[Q] Search and most left buttons stoped work - HTC Wildfire S

Hi,
I'm using CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC2 marvel/marvelc ALPHA7 ROM. Lately, i've tryied to force my Wildfire S to use ext partition. To do this, i've been following this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23834586&postcount=5. Sadly, it didn't word in the first palce with s2e app from attachment in mentioned thread, so i've repartitioned sdcard using build-in ROM Manager. After reboot it's started to work. ROM Manager allow create only 512MB ext partition, so I've decided to repartition card again, using CWM into 1024MB size. I forgot about fact, that i've moved Application Data to sd-ext partition. In result, applicaion data folder was removed. I've lost phone configuration, sms and contacts. What is most irritating, search and desktop bottom stoped to work.
Now i'm using S2E from the market and everything seems to work great insted of both, search (the most right) and history (most left) button. Any ideas how to repair that problem? I can't find any options relatated to that buttons, so maybe i've lost some configuration files becouse of reformating my sdcard?

Important data such as config files for the buttons will never be stored on the sdcard so in this case, you should perform a factory reset and reflash

Thanky you for replay.
What i'm guessing is that i've incidentally removed application which is responsible for preveiw of open application, signed into most left button and application for search button. My question is, where can I find them and what is name of those applications?
I want to avoid reflashing ROM again, becouse of tired reconfiguration and app instalation over and over again.

There is no application that controls the buttons. You may reflash without wiping data. You wil not have to reinstall your apps

[Q] problem with Cool3D AceS v4

Bonjour,
I've got a problem with this rom.
I've installed it with this link (http://www.cooldevs.com/archives/120), and just after it, flash:
- Stock_Hboot.zip
- RcTweaks For Stock Hboot
- Weather Pack
Reboot...
There was few decreasements in comparaison of InsertCoin, but the more annoying is the new Market which bug.
He try to restore me all apps (I don't know if it's linked to my problem)
I fell asleep during restauration of all apps andat wake up, I saw that few apps didn't ben restored.
- So I tried to restore them but impossible : I had an download error which was impossible to resolve even with delete the cache of Market application, wipe dalvik cache (executing the script which migrate it to sd-ext on the way). I precise that is was not a problem of space of my ext4.
- A second message at startup which tells me ""your phone is using more current than the charger is able to deliver...". For the moment, I never had this message (maybe it's because it's a pure Sense 3 rom I don't know...)
- In the way, I'm asking if there is a way to prevent Market to restore all apps at startup...because it's very penible if I have many applications, and I prefer to choose myself what I'd like to restore (if it's linked lso to my market problem...)
Edit : Even when restoring my rom, I've problem now with my market. Maybe it's the conversion on the fly of my ext3 partition to ext4 (to test the new rom) with 4ExtRecovery which has problem. So I return to recovery, check partition alignement which tell me that my fat32 is not properly aligned. I wipe partition table to rebuild all and I give you some news.
Edit 2: It changes nothing...now my market of my first rom don't work anymore...
Thanks a lot
OK, partition your card properly first and flash your new rom. Then during setup when you link your account to your phone, click you don't want it backed up and restored, remove both ticks. Then you hold power button and turn airplane mode on. You finish setup, push Titanium backup on your phone and restore your apps. Now you turn airplane mode off and the Market won't be downloading anything anymore. If you don't have TB backup, you're screwed mate. You can't abort silly Google restore nor you can choose what to install, flush list or do anything with it. It completely whacks a concept of having a clean install and that is the reason I hate ports even more. I know this is at best a workaround and not a solution, but probably you won't get anything better.

Ok, Thanks I'll try that for the future if I want to re install a new Rom but why I've this problem even in restoring my old rom?
And the most strange is that the problem is there also with my old HTC Hero under Cyanogen :-(.
Thanks.

Low system memory bug

Hi,
The problem is, that I cant install apps that are over 6mb. Sometimes updates just remove apps from my phone, just saying "not enough space". The best part is, that I have ~130MB on /system, and 1,5GB on /sdcard! It happens both on stock-based roms and FXP 133 (CM9). I just have no clue what to do.
Wiped dalvik cache, cache, formatted data and system, it just happens no matter what. After moving all apps to SD problem persists. What am I missing?
Xperia arc, FXP 133 anzu, with included kernel
Forgot to add: It's a fresh installation. Sometimes larger applications install properly. I had problems with Titanium Backup and Sygic.
Not sure but if you're moving apps etc. to your SD card you might need to clear up space or buy another SD card (i recommend 12 -16gb SD card)
If its stored in internal memory you might need to do the same and clear up space
Have you tried using another sd card just to make sure whether the problem is with your existing sd card or device?

