Not really. All it does is help me with what radios are new and old. Not many people are saying where, geologically they are located. That's what this thread is for. The Geo of fellow members to better know which radio works best for your backyard. Not saying the other thread isn't working. Just want to get a better knowledge with Geo locations.

Flash some different radios and see how the reception is. Since things change so drastically from phone to phone and area to area, the best thing to do is try it yourself and see what works best.

So far I've flashed. UGKK7 no go with HSPA+ just HSPA. Also, UGKL1 same results. The UGHL1 gets me HSPA+. Trying more as we speak.

Thank you sir. XXLF1 does pretty good on my side too. I'm still testing here and there, for better results.

Went ahead and gave UILE1 + XXLF1 (RIL) a try once more. So far pleased now.. came out with better results than I was having 2 days ago. Results came to look as the Upload kept capping @ 1.75 and Capping @ 5.33 for DL..

GN owners on AT&T. Which Baseband?

For you guys with Galaxy Nexus on AT&T, which baseband do you have it installed? UG or stock XX? Just wondering which baseband offer best signal quality on AT&T.
I had UGKK7 up until last night and I like it overall but I just found out yesterday while going out with family in downtown Seattle area that my data connection suck. Basically it is really really slow or I get no data connection when I try to browse. At the very spot that I had very slow data connection or get no data connection error, I was able to use my wife iPhone 4 to browse internet fine. Although a little slower to usual, it was able to get on internet and browse fine.
So I was wondering which baseband you guys using on AT&T network?
I am currently using XXKK1 and have no issues.
stock here. faster down and up and the wife's iphone. make sure you are previsioned for the 4G data plan.
Not on AT&T but on T-Mobile, XXKK6 for me.
XXKK1 on AT&T with no issues.
Thanks guys. I just installed XXKK1 this afternoon. So far everything is running fine. I need to take a trip to downtown or mall setting where there are lots of people to really test this out.

hmm, best bet is to borrow a friend who has one of the AT&T 4G phone (inspire, infused, atrix). pop in your sim, call att to have them grandfather you to the unlimited 4G smart phone plan.
Currently using XXKK6 and it stinks over K1. My uploads are about the same, but downloads are about half.
UGKK7 right now. But these modems are region sensitive so you have to trial and error to find the best one for you.
Initially stock XXKK1 didn't give me good signal strength however data speeds were consistent within 2.0 - 2.5 mbps. With UGKK7 signal strength is a lot better than XXKK1 in most areas where I usually go (30 mile radius from Philly) however my data speeds are not consistent at all ... now I see anywhere from 700 kbps all the way to 6.5 mbps.
I am sticking with UGKK7 as it gives me the best signal (min 4 bars) and data speed (2.0 - 2.5 mbps) at home ...

Fyi, I'm actually the admin of one of the largest Texas Mason websites: www.masonsoftexas.com there are a handful of others on xda as well.
Anybody using The Ugk ones on ATT?
XXKK6 here
if you want to flash custom rom and stuff
i think u have to have XXKK6 or later baseband
tried UGKK6, UGKL1 and XXKL1
not much difference honestly
so went back to stock XXKK6

[Q] Best radio to use with Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile USA

So the official GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus (http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html)
is supposed to have xxkk6 radio (radio-maguro-i9250xxkk6.img)
I read in another place that the Asian varian has a different radio, and the canadian varians also have different radios. So being that the GSM Galaxy Nexus is not officially in the US on ATT or T-Mobile I was wondering wich radio is best to use on the T-Mobile network?
North American code is UG, I think UGKL01 is the newest released radio.

