I can't seem to send or receive MMS messages on my Gnex. I didn't try when on 4.0.1 so was it working then? I'm on o2 and there are no guides for APN setup yet. If yours is working could you post up the APN please?? It's odd because I have a sgs2 running ICS and its not working there as well...... Any ideas are welcome!!
anyone??
Tmobile much?

I had similar issues, turns out I had an extra (bogus) APN defined for MMS traffic, removing it helped instantly.
my MMS is broken too. Only works very rarely, and even then it's broken.
I contacted my carrier and explained it all and they said they'll send me a new SIM. Let's see what that'll do...
make sure wifi is off when trying to o send and receive. I'm sure there are probably apn issues too, but this has helped some people too.

Exact same issue for me despite many attempts to resolve it. I am on the giffgaff network and tried all the APNs with no success. It definitely appears to be an issue with ICS. As per the OPs post ideas, solutions would be welcome.

Thanks for the post.... I know most (like me) don't use mms much but I like to be able to get them from friends that are not quite "up with the times"...lol But like you said this seems to be more a issue with ICS than the actual APN... Help out guys if its working for you what rom & APN are you running?
It's definitely a problem with Android as a whole, since I had the same trouble on my HTC Desire all the way from stock to custom roms. Only some custom roms enabled MMS but I have no idea what the devs did to fix it. It's been an issue for me the past 2 years now. Has never worked properly since making the jump to smartphones. Even iphones have trouble with MMS apparently, so its not isolated to android either.
I doubt my new sim will make a difference, still waiting for it to arrive
i have no problem on my telco (Maxis) in Malaysia.. since i use
desire
incredible s
desire hd
evo 3d
galaxy nexus
all mms are working fine.. because my apn is already available with the android os.. no need to configure anything
my telco always send mms ads.. so when it comes to my gnex.. i just on my data.. then download the mms.. then the mms will load up n play well
Did anyone come up with a working solution for this issue? I've tried everything i could find in here:
Changing mms.apk, try with Handcent and GO SMS Pro. No luck.
I've checked my apn settings and checked them with the guide from my provider (Bibob - Denmark).
I get a message that I've got a new mms and when i push the download button it says "Currently unable to download. Please try again later."
I had the exact same problem with my Desire, but i gave up on trying to fix that... Could seem that i have to do that again with this new phone.
If someone could help i'm very interested in any suggestion.

Call your provider and ask about it. Maybe your subscription don't have mms activated?

I know it is... MMS is not an option here in DK, it's just there with every provider.
Hi xda i've had a problem with my new galaxy nexus with sending and downloading any MMS message.
Basically I noticed the issue today as it was the first time a friend sent me a mss on my new device and I could not download it. I tried messing with the APN, Auto-Receive and turning WIFI off and I still could not get it to download or send MMS so I decided it must be a issue with the device.
My phone came with stock yakjuxw 4.0.4 but I flashbooted it to 4.1 without root and ive had no issues other than this MMS issue. It is not my sim as I tried sending and receiving MMS from my old Blackberry and it worked fine.
My device is a unlocked GSM device and I am based in Australia.
Can anybody give me some insight on what to do?
EDIT: I looked at CatLog while trying to download the msg and I got the following which it kept repeating if it means anything:
GC_CONCURRENT freed
WAIT_FOR_CONCURRENT_GC BLOCKED
Ps: My first post of now many

The first MMS I received yes was from a friend with an iphone but then tried sending one from a nokia and got the same issue.
It sounds stupid but could it have anything to do with me not having root?

I've experienced similar issues in the past, and had success with going into the APN settings, hitting the menu dots, and selecting the reset to default option. Send some of the settings or data got corrupt at some point (even though everything looked OK)

I have a similar problem on both of our nexuses (nexi). Mine is rooted and my wife's is 100% stock. MMS send fine most places, but anywhere that has a wifi network seems to keep the MMS from sending. The picture will just sit there with 'Sending' next to it for days before you realize it never sent. It wont even send once you leave the wifi area. If I send the message when i'm not near wifi, it sends fine. I realize this is of little help, but you're not alone anyhow.
This is my first visit since this problem and I figured out the problem was to do with my carrier. I called them and my MMS was set to use blackberry servers. They put me back on their network and its worked since

