Hello All,
Well, after scouring the internet for a solution, I am back here again with the problem still there. So plz don't start with the "do you know abt google ?" or "do a thorough search before u come here" comments.
PROBLEM: Until 2 days ago I was on ARHD 6.32 with NoSense++ 1.6 script using Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M. I had been using this setup for at least 6 months. Everything was fine & I've never had this earpiece problem before with ANY rom. Also, if it helps, I had installed the Beats Installer (I hope that din't mess up my earpiece???). Then 2 days ago I was using Viber (I use it regularly) but the sound in the earpiece was rather loud & distorted & it sounded as if the sound were tearing through the speaker. I don't mean that literally, I'm just describing how it sounded. However, when I turn the speakerphone on, I can hear the person at the other end clearly.
WHAT I DID: I thought ok maybe I need to do a full wipe & it'll b fixed but I also wanted to try out the new ICS & JellyBean roms. After doing a full wipe I flashed the ICS rom by existz (amazing rom) but the earpiece problem was still still there. So then after doing a full wipe, I flashed the IceColdSandwich rom by Lord ClockAN (another amazing rom) but the earpiece problem remained. Then after performing yet another full wipe, I flashed the JellyBean- JellyTime rom (lovely rom). Then I installed the latest radio by pushing it through adb (Radio_12.68.60.29U_26.16.04.09_M) & did a reboot. Earpiece problem remains. So finally I flashed SuperWipe by Mike1986 then ARHD 7.04, NoSense++ 1.6 script, Friendstream remover then performed a reboot. Loving this rom btw. But the earpiece problem remains. Someone in the ARHD thread advised me to remove all voip apps as he replaced the earpiece in his phone but the problem returned & din't go away until he had removed ALL voip apps on his DHD. No VoIP apps r installed on my DHD as it's a fresh install...
FINAL CONCLUSION: Problem is STILL there, I've tried everything I possibly could Does this mean I need a new earpiece ?
Advice would be much appreciated... Thanks everyone....
I have same problem, I searched every whwere to find :
Radio_12.68.60.29U_26.16.04.09_M
Pls advise the link
Thanks
Have you tried completely wiping the SD card as well as doing a full wipe of everything else? Sometimes things on the SD card can cause strange issues. I've had it happen to me. If that doesn't work you may want to reverse to s on and wipe SD and install stock ruu. If problem is still there at complete stock then its probably hardware.

Hey mate,
thanks a lot... By wipe du mean just format it after backing up the SD card ? Also, if I backup the backups of various apps e.g. settings, contacts, sms etc & then format the SD card, do all those folders show up again after I flash a stock ROM ? I guess I'm not too clear on wot u mean by wiping the SD card

Yes just backup stuff you know and have put there like music, pictures, downloaded stuff you want to keep etc. Anything you don't know what it is don't back it up. Then format SD card. Do a full format not a quick. Then without ejecting card, reboot into recovery. Mount SD card in recovery and put on rom you want to use. Select wipe all partitions except SD card and then flash ROM. The goal is to try and flash your device with nothing on SD card except the ROM itself.

I suppose to avoid the possibility of not ejecting causing problems you could just go to recovery then mount SD and do the above.

What's the difference between
Radio_12.69.60.29_26.17.14.11_M
and
Radio_12.69a.60.29U_26.17.14.11_M
??
I think it's the same thing... Check the MD5 for each of them... If it's the same then they're the same radio.. Also, at times depending upon ur carrier/phone service, the U will change to another letter even though it's the same radio....
Thanks
These settings in build prop change the U to P or whatever depending on what's there.

1) Hey man, well where do I find the proper stock rom ? I know abt this link, or is it some other link:
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace
2) I got my phone from Vodafone UK on contract... Which rom should I flash from the list above ? Or if it's some other link I should be at then plz advise... Cheers...
3) I JUST found this link on the HTC website under HTC media link Rom update for HTC Desire HD 1.11.0.0):
http://www.htc.com/uk/help/htc-desire-hd/#download
Is this the ruu I'm looking for ?
4) After flashing the stock ruu, I will obviously lose root. Wot abt S-OFF ? Will that still b active ? Nonetheless, how do I root my DHD again ? Using this ?
http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=74
Once you flash the ruu you will still be s off. From there you can just use aahk to reflash recovery and then flash whatever rooted rom you want. Some people claim though that they were able to fix an issue by using aahk to return to stock with s on. And then flashing ruu and then verifying problem is gone. If so run aahk again to gain s off, root and custom recovery.

