I'm sorry for the title, but I couldn't think of a better description.
I usually put my D855 in flight mode at night and turn it off when I leave my house - when at home, I only turn WiFi on. While in flight mode after a reboot, my battery life is really good and it doesn't get warm at all. But when I turn it off but proceed to browse through WiFi, it gets really warm and the battery drains quickly. When I turn flight mode on again without rebooting, it still gets warm until I reboot.
This drain only occurs while the screen is on, not while in standby.
This is really weird.
This issue occurs on all roms I've tried (including stock roms) and with the V10 modem as well as with all V20 modems.
Do you think it's a hardware problem? My sim tray is damaged a bit, but that shouldn't cause an issue like that, the sim still gets recognized fine.
I'm using a Telco sim card and it's pretty old (it's still a non-LTE-sim), but unfortunately I don't have any other micro sim cards to try.
Any help is appreciated!
Thank you,
Xerionius

I was flying to Denver earlier this week and turned on airplane mode and started listening to music. Right away the phone started to get really hot, to the point that I thought it might damage the phone. If I look at the battery tracker, the battery line goes almost straight down. Tried turning it off, pulling the battery, but it still happens. I got to Denver, turned it on and turned off airplane mode and everything was back to normal. Thought it might have been some short-term glitch but on the flight back, same exact thing. Only happens in airplane mode and if I turn off airplane mode, everything works fine. I had music on the SD card but I pulled it and put the music on the internal memory but that didn't fix it. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? I know it could be an app but wanted to see if anyone else had this problem or knows of a another way to try and diagnose / fix this before I wipe everything. Thanks.
I bought myself Arc S, it came loaded with .62 firmware. On my initial run, battery ran for about a day, later on for two or maybe even three days. Then I started to work in another country. As far as I remember, battery life was the same, even though the network was not (where I work now is 2G only, in my home country 3G). Then one day messed around with a Xperia S apps, did a stupid mistake and started to get force closes with launcher. I had to repair software.
Since the software reinstallation, my battery life degraded to less than a day without even touching it. Therefore I installed Battery Monitor Widget, to see, what is going on. I noticed, that battery drainage is about 70-110 ma in average, as far as I know, it should be much lower (under 30ma?). I have to say, that I tested this with .62, .42 firmware and it's all the same. When I turn phone to airplane mode, energy consumption lowers to under 5ma - which is normal i guess.
It began to bug me even more, as we bought small alarm clock with radio. I noticed, that when this alarm clock is on, despite from 2 other phones our room, my Arc S is the only phone, which makes this kind of searching-for-signal or calling speaker interference (noise coming out of speaker). My phone does that all the time, even in idle mode. This can be also heard when we have our TV on on. So, if I don't want to hear that, I have to unplug the alarm clock or put my phone into airplane, which sucks.
I asked a guy next building, if he has the same problems with Arc S, and he says that his phone can live up to 5 days with one charge (is connected to the same network provider), so I guess it is not network related?
I wonder, is there a possibility, my phone's radio is broken somehow? Or it was faulty, and firmware reinstall somehow broke it to the end? So that is draining battery all the time - looking for signal? Any way to fix this? Flashing different base bands did not help, tried that already...anybody knows a fix for this, apart from returning it to my provider - since I'm 4 months away from my country
Anybody heard for any similar problem with Arc S?
Thanks in advance! (if needed, I can also post battery usage screenshot, but I think it's not much of a help)

