It's been fun, but it's time to move on. There really isn't any reason for me to continue work on this device, linux society has his kernels and now builds a CM10 rom, and the only things that made my roms different are also in his roms, so I choose to stop work and move onto another device that needs some loving. His roms and kernels and other mods will make for a spectacular CM10 based rom for you guys, I'm sure of it.
I'll continue to work with waydownsouth for the a100 device for CM, but other then that, I'm retired from the A100.
Please feel free to continue to PM, email, or even gchat me for help or just to BS, you can still find me in #iconia-dev on freenode though I'm afk most of the time.
Kuroikaze B2 and CM9 Nightly B68 will be my final uploaded roms for the A100. Jellytime X will never be uploaded, it has issues that require some work after flashing that I just don't feel the need to fix as I'm just going to stop afterwards anyways.
I had considered moving to the A200, but linux society has also ported to that device, so I'll move off the Iconia devices entirely and find something new to mess around with.
I've enjoyed the community a lot, and I hope it continues to grow and develop as it has been for the last few months I've been a part of it. It's one of the calmest, most helpful communities on XDA.
I'd just like to say thanks for all your hard work. I've learned alot from your posts. And good luck on your next endeavour.
If nothing else, I hope you stick around in the community, even without your work. I understand your reasons and appreciate all you've done , but just having good people around fosters a better community i think, even if they aren't actively contributing to development.
This being my 1st post, and new to the A100 I really reek of noob, but I have truly enjoyed your posts, projects and tutorials - they have really helped me (and countless others I'm sure) understand things better before I starting playing blindly. A big thanks for this, and best of luck with your future projects!
The A100 wouldn't be as active and fun to use without tireless contributions and efforts of great members like you. Thank you pio for all you have done and your support. Best of luck on your new projects. Before I get my next device I would want to be sure pio is lurking in that device's forum

Still deciding between an a200 or maybe a thrive next. Not much besides modded stock is available for the thrive right now (sound familiar?) and it looks like a nice device to work with.
Tapatalked from my Galaxy S II.
thanks for all your work hope to see you around.
I hope you keep helping me with my noob questions, you're great man, thanks for everything!

Farewell to one of the greatest contributors on XDA
Thanks once again and as always Pio. Your were, IMHO, the most contributing member of this community. Always there helping out everyone in need, remaining calm to those who request things which could be easily found with a simple search, and always managing to get your posts in a second before mine . You will be missed and remembered by this community Pio. May you continue your great work (as usual ), and reap your rewards to come (you know ).
Cheers .

Well when I said I'm retiring, I meant ROM wise, I do intend to remain on the forums and in IRC to help futher the community, be it in helpful posts or testing something out for waydownsouth or godmachine or anyone else needing testing or work done for the A100.
That being said, I just got home with my new toy, the Toshiba Thrive. I'll be doing my research, gathering files, and hopefully, waydownsouth, randomblame, gh123man and godmachine/linux society would be willing to help me with the parts that are still beyond me (which is most of it lol).
I am planning to keep the A100 for awhile yet, though if I get a decent offer, I may take it. For now, though, the A100 remains in my possession and for now at least, still gets a little love from me (in other words, an occasional kuroikaze may appear on goo.im, you know me, if I built it, may as well share it). Its a discontinued ROM, but I do still plan to at least include upstream CM updates and changes from time to time.
Thank you pio for all you've done to make our a100s awesome.

so today i was reading through the FF09 thread, and it seems like this build as well as FF02 have seemed to have taken a large step backwards. but then i look around the development forum and see all of the crazy things our amazing devs do, and i thought to myself:
A.) i wonder what these devs do as their day jobs, because the roms put out by them seem to be leaps and bounds better than the roms put out by the actual Samsung devs.
B.) i was wondering what you devs went to college for, if it had anything to do with computer science, or if you just taught yourselves,
and C.) if our devs are so much better than samsung's, and releasing kernel source would allow our devs to do so much more, why dont they just release it and let guys like Calk, and Venum and all of our other amazing devs go crazy on some roms. its not like any of us are going to be running stock ice cream sandwhich...
so if anyone wants to reply, or not, go ahead. just a few things i was curious about. the XDA and android community has started a hobby for me that i never knew about before, and has even got me considering switching my major next year to something computer related. i would love to hear from all or some of the devs, and get their perspectives on this