Hey man I don't know which RUU to use. Plz help me out w that ? Or shud I just use the latest WWE ?
This is the first I've heard of this problem... does it affect the Inspire as well?
I will wait to see if your sound problem is solved.
I am not ready to re roote , last time i did it for DHD before two years, it was dificult , took me 3 hours.
I dont know whether it is simple with using aahk.
Good luck
Hello people,
Well the sound problems is NOT solved which means I need a new earpiece unfortunately
I did everything I could:
1) I booted into recovery & wiped the cache & dalvik cache
2) then I wiped all partitions except SD card & then I wiped the SD card just to make sure the problem wasn't due to anything on my SD card (software related)
3) during all this time my DHD was connected to my PC via the USB cable
4) so then I dloaded one of the latest stock roms from this link http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Ace The file u dload is in .exe so then I was kinda stuck
5) anyway, the Advanced Ace Hack Kit (AAHK) is VERY easy to use, trust me. I remember rooting my DHD in late 2010 & it wasn't easy cuz u had to downgrade the stock rom & then root it but the AAHK (http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=74) is simply a ONE click method provided uve followed the "EFFIN MANUAL" & done the prerequisites.
6) also, if uve done wot I did & are quite stuck then no problem, u can follow one of the options in the AAHK menu & dload a stock rom through it & then flash it (ALL done automatically). All u need is common sense & to be able to read English LOL It's THAT simple...
7) so I dloaded a Vodafone stock rom & booted into it but YET AGAIN the earpiece problem was STILL there.
8) so then I rooted my device once more (again very easy to do, a ONE click method) & installed ARHD 7.04 on it... Everything is top notch except for the earpiece problem. I've dloaded a few videos to help me replace the earpiece. The earpiece itself costs between £5-8 from eBay UK...
I have done the same, the sound problem not solved and decided to replace the ear-piece . Disassembly video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfatoeWbMRk
Please advise the video you have downloaded for ear-piece replacement
and Ebay part is it original. pls advise the link. What about the required tools?
Thanks

Hi everyone i rooted my phone last night for the first time with LeeDroid, all that seemeed to happen was that it went back to the way i got the phone in the first place
I dont have Market, and if im honest i have no idea what to do
Can anyone help at all please ?
Thanks

Would i be better just downloading the 2.4 rom and trying that ?
How will i know that the ROM is installed correctly as like i said before it just seems like a new phone i got straight out the box ?

Honest answer , dont know
i think i rooted it correctly using Revoked, or it appeared like it did
in the software info on the phone it has this which to me means nothing but to someone it will
android 2.2
kernel version
2.6.32.15_leedroid_2.3 [email protected] # 1
software number
LeeDroid_V2.3d
Can you help ? thanks
That is a successful flash mate by the looks of it. Of course you lose all apps and settings after flash, and as far as I know leedroid is a sense Rom, so it looks very similar to what you got out of the box, but now you can mod it and flash different kernels and scripts, like data2ext.
Oh, and regarding market, just search for market apk and install it the way you'd install any app.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
LeeDroid looks and feels like a stock rom but with added extra bits, and speed.
you can overclock or underclock with setcpu run rooted apps.
the good thing about LeeDroid is that it looks familiar so it's a good starter rom to play about with. if you want something other than sense try a Miui rom or Redux.
Ive got 2.4 now but i have 2 issues
1. the market force closes when i select an app
2. when adding the htc people widget it lists no people in where they usually
Thanks
Now my SD card is saying Mounted Read only ?
any ideas ?
did you make an ext partition and a full wipe?
I don 't have any issues with this rom
Yes and i just tried to go back to delete and redo a new partition but its not showing only my pc is ???
i just reset it and now im getting the leedroid background i wasnt getting before , ive had to setup everything back from the beginning , facebook passwords etc
market is now working but im still getting the mounted read ony error
Either corrupt card or bad partitioning. Just partition it in recovery and search for ext align tool on Baadnewz blog. Google is your friend.
If partitioning doesn't help, try different card.

