Wheatley Governor - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody run the wheatley governor on there epics? When your charging your phone does it deep sleep? I noticed while I was charging that my epic deep sleeped while it was charging. I never seen that before that's why I'm asking...
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

I'm guessing your on cm10... that's a known "issue" it states it in the OP. Although on the gnex that is perfectly normal im told. I'm guessing something about the 3.x kernel that does it?
Sent From My Toro+ via White Tapatalk

Nah no cm10, touchwiz fc09 with samurai kernel.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

I had pretty much the opposite problem that your having. I used to use the governor and my phone wouldn't ever go to deep sleep. Ever since then I've been using shadow and haven't had any problems. So maybe the simplest solution would be to switch kernels? Or even simpler, change governors?

Didn't get deep sleep because the cfq I/O is messed up.
Sent From My Toro+ via White Tapatalk

Its not really a problem. I just noticed my battery was lasting way longer when the phone charges while in deep sleep. I use system panel to monitor cpu usage as well as cpu spy. My setup is crispy clean 2.61 rom, I don't shut any syncs off. I just been running it with the normal samurai governor and decided to experiment with diff governors. In a normal day for me my epic would be at 25-30% battery level. With the phone deep sleeping and charging, on a normal day my epic is now at 50-60% battery. If anybody has the time maybe they can try the same setup and let me know if it does the same for them.

That seems like a good thing lol. I may try it. I'm gonna flash samurai now. I'm using thunderhawk tho. Ill try both.
And how do u know if it goes to deep sleep when its charging? With cpu spy right?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app

cpu spy gives you the % of cpu use, system panel gives you a graph.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

Yeah CPU spy should tell you if the "deep sleep" frequency is used.

I been testing it for two days and it seems like my phone still acts normal. It doesn't go to deep sleep when charging. And when I'm using wheatly it keeps my phone on 800 (the highest I have active).

Cpu scaling question

Will there be any problems with my phone if I have max cpu speed at 800 or lower?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
No. Just don't expect enough of a battery gain for it to be worth it.
Texted while driving
I use my phone in a very hot environment so I just want it to stay cool.
How much will under scaling effect heat produced?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
The term is underclocking. It might help, but CPU temperatures vary with each phone, the best bet would be to just give it a try.

If you haven't already, you might want to also install a widget that monitors vital stats, like temperature. I use one called TEMP+CPU Pro. It monitors CPU usage, clock speed, temperature, and available RAM and only takes up the space of one icon on your desktop.
I've been capped to 800mhz on a kernel that goes up to 1.3ghz for 2 weeks now. No problems.
Well if it makes your face smile, I run at 600mhz.

Sounds right. The stock settings are 1000 high and 400 low. Most people can lower the minimum to 200 with no problem. Some can run at 100 with no problem. Same goes for overclocking. Not all phones can handle 1300 and 1400. Then if you undervolt on top of lowering the minimum to say 200 or 100, you may be getting the wakelock or "Sleep of Death" lol
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Thanks
Thanks yall...after research..i thought i undervolted too much...but i been at that setting since i bought set cpu...i think the difference was..i switched kernel to genocide yesterday..aka..the same day i met the sleep of death..im back to the vision kernel now...what are some of yalls settings for set cpu???
I can go 1300 high to 100 low with on demand and no lock. But runs a little to hot for my taste so I usually go to 1000 to 100 I prefer battery life over speed. I am also running Bonsai that has great battery life on top of it.

What temperature is considered "overheating"?

I have been overclocking my CPU lately, sitting good right now at 1.2 ghz. I have it undervolted as well to prevent overheating. My question is what temperature do you associate with too hot? 100 F? more?
I dont like letting my phone get over 95 F, but im just curious to know what is considered a safe temperature range.
I cant directly measure my CPU temp, as that feature is not offered on our phone which really sucks, i have to go by the battery.
I have not the slightest clue but I would think you would go by how it feels in your hand and whether or not you can "smell" the cpu burning. I usually dnt clock it above 1.2 unless I'm gaming which is bad but I have it setup by a laptop cooler so it never overheats. Id say anything more than 90 would be pushing it.....

