This is a tutorial to connect direct streaming from the SGS3 to the PS3.
Note: I used Xillisoft to change the video format to MP4 standard (works better) Transfer to the phone (Do not convert, copy as is.)
First go to settings and set it up like this:
** For first time media server set up, PS3 Settings **
IN Settings/Network Settings
go through using
1. Settings method: custom
2. Connection method: wired connection
3. Operation mode: auto detect
4. IP address: automatic
5. DHCP: do not set
6. DNS: automatic
7. MTU: automatic
8. Proxy server: do not use
9. "UPNP: enable"
Then press X to save settings.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
EDIT: WIFI must be enabled, The network relies on this.
Path on device: (Settings/More Settings/ Nearby Devices)
------BEFORE YOU CHECK (File Sharing)-------
1.Shared Contents:/ check all
2.Device Name: (mine is SGH-T999/Orical)
3.Access Control: (Only Allowed Devices)
4.Allowed Device List: UPnP/1.0 (This is the GS3) and Windows-Media-Player ( if your connected to your computer as well)
5.Not Allowed Device List: (none)
6.Download to: (USB storage)
7.Upload to other devices: (Always Ask) *Important*
---Now to the PS3---
Go into settings and enable media server (Also See Below) then sync the device to the PS3 by checking Nearby Devices.
Depending on the amount of media you have on the Phone this can take a minute or two before it finishes.
Once it's connected you'll see the "SGH-T999/Your Name Here" within the columns labled Video, Pictures, Music.
If your looking for a video under the pictures column on the PS3 it's not going to display it and will tell you their not
there so make sure your under the correct column on the PS3 for what ever your going to stream.
Not sure if this is going to matter to some but my set up is ethernet between the router and the PS3 (Not wireless), the
connection works better and transfers information quicker if your directly connected. I have all of the parental set to off.
***Here's a few other settings you want to check if you have any problems.***

PS. I'm not a big thanks hog but I know some people are having a hard time getting this to work, if this helps please hit the button so I know it actually helped someone out there.
If you need more help post in the thread and I'll do the best I can to respond as quick as possible, before anyone asks I dont have a 360 so I can't physically test it but I'm working on a PS Vita method soon. Thanks for reading.
Hey there guy I'm just wondering what app it is on the phone that lets you do this cause when I go into settings> more settings> nearby devices I can't tick the file share option and I think I may have just uninstalled it I should have a titanium backup of the app so I can restore it but no idea what its called. Any help?

It's not an App this is actually built into the system so it should work no matter what, this allows you to direct transfer or stream information to another device, the PS3 see's it as a media server device because of the way the system is set up.
I would check to see if you can connect or even get to turn on wifi direct, maybe you removed a system file or something that you shouldn't have. You have to have WIFI enabled because this works through your router.
Is this better than using a upnp app like Twonky server that transcodes media on the fly? I don't do any streaming really to my PS3, but just wondering in case I ever do...

If it works for you that way sure but the purpose if that app is for people who dont have devices that can do what ours does normally. I saw a few people post that they had a hard time setting it up so I figured I would post it, the GS3 does an amazing job on its own and the clarity is all in what you use to convert the movies with.

I tried this out, and it's not working for me at all. Anything you might have left out?
EDIT: I believe that I found out why I can't get this to work. My network connection says "uPnP NOT ENABLED" After reading online a little, I guess that my ISP has my router locked down (it's their company provided one). So people, check this setting when you run "TEST CONNECTION" on your PS3. if it's not enabled, you will have to do it manually (if you can log into your router).

I edited the OP for those whom have never set up the network on their PS3's before with UPNP enabled, I just assumed that everyone set it up prior to this, my bad. (Thanks for pointing it out)
Side note I have it listed as wired connection, it doesn't have to be exactly the way I did for this setting, if your using wireless then choose wireless.

How did you get the usb mass storage mode working...? I tried on the PS3 and Vizio TV. On PS3 it just said "Unknown USB Device connected" One of the reasons I LOVE my HD2... real USB drive mode.. =D
Also thanks OP.. I forgot I had dlna mode on the S3 heh.. That would be one solution indeed.

The device is designed to work as if it is a media center itself so you have to think about connections used with that method, I had a tough time at first because all the devices I had were HTC variants in the past. Let the device work the way its meant to and it will get easier as you figure it out.