ok sorted that last issue but how will i know if ive partitioned the sd card correctly ?
ive got a 16gb one and it says total space 13.75 & available space 13.47gb
and on the internal it only says 129mb
why is this ?
What was the fix for the last issue? If you don't provide full info we won't know where it could have fine wrong.
Sent from InsertCoin 2.0.1
tinky i partitioned it as you said in recovery but then i couldnt get past the loading screen with the joker on it aftwerwards
So i went back into recovery and i had to do a restore that was the only way i got it working and the memory card issue also vanished
Now its working properly should i backup my current ROM in ROM manager ?
what else do i need to do to make sure i dont **** it up in future ?
Also how will i know if ive partitioned the sd card correctly ?
ive got a 16gb one and it says total space 13.75 & available space 13.46gb
and on the internal it only says 116mb
How much space you assigned to ext? Also, not all roms support ext4, so if you did use align tool, then quite possibly that your Rom just can't see ext partition. Solution, partition again but this time don't use align tool which will convert any ext partition to ext4.
Regarding not loading after partitioning that is sort of expected, restore done the trick for you. Regarding not getting into this situation again, once you get it right just use recovery to do nandroid and ext backup, and keep it safely on pc, in case you need to change SD card. Then you just partition new card and do restore.

Anyone having issues on the latest Leedroid 2.4 with apps that have been updgraded from in-app billing?
Have one app (quota) which is now disabled due to the fact that the upgrade is now in progress whereas it worked fine on 2.3d.
The app dev suspects it is ROM and market related as other stock ROM users haven't had the same issue.
I'm having real trouble with installing these roms.(insertcoin 1.0.8 and rcmixS V2.0)
What I've done so far.
Rooted with unrevoked.
Created ext3 partition using gParted.
Successfully installed rom to working.
To get it working, I have to revert to my stock backup and then copy over the top of the data etc.
Problems once working:
1) Mail app refuses to connect to active sync server and pull down mail, I've reverted to my stock backup and copied the settings to the letter and it still refuses to connect and get the mail
2) Contacts, HTCContacts will not display my contacts or let me access their cards, however shows their details in call log including FB picture.
I want to wipe everything and do it from scratch, however I get stuck on the wallpaper and notification bar and it won't load the rest of sense so it's completely unusable.
I know my ext3 partition works correctly as I've installed loads of apps etc when i got it working and quick system info registered my partition of 1gb ext3.
Try to clear storage from hboot, and flash the latest radio the last thing worked for me
You mate, are a blooming genious, I've been pulling my hair out wiping it from clockworkmod and it was such a simple fix, thank-you so much.

I think the second one, clearing storage doesn't help maybe in 1 out of 100 cases
latest radio is very important with InsertCoin
But do it before you flash a radio
Atleast i did

I'm happy for you that you managed to do it, it looks like a simple fix, but it's one of the things that can brick your device easily so be careful when you flash radio's, always charge you battery full if you'll ever have to do it again(not that it will use up all of it just for safety)
Fyi, I used clear storage. I'm still on stock radio and hboot.

Hello everyone, I'm having a problem with my Data connection on my Tmobile-G2 after flashing new custom rom from stock.
My internet connection seems fine but even after a fresh flash I still cannot use my data. It seems to be a problem with a setting of some sort seeing as on 3 different ROMs this is happening. On the top i see my full H perfectly stable, and even in settings showing working data. But when opening apps I see "error - connection timed out)
(Could someone direct me with exactly how to flash a new radio, PC10IMG.zip on SD card and going into bootloader doesn't work, it simply says image/file not found. I have put the "PC10IMG.zip" into the root of my SD but on bootloader it does not recognize it. I've put both the .img file and zip filed renamed to "PC10IMG.zip" and "PC10IMG" and none of those variations work)
Current Radio : -12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M-
Currently on Virtuous Sense v2.0.0 (MD5:b11fa8b0aaf14221f259a88efcfef978)
which is the best radio for TMOUS g2? I haven't gotten a chance to try.
Cheers, any help greatly appreciated.
If you poke around in the development forum for the G2, you can find guides for all of those things you are asking about! I'd post a few links I know where to find instantly, but alas I am on my phone.
Did you do a complete wipe of your phone through recovery before flashing that custom rom from stock? That may be your only problem there. Hopefully you did a nandroid backup - if so, revert to it in CWM and check that everything works.

