced stuff. our phone..isnt..that..known...so realy customisation is hard at times as noone (but 5 people maybe) make roms for our phone so at least you dont have to pick what one you want that hardly...we do have cm9 (alpha currently) which is the best rom on all phones. it is prone to soft bricks and can be fixed easily without the help of samsung. memory is reasonable...ly low for someone like me (an sd card dont help me) but its ok if you DONT update samsung apps. (one sec i have nearly a whole phone full of free space. i update samsung apps and i have no more memory) root isnt realy needed for our phone as we cant do a thing (app compatibility) if theres a root app up there theres usualy a risk of brick as everythings experimental. (things like the s i will get root for things like chainfire) thats all i can think of right now (its midnight where i am so i cant think right):beer: our phone is like a mini galaxy s but smaller in lamest terms. if you cant afford an s get a w. its worth it for many reasons.

thank you for the answer! was very useful!

It's all about point of views.
Galaxy W is like a Galaxy S II being "minimized". So you can say that it is a mid-end phone that has the closest relationship with high end phone.
Regarding from specs and prices, it's pretty nice, though, if you want cheaper mid-end phones which specs almost the same as Wonder, you can look for Ace Plus (the difference is about US $50 )
But again, with US $50 differences , Galaxy W offers better GPU and RAM.
Android is all about the ROM. Simply to say, if you don't root it, it's limited in performance (Samsung's stock roms tend to have worse memory management compared to stock roms)
Galaxy W can play pretty much HD games (with a little lag / without lag once you can solve some memory management issues)
again.. if you want to buy it.. root it
im not afraid to root i have a galaxy ace rooted.
worth change the galaxy ace to galaxy w?
root all you want but...it might not be worth it on our phone apart for customisation. as i said. most root apps are for the well known phones...our phone isnt one.

Strongly agree!!! If iOS is an adult, android is just like a child. There is nothing much for an adult to change and perform much better, BUT a child can learn whatever u give!!!
SGW has good CPU and RAM given. The only drawback is the material built. Its framework is made of plastics (very light) BUT the screen material is GORILLA GLASS (for some region not ALL). Use it with care and it will be a great and cheap phone.

My friend gmaster....
you will need to explain what you mean by that statement??
Of course rooting us the secret to unlocking the full potential of any phone/device...
all custom ROMs are rooted anyway, by default, so there is no option there, but rooting Stock ROMs also allows system write access and de-bloat, better memory management, V6 Turbo Charger recommended, installation of loads if "root-only" Apps, useful Apps, whether for general device management, like Better Battery Stats, or swap internal/external SD for gamers, etc.
Serious Android users need root, simples!!

LOL~ That's true. We won't meter anyone by number of posts but how helpful were the responses and how much work one had done for this community.
Quality is more important than Quantity.
After reviewing what gmaster1 said again, those are his personal experience rather than facts. I guess he was trying to say our SGW is too new to have most of the useful apps for rooted phone due to compatibility issues instead of "not available" for our phone. However, acro68, cowithgun, Rio, KP... and more xda-developers here have explored many ways to get our SGW better. It is only a 6 months baby now. Give it and give us some times.

I have no major compatibility issues at all, to be true only this one. I am very happy with SGW. I very carefully choose it, I love its form factor, its materials, display size and dpi, its power and responsiveness. I want phone which I can steer by just one hand for a long time without any issues from the heat a heaviness. It is like small grey mouse, nothing fancy at all, but for me it is hidden hero and I love small and cleverly crafted things.

I'm sure the porting and creation of many things is about to be under way. I've already started ripping apart the framework files for theming, and I'm already working on a new boot animation for my phone. Gotta use android commander to inject the files atm, but at least I can play now.

Should be very easy to port MIUI on Ion, so...

No Development

This forum seems kinda dead now...once the Ion came out this forum thrived for a bit. Sadly no roms or themes
We have CM9 though, which is good news. Though sadly only a handful of us here can actually install it.

