Phone gets quite hot around charging port. - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

So as some of you may know, I have self repaired my S3 recently. My power button was faulty and kept turning off by it self. I went in and took the phone apart and fixed the power button issue, only problem the phone gets very hot around the charging port while charging. It didn't do this before I fixed it, so what can be the issue? Any insight could be helpful! Thank you for your time.

Are you sure it did not do it before? I have a sgs3 I bought not even a month ago and it gets very hot around the charging port. Infact my friends gs3 does too. I think its normal.

Ehh no. Sorry I didn't even notice in the op it gets hot not even in use. Does it get extremely hot or just warm to the touch? The sgs1 use to get so hot around the charging port and screen you couldn't touch it but that was normal for them phones after long periods of playing with it.

Sometimes it just gets warm, and that is my bad, I didn't put that in OP it was charging and not in use. Sometimes it is just warm or it can get pretty hot, even if the screen is on and doing nothing, it didn't do this before. I was hoping someone who has taken the S3 apart too might have some insight why, thank you for your help though. It does help. It doesn't seem bad right now.

Hmm are you overclocking? Maybe your CPU is set higher now than before and that could cause heat issues.

That is not a result of a ROM flash.... Sprint and boost use the same hardware and it would not affect your phone.

weird things happen at my church

so in my church my phone has almost no signal but my friends with Verizon and other phones than the galaxy nexus have better signal than that of mine.
what I usually do is just
1. turn the data off or
2. put my phone into airplane mode
when i turn data off, after about 30 minutes my phones gets crazy hot for no reason. and sometimes I have to do a battery pull because it doesn't respond to anything.
today, I put it into airplane mode and it didn't get hot. but after about 2.5 hours, I had gone down from 100% to 75% battery life. also it showed that "media" was 95% of my battery use.(I tried to take a screenshot of the battery but it keeps saying "couldn't save screenshot. storage may be in use"
and my phone was awake the entire time.
this only happens in my church...
does anyone know what is causing all this?
it just seems so strange because I have no problem with my phone anywhere else. I'm running liquid 1.1 and the minimalistic kernel 2.7.1stable if that relates to anything.
no idea, but the power of Google has put an advert on this thread on the xda app for Christian dating nothing is sacred from el goog!

Your phone has been possessed by satanic forces which is why it is happening in church.
Try getting it exorcised or better yet throw it into a bucket of holy water for an hour and of it still works when you take it out you'll know for sure it is possessed.
Maybe the GNex isn't the Jesus phone after all?

Just more evidence that something is seriously borked with the verizon nexus or its radio etc. How frustrating.
guys be serious here...
does "media" in battery relate to the signal strength?
what apps can I get to see specific stats?

Don't worry you can touch your phone if you want, no one is watching.
Use stock kernels and I find you will have better results..Most if the problems I see are user errors. My signal is not an issue. Not as strong as my old thunderbolt but also not a drastic difference as everyone makes it seem

Both my Verizon Nexus and my girlfriends GSM Nexus both get very hot in the area, the CPU / GPU seems to run pretty warm on this phone.
For those with Sprint Gnex heating up, try going into settings and under Wireless and Networks click more> mobile networks and switch it from CDMA to LTE / CDMA. I know it sound ridiculous since there is no LTE and you would imagine it has reverse affect but many are reporting that this helped with the unit and heating up issues.

How hot does your S3 get?

Ha! Try hours with GPS, Bluetooth music and Tethering on... the heat seems to really hit while I'm charging and doing all that. Fact! I can't touch the ass end of the phone. It probably gets about 8 hours a week like that. Still working perfectly. Samsung tells me it's normal. It also has a lot of factors for me too. I use a 1 amp charger. After 96% it's not so bad. At night when brightness is down. Not as hot. I tried to get it to mess up but couldn't. GPS, Bluetooth, tethering, charging from 30% and 100% display, and I pushed out to a low coverage area. Didn't miss a beat or melt. Lol.

Navigation makes phones really hot, but with normal usage it should stay within 30-36°C.
I like this phone's heat management more than my old phone. My Evo 3d would get hot from 10 min usage.
On this, my screen has been on for 2 hours straight and I'm running at a cool 35.1 °C.

It actually shouldn't be expected. The Snapdragon S3's also ran at 1.5ghz and was pleasantly cool and the Exynos on the Galaxy Note was at 1.4ghz. Both are less power efficient and should run hotter than the S4. I've used the Evo LTE for a while with the same S4 and it barely got warm on a hot day. The issue is with the second core being weird. For those that hasn't already, make sure you flash Freeza's fix, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790061 . This fix made my phone cool and got rid of my quickly draining battery life.
Most of the time my phone will stay within "normal" (to me) range, but when I game heavily... it turns into an oven range! I've gotten so paranoid a few times, I took the battery out and let it cooled for 5-10min
Im having the same problem....it isnt the software thats causing this its the hardware

I hope you guys will repsond to this... What do you consider to be "normal" temperature for your phone to reach? Is 35 degrees realy normal? Ive heard people with s3 talk of theirs only reaching temperatures of 29 degrees max.
Thanks.

Not at all so far. Only mildly warm. The heat is really going to depend on what is running on your phone (apps/processes/etc...)

Yep, it was just heating up pretty bad compared to me OG evo. I flashed over to CM10 to try it, so far it hasnt really heated up. Only when playing the games, i just wish we could get this stupid camera issue fixed. That makes me want to go back to Lifeless.
check out spleefs AOKP rom, my temps have gone down significantly from the stock rom which would get hot AF
Mines cool with stock but with aosp its hot AF
It's a glass phone with a quad core processor i think you can figure the rest out.

True
This issue seems to vary from person to person there seems to be no "fix-all" solution. Personally the only time my phone's ever gotten absurdly hot for no reason was when I ran the first build of Cyanogenmod for this device. On stock it took some nasty 108 °F weather to make my phone boil. By now though my phone always stays reasonably cool AOSP or not. You can try changing governors or whatnot with a non-stock kernel or maybe even try eco mode if it isn't already on. That's all I can think of.
I've definitely experienced some heat on mine. Lol

Dam!! That's hot
Mine's been getting really high temps too, even while just browsing the internet!
At some point while I was flashing a rom, it crashed and gave me a soft brick.
It was hell to remove the back and now I even accidentally detached the connector that hooks up with the battery!
I can still charge it (sorta) but my battery is all glitchy.
I'm gonna try switching to aosp.
Its WiFi I made a post about it ....

yea
My phone reaches 120f when playing game but averages 90-100f, its fine
I've noticed that only Stock ROM's have this problem. When I go from Stock to CM, I notice the change of temp right away and vise versa. I get the worst heat from charging. I have a 2.1A home charger and charges the phone quick on CM but with Stock it heats up to almost 130F and doesn't charge at all. There is something wrong with Stock. (I tried Lifeless, VectuS, & nexOGen).
