Two Questions That Hopefully You Guys Can Help Me With. - HTC One V

Okay I am on an HTC One V through Alltel CDMA, and I have gone through the list of stock roms that I could "flash" to my phone to go back to a stock RUU, but none of them are Alltel, the closest one is Sprint, but it has different radios included with it, and I don't know how that would effect my service with alltel, albeit the bands are close in range ones .524_2 the other is .521.
But I am unsure what could happen if I was to flash the Sprint RUU, and was curious as to if anyone could get there hands on an Alltel RUU.
Also, when I seemed to unlock my bootloader/install SuperSU, for some reason my APN settings got all messed up and I have to enter them manually after a factory reset before I can even send MMS messages through my carrier, but also somehow unlocking/rooting my phone has caused my video messages I get sent to be split into two files, one .gif image and an .amr audio file, and no matter what I try, I haven;t found a solution to fixing that issue, thats really annoying, does anyone have any idea, or can offer any help to fix one of the two? I have a feeling if i can find a stock RUU, that the Video MMS problem should be fixed.
Thanks in advance for any help hat can be given.

Please post questions in the Q&A section. Moved there.

[Q] One X completely lost cellular signal!!! (HARDWARE FAULT???)

My SIM FREE European HTC One X (stock) half bricked by HTC update.
About a week ago my One X lost cellular signal completely, it doesn't recognize it's own IMEI and drains the battery in about half an hour .
This, according to HTC is because of an update the device got OTA and can only be fixed in their lab, they also say it's not an hardware issue.
The phone also reports that it's radio is off.
I'd like to avoid sending it to their lab cause of the cost and cause of customs issues.
I tried a bunch of things, the farthest I went was to run the RUU with no help.
I assume that flashing the radio image again or one of a previous version would help but I can't seem to figure out how to do it and if it's possible without hacking the device and/or losing it's warranty.
Looking for advice!
THANKS!!!
Tal.
Wasn't reading all the way. Never mind.
Flashing the radio isn't possible without the phone being s-off

OK, thanks, few questions:
1. Does RUU flashes the radio image?
2. I wasn't able to run a previous RUU, should it be possible?
3. If the phone works but there's something wrong with the radio image, It should be possible to reflash the radio image or the modem is in "brick" state?
Thanks!

I suggest you check the version of rom you are on and reflash the same RUU again. Beware this will reset your phone so save any data first. This will reflash everything including the radio.

Tried that, RUU doesn't fix the problem, I suspect that this version of radio image is no good and I need a previous one but I wasn't able to flash a previous version RUU, is it possible anyway?
Thanks!

Due to recent events with hardware faults found in One X's with WIFI signal I come to believe this is an hardware issue!
any update on this? im having exactly the same problems but because i have unlocked it htc are refusing to fix it.. "illegal software"!
I am contemplating flashing footballs new rom based on a test ruu that includes new drivers and new radio etc.. if anyone has had any similar problems but have managed to fix it i would greatly appreciate them sharng it.. i fear i am stuck with a htc ipod touch!

As time passes the thought that this is an hardware problem becomes stronger.
HTC probably knows it already but won't say it if it doesn't grow bigger (or explode!).
I think if you'd like your device fixed you should keep this issue in the headlines until all the sh*t floats.

[Q] HTC Software Number: 2.17.1900.1 710RD???