It has nothing to do with sd-card, can u both read? Should I provide logcat?
EDIT: Sorry, I meant nothing offensive, I'm just too direct sometimes.
What else is there left to wipe, when /system, /data, /cache and dalvik cache has been purged? Apps simply download, install and then Google play gives notification about lack of disk space. It happens even, when I install apk's using ES File Explorer. Why can I install games larger than 15MB (no sd data, so it lands entirely in phone memory), and can't install 6MB Sygic? APK file is NOT corrupted, it works on my other phone. Market version is no good as well...
Same problem with me too, i tried to install Google Now (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818189) and it refuses to copy the files in the /system with the error "Not enough memory".
It was fine till i used Pureness ROM, but now i am on Jelly Sandwich.
When you install an app, there is two files, the apk and the corresponding odex file (same name than the apk, suffix is '.odex'). Sometime, when you play with restore, moving apps in system, odex them or changing rom without cleanup, the ".odex" file remains. Search for corresponding odex file in /system/app or /data/app and delete it.
When you save apps to internal they go into data/app not system /apps
check what space you have if needed save some gspps from internal to system by using app called links2sd free from play store.
Try cleaning the dalvik cache this is not the same as deleting the mentioned app can do this.
titanium backup can help with moving to system and cleaning to dalvik.
Also look in vendor/app there may be some issues there.

vendor/app holds one small file, it has sth to do with ringtones, so it's not that.
Before switching roms I always make a proper cleanup.
There is sth interesting about system app manager though, it shows that "19..." of internal storage is used and "183 MB" is free. Why are there three dots instead of MB, and why is it just 19? It looks like the dots replaced sth that doesn't fit inside of the text field (190MB?).
Why does it happen after cleaning everything, on fresh, "Out-of-the-Box" rom? I could understand it on Ice Bean (it started on that rom), it was 200mb+ stock-based rom, but FXP is just ~130mb! There should be plenty of space for app data.
EDIT: Wow, thats even more odd, I've just managed to install all the apps I couldn't! Like the problem was never there. It's weird and I still want to know what the hell was that, and make sure it won't happen again, as I have no time for X Files kind of things.
Thanks for feedback, so far.

[Q] Insufficient memory available - with a twist.

Acer Iconia A100 Tab, ICS, rooted, unlocked, backed up, CWM, Superuser.
The A100 comes from the factory with 8GB internal memory and I added a 32GB chip. Fine, but as expected, I soon got the dreaded "Insufficient memory available" message. The A100 has an inherent design flaw which does NOT allow apps to be transferred to SD (have tried everything).
I've successfully swapped the mount points and now have combined the internal 8GB and the external 32GB to act as one single drive. The machine now sees itself as having 40GB of internal storage. Works perfectly BUT...
...now I'm permanently getting the ol' "Insufficient storage available" message on EVERY app I try to install. Even worse - I've done massive uninstalling of almost ALL my programs, and now I can't re-install ANY apps with getting the insufficient storage message, either from Play Store, or as a standalone apk installer file.
I've tried;
- Lucky Patcher
- rebooted countless times
- set all system files and folders to RW
- every type of cache cleaning program
- increased my swap filesize to maximum
- every type of past-program-cleanup tidy program
- tested, verfified, but still replaced, the 32GB sd chip
- used a terminal emulator to properly rewipe the cache folder
- restricted the list or startup programs to only system-required apps
- using SDK, have tried both the "set install apps to internal" and external drives
There is very little left on my system now (95% free), and the system runs beautifully and passes all diagnostics. I've just reached the point now where I cannot install or reinstall even the tiniest tiny programs. Of the few remaining programs, I dare not uninstall CWM, Superuser or ADB Control, for fear of not being able to even restore past backups.
In short, the more capacity I give back to the system, the less capacity it has.
Any thoughts/suggestions? (other than using it as a doorstop)
IF you have GPS enabled, look for the GPS data files (I can't remember exactly where) as the GPS on some of these tablets (like mine) repeatedly download AGPS data at will filling up part of the memory. Not sure if this is your issue, but this caused me all kinds of insufficient memory problems with my A100.
Yup, check the /data/GPS folder. If you use GPS it gets loaded with dated .txt cache files. The only fix is deleting them every once and a while or factory reset if your not rooted,