I am using ugkk7. Look in dev section to see if there are any updates.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
I'm using XXKK6 - it's been working fairly well for me. Probably gonna try out one of the UG roms.
i'm currently on UGKL1, live in denver colorado (where t-mobile has 4G coverage) and i dont get any type of HSPA+ speeds, on a good day my down is only 5891kbps and my up is a mere 1243kbps (same speeds as my Nexus S).
maybe US radios are optimized for CDMA networks, i'll switch to XXKK1 later and see if it helps - anyone actually get 4G speeds yet? if so, which radio are you on?
Probably best to use a UG based radio if you're in NA. I'm on UGKL1 and it's fine. I accidentally flashed an XX radio before and data would cut out a lot...
i updated to stock 4.0.2 for tmo and i'm getting 10mps down and 2 up around my area of the woods.
kk6 radio band.

If your tower doesn't have any more capacity available, it doesnt matter what *you* do. There's only 21mbps (or 42, depending on where you live) per tower sector to go around to every user in your sector. If it's 21mbps, all you need is 3 other active people on your tower to get those speeds (factor in radio link loss too).
Long story short, not a single thing you can do to control your speeds. And judging a radio's "ability" based upon speed test results is extremely inaccurate.
And the nexus only reaches 21mbps on T-Mobile anyways so there's that. The north American radios are optimized for Canada.

If you get it on the Sensation theres no reason why you wouldn't get it on the Nexus.
I was using the KK6 radio that came with my phone (assuming it was a UK one since it had a UK style plug in the box) but within 2 days of getting the phone I had dropped signal errors where only a reboot would fix it. I moved to UGKK7 and haven't had any issues since. Pretty sure my speed is slower though (haven't testing yet) so if you have no issues with KK6 keep it.
i've been on KK6 for about two weeks now, speeds never go above 5.5down - i guess i dont have very good HSPA+ coverage north of denver. i also have to turn on and off airplane mode once a day to fix connection issues.
I'm using XXKL1. I get speeds near 5-7 Mbps. Sometimes 9-10 if I get lucky.

I'm also in Chicago on the xxkk6 radio and I never seem to be able to get above 3-5mb down and .5-1mb up. I've also noticed that it shows "3g" as the connection status most of the time, save for when it momentarily shows an H at times.
Anyone have a clear answer on what is displayed when you attain an HSPA+ connection w/ this phone? I find it weird that with the dense 4G coverage in Chicago, I can't seem to get any better speeds than what I get w/ my N1.
Cheers, dudes.

Those sound like pretty standard 4g speeds to me. On a good day I get 10mbs. It really depends on how many people are sharing your tower. People with Verizon LTE are reaping the benefits of new technology without many users.
As for the icon I believe the GSM radio switches to 3g when no data is being transferred and switches to H when active to save power.

Best Radio for T-Mobile??

I have searched through numerous threads but found mixed answers...
Some say to use european version and some say use North America based radios...
I am currently using the XXKK6 right now and the performance is "OK" but I have feeling it CAN be better...
I live in NYC and T-Mobile service is pretty good out here... Please let me know which radios work the best in your opinion.
Currently running stock Yakju 4.0.4 with unlocked bootloader.
Try XXLA2 considering that is the latest out with the recent yakju OTA. I myself have not seen any major/significant boost to signal strength nor data speeds since my signal here is always superb.
I was using that one on TMob in Atlanta on 4.0.2 until my OTA came in last now. Now I'm 4.0.4 with XXLA2 and its a lot stronger.
I have my radios set to US version, not automatic if that helps.
UGLC1 is better than XXLA2 for me. NYC as well.

UGCL1, Where can I find this? Its not in the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345 Thread....
v4.0.2 and XXKK6 radio with Tmobile here in San Francisco. No call quality or data speed complaints to report. Fwiw I don't work inside a big building office type settings.
I seen Speedtest downloads from 1mbps to 7mbps and uploads from 1mbps to 3mbps. Performance often depends on location and variable network saturation levels.
I'm on XXLA2 and it seems great T-Mo in WA.

yes changing radios will improve/worsen your data speed.
you have to fastboot flash it... i believe you have to be bootloader unlocked to manually flash these images via bootloader mode.
follow the ROOT guide without using any tool kits (the process of.... fastboot oem unlock) ... just don't root, after its unlocked then type
fastboot flash radio <radioname>.img (make sure its set in your SDK folder). you can find this by googling it / searching it within XDA