First I want to apologize that I am re-posting this in the general forum. I posted this originally in the Q&A but didnt get much help and dont know if this is useful in any way, but I am reposting it here as to see if anyone can possible shed some light on this, Again Mods and all I do apologize:
Greets all,
I have a question, I tried doing a search on google and on here but nothing is coming up thats useful, so sorry in advance for the post if i missed it because of not using the right keyword.
I have two HOX's, Long story short, I smashed my screen on my white one and sent it in to HTC to fix it, they did but they messed the phone up, so I sent it back and they fixed it, but looking at the phone, I think they changed my phone completely,. Mine the bootloader was unlocked and had a custom stock rom with root. Now my black one and my white one had the same Software Number under the software information section which the black one is: 2.17.401.2. (Black one X bootloader never unlocked or rooted)
But the white one they sent back to me has this: 2.17.1900.1 710RD.
everything else is exactly the same except for this numbering. I was expecting that I would have gotten back the phone the way I sent it back after they fixed it, but obviously its not, and before going and re-unlocking and rooting the phone, I wanted to know if this 2.17.1900.1 710RD meant anything or what region is this phone? Checked the bootloader and it says locked, so I dont know if this is a new phone, or they just locked it.
Looking at the serial number on the phone and the email in the correspondence the serial number matches, so that leads me to another question, can they take a new phone and change the serial number to match your prior phone if its not repairable? Plus this rom on my phone has a few apps on it that I havent seen at all on either phone like:
Dr. eye, easy card, KKBox, They also have Amazon MP3 in this rom too along with all the google apps, Movie, Music, etc.
The CID is the same as before: HTC__001 just like my black one. Both phones are international quad core phones, and I sent my white one to be repaired to the HTC in Houston TX.
Thanks to anyone that can shed light to this.
Here are two screenshots of the Software Number, and of the Bootloader.
View attachment 1464108
View attachment 1464109
Also under settings I have App Association.
Looks like you have a branded phone, but since your CID is HTC__001 you may be able to run an unbranded RUU
Sent from my locked, tampered ville
My original phone was not branded. And being that I have the cid of HTC__001 I don't think it's branded to anyone, but the software number is strange. I have not seen anyone with this number nor can I find anything on the web about this number.
Sent from my HTC One X.
Anyone?
Sent from my HTC One X
You sent it to a USA repair center, might be a modified One XL Rom?
The same here, I just got my phone and it has same software ! "2.17.1900.1 710RD" I just called them and they told me to call back after one hour !! to speak to the escalation department ...
and now I'm waiting to get an answer from them.
RD software numbers stands for "Research and Development". More like a "beta" in layman's terms.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
I just called the escalation department at HTC and they told me to send it back to get fixed.
Even though I told them that I can fix it by flashing the UK software but they told me that would avoid my Warranty!!
How stupid !!! My phone was there since August Now they want me to send it back ..!!
Any ideas ?
Well first if its a beta then this bring about a few questions:
1) why isnt the software update check updating it to the 2.17.401.2 software?
2) being that it was sent to a USA repair center is this a USA rom? being that we cant flash other roms.
3) Would RD roms also not have test keys under the more/build number instead of release keys?
And Modnet, they want you to send it back to them so they can fix it? Last I checked flashing an official RUU would not void your warranty. Mine I had unlocked the bootloader, and rooted the phone, so since my screen was smashed, all I could do was back up the phone, and then sent it to them as is, when I got it back, the bootloader was "Locked" and flashed this rom. I personally wouldnt send it back to them. But the curious thought here is, could there be something in this rom that might be useful to us in regards to S-Off, or easier rooting, since this could be a Research and Development rom as Skanob states and thats why they want it back? I know its a long shot but its a thought.
But even if this is a RD rom, is this a US rom or a UK rom? Cause IF its a US rom, being mine has the cid of HTC__001 and being of the UK region, it would show maybe how to get another region rom on to our phones? Brainstorming here as you can see
I can tell you one thing for sure, putting both phones together, my Black HOX which is untouched and my backup, the Cell Signal strength is better then the white one that they sent back to me, the black one is -87dBm 13 asu 4-5 bars, my white one is -91 dBm 11 asu 3 bars. Dont know if this is due to the current rom in my white one, or cause of the wire or prongs making contact on the phone.
Good thinking man ...
Contact htc with your imei number, and they should help you. Ota releases are based on imei numbers(according to htc) and if the RD rom they installed supports ota updates they will send you the update individually.
Edit: the official release for UK has not been released yet.
Sent from my HTC One X
Vcek, your looking for a JB release, yes you are correct its not released yet, but I am talking about the software update of 2.17.401.2. this was the last official update which brought 4.04 ICS, and Sense 4.1, My black one has this, my white one did also until now. The question still stands if this rom: 2.17.1900.1 710RD is a "Beta" then why isnt it being updated to the official 2.17.401.2 rom of ICS?
And again, if this is a US beta ROM, then could there be something in this rom that can show us how they flashed a US rom onto a UK device? Because the software numbering here from what I have tried to search for doesnt follow any rom numbering we have seen. I havent unlocked the bootloader or rooted the phone just yet, because I am trying to see if this can be of help to any of us in our goal of being able to flash different region roms without the need of S-Off.
This rom has put alot of thoughts in my head on how possibly to flash different region roms, but again its brainstorming based on what I am suspecting. I dont want to get rid of a rom, or do something to the phone, without knowing it could have helped us in some way, it would be a waste of a rom in the event HTC F-ed up putting this beta rom on at least me and modnet's phone.
Have you checked your bootloader? Something weird might be there too .

