[Q] Galaxy s3 i747m Won't Power on... - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

I have a stock factory unlocked i747m. It used to connect to the computer via usb no problem but than it had some contact with water and would only connect to charge after that - everything else worked fine. Than I downloaded the new android update, hit install, my phone turned off and it won't come back on. When I press the power button it briefly shows a screen that says 'SAMSUNG' with the words 'Recovery booting...' in blue letters in the top left corner. That screen stays on for 2 seconds and than the phone just shuts itself off.
I can't get into recovery mode, tried everything -- volume up home power .. volume down home power .. volume down power -- nothing works. Before this update it would charge via usb cable but was unrecognized in ODIN and Computer (windows 7 x64).
Is there a way to unbrick it or is the motherboard done for?
Don't suppose theres a better or cheaper way to fix it myself than this http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-jtag-brick-repair/

I hate to see questions like this go unanswered. I'm sure you're in a world of hurt right now and would be willing to try almost anything. My first thought would be to consider pleading with the store for a doa return or 30 day exchange. If that is out of the question then you may need to look into whether a usb jig will work for you. The issue their is that you were having usb/computer recognition problems before so it's impossible to say if that will work either. I have never had to use that JTAG brick service but their website seems convincing enough. Reviews of that service look like the cost all in will be around $100, but I would be sure they will still take it with the water damage. I think I would contact JTAG and fire it to them with hopes of a speedy return. Just my two cents...

[Q] [Assistance Needed]GT N7100 issues

Hi Guys,
I have my N7100 for almost 3 months now and yesterday my son accidentally spilled water on it. The whole unit did not get wet, just the side where the volume rocker is. And it switched off by itself. I removed the battery and let it dry for a few hours. I switched it on and yes it did turn on but one volume button ( - ) is not working and the back and menu keys are not working also and it does not recognize any touch on the screen but when I used the S-Pen it recognized it. It's a rooted, heavy customized and tweaked phone. I noticed that it went to "safe mode", it was indicated on the lower left side of the screen and all installed apps were gone. DPi value went into default. I tried to install some apps, it went successfully but I can not find it in the apps drawer. I went into recovery mode, hoping to remove it in safe mode (foolish me, did not even tried to read or search on xda for possible fix), re-flash a custom ROM but same thing. I also found that the two water damage indicators inside the phone turned pink. The components inside were dry when I opened it, but because I am eager to fix it I tried using a hair dryer to (of course) dry it a little bit without damaging anything. After a while I put everything all together, switched it on and it now recognized "touch". But issues with volume key ( - ) and menu&back buttons still remain and it is still in safe mode. I decided to restore it to factory default via recovery mode, I cleared everything, reformatted system, data, all menus with the word "reformat' I pressed them all. Restarted the phone and it just stays on the logo where it says "Samsung Galaxy Note II GT N7100". Tried to go back to recovery mode but with no avail. I tried to go to Download mode also, I was able to make it to the part where it says "press volume up to continue; press volume down to cancel" I then pressed volume up but nothing happens. I pressed the volume up and same thing. Tried to charge it while it is switched off, the battery icon charging appeared, it shows the circle animation but it does not animate and it doesn't animate also like it's charging itself. Plugged it into my laptop and it doesn't recognize it. I've been reading some XDA articles and I only came acrossed one possible way to resurrect it...To get Download Mode without 3-button combo using homemade JIG. Well, I know for a fact that I need to send this to Samsung Service center but I am still hoping that someone here might help me or I may still find other alternative solutions without spending a lot of $$$ in sending it for a repair. Thanks in advance!
Apparently u have formatted system partition. Have u try flash via PC odin? Maybe the download mode will work with odin
Yeah, that's what I thought also. Foolish me! Apparently I can't even try Odin since my laptop does not recognize the phone. I can't even go to the download mode. It was stuck on the part where it says Volume Up: Continue, Volume Down: Cancel.
hmm.. seems like the hard key for the volume are done for. since u already disassemble it, cant u use the manual way to press? it u able to go into download mode, the driver will auto download, well at least it auto download for me
Tried that also mate, but no luck. I think the phone does not recognize the volume rocker. I just noticed that when I pressed and hold the menu key plus the power button it goes to the page where it says volume up: continue...where you are supposed to press volume down+power+menu key right? I tried to press the volume up key to continue but no luck. I was browsing xda the whole day to search for an answer before I send this so Samsung service center. I tried a homemade jig so I can go to download mode but it does not work. I have read that other SGNII users were able to make it work. On the instructions it says to use 3pcs of 100K ohm and a 1k ohm resistors but I used 6pcs of 50k ohm + 1k resistors (since I can't find any 100k ohm resistor on any electronic store near my place) connected it to pin 4 and 5 of a micro usb plug and still no luck, nothing happens. Tried some several combinations.
I have don't have good sleep since my Note II died...Haven't eat properly...Yeah, you read it right...hahaha..Still trying to search for possible fixes, it's 12:40am now and I am almost sleepy, if I still can't find any solutions until tomorrow then I will be sending this to Samsung Service center
or....if Adam will reply on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39387670 then I am willing to dismantle and do whatever he wants me to do just to resurrect the phone...
Can you go into recovery mode? If yes try adb reboot recovery or reboot to bootloader if you have twrp.
this is XXXDDDAAA
Like what I explained on the first post mate, Recovery and Download modes are not possible/can't access them...