That is NOT the latest North America radio. The latest is UGLC1.
UGLC1 > UGLA4 for me.
i'm on UGKL1 and it has been great for me. gotten up to 8Mbps down and 3Mbps up and great service almost everywhere. except places where i've always gotten bad service.
Any reason for me to upgrade to the latest? which i guess is UGLC1?
i am T-Mobile in NYC area and noticed that UGLC1 took really long to regain signal / service when getting out of subway. it was noticeably slower... It was actually longer than the XXLA2. I am flashing UGLA4 now and will report my findings

What is there that could help with cellular reception

I just received my GN today and my cellular reception is real weak avg 110 dBm. I have been trying to find anything about increasing signal strength but without any luck. Is there any fix out there?
What carrier? Does it just have consistently weaker connection when compared to another phone on the same network next to it?
You can try flashing a different radio. Mixed results for most.
I am on Verizon with the i515 GN in Michigan. Are there ones I should try first Radio wise? I also have the MiFi 4510L and it gets near perfect reception.
Also available on some networks are signal boosters, check with your provider
Yeah Verizon has a femtocell, they call it the Network Extender, but its $250. It uses your home broadband to fabricate a network in your house.
I was thinking more along the lines of an update to the radio or what not.

Like some people have said: flash a new radio. What specific radio however, that depends on your phone. One radio might play nice with someone's Nexus, but might be cheap with yours. Flash and try to see which ones are good. You can find them in the Development section. XX are for Europe and UG is for North America. Both played nice with me, but UG was slightly better.
So the Radio is the only flash/adb software that effects reception?

[Q] Gnexus Signal/Wifi Quality?

I purchased a Galaxy Nexus from Verizon shortly after release and I ended up returning it due to connection issues. The signal was very weak in areas where I normally have a good signal strength. This was causing some missed calls. Also, I had troubles staying connected to my wifi from the bedroom when every other wireless device I own had no such issue.
I am not overly impressed with SGS3 and I find the $399 no contract Galaxy Nexus to be very attractive. I am considering giving the GNexus another try but I don't want to go through the hassle if I am going to have the same issues.
Finally, my question is, will I have a better connection with the non-Verizon version of the phone purchased directly from Google either due to it being a different version or due to updates since I last tried it with Verizon shortly after release?
I enjoyed the phone other than the issues I mentioned above. I am currently back with AT&T and off contract since I returned the Verizon phone. Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Kirk
Well I didn't get a response here, but I ordered mine from google yesterday. Hoping for the best and will post what differences I see in case anyone is interested.
Honestly don't think the WiFi will be drastically better. They're pretty much the same, although I've never particularly had issues on my GSM model.
Hope it works out.
The GSM doesn't have cell signal issues like the Verizon one. But wifi will be the same. I've found the wifi range to match my atrix for distance from router. I ignore the bars and just read the signal dBm and its fine.
I've had my GNex for a little over a week now. At home and at work, I get great signal for GSM/3G, and Wifi is excellent, as long as it's 2.4GHz. 5GHz works, but is weaker due to higher frequencies not penetrating walls as well.
Out and about, it's a different story. MANY business that I go to will have ZERO signal indoors, and I will have to go outside to do something as simple as a Yelp check-in. GPS also falters pretty seriously. I upgraded to 4.0.4 as soon as I could. My phone is rooted, but has the stock ROM. My Captivate got a MUCH better signal than the GNex, and was about to ask if anyone knew a way to boost the signal. My battery life is phenomenal, but I would gladly sacrifice some of it to be able to get a usable signal inside a building made of something other than wood.
UPDATE: After I did a bit of research, I determined that the GNex that shipped from Google had the XXLA2 radio on it, which is odd since it's a phone that's only sold in the US. I did a bit of research and changed the radio to UGLC1. If I'm right, the European baseband won't do anything on 850MHz, but the NA Baseband will. I'll test it out and report back here. If I'm right, then shame on Google for shipping a phone with the wrong radio!