Dedication.
I agree Samsung/Sprint should be snatching these guys up but then I'd hate to lose them.
This is why people should always be appreciative of the work that is given so freely, other than donations here and there (or for some none at all) these guys are working for nothing more than the pleasure of helping out and learning.
I love xda without the developers we wouldn't have awesome ics roms or ics for that matter. I appreciate all the hard work they do for all us to enjoy

In all honesty, Samsung is building from scratch, while we're taking their build and tweaking it. It's a lot easier when you're tweaking a base, rather than creating it. But it is disappointing that certain flaws are fixed by people who treat this as a hobby as opposed to those that base their career on this.
I agree with the OP though. I am curious as to what our devs do as a day job/ how they got started in developing roms.

I wish xda can start some shorts of online classes Where u can Learn all this tricks and tweaks. Thanks to all devs once again without them phones would be boring.
I am A Police Officer and in the Army National Guard. I have a wife and kids and they all play sports (and yes my wife stays mad at me because I'm always flashing/developing something for our phones lol)... So my life is busy busy AND I'm a moderator here at XDA to top it off. I have not been to college for ANY of the things I do here... I've learn them all from XDA... Reading, learning, doing BRICKING lol. I know there are some that won't believe that, but its true and I have no reason to lie. I started theming on another site, continued here, and began to build a rom thought, could I build a rom that I like? I finally tried and after about 52 flashes it finally booted... I've been hooked ever since... I started our Team to have other like minded people come together and help eachother... I am now trying to pass on what I know to some of them... But you know what? I don't know everything and half the time I learn more from THEM. So it keeps me going when I get burned out developing, the team just by asking or having me test their stuff... its all so much fun... XDA has been good to me, users and the people who run the show. I'm still here because I love tweaking the hell out of these phones and making it better... and when you guys like it, that makes it even more worthwhile...

Not everyone here is necessarily on the level of modifying/porting things from compiled releases. Its a short cut for us because we have an ICS base to work off of but even without it I think CM9 would be only slightly behind Samsung instead they are at or exceeded in some areas. But the Epic 4G developers for example did some fantastic work and I assume combined with help from CM developers ended up with with both an official 7 and 9, with 9 being from non Samsung derived source.
I found it funny to see the early builds and first 2 CM9 port Alphas to have the exact same issues that Samsung had just fixed in the latest leaks of the period. Just interesting to watch our guys doing very similar work. Some of the issues on sbrissens cm9 source kernel are also reminiscent of the earlier leaks.
What is a job? Im a homeless bum that has access to starbucks wifi and has ubuntu based laptop. I stole this laptop from some guy at starbucks and I think his name was Calk??? Lol.
My job is very boring so I have alot of free time while working.

Hello my Friends,
The time has really come to say Good Bye to all my Wonder Friends. I enjoyed and had a good time with all of you by learning/porting stuff.
I8150 is really a nice phone, but I needed to shift from this phone due to some reason.
Long story short, I spent half of my life in coding, leading teams of software engineers, managing enterprise level ERPs and architecting enterprise level application in all the latest and old languages/technologies. I took out some time and did some porting stuff, but my main target was to develop CM7 from sources.
I have most experience in Java/J2EE and less in C++. I tried to take help from different peoples but my bad luck no one guided me due to lack of time or just for no reason.
Not only from our forum I tried to contacted Exihibit II , Galaxy S Plus but I didn't get positive response, whatever the reason is but no one guide me. I searched myself and read a lot of material on net but not a single guide is perfect. There is no problem with Linux setup, I am use to of it.
I believe in Opensource and helping each other by spreading/sharing knowledge but in my case I couldn't search a person like this.
So I decided to switch (just not for CM7) to a device that have a lot of custom roms.
The porting I did is an asset for all of you. I want the guys should come up and take over the Roms from me. I hope you enjoyed my custom roms. If there is anyone who has some programming experience with smali/backsmali, apktool, understanding rom folders, hands on on merging /diff, ready to take risk of bricking then I will be happy to transfer my knowledge, but due to my tough schedule the person should be expert and self starter.
And finally I would like to special thank @arco, @andyroid, @irishpancake and All my Wonder community members.
Thank You All
i wish i had enough knowledge cuz i really wantd to learn from you but im just a noob at these stufff
but i hope u have a better experience with your new device