Hello all guys!
Thank you a lot for the work that are you doing, sharing to all of us how we can make our phones free...
Recently i found xda-forums and because i own a wildfire, i wanted to make it better.
I started reading and i learned how to make things better... S-off my phone, rooted, completly wipe internal memory and flash a new rom. All good.... i had GPS problems first time, but i managed to fix it... anyway... Now i have a REAL PROBLEM...
A few days ago i flashed CyanogenMod7 nightly #232, after a full wipe. All good, but now i can't use it because data connection kills it... it doesn't matter what i do, but when i try to use browser/e-mail/market or any app that uses internet the same thing happens: reboot or power down.
I restored my stock froyo nandroid wich i had, same thing... Anybody knows a way to fix it??? please help me out, tethering phone's data connection was my getaway, but now it reboots my phone...
Here are my phone specs:
Phone: HTC Buzz Wildfire
S.OFF:Revolutionary
Hboot:[6.01.1002]
Recovery: [v.5.0.2.0] ClockworkMod Recovery
ROM: [2.3.7] CyanogenMod7-NIGHTLY-buzz #232
Kernel:[2.6.35.14]-nFinity [email protected] #1
Radio: [13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10]
OC: SmartAssV2 min:[264]Mhz max:[691]Mhz
Jit=yes
VM Heap size: 32m
Help!
Edit: flashed the previous CM7 kernel (2.6.32) -> nothing happens
reflashed radio, still nothing... flashed 3.35.19.25 radio... still nothing...
Edit 2: now i see that if i connect phone to power socket, stays awake... i can use internet only with the phone. tethering still reboots my phone...
Final edit: Problem solved, i sent the phone to the sellers and after a failed attempt (where they thought that a sw update and a screen protector can make me happy), they figured out that all the phone needed is a new battery... they sent me the new one, and now all works just fine... i'm happy again, now i'm searching new tweaks for the BuzzFire... thx all who tried to help me out , special thx to 3xeno
Anyone can help? Desperate user here, guys!!! I'll pray for you... i just search for an answer but i cannot find a thread with the same issue or something close to it... Pleaseee!!!

Does it reboot when you just turn the dataconnection on? and are you using v6turbocharger or the 3gturbocharger scripts?
Some options:
1. Reflash radio file to your phone
2. Get a official release of cyanogenmod
3. Make sure you wipe data/cache/dalvik before you flash the rom
Hope this helped, if it did please press the thanks button!

Now after a full wipe i have restored only Boot.img and System.img from my original Froyo nandroid backup, so basically i belive that could be a fresh install of the original Sense Froyo... the kernel is the original Htc kernel... but i still have the same problem... phone get killed after enabling data connection... i don't know why phone acts like this... since i am a noob... i try all the suggestions... even for me sounded strange... anyway... i choose the RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3. 35.15.31_release_130814_signed.exe, since i don't know what i had in my phone when i bought it, and i don't want to use a Froyo RUU because i'm afraid i won't be able to S-OFF and root my phone again... but another question... If i have HBoot:6.01.1002, the RUU is able to downgrade the HBoot, or i have to make it myself?... thx @3xeno... in advance... i hope this will solve my phone disease...
Edit: When i bought it, the phone had Sense 2.1 Eclair, but i made the 2.2.1 in-phone software update (dhaaaa)... i'm happy i managed to s-off it after that... and i didn't used AlpharevX (i had no idea at that time), i used "revolutionary-0.4pre4"...
You can use a Froyo RUU (WWE 2.22.405.1). The HBoot will not be touched. (You will lose Clockworkmod Recovery though, but, since you know how to use Fastboot, it shouldn't be an issue at all I am assuming). Also, your device, except the SDCard, will be formatted, so make sure you have your important stuff backed up.