Already been done in the OPs other thread in Q&A - it's all correct and present with a locked bootloader.
My take, it's an internal ROM that shouldn't be on the phone. I'd just flash the 2.17.401.2 RUU and be done with it

I'd keep it, might get an early R&D JB
I said that because someone on the One S forums had a new HBOOT version of 1.33 and S-OFF, but not the stock ROM unfortunately, so couldn't see of it was an early JB lol

My main thought here is this truthfully:
Being that we all are trying to find ways to flash roms from other regions, if this is a USA Rom beta or not, maybe we could find how it was done so that we can do the same without the need of s-off, or having to flash kernels separately. I'm just trying to think outside the box. And the other question is if my boot loader was unlocked and if I relocked it and it would say relocked, how did they get it to say locked?
Maybe my thinking is far fetched, but maybe it's not. That's why I'm trying to make the right people aware.

Based on the fact that there is very little interest in this rom , I am going to assume nothing can be used to help us, so based on that I will root and unlock my hox for daily use and put the official 2.17.401.2 rom in its place tomorrow.

HTC One M9 cant update software ver. 1.32.651.30 to anything better

Hi guys, I am writing this from Bogota Colombia, My problem as mentioned before its that I cant update my phone cuus I bought it here in Bogota. I have spoken with customer service for Latam and they told me I have one HTC One M9 from sprint. My phone have the S-OFF and its locked. They tell me that I have to restore the security back ON and then I may download a RUU from sprint to be able to update it. But that its something I dont really want to do, as I dont want to set the S back ON nor do I want to update from Sprint. Anyone know of an international ruu I can use, or perhaps one for South America?
I read that i have to root my phone to be able to download some RUU that I can use here but to be able to do that I have to unlock the loadboot I have the unlocktoken from HTCDev but before I use it I want to ask you guys for advice as what should I do. I read that its a good idea to back up the EFS file (for obvious reasons) but not sure how to do it.
Here in Bogota I haven`t found anyone able to help me.
Thanks for any help and please dont mind any spell and grama errors.

You can keep S-OFF. There is no need to revert to S-ON since RUUs and OTAs don't check the security status of the phone. Either download the latest 651 RUU from HTC and use the *.exe file or head to the ReadMe thread, extract the *.zip from the *.exe and flash it via the SD card method that is described in that thread.
Be aware that you have no choice when it comes to picking a RUU. Sprint is a CDMA carrier and the CDMA variants of the M9 have a different partition layout than the GSM versions. You can't even flash other CDMA RUUs (e.g. from Verizon) without damaging your phone.