I have seen a few threads, but no solutions.
Has anyone found a solution to what seems to be a widespread problem of not being able to send or receive MMS messages? I am rooted and running jbsourcery 5.1. Any help would be appreciated.
Never had an issue sending/receiving MMS on Nexus. I also very much doubt this is as widespread as you've tried to make it seem.
Maybe its a widespread issue with that ROM because I dont have issues and havent seen that many people complain about it. I also have never used that ROM.
EDIT: Also, from what I believe, MMS needs a data connection to go through. If you have little to no connection, this could be the problem.
Google it. Seems to be very common, especially on Verizon and sprint. Had the same issue on stock 4.2.1 as well. No matter how good connection is, it hangs on "sending". Even on wi-fi.

It doesn't use wifi to send mms. It turns data on for a brief moment to send it.

Sending MMS over WiFi is an issue. I've had it since day one with my vzw GNex. I'm used to it now. If I didn't like this phone so much I'd trade up for something else.
MMS are NOT sent/received through WiFi.

I'm on tmobile monthly and had issues with MMS in non-stock messaging apps. I had to enter the APN setting within the third party messaging app to get it to work.
i havent had an issue with mms since before sourcery 5.0 on my toroplus (when i did it was usually bc wifi was connected) but if you have wifi connection on it does cause issues. i am on sourcery 5.1.8 exp now and mms works flawlessly so it is definately not a rom issue. depending on your provider try updating prl/profile and reboot then try again, leave wifi off when you do.

It works for me if you just take of wifi and have mobile data on.
I've noticed a few questions about getting MMS working on sprint S3's that are flashed to cricket so I thought I'd post this to help out some.I am by now means an expert but I have flashed a lot of phones and through much trial and error found out what works.
TouchWiz bases ROM's
1st option is a paid solution so I won't post a link but you can PM me.
2nd option GoSMS which can be downloaded from google play install it, 1st go to setting>advanced>mms settings, check the box that says Fill apn configuration manually MMSC should be http://mms.mycricket.com/servlets/mms?x-cricket-mdn=xxx_xxx_xxxx x's being your phone number
2nd MMS Proxy should be wap.mycricket.com
3rd MMS Port should be 8080 after this it will work a lot of the guides i've seen will tell you proxy is mms.cricket.com i've never had that work.
3rd option follow this post step by step a liitle more involved but you can use stock messaging http://www.cricketusers.com/cdma-sa...-s3-mms-solution-confirmed-working-great.html
CM,AOSP and AOKP ROM's
1st and really only option you will need
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649508 this solution was developed by Cornaljoe for the samsung epic however i have tested it on many phones and it has always worked well make sure to thank him for his hard work.
I hope this helps I have personally used all of these and they all work. any questions just ask and if anyone needs help flashing this phone to cricket just send me a PM and i'll be glad to help.
Note to mods I hope this is in the right place.

I have tried all the Touch Wiz methods from the original post and they all get reset automatically back to stock Sprint settings.
I am using a Sprint S3 SPH-L710 on stock 4.1.2 rooted with clockwork mod recovery.
I flashed it to Cricket myself using the tutorial on Cricket Users forum. I really expected to find a solution there, but I see a couple of people with the same problem I am having. The reason I rooted it is because of the "confirmed working" solution over there, but it does the same thing and resets mms setting back to Sprint.
I know I am following all the directions to the letter, and like I said I have sent and received text pictures but then the settings revert back to Sprint.
This is extremely frustrating because I See others posting that it works and mine just keeps resetting.
What am I missing?
Or is there something in a phone released with 4.1.2 that is changing the settings?