Thanks for your input. Yes, by this point I've ended up with a long checklist of regular things to do just to take any argument away from the machine. I regularly clear the data from Play Store and Frameworks. The GPS has been disabled for weeks, and was set to not update from any source other than straight GPS satellites (non-network). I killed off the few GPS data files I did find.
The available storage is now down to 382mb, and seems to be dropping by 50mb per day - while it simultaneously tells me I have 28GB free! WTF?
I now only have about 7 programs installed, excluding the obvious factory preinstalled ones.
CWM - 384kb
ES File Explorer - 5.7mb
Android Assistant - 1.74mb
Acer Recovery Installer - 2.55mb
Lucky Patcher - 5.62mb
ROM Manager - 5.32mb
Link2SD - 0.94mb
Wake Lock - 72kb
If I uninstall any of these in the vein hope of trying to clear any more space, I won't be able to put them back. Everytime I boot, I get the "Low space" warning, and no apps can be installed at all.
Just a thought - under Data Usage > Removed Apps > it shows an ever-climbing graph, and says Foreground: 0.00B, Background 2.70GB Is this just a record of past activity? Or does it show actual space that's being consumed? If so, I can see no way of clearing it. The View app settings button is greyed out.
I was having a similar problem although I never figured out what was the deal I used pio's black hole wipe and reinstalled my rom and everything works great now.

I was going to mention that app tends to cause that error, its come up before. Any further discussion concerning that app should be taken to PM or off forum completely.
I would suggest the black hole wipe or at least a hard reset and leave that app out of the next install. No restores just fresh installs from play store.

Lucky Patcher was the last app I was successfully able to install a few days ago, and I only put it on in a last ditch effort to try and solve the 'insufficient memory available' problem which had been growing steadily worse over the past two weeks.
I did a hard reset and confirmed a clean running virginal machine, although I still got the 'Low space' and 'Insufficient memory available' message, but I did a another backup just to be safe. I then followed the black hole wipe to the letter. Everything went smoothly through each step, and now when the phone boots, it just sits there displaying the Acer logo for eternity.
When I do a recovery boot, I can now only get
"Erasing Cache before SD update...
SD update cmd: recovery
Booting recovery kernel image
Recovery verified failed..."
Did this just brick my tab? Or does someone know of a way out? Obviously the PC or ADB no longer recognizes it.

Hmm. Silence.
Can anyone give me their humble private opinion if running the black hole wipe has indeed bricked my system?
- or - based on the message I'm now getting...
"Erasing Cache before SD update...

Booting recovery kernel image

Does anyone know if there's anything that can be tried first, before I send it back to Acer?
Has anyone themselves had that message before?

The black hole wipe:
Cache Wipe: Formats /cache and deletes /data/dalvik-cache.
System Wipe: Formats /cache /system and /data. Recovery mounts INTERNAL SD to /data/media
Please backup your INTERNAL SD before running this or you will lose everything on it!
Cache Nullify: Nullifies /cache and deletes Dalvik-cache.
System Nullify: Nullifies /cache /data /system.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1682525
All of which is not necessarily to be feared - as long as you can still gain access to the recovery ROMs on the external SD. The problem is, after doing the above-mentioned processes, you cannot even boot into recovery, much less access the external SD. All you're left with is the Acer logo, and the ability to power up or down.

Wow! That's good news! (maybe) So... if I can unlock the bootloader then, in theory, I should be able to continue restoring the tab? Please excuse my vertical learning curve on this. If I understand correctly, there is no bootloader unlocker for the A100 iteself, but apparently there's a compatible one for the A200 that can be used.
From my tab's current state, could you please tell me what the next step(s) are?
I'd be eternally indebted to you.

Recovering your phone
I assume you Unlocked your bootloader and installed Clockworkmod Recovery.
One of the first things you Should Have done at that point is back up your original ROM and then save it somewhere for safe keeping that way you can use the restore feature when you boot up into recovery. This would revert it back to the exact state of your phone when the back up was done.
If you did NOT back up your ROM, then I recommend looking for a stock ROM online and downloading it and flashing it via Recovery.
(not as familiar with this method, but i believe it would be like installing any other ROM, correct me if I'm wrong?)
You could also fix this problem by installing the RUU for your phone model/carrier like you may have done when unlocking the bootoader (if it was necessary) This would revert it completely back to stock.