Thanks for the advice, I will download the RUU and see if it works, but one question what should I do to be able to recover my phone in case anything goes wrong? What would you suggest to use for back up my phone? i mean the efs files so I dont lose my IMEI and other data? thanks
You don't need to unlock your bootloader or root your phone for being able to flash a RUU. And to be honest, I never had to backup any efs files. That might be necessary for other Android devices but not for HTC ones.
Edit: Oh, and be aware that a RUU will erase all personal data on your phone. So backup important messages, contacts, pictures, etc...

Just to let you know that it worked pretty well, I have now one update HTC One M9 thanks to you! .

A little stuck with unlocked & S-off sprint HTC 10. I want it on T-mobile

Hi gang,
I have a Sprint HTC 10 that I completely S-Offed, Unlocked, and formatted with nothing left except the recovery. I have TWRP 3.1.0-0-pme installed for recovery. I had changed the CID to SuperCID 11111111 and now I'm trying to install a stock T-Mobile RUU so I can get the T-mobile radio with the latest T-Mobile build.. it seems like it won't work though. When I run the T-Mobile RUU while the phone is in download mode, it starts work but then it says that I need to download and use the correct recovery tool.. I'm assuming that this is talking about a Sprint RUU. Am I only allowed to stick with custom roms on this but use the default Sprint radio that's already on the phone? Does it matter for VoLTE and WiFi-Calling on T-mobile? Will it deter my speed? Here's some screenshots of the information I have for the phone.
Basically, I just want to be able to use the phone with T-Mobile. I figured S-Off would allow me to adjust the radio for that of T-Mobile.
btw, I had that decryption issue that popped up and I completely wiped all of the system data since I couldn't find "user data" like some posts had said.. I'm not worried though, I made a complete backup using TWRP before I wiped and used the special SuperSU tailored for this phone. I also sunshine S-Offed while the Bootloader was unlocked.. could that have been my issue? It stated that I would've had to format the "user data" folder, but I didn't think much of it because I was going to install stock T-Mobile on it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best,
Johnnie

Your gonna have to change the mid to T-Mobiles mid. Not sure if the phone will actually work like T-Mobile seeing how sprint is CDMA and not GSM. Why don't u just try putting the Tmobile sim in and switch setting to global mode? See what works as u may brick your device by trying to convert it to a T-Mobile device. Honestly you should read through some threads and see if someone has all ready accomplished this.

Follow this guide,

It's not as straightforward as simply flashing the tmobile ruu.
Thanks Tarima. I'm going to follow this today and will report back. Well at least I got half way there. This is the price you pay when you simply don't wanna pay. Amiright? But seriously thank you. I missed that thread

No worries, ya the Sprint variant is a pain in the ass to mess around with.
I'd also like to thank twinnfamous for his or her reply as well. I knew that the MID would probably have something to do with it at some point. The first thing i need to do is i guess put an accepting ROM on the phone first before I can do it. I think I'll take my chances on trying to go straight T-mo even for a CDMA device. I'll definitely post some updates on my progress after i check out Tarima's privided thread. No guts no glory.
I am using a sprint 10 on T-Mobile. You can use the T-Mobile RUU or the US unlocked RUU. The US unlocked seems to get the most updates.
But, before you do this you need to unlock the sim port in nvram and backup the radio,modemst1, and modemst2 partitions. Again this must be done while sprint software installed.
After flashing desired RUU flash back the 3 backed up partitions above.
You will not get volte nor Wi-Fi calling on this configuration. Maybe after the merger?
If you make the mid and cid match a real device and keep a stock recovery you can take OTA updates. If you lose service after reflash the sprint radio again and you are back in business.

You will not get volte nor Wi-Fi calling on this configuration. Maybe after the merger?
If you make the mid and cid match a real device and keep a stock recovery you can take OTA updates. If you lose service after reflash the sprint radio again and you are back in business.

