So this issue has gotten to the point where I'm really getting fed up with my phone.
I never used to have a problem with the battery life of my Epic. I could get 12-14 hours of light to moderate usage with the stock DI18/stock battery, and 48 hours of idle time. But since the EC05 update, I can't even get through 8 hours of light usage/idle time.
I've tried everything. I use WiFi whenever possible. I'm running SRF1.1.0/Twilight1.1.0 (which I've had no problems with). I've reset the battery stats. Everytime the phone boots, I stop the DRM services, and switch airplane mode on/off. I've set the brightness to the lowest level. I've turned off background data and auto sync of accounts in the settings. I've uninstalled the Gallery. Spare Parts shows no unusual network, cpu, or wake lock behavior.
I've had to resort to buying a 2800mAh Yoobao battery. And even then, I'm lucky to get 24 hours of light/idle time. If I use the phone moderately I'll get the same usage as I used to with D18/stock battery.
Does anyone have any ideas?
How many recharges did you give it
Sent from Snarf phone
Charged to full on. Charged to full off. Cleared stats. Charged to full on. Then let it drain. Charged to full again, and I've used/charged it normally for several days now. Drain seems to be the same as its always been since I updated to EC05.

Hard reset. If that doesn't fix the issue, take it in and get a replacement. I fooled with mine for 2 weeks and never could get it to last longer than 4-5 hours with light/moderate use. Stock/rooted, Toggling airplane, downloading screen filter to lower the brightness even more, nothing mattered.
No such issues with the replacement.
You may be one of the rare unfortunate souls whom EC05 hates. Have you tried to Odin back to EB13 and see if your battery life is restored? I personally haven't seen any need for EC05 over EB13.
Tried hard reset last night. I'll wait a couple of days.
It's crossed my mind to flash back to DI18 or EB13. But then I'll miss out on all the custom roms that are now running EC05. Oh well....

Bonsai 4 and SyndicateFrozen 1.1.0 work just fine for me on EB13. No difference.
double post.
I thought that SFR1.1.0 and Twilight1.1.0 were based on EC05? How do I run SFR on EB13?

I don't believe SyndicateFrozen automatically updates you to EC05. Nonetheless, you can simply Odin the EB13 modem back to your phone after flashing the ROM.
Try stock EC05 and see if the problem is with SRF. Kill DRM, SNS, and Gallery. I've even frozen SystemUpdate. I drain 1% or less per hour on pure idle.
And SRF zealots, back off. I'm basing it on good ol' trial and error plus personal experience.
Im having the same issues. I went back to stock then flashed back up ACS 1.1.0. I flashed genocide kernel as well. the battery isn't as bad and i resorted to using autokiller set to aggressive. Most of the time its fine but it still will go back to a 50% wakelock. when this happens usually under sensor usage android system is 50% or 100%. When its 100% my phone will get warm. The only time i noticed this really happening was sometime after i got a replacement phone. Do you think its hardware related. It doesn't make sense to me. This morning my first 10% of battery lasted about 3 hours then the wake lock kicked in and it started to drop very fast. I used to make 14 hours of heavy use with this phone.
Finally flashed back to DI18 tonite. Gonna recalibrate the phone/battery and do some more testing.
I would run Spare parts and see what is eatting up all the battery.
I've run into two issues over the last few months:
1. Gallery doesn't release the sensors for some reason.
2. Phone won't sleep. Even when the screen is off.
On occasion I have to reboot my phone if I notice the battery draining fast and it stops, but really haven't come up with a reason. I don't use the stock gallery any more, I sue Qic pic.
Regularly get around 29-30 hours with 2.5 hours of screen on time.
Wow that battery life is amazing. I can't seem to get that anymore.

Just to point out, this problem started with stock ec05.
I checked with spare parts. There was nothing out of the ordinary. No wake locks, excessive network usage, or sensor usage by gallery3d. CPU spy was showing my CPU in Deep Sleep 80-90% of the time.
I did notice that the battery seemed to drain the fastest when either using a (non-idle) 4G data connection, or if I was on the phone talking (4G off).
Flashed back to DI18 a day and a half ago, rooted, and removed the sprint crap. Been having a hard time draining my 2800 battery with moderate usage, so it looks as if my battery drain is back to what it was before the EC05 update. Only problem is that the stock DI18 email app will no longer sync to my works Exchange. Dunno whats up with that. Been using touchdown trial instead.
I'm going to test for a couple of days, and then flash up to EB13 and test some more. Maybe its the EC05 modem?

I came here to post exactly this - it's probably the EC05 modem. Odin the EB13 modem and your problems will likely go away.
Alright I have been having reception issues and bad battery life, and after reading this thread I think that is my problem.
I am running SFR 1.1.0 and Vision 1.1.0 kernel oc to 1.3 setcpu on demand, on EC05.
So I assume I just use odin and flash the EB13 modem, nothing has to be wiped and backed up?
Also, just noticed my gallery also keeps the sensors on, is there a fix for this?
Uninstall Gallery, and install QuickPic. I've actually found quickpic to have much better image quality than the gallery.

Correct, no need to wipe anything, just flash the modem. As for Gallery, delete it from /system/app and install another app of your choice, like QuickPic.
The other morning I woke up and unplugged my phone and the "Unplug your phone" notification wouldn't go away and the phone thought it was still plugged in. If I rebooted it would just turn off and keep going from the green batter charging icon to a black screen and back. Only way I could turn the phone on would be to actually plug it in again. Problem fixed itself that evening and the phone was fine for a couple days. Today the phone started with the same thing.
I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on this specific issue. Any insight? Thanks in advance.
Brand new ept4g and I got 6hrs of battery life its so lame I have hack so much bad luck with this bad boy but I'm not giving up.

