I have seen a few threads, but no solutions.
Has anyone found a solution to what seems to be a widespread problem of not being able to send or receive MMS messages? I am rooted and running jbsourcery 5.1. Any help would be appreciated.
Never had an issue sending/receiving MMS on Nexus. I also very much doubt this is as widespread as you've tried to make it seem.
Maybe its a widespread issue with that ROM because I dont have issues and havent seen that many people complain about it. I also have never used that ROM.
EDIT: Also, from what I believe, MMS needs a data connection to go through. If you have little to no connection, this could be the problem.
Google it. Seems to be very common, especially on Verizon and sprint. Had the same issue on stock 4.2.1 as well. No matter how good connection is, it hangs on "sending". Even on wi-fi.

It doesn't use wifi to send mms. It turns data on for a brief moment to send it.

Read something on Android central about apn settings getting out of whack. Mar try to call sprint to see if they know what they are supposed to be.

Try using handcent I have had no problems with MMS and it has alot more features
Sending MMS over WiFi is an issue. I've had it since day one with my vzw GNex. I'm used to it now. If I didn't like this phone so much I'd trade up for something else.
MMS are NOT sent/received through WiFi.
Off topic: MMS work fine on CM10.1 (tested on this month's nightly 06)

I'm on tmobile monthly and had issues with MMS in non-stock messaging apps. I had to enter the APN setting within the third party messaging app to get it to work.
i havent had an issue with mms since before sourcery 5.0 on my toroplus (when i did it was usually bc wifi was connected) but if you have wifi connection on it does cause issues. i am on sourcery 5.1.8 exp now and mms works flawlessly so it is definately not a rom issue. depending on your provider try updating prl/profile and reboot then try again, leave wifi off when you do.

I can't seem to send or receive MMS messages on my Gnex. I didn't try when on 4.0.1 so was it working then? I'm on o2 and there are no guides for APN setup yet. If yours is working could you post up the APN please?? It's odd because I have a sgs2 running ICS and its not working there as well...... Any ideas are welcome!!
anyone??
Tmobile much?

I had similar issues, turns out I had an extra (bogus) APN defined for MMS traffic, removing it helped instantly.
my MMS is broken too. Only works very rarely, and even then it's broken.
I contacted my carrier and explained it all and they said they'll send me a new SIM. Let's see what that'll do...
make sure wifi is off when trying to o send and receive. I'm sure there are probably apn issues too, but this has helped some people too.

Exact same issue for me despite many attempts to resolve it. I am on the giffgaff network and tried all the APNs with no success. It definitely appears to be an issue with ICS. As per the OPs post ideas, solutions would be welcome.

Thanks for the post.... I know most (like me) don't use mms much but I like to be able to get them from friends that are not quite "up with the times"...lol But like you said this seems to be more a issue with ICS than the actual APN... Help out guys if its working for you what rom & APN are you running?
It's definitely a problem with Android as a whole, since I had the same trouble on my HTC Desire all the way from stock to custom roms. Only some custom roms enabled MMS but I have no idea what the devs did to fix it. It's been an issue for me the past 2 years now. Has never worked properly since making the jump to smartphones. Even iphones have trouble with MMS apparently, so its not isolated to android either.
I doubt my new sim will make a difference, still waiting for it to arrive
i have no problem on my telco (Maxis) in Malaysia.. since i use
desire
incredible s
desire hd
evo 3d
galaxy nexus
all mms are working fine.. because my apn is already available with the android os.. no need to configure anything
my telco always send mms ads.. so when it comes to my gnex.. i just on my data.. then download the mms.. then the mms will load up n play well
Did anyone come up with a working solution for this issue? I've tried everything i could find in here:
Changing mms.apk, try with Handcent and GO SMS Pro. No luck.
I've checked my apn settings and checked them with the guide from my provider (Bibob - Denmark).
I get a message that I've got a new mms and when i push the download button it says "Currently unable to download. Please try again later."
I had the exact same problem with my Desire, but i gave up on trying to fix that... Could seem that i have to do that again with this new phone.
If someone could help i'm very interested in any suggestion.

I know it is... MMS is not an option here in DK, it's just there with every provider.
Hi xda i've had a problem with my new galaxy nexus with sending and downloading any MMS message.
Basically I noticed the issue today as it was the first time a friend sent me a mss on my new device and I could not download it. I tried messing with the APN, Auto-Receive and turning WIFI off and I still could not get it to download or send MMS so I decided it must be a issue with the device.
My phone came with stock yakjuxw 4.0.4 but I flashbooted it to 4.1 without root and ive had no issues other than this MMS issue. It is not my sim as I tried sending and receiving MMS from my old Blackberry and it worked fine.
My device is a unlocked GSM device and I am based in Australia.
Can anybody give me some insight on what to do?
EDIT: I looked at CatLog while trying to download the msg and I got the following which it kept repeating if it means anything:
GC_CONCURRENT freed
WAIT_FOR_CONCURRENT_GC BLOCKED
Ps: My first post of now many
99% of the time it's APN related.
Does your friend have an iPhone? I have horrible problems getting MMS from iPhones for some reason.

The first MMS I received yes was from a friend with an iphone but then tried sending one from a nokia and got the same issue.
It sounds stupid but could it have anything to do with me not having root?