That seems like the issue here if I'm understanding you correctly. If you don't have 3G service where you currently are, and you did not turn off 3G, your phone will constantly try and find a 3G signal.
Airplane mode fixing the issue makes this seem even more likely. Try disabling 3G and see if it helps.
Problem is, that's what I did almost instantly when I came here, I set it to GSM only. One thing I noticed right now, when I check into About phone, under Mobile network type, my Arc S has: UNKNOWN, where my friends HTC says EDGE. Maybe here lies a problem? Why my phone can't detect network type?
Incredibly, I found the reason for my drainage and signal search. When I came into that country where I work now, my provider offered me to turn off data transfer (provider turns it off for me). Of course I did not want any unintended data transfer, so I turned it off by sending sms to service number. After I reinstalled software (that was my first reboot here), phone couldn't find network type for that reason, and was searching for it all the time. Yesterday I allowed data transfer by sms again, phone found EDGE network, can't hear any more noise on our alarm clock and battery drainage is about 4% per 8,5 hour. Excellent
I hope this helps anyone out there with drainage problems.
I think you can also turn off/disable data transfer/traffic with the Data traffic widget, if you want to avoid using data.
xperia arc s
hold up, i dont understand. so im pretty sure i have the same problem. get about 17 hours with berely using my phone on any rom/kernal/firmware. even with data turned off, betterbatterystats shows 'noor unknown signal' and 'no data conection'? i sued to able to get 3 or more days out of my phone??
I think there is an application, which might be keeping the phone alive.
dout it, still drains after a complete rom wipe
So here is the problem. My phone drains battery when there is nothing that is supposed to be draining it. In my house I have 4 bars reception (Max Reception) and wifi on or LTE. After using it for a bit and then closing all apps and shutting the screen. My phone starts its "heat mode", starts heating up. about 1 percent every 2 mins. I have tried stock, custom roms, and factory restoring and still nothing. I have had this problem for months now. Should bring it to my carrier company to fix it? Or is there another thing that's affecting it?
For the screenshots it starts off normal over night then it after use it declines.
EDIT: Problem on stock, stock rooted, carbon, hyperdrive, intergalactic
This does not sound like normal behavior. I'd use factory warranty and get a replacement.

Have you checked under settings / battery to see if anything is running high? Also check settings/applications and slide over to processes. Is it possible it is the media scanner? If so it could b a corrupted file possibly left behind from a theme or bad picture. You should be able to back up what you need from internal SD and do a factory reset from the settings. I accidently erased my external SD so use caution and read all it is asking. You shouldn't need to take it back yet.
Get Better Battery Stats and see if you can track down the wake lock that is killing it. It looks like from the last picture that once wifi was turned on, it experienced a hard drain.
Honestly, my phone does the same thing from time to time and I am still trying to figure out what it might be. In the interim, a reboot always fixes the problem.
I would warranty the phone. But just out of curiosity have you tried a different radio? Are you on the most up to date radio for your carrier? Also have you tried rebooting after the plummet starts and if so does it fix it for a while? I know that some postings have noted a problem with the LTE switch when on a phone call. I know that when I have LTE on and make any phone calls, at some random time over a few days it will happen to me until I reboot. If I keep LTE off, it does not happen. I am not saying this is your issue, but I am just trying to narrow the possibility.

Well thanks guys. Im going to send my phone back to my carrier. i think its antenna problems so i might get a replacement
Hello, I have recently re-flashed to stock on my E980, I am running the phone on the AIO network as an unlocked device (although it would run fine if it were ATT locked as well).
I am looking for ideas to why I am having a problem. So it goes like this...
The phone randomly turns off. It seems to happen in my pocket, not on the desk. When I go to turn it back on, it is unresponsive unless I pull the battery or plug it into AC. If I plug it in before pulling the battery, it says not enough power to turn on. If I pull the Battery and turn it on the homescreen loads and I have plenty of battery in the upper corner (75% or so). When the homescreen loads, its fine for awhile, then back to step 1.
I am currently unrooted (just flashed back using LG flash tools) however the problem was first noted on a rooted stock ROM. I installed CM11 thinking that maybe it was something in the ROM that was initally causing this and a new ROM was in store for me... Did it on CM 11 too. Then I reflashed to Stock and I am still having this issue.
I have tried most everything and my thought is that the battery is either toast or not being recognized properly. I do not have immediate access to a different battery, but I think i can get my hands on one... If I replace it, I'm thinking it would take me an hour or so to replicate the problem and I still wouldn't be certain that was the culprit.
Anyone have any ideas, or things I could try out before trying to source a test battery, or does this not sound like a battery issue?
hey
i got the same problem
gonna have new battery soon and see if its from this
the sell man told me its could be the ROM
gonna try the modem of e980H
I've been having a similar problem as you, and actually had the device factory reset while in my pocket. Going to try and find a battery around my area, and hoping it fixes the problem. Have you noticed any heating issues as well before the reboot?
yea its getting so heated and drain the battery so fast
i think cos its trying to find single i had that problem with rezound too
i think there connection when its got heat -> drain the battey > and also kills the battery after few times
mym s4 mini i9195 overheats when sim card inserted, doesnt matter if screen is on/off, tried cm 13,cm 12,stock rom but still same result... What can be the problem? I don't have any other phone to use right now so this is my only hope
Changing the modem doesn't seem to fix this problem, Putting it into airplane mode cools it off quickly, wifi and cellular radio drain the battery the most, please help me, i really need the phone
