Anyone have any idea how to fix my issue?
My device is not rooted nor running any other ROM. At this point I can care less if the solution involves rooting my phone and loading a rom. HELP PLEASE.
Device was updating to the latest software....
Stuck on ODIN MODE. Error message "Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
T-Mobile tier 2 and Samsung Tier 3 could not figuire out how to fix it.
-Can't get to the recovery bootloader menu screen.
-When ever I pull the battery and plug it in it goes straight to this screen, nothing else even if I do the hardware keys to -get to the bootloader screen.
-If I connect my device to my computer and load Kies it does not reconize my device, if I go to the Emergency Recovery Screen under options nothing is in the list and no one seems to know the code to put n the code option.
What do I do? Samsung said to send it in to get flashed.
Is there any way for me to flash it on this screen at all? At this point I don't mind rooting it and loading a rom, any help would be great. Thank you!
Ibhad that same issue when i was updating. I made a video . Just follow this because kies did not work for me but odin did. Post on here questions if you have them. Ill help you. Odin will help you reupdate. Its not bricked just stuck in download mode.

Awesome, it does say com3 and added at the bottom, I will give it a try.
Glad to hear that. And im assuming you got all the other stuff you need. Like the update? Itll take about 8 mins. Once it reboots itll say pass and should not have errors. If you get any errors let me know what step it got stuck in and what the error was.

Someday in the future I will want to root and load a rom on to my phone, is ODIN used for that process too? I have done it with my old HD2, but I am sure its different now.
Odin can be used to root or to install other things. Once you are rooted though you can flash via cwn rwcovery instead

Sweet, I am fimilier with cwn rw-covery. Thanks again!
I do have one question though. When you unlock the screen why does it show the bar with "swipe screen to unlock" on it? I never had that before? Do you know how to remove it?
People are reporting that after a couple uses and reboots it went away. Mine was there then it went away

Sorry for posting a new thread but I want to make sure I am heading in the right direction. I bought a Galaxy S3 yesterday that was rooted. I want to put it back to stock ROM. I downloaded Odin and the ATT Stock ROM's. Everything went ok and passed without fail, but my phone is stuck on boot. Googling around I found a how to where I could run CWM Recovery, but it seems like this is for rooted devices stuck at boot. I am looking to go back to stock. Will this work or is there something else I am missing? Thanks and I will begin searching on the forum for help.
Edit: My phone does go into dowload mode.

so dont worry you'll be fine as long as your able to go to download mode your phone is good
Heres how to restore to stock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypmqJbZqOaU
If you wanna root it again like a boss heres the link for that too:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoEVDgjTTdg
Great. Thanks for that link. I actually found that video and was looking for the drivers. I noticed the one he linked if for Sprint. My phone is ATT though. I clicked on the ATT link a little further down in his description where it says AT&T USA. I am assuming this is the correct file to install right? Now is that the TAR file or the drivers? He didnt post an AT&T link for one of those.

It wont let me get into factory reset either. I hold power up, power and home and it goes to...
Firmware upgrade encountered and issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. I cant get into Kies because Kies doesnt connect to the device
Ok I followed QBkings video and everything worked fine and passed but I am still stuck on the Samsung screen. I know he mentioned factory reset but he did it once he was already into the actual phone. Mine wont get in.
You guys are all beasts! Thanks a million for the help. Factory reset finally worked! My phone didnt reset by itself though.
Well I see you must have been able to fix your phone!
It must be like the Atrix 2, but instead of FXZ restoration w/ RSD Lite, you use TAR files and Odin

Boot into recovery. Vol up + home + power. When your device vibrates and you see the blue text in the top left corner of the screen, release just the power button.
Wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache

Are you using the file that is stated in the post you referenced? Im no unbricking expert but Not sure putting verizon firmware on a tmo phone works very well...
Also I had a problem with Odin awhile back and it turned out to be the cable I was using...
If you can get into download mode and have odin recognize your phone I believe you will be good to go if you put the correct software on your phone...
Think you should try to Odin back to a stock firmware for your phone instead of using some sort of "unbrick" method... use only one from this post