I learned this things thx 2 u... i have backups... fastboot... now i have to download the RUU... i'll tell you if it works in a couple of days... i have a poor bandwidth ( +>- 5KBps)... i'll pray to all the Gods i know (i'm christian but doesn't matter, maybe my God doesn't now a shee about ANDROID) ... i'll make you know if it worked, if not, i'll apply the RUU, downgrade Hboot, and i will go in the shop where i bought the phone and ... i'll make it pieces in front of the sellers... or request for warranty... am i correct?
Yes, do that, definitely if the RUU method doesn't work as well.
Anyway, it doesn't matter my data... if the phone doesn't work as it should, i don't think data is so important... data is a thing that can be refound... a phone with unknown issue.. is a really phookin' problem... the incredible thing is the fact that the phone works quite well without data connection... rarely app FC's, smooth UI... i'm amazed... did'n tried wifi... i will... maybe will work...

sorry for stressing you with questions... assuming that i may have some little knowledge (i think) about android and wildfire... let's say that RUU does his job... but what really does an RUU?? Rom update utility... removes clockworkmod+ performs a fresh install of an original HTC rom+ sometimes upgrades or downgrades HBOOT+S-on's the phone...
this stuff we can do it via Fastboot and adb... I have my original rom... i backed it up when i thought that AOSP ROM is something that definetly phone needs ( well i can say that: yes... it needs... <3 CM7NB)
so... if i "advanced" restore my Sense nandroid (only boot+system) after a full and complete wipe( i performed the wipe via clockworkmod-->mounts and storage--> all "format" options+ yes + wipe Dalvik cache + reboot in HBOOT -clear storage= phone boots and reboots in HBOOT... cuz there's no boot or operating system)... it means i have the original stock froyo... without configurations and stuff like that... am i correct?
Yes you can do that, but with an RUU, you are practically guaranteed a clean install. It's a good way to point out where exactly an issue potentially lies.

That's the point... ( linked to my phone issue)... if it's not the kernel or the radio or the custom recovery... remains the hboot... in your opinion can this be the problem?? sorry if i'm stressing you again...let's make this thread useful and discuss all the aspects... for the future, in case that this can be useful for all the community of XDA... maybe is pointless... but i wanna learn, and this is a verry good subject to discuss(i think)
While i wait that RUU to download (14% of 130+MB)
I think that since my nandroid is clean...(btw... i made a factory reset before making the Stock Froyo nandroid) and i know that data connection worked before and after... it just doesn't make sense for me why the RUU can fix things...
Sorry, but I am not so technically proficient as to go in depth and explain stuff, because, I myself don't know about it. I suggested something that has been known to work for others, and, it stays just that - a suggestion. It's totally upto you what you wish to do, what you wish to experiment etc. Its your device and your wish.
Hopefully, someone with in-depth knowledge of how stuff works can explain these to you.

Sorry, but I am not so technically proficient as to go in depth and explain stuff, because, I myself don't know about it. I suggested something that has been known to work for others, and, it stays just that - a suggestion. It's totally upto you what you wish to do, what you wish to experiment etc. Its your device and your wish.

yeah... if someone can explain, or i'll keep search for it till i find the explanation myself... man, thx for your advices (not suggestions) as i know that you understand more than i do this things, at the end i am a beginner in Android, also in XDA, i don't try to be rude or disrespect anyone, and most of all, i don't want my questions to be seen as stupid questions... i am a user that wants to know more...
Thx for your time and advices man!!! God Bless you!!
RUU installed, but issue not resolved
Bad news... looks that the RUU (2.22.405.1) did remove the custom recovery, flashed new radio and flashed the stock Froyo rom... didn't touch the hboot... but my phone is not cured... still dies few seconds after i enable data... i'll try to downgrade the Hboot to 1.01.0001 S-ON to see if the problem is resolved, if not, i think it may be a hardware problem and i hope i can send it for a warranty intervention... God!!! Why are you doing this to me?!!
I had it wrong doesn't matter.
-I have true s-off, permaroot and superCID
-ENG hboot and CWM work fine
-can successfully load and run ROMs
Device no longer sees a SIM card, yet been testing various ROMs for over 6 months with this handset.
I've taken it apart , and SIM slot looks ok.
I've tried eft wipe, superwipe, all my working nandroids, updated radio (currently running cm9/aokp40) to no avail.
Can anyone point me to how I can determine whether this is a S/W or H/W issue?
I'm leaning towards downgrading to stock/s-on then repeating the unlock to re-set my unlocked status for lack of any other options.
While googling not finding much if anything on radio data, so thanks in advance.
IF this is S/W based and you can help to fix I've a working TP2 in box as a reward/incentive.
If I am not mistaken the newer Roms need a newer SIM card, i.e.: the older ones (I think like 3-5 years old) won't be recognized with say the new radio (*.19)
I'm not sure what the new # is, but mine has 39.01a on the side, and works with the latest radio and CM9, EliteMod ICS, etc.
EDIT: But that might only refer to T-Mobile, not sure how it is with Fido/Rogers.