Hi Ali dsd,
Please stick around as there's no one place or person to obtain this building -information in a reliable and complete form that we're looking for. I too got burnt similarly and still am in process of setting my own build environment based whatever that seemed to work for me from my captures from various blogs, forums and sites.
It's from open minded contributors like you that, when collectively packaged, would effective stuff come and came from. While I respectfully disagree this to be a reason for departure which is quite an expected risk with any open source stuff, I think your presence and continued contribution would benefit others looking to go along your route, though your participation might be less active than earlier.

Don't worry @andyroid, I am not going from XDA, I will be around , I will be checking W forums ( I haven't deleted it from my Fav ) time to time.
Amazingly my new device is not a high end device, Its just Nexus S. I think you will ask why ????
It will save my time . ... How ???? Mostly all types of Rom flavors are there, I just need to flash and use it, and the time I save from here can put on getting some certifications (like PMP, J2EE Architect and MCPD ). Its my decision and it doesn't mean that Nexus S is superior then Galaxy W.
Believe me or not but Galaxy W is an amazing device based on hardware it uses and the small size is very pocket friendly.

I have already said that anyone who have some knowledge in porting can contact me , i will happily transfer my knowledge, because sharing knowledge is the major path to increase knowledge and community, but the person should have some experience.
I want someone to continue MIUIv4 and AOKP, or if someone come-up with their own porting version of any Rom then please ask Mod to delete my two threads.
I really appreciate all of your feelings.

HI alidsd, I understand you, cause I have your same motivation on developing. I studied information tecnology, so I have some knowledgies, but I'm new with android and I'm trying to do somenthing with my rom. I have your main target, build cm7 from source, but as u said there isn't a guide that really help in this, and for me is difficult to begin with it.
So now I have begininng to first port some mods to a gb rom, then to learn how to create a kernel and to port a complete rom. After these steps I like to begin cm7 from source, but I know is really hard.
I also have to say that it is demotivating to see there aren't much developers for our phone, that we haven't ICS from Samsung and at this time we haven't a complete ICS rom, while there is a new android version so probably i never work on cm7, too old...and for this, i was thinking it was better if I took a nexus s....however i can't change phone for now, so i continue to study and develop for my W...but in future the only phone i'll buy should be a nexus or a phone with more contribute from community...
Goodbye Ali and good luck with your new phone

happy porting buddy..

i was motivated by your words Alisd, i really was serious and dreamed to learn more about android, i wanted to try what bagux was doing but i ain't got enough time for it. i was amazed and never imagined that a person whose managing software engineers also tried tweaking our W XD i'm just a beginner software engineer about 6months old on work and specialized in VB and for some reasons i can say i also am at Cobol, i was still trying to learn now despite of the schedule i have and i am starting it on making android apps for now and maybe tweaking in the future. can i ask what company are you working?
UPDATE
UPDATE
I got rid of Nexus S and bought HTC Desire S. Most of you will be wondering Why ???, a lot of reasons. if anyone have interest to know then he can PM me.
I would suggest guys not to go for Nexus S now, its not a good time, it could be debatable but its my personal opinion. All of the Roms that are available for NS are also available for DS.
At last Galaxy W is a good phone, so please stick with it till you find a better phone according to your needs.
Because I have been part of this community so I thought that I should update my community.
Thanks,
I am glad to read opinions about me, you are all wonderful people.
@irishpancake, I am really concerned about your health , please take care, and update your health status so our community can pray for you. God bless on you.
I am happy to see that Alex (from Galaxy S+) has ported MIUIv4 successfully , and I hope he will also port AOKP and other CM9 based Roms from S+ to W.