Not true put it like this our phones automatically shut off @ 122*F I go to 115*F when i play GTA 3 @ 1.5Ghz, but i can clock to 104*F just streaming music on WiFi.
So id say personally probably around 110*F+
Yes 105*F is hot but don't run it that high forever though.
But thats the battery, CPU stays fine so id say if your running 100*F+ For more than an hour than it might overheat??? Not completely sure but like i said everyday i play GTA 3 and get up to those temps.

Do you undervolt your cpu or run it on stock cpu voltages? I'm currently running samurai assassination and my phone always crashes if I undervolt it, and usually crashes when I run it at max voltages, but only when I overclock.

I would consider 114 f overheating, that's when I have setcpu underlock to 800 mhz

Used to but because i play GTA 3 now i dont if undervolt that defeats the sole purpose to overclock so i can play without lag, once you undervolt it decreases performance but however gains in battery life.

I would agree, 105, 108 would be ok but not for extended periods. Taking the back off usually cools the phone almost 5 degrees for me, but Epics are weird

Phone heating up running CyanogenMod?

I'm currently running CyanogenMod 7.2 stable. My kernel is Tiamat 3.3.7 with smartass gov. My question, is anyone having any issues with there phone overheating and randomly restarting? It always seems to get really warm on the bottom on the back. I'm guessing near the processor.
I tried reinstalling the rom and switched kernels between Tiamat and SalvagedZen, underclocked down to 806mHz and it still seems to do the same thing.
Does anyone know of any setting changes or adjustments I can make to stop this? This only seems to happen when running this Rom, I never get it when running Sense. I would really like to keep this Rom but the warm phone in hand thing is beginning to become unbearable.

Try using Mason 15rc 4 and change your gov to Wheatly. Play around with it

To be honest, pretty heavy use. But even when I'm on it for a short time.
It's almost as if my processor clocks to full max every time a turn my screen on.

43 isn't too bad. I don't like phone getting that hot but it does occasionally especially since I have the rezound now and 45-50c is considered average!
What gov were you using? The CPU frequency doesn't impact temps too much. Its mainly the screen pulling juice and heating the battery. Best you can do is keep screen as dim as you can take it and underclocking a bit will help just a tad. I like sbc as well but like I said earlier, savaged Zen has an extra app called sz manager I think its called to disable/enable sbc whenever you want (when not charging ) give it a shot

Phone Gets Real Hot

Hey guys wondering if anyone else had this issue? Got the Galaxy S3 and its runs pretty hot. Not like the whole phone but like half of it mostly where the home button is but in the back.
Don't know what it is. Wanted to know if anyone else was experiencing this or if its kernel related/ROM related.
I've tried switching ROMs, Kernels, Governors, Schedulers and still nothing. Also undervolting and underclocking. Right now I'm running Casper's AOKP build 9/20 and its running beautifullyt except for this heating issue.
Let's see if anyone else is having the same as me or can offer help.

I'm running stock, rooted, stock kernel. It heats up when I'm gaming or doing something CPU intensive. Never had a problem because of it though. I've seen other threads where this is pretty much considered normal.
I mean I had a GNex before this and it did used to get warm in the back when I used to surf the web or use the phone but once I rooted and changed kernels, undervolted and underclocked, I could do anything and it wouldn't get hot.
Since I'm fairly new to the GS3 I just figured I post it on here just to see if this was how the phone ran typically

Like its weird. When I'm not using the phone is perfectly fine. When I text or sometimes use WiFi its fine. And also when my battery is like under 30% its fine. But other times like when its full, it gets really hot. I'm using lean kernel ATM.

that would kinda make sense because when i use the adapter on the micro sd and put that in the computer and put some roms and some videos on it id say maybe 10 min to do all that. and then when i retrieve and go to put in the phone its really hot. so it could have something to do with that