Food for thought thanks, the SIM stopped being recognized after having flashed the "no service fix" update to this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749445 and have asked in that thread whether anything in the fix file could've set something off on my device.
IT IS an older SIM that I'm using but up to now have used every ROM with it without a hitch. I'll downgrade the radio now as an option.

I noticed that it said "only for 2.7.13", though that seems to be specifically for a version of MUIU.
though when I unpack the fix :
Code:
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "vision" || getprop("ro.build.product") == "vision");
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p25", "/system");
package_extract_dir("system", "/system");
unmount("/system");
Which basically only verifies that the phone is a HTC Vision (as per existing build.prop), mounts the /system partition, then extracts the package's content of /system to your rom
in this case a single file:
/system/framework/framework-res.apk
So from just that, I can't really see the fix having a prolong effect on all your other roms, unless you failed to do a full wipe (factory reset and wipe cache/dalvik cache in recovery before flashing a brand new rom).
This is the only thing I've changed in framework-res.apk:
Code:
<bool name="skip_restoring_network_selection">false</bool>

right but even that change would be completely wiped out if he wiped/changed roms, so would have to be another factor that caused it.

Yes. Maybe it's just coincidence..
But I hope there is a fix for that problem.
Sounding like my SIM slot at this point then. But I didn't just flash the fix on its own. I first flashed the updated zip from later in the thread that included the fix w/the complete ROM. Wonder if anyone else has tried that file?

Maybe nothing to do with this but was using Elitemod/CM9/AOKP before flashing and "su" reported that it needed to close. I'D been experiencing few FCs with that ROM installed.
Didnt thing this would affect it once rebooted to CWM.

Can you be more specific on the EliteMod part, are you simply talking bout the EliteMod ICS rom, or putting EliteKernel on top of a CM9 or AOKP port? (if just the rom, I'm not aware of a 'fix' that was meant for EliteMod).

Are you saying you used a fix from one rom (light) with another rom (elitemod)? I'm not getting very clear information from you just bits and pieces.
to clarify