the long waited tegra 2 ics is now available so means the drivers to put HWA into function is available too...is it mean that a full working CM10 (or jellybean) rom will be developed soon seems all the crucial drivers are available now...
but 1 thing i found that there are less strong or experienced developers are using the glide as their phone and cause us have less power custom roms and kernels...
maybe we need to promote our phone to those optimus 2x and galaxy r developers...they have strong devs there...cause the devs were using those phone which is much popular and familiar than the glide, but they have lower hardware spec, no keyboard and with 512 only ram...and the devs did a good job on optimized them...
i believe our phone will be freaking STRONG if there are numbers of devs willing to optimized it...

Yes but people are usually interested in the hardware they have purchased. So how do you get someone who does not have the hardware interested in helping us out? Please recall even DMan had someone lone him a phone for him to help out. The glide is a great phone but unfortunately has not sold as much, as other popular phones.

We have dman workng on a rom as we speak... this should of been posted in the general section to btw
I suspect he is but has dman said he is working on a new ROM? I'm curious if he is making his own ROM or porting CM. I think Inception was just a stripped down official version of 2.3.5. I would love to see a CM 10 port and not just a repacked stripped ROM.
Oh my gosh with all the discussions about this. BE PATIENT. You all have no idea how much time it takes. Take a look at Inception. It took 1 week just to theme. If you want a stable, JB rom for bounty, the Collective doesn't release half ass working JB builds. Take a look

Please forgive me, I'm sorry for being harsh but I've seen so many threads about this in such a short period of time. Dman and his team the Collective dev for 4-5 devices. I've been learning dev for 6 months and so far all I can do is basic tweaking to apks and decompiling them, as well as putting them in a zip.
Seriously. Just be patient, some of you. Reported for moving, btw
P.S:
This is not a port. It's compiling from source. 10 times harder and time consuming. But less chance for bugs.
P.P.S:
Inception was made without the device. It would've been near impossible to build AOSP blindly. (AOSP is pure, vanilla, Android)
P.P.P.S:
This is not an opinion poll. The devs make it how they like it, you're lucky they post it for you. They could just keep it to themselves. Feature requests are always good, but not "I like CM but I don't want a stripped modified ROM"
Thanks
After having spent the past 5 hours flashing various kernels/ROMs in my gf's xperia x10 mini pro due to various bugs, I will have to agree - in the end, stability is a must, and I am certain dman is working his magic as we speak, no need to get impatient

Everyone is being patient. Were thankful to have any devs working on this device. I just havent seen any posts directly from dman about what he's working on for the Glide. I could have missed the post, thats why I asked. But it would be cool to see a post directly from him about it and not just speculation.
Thread moved
No matter how patient everyone is being, these types of threads still keep getting started in Development. They do not belong there. They belong in General. Keep them in general. Thank you for your cooperation.
Please, everyone, just take a sit, grab a drink, and wait for dman to do his magic
I'm all for quality over a rushed job. Dev'ing is hard, especially for an under-popular device like our own. Fewer fellow devs to help out and carry the load, and more people putting the pressure on because they're impatiently excited.
Give the devs their time, it will be alright. I'm still happy with INCEPTIONv1, more so than the leaked ICS.

