It's like having an adorable illiterate pet

Either you have a hardware issue, in which case claim warranty. Or just do a clean wipe and restart. Are you rooted?
Because that's a silly reason to switch phones. I totally get if you need to upgrade to some other phone - but if this is your sole reason, explore other options before you do.

This failure of screen to come back after a call has been reported by others. I doubt it's hardware.

Are you on stock ROM?

If it's software, it's defo fixable. I haven't faced this issue on any ROM/Kernel combo I've tried thus far.
Okay scratch that, I did face it once on X Note IIRC. Did a full wipe and everything works well to date.

[POLL]Did you know that holding power will do a hard shut down?

Why bother taking your case off, or wearing out the battery cover clips, or move more the necessarily?
This has never failed me.
Yes. To be honest, though, I always thought that it was power+volume up.

Holding it down for around 10 seconds will also do a soft reboot.
You can also open up your dialer and punch in *#350# to do a full reboot.
Thanks for the tip, as a new E4GT and Droid user all these tips and tricks are helpful!
you would think this would be a universal feature on all electronics by now.

Wait, what? This is news to people? Every phone and computer I've ever owned does this. And it's listed in the manual for our phone. I'm sorry, is this supposed to be a joke I'm missing or something?

When people are shocked that you can "quickly and easily" adjust the brightness of your screen by sliding your finger across the notification menu, then yes, this is definitely ground-breaking news.
Any owner's manual typically holds a few nuggets of awesome like this.

It has nothing to do with trust. He clearly stated his agenda and never gave a timeframe. He even stated a few times he was working on the note abd other phones first since they were easier fixes than our "black sheep" of a phone. He is well know and i wouldnt think that hed take a phone just to take it and not evetually work on it.

The blobs that everyone donated for was clearly a possible hardware issue which means that nobody would be able to fix it without mods made by hand. At best all he could do was look into it. Its not his fault people paid for a new phone just to look into it.
The whole situation is analogous to if Samsung released a new phone where a quarter of them had bad search buttons. It could be a software issue but likely a hardware problem with QA. Instead of exchanging the phone people then proceeded to setup a bounty to buy a new phone to get this fixed. Its looked into and it turns out its just a bad solder connecting the search button. This would of been likely in the first place and people should of just exchanged their phone rather than setting up a bounty for something which has a fair likelihood of being a hardware issue.
You have a hardware issue then exchange your phone.
If the blobs bother you exchange your phone. If the blobs only bother you when you have to follow a page of instructions on how to see it, really. If you need to follow a multi step guide to see it then its not that big of a deal. If it is then exchange your phone.
Just curious...

I play it I notice it with auto brightness on mines so it doesn't bother me. Since my lines are not visible with auto brightness off. It doesn't bother me. Auto brightness is buggy on this phone. Anyway doesn't seem to accurate.

Yeaaa I turned brightness all the way up and it is much better of course but it is just unfortunate that this bandaid is the end all solution. The battery when playing a game and having the brightness all the way up gets effed.

I don't have to do that when auto brightness is on for me I have lines. When it's off at the lowest brightness no lines. If I can't see in the sun I just slide my fingers across the status bar to adjust.

Hmmm is it safe to say that the supercurio project for the t989 is dead???

Phone froze. Now will not turn on.

I was tempting to put my phone into recovery mode, It froze and has done this before and last time i pulled the battery... so i did the same thing this time. Only now the phone will not turn on. Plugs in a Jig and nothing. Pluged in power cord and nothing..... Im assuming its permabricked.
I just want to know if it was because it was going to recovery and i pulled the battery? did something short maybe? any educated guesses?
Take out your battery, microSD, SIM, etc. Let your phone sit for around a half hour to an hour. Put everything back in. It might turn on. You could also try getting it JTAG repaired.

Yeah i gave all that a try. Imma just chalk this up in the win some lose some and get use upgrade for a new one (or use vibrant itll gs3mini comes out).
Its under warranty but im torn because this is not something (i think) i cause to happen like if i was flashing a new rom or did something wrong and messed up the phone...
so i might try to warranty an exchange. and even if they say your a moron and it was your fault. still got to get a new phone.

It makes the vibrate upon powering and the T-mobile sound, but I am getting nothing on the picture. Any idea on something I could try?

Not sure, received it that way from an inventory buyout. It was one of the few products that had been opened/returned? Didn't know if there was a common problem with somebody maybe trying to jailbreak and getting such a problem to occur?
If someone had root and a custom recovery and flashed a ROM but it wasn't a good ROM or a corrupt download or an improper ROM it can cause exactly that. Like I said look up ODIN, it'll set the phone to factory settings and you can be on your way to enjoy your s3

S3 ATT Bricked Black Screen Will Not Boot.

Hey everyone. Thanks in advance. I have searched the forums, the web. Ended up here. I rooted my phone, added carbon rom. With goo download I think it was called. "Goo" something. Now my phone is dead. Will not boot to download mode. Will not turn on at all. The only time I can get anything response from the phone is when I pull the battery plug it in and hold the three buttons. The light stays red, but that is all. No activity from the screen. I have read the phone is "hard bricked" and that I basically need to buy a new phone. I hope that is not the case. Any help is much appreciated. Sorry if this is a repeat post, but after hours of research and no specific answers I felt this what the only way.
Thanks again!
My two suggestions...
1. Hold up (or was it down?) volume, home and power all at the same time. Until you get a reaction. Then figure it out from there
2. Your phone is done for.. Find out where the closest att service center is and say your phone screwed up during an update of theirs. Or just say your phone stopped working and hope for the best
A main question is, does your computer recognize your phone at all?

Thank you for the response. I tired 1 a hundred times and no luck. 2 is my next step tomorrow. BUT the weird thing, is if i pull the battery and plug it in the red charge light shows red. Also, having a PC the computer does the beep as if you plugged in something via USB. This i just recently discovered. Although i really dont think it matters. I also tried making a jig, no luck either. Most likely fail on my end with that.
At this point in time I think the best bet will be the ATT store. Unless someone has another solution, that is the only way I see it being fixed. Gotta read the details when you mess around with this stuff. Now I am paying the price.
Does Odin recognize it when you plug it in to the computer? Keep in mind you need the right drivers for it to recognize a working phone... And this is a longshot to day the least

In all my frustration as is, I played the F it card. You are right about 2 things though. It was flashed with wrong software, and yes it is hard bricked.