This isn't a battery consumption issue...
Anybody have this problem yet?

I'm having the same problems the last few days. Also when I unplug my phone I get a red exclamation point over my battery widget, when i open the widget it says that the battery is over voltage and the red led light won't go off. Think i'm about to go see what best buy does for me. Been dealing w/ this problem for a few days now.
Did you get a replacement? I haven't had any free time to go to sprint with my problem. It is still happening often though.
I had a similar issue the other morning. Though my phone would only boot back up in recovery mode. I reflashed it to out of the box stock but that didn't make any difference. When it did boot up it would show that it was connected to the usb port but it would not be plugged into anything. I plugged it into a usb port on my computer that I hadn't used with the phone before and it reloaded the drivers on my computer and "that" issue went away. After turning phone off it would start rebooting itself immediately or with in a few seconds of turning off. I let the battery die completely and then recharged it and the automatic reboot went away, at least for most of the day, but last night I turned the phone back off and it rebooted itself. I did reroot and restore my phone after I got it to not show the usb connected or the battery charging while the phone was off icon. Just wish I could figure out why it wants to automatically reboot itself when I shut it off.
Same issue here

Haven't had the time to get a replacement but the problem still exists...

My Battery Monitor Widget shows a max of 1500mah? Wtf? And a measured of under 1200?
No wonder my battery life is crazy low...

I figured a way to shut the phone off and not have it automatically reboot. If after shutting the phone off the normal way and once the screen goes black but before the capacitive lights go out, if I again press the power button, the phone finally shuts down without rebooting itself. Not sure why this is happening but at least I can get it to turn off now.
I found better battery life by determining which app or apps drain the battery. I used Battert spy, cpu spy and system tuner. My problem was Touchdown exchange for Androir 2.x. I switched to Moxier Mail. I would get hours on moderate to heavy use. I got 22.5 hours yesterday on moderate use.
I was flying to Denver earlier this week and turned on airplane mode and started listening to music. Right away the phone started to get really hot, to the point that I thought it might damage the phone. If I look at the battery tracker, the battery line goes almost straight down. Tried turning it off, pulling the battery, but it still happens. I got to Denver, turned it on and turned off airplane mode and everything was back to normal. Thought it might have been some short-term glitch but on the flight back, same exact thing. Only happens in airplane mode and if I turn off airplane mode, everything works fine. I had music on the SD card but I pulled it and put the music on the internal memory but that didn't fix it. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I know it could be an app but wanted to see if anyone else had this problem or knows of a another way to try and diagnose / fix this before I wipe everything. Thanks.
Hello, I have recently re-flashed to stock on my E980, I am running the phone on the AIO network as an unlocked device (although it would run fine if it were ATT locked as well).
I am looking for ideas to why I am having a problem. So it goes like this...
The phone randomly turns off. It seems to happen in my pocket, not on the desk. When I go to turn it back on, it is unresponsive unless I pull the battery or plug it into AC. If I plug it in before pulling the battery, it says not enough power to turn on. If I pull the Battery and turn it on the homescreen loads and I have plenty of battery in the upper corner (75% or so). When the homescreen loads, its fine for awhile, then back to step 1.
I am currently unrooted (just flashed back using LG flash tools) however the problem was first noted on a rooted stock ROM. I installed CM11 thinking that maybe it was something in the ROM that was initally causing this and a new ROM was in store for me... Did it on CM 11 too. Then I reflashed to Stock and I am still having this issue.
I have tried most everything and my thought is that the battery is either toast or not being recognized properly. I do not have immediate access to a different battery, but I think i can get my hands on one... If I replace it, I'm thinking it would take me an hour or so to replicate the problem and I still wouldn't be certain that was the culprit.
Anyone have any ideas, or things I could try out before trying to source a test battery, or does this not sound like a battery issue?
hey
i got the same problem
gonna have new battery soon and see if its from this
the sell man told me its could be the ROM
gonna try the modem of e980H
I've been having a similar problem as you, and actually had the device factory reset while in my pocket. Going to try and find a battery around my area, and hoping it fixes the problem. Have you noticed any heating issues as well before the reboot?
yea its getting so heated and drain the battery so fast
i think cos its trying to find single i had that problem with rezound too
i think there connection when its got heat -> drain the battey > and also kills the battery after few times
I'm sorry for the title, but I couldn't think of a better description.
I usually put my D855 in flight mode at night and turn it off when I leave my house - when at home, I only turn WiFi on. While in flight mode after a reboot, my battery life is really good and it doesn't get warm at all. But when I turn it off but proceed to browse through WiFi, it gets really warm and the battery drains quickly. When I turn flight mode on again without rebooting, it still gets warm until I reboot.
This drain only occurs while the screen is on, not while in standby.
This is really weird.
This issue occurs on all roms I've tried (including stock roms) and with the V10 modem as well as with all V20 modems.
Do you think it's a hardware problem? My sim tray is damaged a bit, but that shouldn't cause an issue like that, the sim still gets recognized fine.
I'm using a Telco sim card and it's pretty old (it's still a non-LTE-sim), but unfortunately I don't have any other micro sim cards to try.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you,
Xerionius