All I see is a bunch of little kid hobbiests or elitists that never actually interact with the public. Half of these topics have no files because they're not maintained. And the other half blatantly lie to get views. What ever happened to being proud of your work and seeing something through to the end?
And where are the mods in this? While I know XDA allows and even encourages elitism; what about the lying and ill maintained threads? It just makes you look bad. I say, as a community, we need to stand up to this creeping illness and put a stop to it.
Admittedly, there are a couple of good hobbiests that try their best to maintain. I don't fault you guys.
Will you be a little thankful? The threads which have no files are from just 3 accounts belonging to the same person who got banned. These people, even those whom you call 'hobbyists' are spending their time to provide you with stuff which they are not being paid to do they may be learning and their skills will only increase over time. Most of all, this device has outdated hardware and is very difficult to develop for. So if you want more development, buy a One X or a Galaxy S3

This post was meant to be a challenge but turned into a complaint. For that, I apologize. But the sentiment still stands. We should ask for a little bit more accountability from these people if they want the crown of "developer". Dead links, no support and empty rom threads should be frowned upon. Not defended so blindly as you have.
And the people of whom I speak aren't banned, they post daily. Even einstiens files are mirrored.

If you do not know.......the wildfire S is a budget phone and the ones usually using them are either newbies or learning developers
If you want some serious development....you should probably get a mid-range or high-end phone...This is the best you'll get on such a device
And as for the mod,I also agree that he doesnt look much into this forum
The whole dev section is full of unfinished and buggy ROMs with little or no maintenance and support... but its an old device development was probably thriving back in its day

I see you got a Sony Neo now. Please leave this section if you don't have anything useful to say. More interesting stuff in the Neo forum for you!!
We can say we got some good roms over here, CM7/9/10, MIUI, some sense ROMs etc. Support and maintenance is given to these ROMs until they are bugfree or there isn't a reason to update. CM9 is finished. It is bugfree and the CM team doesn't update its ICS repo's anymore. CM7 is finished too I find. Sense ROMs don't need support. They should just work flawlessly. And MIUI is up to the latest build it can be.
There are some unfinished ROMs out here. Check their thread and rating and leave it, simple as that.
So what I want to say is, show a little more respect to people who do this for free in their spare time. Most likely, the Wildfire S is our first smartphone and we started learning from zero. If you want something better, join the club and learn a bit more!! Up to today, there are only a handful devs for this device (gladiac, alquez, benjamin, dudeman, einstein, woefelderelict, me, ...).
If you see where we came from a year ago and now. I can say this community has given some great stuff.
I could never imagen that MIUIv4 could run on this phone
What makes it even more special is that this device doesn't have official ICS and powerful hardware.
If I see the One X getting CM10 for example, it's like "whatever, nothing special".
If you want Professionalism then pay and hire a Professional.
Stated by others all the development here is VOLUNTARY and at WILL…Remember all the people on XDA come from different walks of life and have different temperaments. XDA is also sort of a social forum where people of the same interests can self-promote, if you are annoyed about this then just ignore it, move on and if think those is not within the guidelines of the forum then report it. Only the popular device forums get most of the moderators’ attention.
You have to understand Developers are doing all this with their time, effort and own funds. It is at their election to maintain, and release any newer builds, which some do. Try building a ROM yourself and then try pleasing everyone who wants to use/try it, you will find it is not that easy. As for dead links, yes there are many, but that is how the internet of FREE file hosting service is, they will only host a file for limited time then purge the file for newer files.
I am not flaming you, do understand that this is a hobbyist community with people from around the world that help, and share what they have learned. Most posts are of people that have an issue with their device and wanting a fix, and then they disappear after they found an answer to their problem.
I am grateful for ALL the developers who have given their talent, knowledge, time and thoughts to this community no matter how small.
Just my two cents.

Xda people are so rude. xD No Offence.
I concur.
Please show me a Rom that's posted for the marvelc, and I'll show you a rom that's unusable. And jelly bean?!? Even though there's multiple titles that say we have it. THERE IS NONE. I'm not trying to bag on the skill level. (Even though I did) Mostly it's the maturity, and the lack of responsibility for the work that is done here.
But whatever, I get it. I'm wrong and I'll stop talking.