the problem is because your volume rocker key and power button are shorted due to water content.. i recommend that you take it to a service center before something worse happens... dont turn on your phone again until its cleaned properly and dried.. take it to proper service ... else its very bad for your device.. coz it can get permanently dead
Yeah, that's what I am going to do today. I surrender can't find any solutions anymore. Will keep you guys posted. Thanks anyway!
It's with Samsung Service Center now. It's OOW and they were able to find out that it was rooted (of course!) I paid Php1,200 under the table (on one of the technicians) and now it's In-Warranty again hahaha, but I have to leave the phone for a couple of days or weeks since they need to replace some hardwares. I think that's the best thing I can do instead of paying more for an OOW repair. sad sad sad..weeks without my phone with me...going back to my old phones for the meantime...

Bricked or power button trouble?

A few days ago I looked at my phone and the 'Device Options' menu kept appearing over and over as if someone was holding the power button down. I managed to turn off the phone and since then I haven't been able to get it to reboot. The phone will boot to either the 'SAMSUNG' or 'Samsung Galaxy SIII' logo screens and then the screen goes blank. I can occasionally get the phone to start booting into recovery mode but it turns off before getting to the menu, same thing with download mode. This seems to be getting worse as well, as the first few times I tried to get to recovery mode I could at least get to the menu before it turned off.
The phone will not charge either. I can get the charging indicator (red LED) to come on if I remove battery, plug in USB cable then reinsert battery. However, the battery does not actually get a charge when I do this.
I have tried swapping in fresh batteries, removing SD card, removing SIM card with no effect. I tried taking the phone apart and I can't see any problems with the power switch.
Any ideas on what is going on? I am two months out of warranty. I have ordered a USB jig since I thought it was bricked from a firmware/software issue but now I am wondering if it is actually a power button problem.
The phone is a Rogers Galaxy SIII, not rooted, running stock firmware.
Thanks.
I have the exact same problem. Only I'm on CM 11. It will let me boot into recovery and download mode but reboots after about 5 seconds in each.

If it's a stuck power button problem, this is usually indicated by the phone powering on itself once the battery inserted. In most cases, pulling out and replacing the battery would be the only way to power on/off the phone. This doesn't seem quite like what you are describing. Also, a brick is unlikely if you weren't trying to flash any firmware as you mentioned it's stock and not rooted. Sounds like a (not too serious) hardware problem which may require professional attention. If you can manage to get into recovery mode, you may try to do a hard wipe/reset.
If the s3 comes apart like the s4 open it up, take off the screws and pop the housing off. See if the button under the housing is stuck

It usually does do this. I can't see or feel that anything is physically wrong with the power button though,

I took it apart, the button looks fine, it's not stuck, seems to click normally.
Thanks for the input everyone.
Turned out to be the power button. Took it in to a repair shop, they put in a new switch and it is back to normal.

[Q] Hard soft brick???

Until two hours ago my I747 was running fine. I picked it up and attempted to unlock it and got nothing. I decided to try to pull the battery and do a reboot, it got to the KT747 splash screen from the kernel I run and went black. I tried booting into recover and download mode. Recovery mode gives me the little blue text at the top left of the screen indicating its booting to recover, black screen and nothing. Download mode pops the warning screen and 2 seconds later, whether I press up to continue or not, it goes black screen as well. I was running a rooted version of TW 4.4.2 with the TW version of Ktoonsez most recent kernel. I have been running this combination for over a week with no issues. I tried creating a 16gb debrick sd card but the phone doesn't want to stay on long enough to boot to anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If there is any other information I can provide, please let me know and I will add it.
****edit for more info*****
I tried having odin open on the pc while i booted into download mode. Removed battery and usb cable from the phone, inserted battery while holding vol down and home. Download mode came up, pressed up to enter and quickly inserted the USB cable. Odin detected the phone and one second later shows it was removed. I have tried multiple USB cables as well.
****edit for still more info****
After several hours of cussing and google searching I came across a thread that described my issue perfectly. The solution turned out to be a stuck power button on the phone. Just like my phone, the one in the thread would boot immediately when the battery was inserted and shut off at the splash screen. Recovery and download mode both did the same, as does my phone. The site suggested rapidly tapping the power button to jar it loose. This did not work for me. Neither did the suggestion of sliding a finger nail into the gap between the chassis and power button. I went so far as to disassemble the phone and remove the physical button from the case. I put the battery back in and the phone booted immediately. The problem persists, the phone shuts off completely after a 2 - 3 seconds. This occurs with the battery in or with the battery out on USB power.
Sometimes messing around with the power button will work, but not always. Its only a temporary solution in most cases anyway.
The switch appears to have gone bad and will need to be replaced. I believe the part is only a few bucks if you want to DIY. Otherwise most local cell phone shops can do the repair relatively cheap from what ive been told.

