There's some sort of bug on my Epic 4G Touch phone that's driving me crazy. Whenever I receive a message that's longer than 160 characters from the Verizon network, it turns the message into a jumble of unreadable symbols. This happens ONLY with the Verizon network. My phone used to run CM9 Beta 1, but I flashed back to stock GB in an attempt to resolve this problem. My phone is flashed to PagePlus using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575749
Any help will be appreciated!!
I first thought it was that emergency test text, but man, I have not seen that before...
Are you running a modded prl?
Epic4GT with different ROMs every few days. Thanks Devs!
Its happened to me for both Sprint and Verizon. Pretty much CDMA. The sender needs to make sure their messages are split and not go past 160 characters.
It'll always show up like that for someone else as well, if I don't split the message when I send.

This looks like androidese to me, these are secret text messages sent from "The Android", in order to understand you need to take the "green pill" and once you have the vision of the "Odin", it is then and only then that you will be able to read the "secret text message".

@monkeybone: I used to run a modded PRL that was for Sprint phones running on pageplus, but after I encountered this problem, I reverted back to the prl to the one on this page: kittywireless.com/pageplus/pageplusmanualprogramming.html
@naripsta: Surely if this happened for all sprint phones running on pageplus, there would be more complaints? I find it really frustrating to tell half of my contact list they can't send me texts over 160 characters long.
Is there a way to completely reset everything on my phone to stock? ODIN-ing to EL29 does not change any phone settings such as the PRL.

Have you tried Odin back to EL26? I thought doing that did in fact reset the prl. No other methods I'm aware of for our phone.

I have a same problem too. I thought it was just me. I am almost certain that I saw a fix somewhere for this but I haven't came across it again. I'm just living with it. I don't get too many texts. It does frustrate the other side when they have to split. I usually manually split all my messages. It's not that hard I guess. It still sucks.
im having the same problem on my epic touch but man that was a funny solution i took a blue bill it didnt work only got a stiffy
Its a problem that needs fixed

Just to chime in I have the same problem. I am on Verizon as well. I dont think there is a "fix" for it. I think there might be an option in some of the 3rd party apps to automatically split msgs longer than 160 characters. Maybe that will work.
Im so glad to see that I'm not the only person with this problem. I thought it was just me. What I never understood is why it does it. It wont display the msg if its longer than 160 characaters but it will display symbols that are greater than 160 characters. Go figure

For the past hour, I've been trying to make a call and I can't get a dial tone. I got it to go through once, but no it won't. It just makes a blaring "BOOP BOOP BOOP" sound, idk how to explain it xD,
But has anyone else gotten it? Is it a problem with Sprint, or is my modem broken or something? I have no idea why this is happening.
Thanks.
Come on, someone please respond

Me too!!! I try to call out and after about 20 - 30 seconds I get a fast busy signal. I can receive calls no problem.
I DO have Google Voice active on my account...
EDIT:
Just disabled GV and now it's all good. Google must be having problems.
Sounds like a network problem with sprint. You could try flashing a dif modem or even odining to stock but imo it sounds like a network issue on sprints end. Try calling customer service.

In my case it is an issue w/ Sprint and GV. I disabled GV on my account and presto, I could make calls again.
Of course, this was after flashing a couple of different modems... sigh.

Both my wife's and my phone are doing the same thing. I spent a good 30 minutes on the phone with customer support. Interestingly, I was able to get it to work for about 5 minutes by dialing *740 (but not pressing talk) then rebooting the phone. The CS rep said it had something to do with "call forwarding being enabled" for whatever that's worth. I immediately asked if it was related to the GV integration being setup on both lines and she said no (but in my head I'm thinking, yeah right).
I did notice that my PRL was the "older" one and I just did a PRL update on my phone, but that didn't fix anything.
If you disable GV integration, can I just re-enable it later when they fix this? Is there any delay in switching GV on/off the account?
It worked instantly for me. As for turning it back on, I've done it a few times in the past.

I am beyond annoyed with Sprint as of late. For a few weeks now I have had my messages delayed or not sent. Then all of a sudden, the following day I get a bunch of old texts. People think my phone is possessed. I've had to use Google Voice to check if my messages are being sent. There are numerous complaints about this across Sprint Community and across platforms, so it's not isolated to one particular phone. Sprint is pretending like this isn't an issue. Here is just an example
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/381442
I don't know what can be done about this. I've already complained and reported it, but they claim it's not a widespread problem. Thoughts/comments are appreciated.

NYC has been experiencing issues, it's being worked on.
Outside of that, update your data profile any time you think you're having texting issues. That will solve the problem about 75% of the time.

Unfortunately wiping profile and PRL only works sometimes. I tried with and without Google Voice. It still happens. I end up checking if my messages are sent via Google Vice which uses wifi as opposed to data with Sprint, so messages are more likely to go through with GV.
Ok so whenever I reset my ram with task manager my radio crashes and when it comes back on it says roaming then jumps back to Sprint service. It also happens when using ##3282# wether I go to edit or view clicking on evdo will crash the radio. It did this on every build since I got the phone. Its nothing major like b4 when rebooting was the only way to get back in service. Just wanted to point it out bcuz I know its not normal and never experienced it with the og epic.

Its not a glitch that is supposed to happen. When u clear the RAM it stops all apps and processes from running. That us why that happens. Actually that was used to help get rid of LOS rather than rebooting cause it resets the radio.

Ok but why does it do it when accessing ##3282# and clicking on evdo from both the edit and view option? Also mind you it did this on my EG30 firmware when I got the phone. I disagree for the simple fact my phone always did this from day one. Clearing my ram always crashed my radio on eg30 so how is that new? Don't get me wrong I believe they did find a way for the phone to not have to reboot when it happens, but that right there is not it. Its a hardware flaw..

I got my phone about three months ago approximately. It must of had eg baseband on it because it immediately updated to ek02. I don't know if what I think Los is, is actually what it is. I thought it was, when you woke up the phone, you would discover that the 3g and bars were gone and replaced with a circle with a slash through it. Am I mistaken?

Ok that's good to know. I got the phone on December and I never got one either. However I did experience the no signal popping up whenever I shut the phone off every once in a while. Never happened again after I upgraded to ek02. I'm just trying to get some info b4 I decide to go to Sprint and swap it out.. I have both phones, and both perform the same way. As have the hundreds that I've troubleshot in the last three years at my store.
Sounds like you have heard your answer countless times, your just looking for feedback that follows what you want, not the actual facts.
Its not a crash. It will show a crossed out circle, flash connecting to voice(the 1x icon), and reconnect to 3G. If it isn't reconnecting, you have an issue. But, it will always reset.

1st I'll start off by saying two people already said they don't have this issue in this thread. 2nd how those the 1x icon show before reconnecting to 3g when Sprint disables the 1x from all their 4g phones from showing. And lastly I am glad you experienced the same behavior on all the phones you've worked on. I however didn't have that same experience. Anyways I already spoke to my friend (who works at a Sprint store) and he assured me his doesn't do it and if I would like I can come in to the store so he can order me a new one. Which I will do...
Edit: PS how dare you say all phones do it when I have my first epic 4g in my face and it is not doing this? Smh

Has it been happening with every text you send, or is it kinda random? Mine seems to be random so far. Hopefully its a network issue on TMobiles side.
In case you don't know, in Messaging apps settings you can set it to request a delivery report for SMS and/or MMS. That way you can at least be sure if/when your texts go through. It will notify you when it is delivered.