here's one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776912
Wild Child sense nothing left to update and works well on marvelc or get the HenseMod VM patch and flash after you flash most marvel Roms. see lots of development for a year
This is the official buildbox support thread. Many of you are probably wondering what a buildbox is... I will try to explain without getting too far sidetracked!
---Purpose---We are trying to raise money in support of multiple roms/devs. This is not for one particular dev, nor is it one particular rom. Consider this a donation to the community in which you are a part of. This is helping the devs have more resources at their disposal, and ultimately, helping you have a better rom! Please read below for more of an explanation.
---What is buildbox?---For the open source community (CM10, Paranoid Android, CNA, etc), the roms are built from source. Doing this is not very easy, nor is it quick! It takes a lot of time and effort. I don't want to simply 'thank' the devs and leave it at that. So, I have made a contribution to the open source community. I have commited a powerful server to the devs that choose to use it for building open source roms.
Now you say, "So what... they could use their own computer and build roms..."
Yes, they could. However, look at this. For many devs (especially since ICS and above), the build times have increased significantly!! I'm talking 4+ hours in some cases! In steps the buildbox. The buildbox (in it's current condition) has cut most build times to between 20 and 30 mins.
Then you ask, "Why does that matter to me?" Well, the quicker the rom is done, the quicker we discover bugs, and, in turn, can FIX bugs! Think about it: If you were waiting in the lobby at the car dealership for some work to be done and it was going to take 3 hours to complete the work, you wait. You aren't getting anything done. Now, if you were able to speed the process up to 25 min, you could get much more done that day because you aren't stuck for over 3 hours!
---Why does this matter to you?---Maybe more choices of roms, maybe nightlies of your favorite roms, maybe less bugs! A small donation toward our goal will help keep the hardware current and allow for the devs to get the great benefit of a powerful machine. Hard drive space is quickly filling up, the RAM is over full utilization, and other hardware improvements can be made.
-=Current goal=-
buildbox project (must have flash).PayPal here:
Any donations and/or support are greatly appreciated.
Currently supported devs (a big thanks goes out to them and their work!): Phantomphreak53 (CM10 nightlies), kbizzle (Paranoid Android SG3 and SG2), and justlovejoy (CNA). These devs have great talents and more work to come. Support the project for them and for your own benefit.
PS: If anyone is looking for more info, has suggestions, or is interested in the project, feel free to pm me. All of the devs can vouch for me (even a couple not listed here). This is a legitimate request. We are counting on the open source community to keep this project going strong.
tl;dr, support open source development and make a donation to the development tools!
I use to donate to Developers, because they spend time developing instead studying, hanging with friends or family etc.
But to be honest, and judging about other threads by you. This sounds more like: "i want a new computer" than "lets help the community".
I hope to be wrong.
Yeah I'll donate when devs step forward using it. And there is a particular piece of hardware you can mention.. ..also couldn't were just use our if it doesn't exist try to start a opencl/direct compute gcc and so on? Hell air crack NG allows for networked opencl of 32 devices 1 high end graphics card is equal to more then 10 high end cpus

Ok, basketthis first and foremost isn't trying to get a new computer. I personally use his box to build roms for two devices currently. If he hadn't provided the machine to turn my 4 hour build times into 30 min, I would be left standing with my d*ck in my hand, just trying to work with one device in a timely manner. A donation is simply that. So all I ask is that you don't come in here and bash him for just trying to give back to the community in his own way. It's his bandwidth and electronics we are using and over time, they will need to be paid for and upgraded. If you don't know the Devs or use their roms, that's fine but don't throw accusations around to try and deface a member of this great community.

The more understanding, the better. This tool is out there for the devs and we want to make it better so more devs can get involved. Who knows, it may be a dev that ends up developing for your next phone... The possibilities are endless with community involvement.
Received a donation. I've committed to match anyone else's donation up to 50 dollars. Would like to see this project continue. I will do everything I can to help. Can't wait to get my hands dirty on some upgrades for these devs! They deserve it!
Got the chipin/PayPal sites working together. The chipin site now reflects donation status.
Bump.
This guy is already hosting a build box for Kbizzle, which has made it easier to build his ROMs. I personally think this is well worth a donation, even if it's just $1...
Next time you donate to your favorite developer, send this guy a small donation to help keep the build boxes up and running.
