Good morning,
I have a question to know which rom should I download, what with a2sd or the other? I have a "partition" sd-ext4 ...
Thank you.
since u have an ext4 sd card partition.....it is recommended u download the one wth a2sd to use that partition as a supplement for internal memory
remember after installing rom with a2sd to do a2sd install (y/n/y)..............

The non a2sd ROM uses INT2EXT automatically and will therefore make use of your ext partition for installing apps.

well i feel init2ext slows down the device

Is there any desire roms out there that doesnt require a ext partition these days?
I just want a custom rom without the need to always use that one sd card to boot and im not really much of an app user anyway.
a lot of the apps2sd roms will go on without an ext partition - but you'll just have limited space, usually about 73-130mb of the internal storage...
Looking in the android development thread it seems that most of them listed ext partiton as a requirement due to parts of system files are also in the ext partition required to boot.
Check with the dev of the roms for apps2sd ones that you might like... I am sure I saw an 'apps2sd killer' script too once so you might be able to apply that
the 2.1 ROMS usually goes well whitout the app2sd but its highly recommended
try CM7
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Just delete the ext partition and the rom such as miui for example will detect that there is no extra partion an so will disable the a2sd scrript

If you do go down the road of partitioning as you put it
Save yourself some future hassle and purchase a class 10 memory card and read about changing your recovery program to 4Ext Recovery 2.1.0.
I'm a complete noob but managed to do it with a little forum trolling

Hey, I've been following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
I'm on Step 5 which is partitioning your SD card. My question is, do you need to do that? I am planning to get either an MIUI rom or a Cyanogen rom on my phone, so is it really nessesary?
Thanks in advance
I thing you need\nessesary\. Look recomends or something like.Sorry for my English.
Just read the requirements of the rom.... if it says you do then yes?! lol
Yeah it depends on the rom.. Just check the requirements for the one you want to use

I still dont get it :/ How much do I have to partition If I want this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957291
And for future purposes, where does it say?
Thanks :S
do not use gparted. its unnecessarily complicated. I recommend you to flash clockworkmod, or better RMD recovery (you can easily adjust the partition sizes in future) and use that. Give it 1GB EXT, 0MB Swap, the rest Fat32. If you have a smaller sdcard, 512MB EXT (thats the bare minimum for future rom usage), 0MB Swap, rest Fat32. Thats it.
Okay, I'm going to use ROM manager as it is the easiest! I'll set the ext to 512 and no partition.
Also, Do I need to wipe my SD card to do this?
And would that be fine to download MIUI XJ?
Thanks a lot for all your help, I really appreciate it
Everything will be wiped on ur sd card, so backup! For MIUI it will be enough. In the future learn how to use ADB shell - thats the real deal.
Good luck
Don't forget to hit the thanx button

I just wanted to say that for future partition changes and so, it is quicker and easier to use the recovery
I agree gparted is very easy to use. Look in the dev area for a step by step on how to use it. Using VM Player you don't even need to boot onto it.

Hello,
There are many answers to your problem. When I used cm9, I installed S2E, it was wonderful and I had 145 Mb free. Now with cm10 I'm using Data2sd (by jikantaru). You can also use Link2sd, or mount2sd, app2sd, etc.

I'm actually using SpeedDroid, which is the smoothest rom I found for my WFS. But S2E doesn't work (my SD card partition is done with CWM, 1Go EXT and 128Mo Swap). I tried A2SD++, Int2Ext+, Data2SD, no one work. I'll try Link2sd.
Thanks for your answer !

1. You need a data2sd script. You can try link2sd or S2E for CM just in case too.
2. There is a fully functional guide given in index which pics too. Refer to that, you can't just go wrong. Also you can use CWM to make a partition.. I recommend the tutorial one.

I am personally using int2ext+, the link is given in the thread of cm10 for marvel. It works fine and, as far as I can see, doesn't affect performance.