Thanx man so much
I have another question , how to expand the internal phone memory with that of memory card ?
My favourite method is to install link2sd after rooting and enable the auto linking feature. This uses symbolic links and a secondary partition with ext2 format on the SD to automatically push applications to SD right after u install them. App data is kept on the internal memory for speed.
At anytime, u can unlink apps which moves the app to internal memory. They say certian apps perform faster when installed to internal memory. You can also choose to move certian apps to system partition to save even more space while keeping performance.
To create the secondary partition, you can boot into CMW recovery and use the partition SD feature.
Check out a few tutorials online of how to set it up. It's easy and gives u lots of control. I do factory reset every once in a while to retain only apps on system partition and then clear the SD secondary partition using link2sd and then I reinstall and link extra apps again.
I can have around 45 apps installed at a time. Goodluck! Let me know if u have any questions.

[Q] KitKANG 4.4 by spezi77 - how to remove INT2EXT4 script properly?

Hi all,
i was testing this ROM and it works pretty well for a pre-alpha release. Actually there is a known issue (Settings / Apps / Properties -> FC) that is driving me nuts... I really need to open the Properties to move certain apps to "internal".
There are a couple of apps natively installing parts on SD card, for example Final Fantasy 4 or the XDA developers app. For whatever weird reason when the phone is rebooting these apps are completely disappearing and need to be reinstalled from the Playstore. This is happening to all apps which are "on SD card" in Settings / Apps.
So far i could not figure out why these apps are disappearing, but i believe the Properties FC is related to the INT2EXT4 script. I tried removing the script from init.d folder in the zip file to use Mounts2SD from Playstore instead. Did a full wipe and reinstalled, but then everything was force closing at setup wizard sceen.
Is it possible to remove the INT2EXT4 script from this ROM without crippling it completely? If yes, what is the procedure to remove it properly?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for opening up a Q&A thread.
To remove INT2EXT and make a full restore of A2SD, you have to
1. remove 40int2ext from system/init.d/
2. copy the following files from any JB rom with A2SD support:
- system/init.d/03sdcard
- system/init.d/10apps2sd
- system/bin/a2sd

I hope this will solve your problem.
Another thing to check, how did you partition your sd card? Should be done with 4EXT recovery or gparted only (not minitool)
Backup and repartition your sd card if it's not done with those methods. One FAT32 partition, one 1.5-2GB max ext4 partition, no need for swap even though I think it says in OP.
To get around apps installing partially on sd card you could try a couple of things instead of replacing the script as it should work:
- Use titanium backup, long press an app and to move them to 'internal' to move to sd-ext, gets around having to navigate app settings
- I believe the ROM comes bundled with Xposed? Find a module called Modaco Toolkit, has a system option to 'Disable Forward Lock' which should prevent auto installation of apps to SD card (it works for me on Nexus devices preventing apps installing to virtual /mnt/asec sdcard partition, not tested with a real SD card but I believe the principle is the same, try it). If this method works, it's cleaner as apps should always get installed to 'internal' (sd-ext) in the first place.

To remove INT2EXT you have only to remove it from system/init.d/
But you will have to copy 03sdcard into system/init.d/ folder. This script comes along with a2sd and is responsible for mounting the sd-ext.
I hope this will solve your problem. If not you should insert the following files for a full restore of a2sd:
- system/init.d/03sdcard
- system/init.d/10apps2sd
- system/bin/a2sd

Tried your suggestion without success. As soon as I remove INT2EXT from init.d in the zip file ROM is going crazy force closing everything after fresh installation. Very strange... Restoring A2SD didnt help either. Is it only me or is it reproducible for other users?

1 GB sd-ext partition created with 4EXT, no swap. Had bad experience with minitool and even gparted so I always use 4EXT for partitioning. Works fine for every other JB or ICS ROM.
***facepalm*** YES OF COURSE TB!! - that's the workaround, shame on me... Sometimes you don't see the wood for the trees...
BTW with Xposed and Gravity / Modaco toolkit Final Fantasy 4 refused to start, I had to remove both modules to get it working again.
Thanks a lot for driving me to the right direction, I'm fine with the workaround for now.