I've experienced similar issues in the past, and had success with going into the APN settings, hitting the menu dots, and selecting the reset to default option. Send some of the settings or data got corrupt at some point (even though everything looked OK)

I have a similar problem on both of our nexuses (nexi). Mine is rooted and my wife's is 100% stock. MMS send fine most places, but anywhere that has a wifi network seems to keep the MMS from sending. The picture will just sit there with 'Sending' next to it for days before you realize it never sent. It wont even send once you leave the wifi area. If I send the message when i'm not near wifi, it sends fine. I realize this is of little help, but you're not alone anyhow.
This is my first visit since this problem and I figured out the problem was to do with my carrier. I called them and my MMS was set to use blackberry servers. They put me back on their network and its worked since

I'm running CM10 (the latest nightly) on my WIND SGH-T999V. I can send MMS, but I cant receive them. When someone sends me an MMS, the message thread indicates that there is an attachment somewhere there (a little paperclip on the right side of the thread, but I can't see it (the picture or the message with the picture). I can open up the thread, but only view SMS. I don't know how long I've had this problem, since I don't receive MMS all that often, but I'm 100% sure it was working when I was on Stock.
Any ideas?
I've had this problem running stock JB. I found that I can't download attachments while connected to wifi (maybe has to do with wifi calling or something?). My wife has the same problem and she is 100% stock JB. While on 4g it works fine though. Not sure if that is something you have already tried.

My problem is a step further actually, I can't see the message at all. Normally you receive the message, whatever text is included shows, and then there's the option to download the attachment. I don't get any of that. I only see SMS messages.
My MMS sending/downloading over WiFi broke at some point. I ODIN'd to stock no root ICS and it was fixed. Still working after OTA JB and auto CF root.
Got my M8 the other day and noticed my MMS through Hangouts wasnt working while I had WIFI on, I turned of WIFI and MMS worked right away. I did some searching and found that people from verizon and att also having this issue but there was no solution. Thought I would post this here to see if anyone else is having this issue and if there is a fix. Never had this issue on M7.

I have even tried stock messaging app as well, same issue, if my wifi is on and try to send/receive mms the 4g/lte icon comes on but just sits there trying to download, if i turn wifi completely off it comes right through
that is weird..I assume you have rebooted the phone a few times..
maybe time to call tech support, and see if your phone is defective?

rebooted several times, will call tech support but i have seen others with this same issue
I wasn't able to receive MMS while on wifi with hangouts or hoverchat unless I opened the stock messaging app. I messed with wifi and mobile priorities and APN setting and no luck so I'm using the stock app for now.
If you're using WiFi calling you can't send and receive MMS unless it's the stock app.

I'm experiencing the same issue. I actually called T-Mobile tech support and they walked me through deleting all my SMS messages in the hangouts app and then making the native app the default messaging app again. Then they wanted me to send a test MMS message to myself (using the native messaging app) and it worked. So i went back to using hangouts again and it worked for a day, and now it stopped working again. sounds like a bug in the HTC software to me.
I've always had this issue. You can help it out a bit by going into the wifi settings and setting it to be able to auto switch from wifi back to your 4G connection. Still doesn't always work. I don't send MMS often though so its not a big deal to me. Its the only thing that doesn't work for me. It does the same thing for me in the normal messaging app too. I turn wifi off and it goes though just fine. My M8 is only a few days old but most of my issues came from that same issue on my Note 3.
I can't send mms with hangouts on wifi either.
Is there a way to report this issue to HTC?

How did I never see this when I had the Note 3. It was soooooooooooo annoying. I always disabled my wifi and get it then go back to wifi. I just tested this and it works. I don't do very many MMS messages but when I get one I know it'll download correctly.

i was having the same issue ill give this a try thanks.
I'm going to have to retract my previous statement where I said it works. Yes, it does work but you have to disable wifi calling for it to work. I guess I'll have to deal with disabling wifi when I send/receieve MMS because wifi calling is a must for me.
I'd like to see TMobile fix this to work with wifi calling enabled too.
Has anyone been having delayed text messages being sent and received since the update? My wife has been having this issue with her M8. It's been intermittent but it happens almost every day to her.

I have also been having this issue. Sometimes a text message takes an hour or more for me to receive it or my recipient to receive it, other times I'll receive up to 4 of the same message in quick succession. It mostly happens when I have Wi-Fi calling enabled, as text messages don't seem to play well with it. For some reason, it completely disables the cellular radio instead of working in conjunction with it. Drives me crazy.
My wife's phone has wifi calling enabled but had cellular as the preferred connection method, so it would only switch to wifi calling if there was absolutely no signal. So I don't think in her case wifi calling was the issue. I completely turned it off just in case tho. I'm having her try another messaging app just to see (Google Messenger vs. HTC stock), but I don't think that's the problem.

Also remember that the only app that can send mms messages over wifi calling is the delivered one that comes with the phone. Any 3rd party apps (like handcent, chompsms, etc) will not be able to send mms messages over wifi calling.

I don't think she's had any issues with wifi but i'm not really sure. I know yesterday I was trying to back up her phone preparing to wipe it and I saw the wifi would go out then come back on. I was about 10 feet from the router and everything else on wifi was holding steady except for the phone. Is that similar to the issues you were having?

My issue was that the wifi would connect and then drop then connect. Also some wifi AP, it would work great. To me it was just inconsistent, so I figured in for a penny in for a pound and just wiped the phone. That worked for me, but it if didn't I was planning on re-installing TWRP and some custom ROM as my bootloader was unlocked (but I was still s-on).

Any further solutions to this problem of intermittent delayed text messages? I now have 5.1.1, and use Hangouts. I also sometimes don't get calls either, it's like the cell antenna just turns off.
From what I remember a hard reset fixed the problem for my wife's phone.
