Ever so often my phone goes stupid and thinks i'm repeatedly touching the menu 'button' and it does this 5-20 times until i lock the phone and wake it then it's fine for a few hours. Its getting annoying and i don't know what to do to fix it.
It's running stock 4.0.4, no root, no modifications. Only had the phone for about 3 weeks.

Yea my original Epic had that issue as well it's really annoying. Once I got a replacement phone it stopped. Now my Epic Touch does it, does anyone know of any roms that STOP the issue after having the issue on a phone that is stock. I'm just rooted the hard brick and flash counter have kinda turned me off from flashing. I always try to do alot of research first and I've been pretty busy at work.

I was getting the phantom menu pop-ups for a long time, too. Turning off 3G worked, which seemed to confirm that it was low-signal + screen problem. However, since I upgraded to FI03 rooted with Agat's recovery an kernel, I haven't notice the problem. The past 3 or 4 days I've had not issues with phantom menus. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Weird this just now started happening, it was perfectly fine for a 2 weeks.

I agree GPS has been great. Thanks to the qualcomm s3 it works great. Not so great for some of the exynos chips on other galaxy s phones. Look at epic touch 4g and you will see they are not getting such great results. Something with the chip and sprints radio's must be conflicting. The galaxy s II from at&t seems to be working well too.
Yes, I must agree. This GPS locks very fast and it is pretty darn accurate. I am loving this phone so far.

There's nothing wrong with the GPS. aGPS stops working and there are no satellites downloaded, and there is no fix.
GPS Fix actually seems to have worked because now it's reliably getting a fix.

You really shouldn't need gpsfix. I have it out of force of habit. If you're losing the ability to lock, there definitely seems to be a problem with it. I'd take it back and ask for an exchange, just to be on the safe side.

Used the gps today on a two hour trip with tons of turns through the city and it held strong and didn't lose me once. Works really good which surprised me because one thing about older Samsungs phones is the gps would always flake out.
I am currently using the GPS in DC and its amazing. Usually my other Android phones would re-calculate

Anyone having trouble getting GPS lock using the Telus SGS2X? I'm in downtown Toronto and I can't get a lock for the life of me, it just bounces around my neighborhood.
Used it in Seattle the other day, only time I lost GPS was when I was 4 floors underground in a parking garage. Saved me a lot of time. GPS has been horrible on all Samsung phones I've had until this one.
Now we just need a good offline GPS app.
I have problems if I'm on WiFi and try to get a lock off of WiFi. I have to restart the phone. Happened to a replacement too so don't tell me it's the phone. The GPS hardware obviously is excellent, just this bug that has existed on all of my T-Mobile phones (GPS won't lock on WiFi, probably due to aGPS authentication) is carrying over when I'm off of WiFi.
I just got a used Epic Touch 4g from Cowboom. Today is the first day using it and I really like it. However I am having some weird issues. While the phone is on and I am either in a browser (Dolphin, Stock) or an app the 4 capacitve buttons will light up automatically. Then sometimes after they light up at the bottom of the screen the Options menu will show up. When this happens the phone haptic feed back goes off.
Anyone know what is going on and possibly a solution before returning? I really don't want to return this phone.
I'm having the exact same issue. It started doing this since I installed the "official" ICS. I didn't have this issue with GB. I have not gone back to GB since I really like ICS...

Same here I noticed this randomly since I have been on Official ICS.
Has this phone been out for over a year? Since I bought it used I don't know if there is any manufacturer's warranty left on it. I didn't purchase insurance.
I had the same issue for months but only when cell service was crappy. They replaced the screen at the Sprint store and it never happened again.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
I had something similar going on. I called Sprint a few times and ended up going into one of the stores with a service center. I left it for about 45 minutes and the guy said the cable that connects the front capacitive buttons had come loose. I haven't had any issues like this in two months, simple fix. Also, I had an ICS rom on the device prior to the official release and the guy didn't say a thing.
Good luck.
Kyle
How long has this phone been out? Is there a one year manufacturers warranty? I may need to see if I can take advantage of that since I didn't purchase insurance.
this is a known issue, if you search the forum you'll find lots of examples of it, most have just taken it to sprint, even w/o insurance they probably fix it/swap it out for the $35 as this seems to be a common problem

I thought this was a common problem with AOSP builds.
It only happens to me when I lose signal.
But this is a hardware problem?

Yeah this is the first time I heard about it being a hardware (screen) issue too. I never had it happen across all GB ROMs, and just about every leaked ICS build. I didn't experience it until I flashed CM9.

I haven't experienced any button lockups, only phantom menu button spam when I hit a extremely low signal. This only happened to me in the 10 months I've owned this phone, after flashing CM9.
I've noticed this when plugged into a car charger and using navigation in spotty service areas. I always thought it was a heat/capacitance issue.

even with the screen like that, you can try to connect it to the pc to unroot through adb, and if that doesnt work try flashing stock images with fastboot before sending it in
if none work, just send it like that to samsung or whoever

Its an hardware issue brother. Try using a toothpick or any small pin to lift the middle part inside the charging port. Do it only of ur phone is not under warranty. Or else just ask for a replacement. The google/samsung guys have acknowledged this problem and m sure u wont have any problem in getting a replacement.
And in the meanwhile use only the stock charger which came with the phone. Do not switch between the usb cables. Hope it helps

It's like having an adorable illiterate pet
Either you have a hardware issue, in which case claim warranty. Or just do a clean wipe and restart. Are you rooted?
Because that's a silly reason to switch phones. I totally get if you need to upgrade to some other phone - but if this is your sole reason, explore other options before you do.
This failure of screen to come back after a call has been reported by others. I doubt it's hardware.

If it's software, it's defo fixable. I haven't faced this issue on any ROM/Kernel combo I've tried thus far.
Okay scratch that, I did face it once on X Note IIRC. Did a full wipe and everything works well to date.
So as some of you may know, I have self repaired my S3 recently. My power button was faulty and kept turning off by it self. I went in and took the phone apart and fixed the power button issue, only problem the phone gets very hot around the charging port while charging. It didn't do this before I fixed it, so what can be the issue? Any insight could be helpful! Thank you for your time.

Ehh no. Sorry I didn't even notice in the op it gets hot not even in use. Does it get extremely hot or just warm to the touch? The sgs1 use to get so hot around the charging port and screen you couldn't touch it but that was normal for them phones after long periods of playing with it.

Sometimes it just gets warm, and that is my bad, I didn't put that in OP it was charging and not in use.