LOL - bit of a noob here though not that bad, so no I didn't mix fixes/ROMs :highfive:
I was on latest Elitemod/CM9/AOKP
To be clear,
1 - I first flashed the file from post 74 in the thread that included the bugfixes and few enhancements to the original.
(So wondering whether there's something in that file, and yes it does include the fix)
----this is where "no sim inserted" occurs---
2 - when ROM came up good but no SIM, i reverted to my nandroids, trying each one of them.
3 - then tried full wipes with fresh ROM flashes
4 - then tried superwipe/efs wipe AND updated radio and tried each nandroid/fresh installs again
5 - now downgraded radio to what I had (minus the rils) and living with WIFI only connection til I can fix the SIM issue
btw "Elitemod/CM9/AOKP" are three different roms If you just mean EliteMod ICS just say that , helps reduce the confusion. (since some people do separately install AOKP or CM9 by itself, and then flash EliteKernel on top of those).
k, as for #1 when I originally read about the 'fix', that was for a completely different rom than EliteMod and course probably wouldn't work anyways.
Secondly with EliteMod ICS, I've found that I had to be on the .19 radio (note my signature) in order to boot up with it and manage both data and wifi connection, there was no need to 'patch' anything because nik3r already included the proper ril/data for the newest radio in the rom/kernel itself. And it doesn't matter if you're on either the G2 hboot (0.76.0000 I think) or the DZ hboot like I have, since it's not a sense rom or a rom of that size.
If you are on a functional phone right now (outside of the non-Wifi data connection of course), I would recommend upgrading your recovery to 4EXT recovery first (something like the 4EXT Touch Recovery 1.0.0.5 RC5 that can be installed from the app, the app itself is found in google play and can install the recovery for you, there is a free version of the app that I have if you simply want the installer but I Recommend the paid version since you can control most of it's preferences from the app before rebooting into recovery).
From there (assuming you have everything you need backed up to the computer including say any titanium backup files):
Just to knock out a number of possibilities will just act like we're going to do a 'full' setup, assuming that 1) You are already using an ENG S-OFF hboot and 2) have already upgraded the radio to the latest .19 version
1) re-partition the SD card via 4EXT (I recommend a 2GB sd-ext, skipping the sd-ext2 and skipping swap), so that's freshly setup [that and if you chose to use the dataswap mod for EliteMod the 2GB sd-ext is needed to compliment it, never make a sd-ext less than ~1.5GB in size]
2) once you got that re-partitioned toggle the USB storage so you can copy back all the files you need including the rom files etc etc.
3) "Wipe/Format" menu to do
a) Factory Reset/Wipe
b) wipe cache+dalvik
c) Battery stats (cuz why the hell not, it *could* help lol)
4) No need to do an EFS wipe since the EliteMod rom zip does this for you upon installation, so Flashing the EliteMod Rom, then any optionals (Gtalk, google gallery, T-mobile wifi calling, DataSwap mod) on top of that.
PS: if you like to multitask active apps quite a bit (i.e.: background notifications etc), I would recommend the 64MB Dataswap mod at the very least, especially with all that free space you'll have on /data partition from the use of an sd-ext partition.
5) Reboot, once fully booted, reboot again
6) check connectivity for both SIM/Wifi/Etc.
If you're *still* having problems, even after physically pulling the sim out, blowing some dust out, or whatever you can and putting it back in, I'd start to wonder if 1) the sim is too old for whatever reason [ie: with whatever update], 2) the sim got damaged [maybe via some kind of sim update?], or 3) the sim slot is maybe damaged? 4) or the universe just hates you right now.

PS: I highly recommend Titanium Backup, it's been very useful in flashing a fresh clean rom, but then being able to restore most of my applications with their settings/data intact.

Yes understood that the "fix" was a trivial patch and that it pplies only to the MIUI multilang version in question - trust me I would not have mixed those two up. I opted to first flash the version from the later post since it included app/framework enhancements WITH the "no service fix"
Yes I was on Elitemod ICS (AOKP base) with modified CM9 kernel. Sorry for that confusion.
I'd previously used Elitemod AND AOKPs with my old radio with no issues whatsoever. never had to tweak a thing.
FWIW I'm on hboot .84.2000 ENG s-off and yes using clockworkmod recovery
I'd like to try 4ext - looking into it now.
Appreciate the help.
Maybe I'll put this on hold til I get a new sim from FIDO...

Yea the issue in general sounds just weird overall, hopefully it'll get resolved one way or another.

Indeed - still hoping that there's someone that can offer a method of testing to see whether its a H/W issue. Must be somethng in adb and/or bootlogs? Perhaps in the bootloader for Radio.
well reading over this thread have you tried another sim? your sim in another phone? you can run some very simple tests in the diagnostics menu. go to dialer and type *#*#4636#*#*
go into phone info and play around with turning radio on and off and gsm only etc to see if anything appears ok. the best ways to test software/firmware or hardware faliure you seem to have tried, wipe fully, flash new rom, new radio...
I guess you can always try to unroot? if it still won't work then my guess is hardware

thx for the suggestions
Have my sim working in my backup phone and works in every other phone I've tried. Yes have also tried airplane mode on/off data on/off - etc...
Did try to unroot yesterday but ran out of time, had to run off to work.
Want to do it right so will try again today as I've a bit more time.
playing with diagnostics menu now thanks.