Thank you for your reply.
I did try what you posted and it worked the same as before until the settings reset.
I believe I may have figured it out since you pointed me to the build.prop edit.
I found a couple of different posts here on xda and a couple of other forums for different device models that pointed me to which files to edit or delete. I have read so many different threads about this I am not sure exactly where I got which files that worked.
But in a nutshell, I had the wrong mnc in my apn.
I edited build.prop, apn, dss, & various other unrelated settings, slashing and burning whatever got in my path.
310016 was what worked for me if that helps anyone else, somehow I had it switched to 310090 in apns-conf.xml and build.prop still said 310120.
And for whatever reason, my alarm has not reset the notification melody again.
Wifi on, no settings reset. Sent and received with both GoSMS Pro and whichever mms.apk I switched in there. I'm really not sure where I got it, but it shows to be 624KB installed. I notice that all the ones I found are a little bit different size.
I am really liking this S3, it's a big improvement over my out-of-the-box stock ZTE Score.

cricket messaging app not working right after 4.3 update on S3
Okay, seems like everyone is having problems with sending and/or receiving MMS on flashed (to Cricket) Sprint S3. Just recently, I purchased a Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3. The guy flashed it to Cricket and when I got home, I noticed that I couldn't receive MMS. Instead of calling him back, I decided to find a fix myself to be able to receive MMS on the native messaging app. So this is what I did:
1.Dial ##3282# (this opens the Data Programming Menu)
2.Tap on "Edit" and enter your MSL Code (000000)
3.Go to "MMSC", then "MMSC URL"
4.Change the url to: (see attached image) and hit Okay to apply.
5.Go to MMSC Proxy and change that to "0.0.0.0"
6.Reboot phone and make sure you're connected to 3G.
7.Have someone send you a MMS and it should download and open, using the native messaging app, with no problem!!!
It worked for me and I haven't had a problem since I changed the MMSC URL and Proxy.
Have Fun Sending & Receiving MMS!!!!
My mother bought a brand new nexus 5X from Google's website and cannot send or receive picture messages through messenger and Google hangouts as well. MMS only working through third party apps, extremely annoyed by this. Checked apn settings, rebooted, all that stuff. Any solution?

I have had a few issues with mms as well. Not sure what the issue is, or if it is network related or not.

I also just started having mms issues yesterday. I have a group thread that's been active since I got the 5x a few weeks ago, but for the last 24+ hours all of the messages from one participant are saying "Couldn't download. Touch to download." And when I touch, it tries to download for a second and then goes back to saying it couldn't download. I've tried resetting the APN, rebooting into safe mode, nothing's working. This is all through Messenger; haven't tried a third party app yet.

Same here, just started happening yesterday using the Messenger app. Was working flawlessly before that.
I've tried booting into safe mode. APN looks fine. Strong LTE signal from AT&T tower. What changed yesterday?
Edit: Just tested using Hangouts as the default SMS app, and it worked fine. Something's broken in Messenger.
Hmm unfortunately neither taking out my sim card not switching to Hangouts seemed to do the trick. Still not downloading the messages from that person, and touching to download does nothing.

Guys what are your carriers? I have T-Mobile and don't have the issue, but I know a neighbor with iPhone 6 also on T-Mobile, where as her phone doesn't get mms messages while Wi-Fi is connected. I basically have to text her first and tell her that I am about to send mms, so she could turn off Wi-Fi and get the mms. Check with Wi-Fi off and on. I have seen some android phones didn't switch to cell data to get mms and because of that mms would get stuck and may never reach the phone.
Yea I've seen those types of issues too, but this is with WiFi off. I rarely have it on. And I'm on AT&T.

Deleting all of the APNs, re-adding the previously functional one and rebooting seems to have done the trick. Back on messenger and can send/receive MMS again.
PS, my son had the same issue on a Sony Xperia Z3 running KitKat, also on AT&T, and the same procedure fixed his as well.

Do you guys have three APNs -- Nextgenphone, Phone, and WAP? Which one was selected before you deleted the APNs and which one was selected after restoring the default APNs? For me, Nextgenphone was selected before and Phone was selected after.

I had this exact same issue using Hangouts for MMS - on Cricket (AT&T MVNO). Wasn't sure who to blame at the time - new Nexus phone or Cricket issues. When it first happened a few weeks ago, getting the MDB08L OTA seemed to fixed it. It happened again last week and I was never able to retrieve several MMS messages (Click to download/retrieve message with it failing to download when attempting) before they expired. I never tried the deleting APN trick, I'll have to give it a go the next time this happens.
I'll be switching to to Project Fi soon though, which will either solve this or create a whole other host of issues.