Why? Its just disappointing to see that a phone with great potential have rarely any development. I understand that we do have devs here (thanks to all for CWM and other mods and such) but its still disappointing.
I'm hoping that when the Xperia T comes out in more regions that Sony will let us unlock the bootloader (though I'm not holding my breath). Once unlocked I'm pretty sure that things will pick up a lot. Kind of sucks that such a good phone is happered by something so stupid.

Yeah, once we are able to unlock our bootloaders things should definitely pick up. Hope that MIUI develops for the LT28 soon aswell. This lack of customization is killing me.
I guess that's what you guys get for being early adopters and hoping a dev community will spring up. If you want a phone for custom roms and other things you should wait till you are sure there will be developers for the device.
Complaining that there isn't dev for a device you already bought knowing at the time there was not much development is pretty dumb if you ask me.
I for one get a device because I like it as it is. If there is further development for the device after I get it great but that's just a bonus.
Just like buying a phone in hopes of an update is not a wise decision, buying a device hoping their will be development isn't any better.
You also have to remember the.ion wasn't a flagship device or one that was pushed very hard so there would obviously be less interest for the major developers to work on it.

I like the phone aswell, but coming for an Arc with an unlocked bootloader i just miss the customization you know? We can only hope that the ion will get dev attention eventually.

Thing to remember also is the ion is very much the same as the Xperia S with a few small differences so mods for the S shouldn't be too hard to convert to the ion.

Also rather than complain you cam take actionand learn yourself. Android is one of the most open source project since html. There are lots of resources available to learn and I know this because I for one have noticed the lack of developments so I decided to learn.
Also begging for development doesn't help the cause. If you would like resources to learn start with developing simple apps and expand.

But without CM9/10, you cannot port Miui.
Now, that Cm9 is out for ION, we can try and port it.
I will give it a try.
Proudly announce that there's a Vietnamese person has released an Rom Cooked name X-Ion Kudo v1 on local forum. Let's search and try
Just checked it out, nothing special. Just a stock rom with various tweaks that i could do myself. I'm really hoping for MIUI to develop for the ion
I have already tried porting MIUI. But I could not go beyond the MIUI Logo.
Since I am on CM9, it is easier for me to keep testing. Hope to get it right soon.:fingers-crossed:

I think one reason why this phone is lacking devs is that there are too meany of these xperia phones out that are all pretty much the same and with the prices being the same as well. I bought my wife the lt28h due to it having support for what t-mobile calls "4g". With these devices dev will come easier from ports of other similar phones. It is only a matter of time. We the owners of these ION phones have but only three choices 1. Learn to dev 2. sell phone buy one with heavy dev teams 3. Wait for developments. I for one would be happiest with a fully working ics/miui or a ics/ASOP. But I am pretty happy with just the stock rom for now.
We have now CM9, CM 10 and MIUI. Not so bad for a phone that has a locked bootloader in the U.S. and has begun selling in Europe at the same time as the Xperia T.
According to this, aokp Jelly Bean is on the way for unlocked bootloader.

I'm hoping we get a few more stock kernel roms too. Unless we figure out bl unlock someday. But overall, I'm pretty happy with current state.

Response Below So that I could Help you For every steps for your moments for sure!!!
1.For unlocking bootloader!!
2.For Rooting Device!!!
3.For Resolving Bootloop!!!
4.For Accessing good quality ROM & Kernel!!!
I ll surely help you with all the problem
With posting via screenshot for easier guidance
:highfive:
There are already guides available for items 1 - 3.
Item 4 is not necessary since you got a whole forum devoted to Android development. Besides the point is not to tell people which ROM is the best, let them try it out for themselves since each ROM has its pros and cons. It's up to the end user to determine the ROM - kernel combination that works best for him/her.

All user use Super Jelly Beans 6
Its got cool toggles and almost quite interesting room ever found!!

Sorry, this is everyone's opinion on Best ROM.

There are plenty of guides out there that give the health warnings before people mess with their phones.
If you want to be popular and be a great help, answer people's questions at Q&A rather than set up a redundant Q&A thread posting guides that are already available.
If you really want to make "The Best ROM", sitting here and telling the whole world you will do it is not going to help.
Rather, you should just start on your work and let people see the results.