Do you have to ext your SD card in order to put apps on to it? I don't really want to partition my SD card tho!!
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
most custom roms require an ext partition to work, read the first post requirements for each rom, I'm assuming you're already rooted?
i don't know why you don't want to partition your sd card though...it's not very difficult. use gparted or 4ext recovery only (NOT minitool partition wizard, rom manager or clockworkmod recovery). search for guides.
you may need to flash a different script to move apps to sd-ext, but again this depends on the rom as many have it built in.
No I would if I had a bigger SD card coz I only have a 2gb one and my parents refuse to buy me a 32gb one so yea......

oh didn't realise the situation. how about 4, 8 or 16gb as compromise? i'm holding off a 32gb myself until they become much cheaper.
or try dgb rom as i think it's designed on purpose without an ext partition. you would need to be s-off with custom hboot to make the most of it.
Yes maybe and I am already running a ROM which is alright for the moment but I really want runny ROM but obviously that needs an ext. I am running hiapk sensefun ROM by djroobs which I am happy with at the moment. I will probably wait until they become cheaper as well
Sent from my HTC Desire using xda app-developers app
Yh ul need a bigger sdcard for runny rom, it needs 1gb ext 4 partition on ur sdcard and the rom itself from what i remember is 500mb (its huge)
Like eddie says, Even if u try get ur parents to buy ya a 4gb sdcard, they cheap enough and 4gb is plenty if u ask me
Sent from my HTC Desire
Thanks guys I will give it a crack or just try and buy it myself. Thing is tho atleast 500 mb of my SD is music and that's not all of the music I want LOL

Yep, I ran Oxygen for a long time with a small 2 gb card and it worked just fine. To be fair 4, 8 are now dead cheap and it will allow you to run the heavier roms that need 1gb ext.

Because they don't make working partitions. Compatibility issues, i think.
Hi all,
Sorry - I know you get a lot of "which is best" but I've been going around in circles looking at all the different ROMS
My needs:
Wifeys's phone keeps running out of memory.... the old story
want to replace the std ROM with one excluding bloatware
want to use apps2SD to make best use of limited space
Need a Stable ROM not the latest and greatest, just a fast stable ROM (Android version doesn't matter - she'll be using it for photos, mail, txt and facebook)
Don't want to be updating it in future - just one stable ROM to put on and forget.
Please could you offer suggestions
Many thanks in advance

I am in the exact same situation but I do have the marvelc (MetroPCS). I have tried MESSYSENSE and insink71's ROM but don't know enough to disable the A2SD scripts on my own. I have the bootloader unlocked, but S-ON; installed clockworkmod recovery, and upgraded to hboot 1.10.
I have a 4GB sdcard which I want to partition in 3GB FAT32 and have 1GB internal memory.
My wife wants me to spend $100+ in one of the newer phones but for what she uses the phone for the Wildfire S with 1GB internal memory would really make her happy and save me some dough! So I guess a stock ROM with init.d and rooted should do the trick once I run CRONMod INT2EXT+
Help please!

Doing it now, it's stuck in the first HTC screen, the one that displays HTC in bright green, before it goes into the the softer green font and displays the carrier. That's where it takes a long time or on the one after?
518MB primary partition formatted in EXT3, about 3.2GB in FAT32, primary and first partition. Installed your ROM after full wipe, ran the script and formated sd-ext like it says. Boot loop, after the MetroPCS logo it reboots back into the HTC quietly brilliant splash screen. What the heck could be happening???? I'm S-ON but unlocked. Could that be it?
I can confirm it's the script because I flashed only your ROM and the phone booted OK. Will try running the script again after 1 boot to see if that works. The only thing left to try is that the OP of CRON's thread says that some phones have problems and to mount /system before flashing the scripts.
No luck, boot loop. One thing that I don't understand is why doesn't is why programs like Link2SD cannot see my sd-ext partition. Could that be it?

I've tasted a few roms since I rooted my wildfire S and I have the same answer for everyone that looks for a stable rom:
- WildJOY joyOS There haven't found any bug at all on it and it's quite smooth. The only "problem" is that if you don't like iPhones this interface is not for you.