[Q] Sumsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (SM-T805) screen went black

My tablet Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (SM-T805) screen went black. I can’t see the screen.
Touch also does not seem to work. However it’s on. it is receiving calls and other messages. It is connected to WiFi.
Power button, volume button are working but I can’t power off the device cause I can’t see the screen options.
When I plug in to the charging cable it vibrates but does not show anything on screen.
It didn’t drop and hit by anything…i have been using it for 3 months now. it just happened by itself or may be by some update that I don’t know.
Please help how to bring it back to life
Are you able to get into download or recovery? I've never heard of something like this before. Maybe go ahead and let it die and then plug it back in and see if you can get into download mode by holding home+power+volume down then re flash your stock firmware or whatever you were using. Or do home+power+volume up to get into recovery. If you still have stock recovery then you can just do a factory reset right from that but if your using something TWRP then your still going to need to flash something after wiping your data.
Not sure how else you can get it to shut off since you can't see it. Even knowing where the power menu is once you press the button it would still be tough to hit the right thing. I'd say let it die. Maybe someone else can come shed some light. Of course it could be a hardware problem as well. I'm leaning toward software still though.
If your still completely stock I'd say let it die and get into stock recovery. Home+power+volume up and then wipe data and do a factory reset. Now if the screen stays black after its off and you've plugged in the charging cable then I'd imagine there's a more a serious problem going on.
Yes I am waiting for battery to be completely drained out. I will try your method once the battery is completely dead.
thanks
Your welcome let me know how it goes. Will do my best to help.
I don't have my tab with me right now but can't you hold power button for 10 sec to force a reboot? All Android device I ever had could do that.

Doest work on t805 holding powerbutton, just hold the buttons for download mode and that will force it to reset and prompt you to press volume down to cancel volume up to continue...hold for 30 seconds, and if nothing appears let go and just press volume up once, still no joy then pop back cover off and unclip and reclip battery if your brave, thats what i did before i new about this quicker way.
How to run the battery completely down..? its still active and on... though not showing anything on screen.
Is there any quicker way... ?
To do a hard-reset on these Samsung devices, you need to hold Power + Home + Volume Down until it reboots. On every other device it's just Power. Some it's Power+Home. For some reason Samsung likes to be different.
Or if you have previously enabled USB Debugging, you can plug it in to your computer and do an ADB Reboot.
Power + volume down + volume up works for me as reset.

Holy crap the dude is right....just tried that myself on t805, holding all 3 buttons at same time in top left corner power, vol dwn, vol, up forces a simple reset without dwnload mode rubbish.

Screen froze, asked for reboot, now nothing

My wife was typing and the screen froze, she pushed the power button was the reboot or power off box appeared. She selected reboot and the screen went dark and now nothing comes on no matter how long the power button or power + power up or power down is held. I plugged in the charger and the battery icon does not appear. Could the connection from the motherboard to the screen have come loose? It seems strange that it would die coincidentally after requesting a reboot. Another other suggestions before I try to sell it as a paperweight on Ebay?

It depend on if you had TWRP Recovery installed on your tablet. Was this an original setup device or a custom ROM? If it was custom, you should have the necessary files to reinstall from scratch. If you know you do have TWRP Recovery installed (IIRC, it would not show up as an installed app) then to access it you need to push POWER, HOME button (middle front panel)and VOLUME +(up)at the same time! This will get you into recovery mode. Then, you would have to reinstall your custom ROM and gapps from backups. If you don't have these you may still be able to repair it via a Windows PC connection with the right files.
When you post probs you are having, the more info that you include, the better chance you will get a solution for it. I have three smp600 tabs, all configured the same way with multiple backups for each on SD cards as well as Google Drive cloud. So, I can have any tab restored fully in under an hour. Whatever you do, good luck, but it takes a lot to truly "brick" one! ;-DeanoD=

Thanks. It was running stock Lollipop with no custom recovery. When I was taking the back off to see if a connection was loose I could hear audio but I did not find a loose connection so it's still dead.?