From an Odin guide I read, can't remember the one now. I believe it said to use the cable from the wall charger. Other cables may work, but that is the one that should work for some reason no matter what.
Good Luck.
If nothing else works on it, search for mobiletechvideos.com. I flashed I-9300 ROM onto my T-999 phone. Hard bricked it. I sent it to those guys and within 1 week, phone was back and was like it was before I flashed the wrong ROM. Great service they provide. It was also my only option. ha.
Hey folks,
I was trying to flash a custom kernel (Phenomenal Extreme 4.0) from Clockworkmod on a rooted stock 4.1.2 rom and kernel. I placed the zips on my sd card, then flashed, but it was unsuccessful. Then, when I rebooted from CWM's main menu, the phone went dead. Nothing worked, no buttons, no nothing. Any combination I tried failed, from a simple reboot, to reboot into recovery, to a reboot into download mode. Took battery out, and placed it back in, still nothing.
I'd appreciate any help you can give me! If there's anything like a factory cable, that is still better than nothing. I think I bricked it, and no warranty (Samsung's 3 month is quite short). When I plug the phone in, the laptop responds with a sound but it's not the usual sound when you dock the device. A balloon says that device driver installation failed. Then nothing happens. In any case, I rooted it and there's a flash counter of 1 on it, even if I'm running stock everything. Again, I appreciate any help!

What forum did you find that kernel? Hopefully it was made for d2tmo.
+Bound for Valhalla!
I just checked, it wasn't. It's actually made for the international version -- my fault. Oh crap, I'm totally screwed, aren't I? *rolling eyes and a long sigh*
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1917234 My question is, it failed regardless, and why would it die AFTER I reboot the phone? It should've died right when I tried to install it through CWM.

Google jtag repair.
That's an expensive paper weight.
|When Emotion Goes Up, Logic Goes Down|
I made a Nandroid before messing around.
Once I do the JTAG repair, can I restore using that Nandroid after re-rooting and flashing CWM? The guy who will be doing the JTAG said that it's dangerous because there's a risk of bricking involved.
I would just restore things individually, personally. I don't know what you had on there, but is there anything that you can't restore some other way ?
That happened to me when i flash wromg kernel. And I had a panic attack...but I somehow manage to go into recovery mod....if you can go into recovery mod...have no fear back up is there lol
Just wipe everything and restore your backup.

I had the same problem when I first got my S3. I flashed a file that was for my S2 not realizing and the phone responded the same way or didnt respond at all. Im not saying this will work but you can try. Do the proper button combo to get into download. It wont show anything on your scrren but the phone could still be in download mode. Go ahead and try connecting it to your computer and see if odin will recognize it. Make sure you have your drivers installed and dont forget to push volume up to get all the way into download mode. It worked for me once before and I hope to never have to try it again. If you have already tried this then your out of luck and will have to jtag.
JTAG is no scam. It is a VERY reliable source! Go for it.

Never mind, warranty exchange. I don't want to send my phone to strangers, even if it's legitimate. Still $45-$60 on the credit card.
I have a question though, as long as the phone is under warranty, I can exchange for a replacement an unlimited number of times, right?

Yes you can...I did it with my S2 until I got one that did'nt have any signs of being refurbished. It looked brand new! I have even told them that something was wrong with the phone (hardware issue) when there was nothing wrong just because the one year warranty was about to run out and it had a few cosmedic blemishes..I have given them a lot of money in the past 9 years so I do'nt feel too bad... I did it with my Vibrant as well.
Hi friends!!
After my S4 decided to run away without insurance I had to revert back to my s2. It still had Hellybean on it so I upgraded it to PA 4.45 just to check it out on my phone. Then I went into the instructions on how to unlock the phone. I went to revert it back to stock ICS that it came with to do so and when I rebooted it gets stuck at the samsung logo that pulses. I can't get into recovery but I still can get into download mode but nothing works when flashed. I tried using ODIN for every stock ROM available and still nothing. I never bricked a phone before and this doesn't seem like one to me since the bricks I fixed before have never been able to go into DL mode without being jigged, Can somebody help me. I need this running asap for medical reasons. I'm a sitting duck without this phone if something should happen to me. I live alone and have no land line if I need to call 911.

Of course not. But I think the problem may be that I didn't know that Kies was still installed in this computer.
And removing Kies didn't work either. I was talking to a guy that does jtag repair near me he said try that first. Gave me a pit file and it didn't help.

Here is something something that has worked for me twice. Use JOdin3 ( https://builds.casual-dev.com/jodin3/) Plug your phone in before going to the websute and put the TWRP tar file in PDA. Click start. It will say it needs to obtain a pit file. Click OK. Ignore the part about using in the download mode combo. It should bootloop your phone and you then might be able to unplug your phone and boot into recovery. I use this as a last resort but it has worked twice for me.