Hi Bootlooper.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to look through this guide that Tarima sent me in order to back up those partitions you were mentioning. Today I just unlocked the sim.. this is the log I got, sound about right?
Log message: > SPC is correct. Phone unlocked
Reading NV-items, in range of: 30159 (0x75CF) - 30159 (0x75CF)
Done.
Writing NV-items from a file:
Done.
I'm assuming I have to change the MID in order to flash the T-mobile RUU because currently I'm unable to do that. Unable to flash any RUU for that matter, but I haven't tried the Sprint one yet.. not necessary for me at the moment.
Wow. This is legit process.
Does Nandroid Backup *root* allow me to backup hidden partitions for the modem? I'm starting to see how this works.. I was searching the forums for a list of the MID for each carrier. I guess the US Unlocked MID is 2PS62500. The sprint MID is 2PS640000. Anyone know what the T-Mobile MID is?
It might be a good idea to stick with just the US developer RUU instead of T-Mobile's RUU.
Has anyone actually tried to flash the HTC 10 modem at all? Or does anyone happen to have an HTC 10 T-Mobile Modem firmware/ baseband img? I'm willing to try and flash once I figure out how to backup the modem partitions.
Best,
Johnnie
T-Mobile cid T-MOB010 mid 2PS650000
Us unlocked cid BS_US001 mid 2PS650000
I have been searching for how to back up radios and have come up empty. Will try to figure after I get home. If you flash one of the RUU ps6img to SD card. it won't overwrite the radios and cause you to lose simunlock. Look in the stock forum for this. You can update firmware using any file that doesn't include a radio.

Thanks so much Bootlooper. I'll be messing with this for the next few days. I'll give an update if I come across anything in particular.

Need help restoring factory specs

So I bought this 'new' phone with the intention of rooting it and got to the point of updating to the latest firmware before root. turns out the phone is already 'modified'. contacted htc support looking for a means to restore factory specs but they say it has been rooted and it'll take another 2-3 days before i can further pursue the issue.
wondering if someone here can enlighten me as to how i'd restore stock before i re-root (there's no telling what mischief the rooter was up to). it was pretty easy on my old samsung with odin but this is my first htc so i'm in unknown territory here. the phone is in an otherwise impeccable state so i'm not really bothered about returning it since i can't imagine anything that might survive a factory reflash.
a little guidance would be much appreciated!
Take a look at the ReadMe thread. The RUU section most likely contains everything you need. I personally recommend the SD card method. It's the easiest and most fail-safe one.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
Been poring through it but frankly it is overwhelming. Wonder if you could answer a few noob questions.
1. the ruu section says not to re-lock the bootloader. will flashing an ruu re-lock the bootloader?
2. found my ruu which seems to be a sprint cdma version (sku:651). however the cid (SPCS_001) does not match with mine (11111111). not sure where to find the MID. where does this mismatch leave me?
3. will flashing the sprint cdma fw lock my carrier (ie prevent me from using other sim cards)
4. does the ruu rewrite/restore all of the partitions e.g. including recovery? (considering an unknown person has rooted and tinkered with the phone).

Yes, you can. Follow-up questions are always welcome. (In contrast to questions that obviously show that people were too lazy to read anything. )

No. Re-locking the bootloader requires the usage of a certain fastboot command.

Your phone currently uses the SuperCID. That CID had a whole bunch of benefits on older HTC devices. It lost most of them on the M9, though. Changing the CID is only possible with S-OFF. I highly recommend you to use the conversion guide for restoring your phones original CID. (CDMA versions of the M9 can't get converted to different variants without breaking them. If you're able to get mobile reception with that phone then it didn't get converted and you definetely own a Sprint M9. You don't have to look for the MID in this case.)

I can't answer that question since sim locks don't exist in the European firmware versions of this phone and I therefore don't have much experiences with them.

Yes, it does. RUUs overwrite everything on your phone with their files.
thank you for taking the time!

definitely a sprint m9 then. i wonder if they're rooting/unlocking sim-locked sprints and reselling them as unlocked phones.
will have to confirm the sim lock detail with htc support either way. but it's starting to look like i may have to return the phone. disappointing but at least rooting and flashing a genuine one is gonna be a breeze now