Sounds like you might have removed sharecast or another media app by Samsung, that's the only reason that would happen.

You should sign up for Google app inventor. You might be able to make it yourself. It's a simple interface, and you dont' need to be a developer or programmer to understand it. It might time consuming, but it would let you customize to exactly what you are looking for.

Hey recently ive decided that I want to replace my stereo in my car with a mac mini and an external tough screen. I first thought I would try to use the HDMI feature of the Evo to view my phone on the screen, but I would want it to be interactive on the screen. So then I decided I should find a program that will allow me to use my Evo through a usb cord so the Evo displays on in a window on my mac or windows pc and i can interact with it from there. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? Or does anyone wanna take on this project?

hahaha i know. but those run through the web and i cant share the same connection if im creating the wifi form my phone.
and the ones that i found that go through usb, which is 1, refreshes and 4 frames a second =/
you could wire up a wifi router..
Here's the thread he was talking about: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971209
Anyway...
I used this: Droid VNC Server (FREE, requires root)
And this: VNC® Viewer Free Edition 4.1 for Windows (also free)
It's pretty choppy, but it works.
If you don't have Windows, pretty much any VNC viewer will work, there's lots of them out there (Google it).
Appreciate it. And yea. The last two days I've been doing research and trying out different ones, and everything had been laggy or choppy. I made this hoping to find a hidden gem that worked perfectly or someone that knew how to get it working flawlessly

Hi all,
I am trying to access my pc from the internet. Silently boot it, access the PC, files and even use the camera to see what's going on in the house while I am away, listen to people and finally shut it down.. All remotely from my android device from internet. 3G or WiFi at a friends place.
Software I am using : wake on LAN from play store. For booting my PC from LAN and team viewer and unified remote for controlling the PC.
Where I am not successful : booting it from internet. Can anyone here let me know whether anyone has such a setup?
Device : HTC one x, CM 10.1 RC1
Router : Netgear
Dynamic IP : yes

Set up a dynamic DNS client. If you're using windows:
Get an account at freedns.afraid.org, and go to subdomains. Set up a new subdomain.
Then download http://www.techknowpro.com/freedns/ and login to your afraid.org account through the application, and keep it running. It will automatically update the IP of the subdomain to lead to your computer.
Just locally forward all the ports necessary.
Then connect via the subdomain rather than your IP.
Alternatively you can request a static IP from your ISP but you might need to pay more.

Click add or go to this link http://freedns.afraid.org/subdomain/edit.php.
For type, keep it as A. For subdomain, type in the domain prefix, i.e.: the "luiejongen" part in "luiejongen.xda-developers.com." You can choose anything as domain. Leave destination as default as the site will automatically input your current IP address on the computer you are using into the box. Don't check wildcard, and then click save.
You now have a subdomain!
Now, we want the destination IP to update automatically instead of us having to go in and change it every time our numeric, dynamic IP changes. On Windows, go here and download the FreeDNS Updater: http://www.techknowpro.com/freedns/. After downloading, open it and log in to your afraid.org account with it.
On Ubuntu, you can follow these directions to set up DNS updating: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1758930. Even though it says the tutorial is for Lucid, it still works on Quantal and Raring. You could probably adapt it for other Linux distros if you can get inadyn running on other distros.
I am not sure about Mac OS X, however.
Here is the complete list of FreeDNS compatible DNS updater clients: http://freedns.afraid.org/scripts/freedns.clients.php.
If you have any other questions, please ask me!
You could try no-ip.org. Most routers let you configure the service on them.
If you set up something that runs on your computer, when you shut it down, your ip might change and it won't get updated.
If the service is running on your router, your ip will stay updated. Then you can access by the address yourusername.no-ip.org.

Hi,
If you need it all to work without having the FreeDNS update on all the time, then you need to request a static IP from your ISP.
As for number 2, I'm not sure. I have never run into that error before.

I don't know if is useful but I have a Blu Ray player and in order to share things I have to turn on the file sharing feature, then it appears a popup note that says: "BD46785 is trying to access your device" I click allow and thats all I do. I think it looks for devices automatically.

7. you should see response "List of devices attached" and next line with ID and device
8. If you see the device listed then copy and past the commands from the excel spread sheet. You can do this individually for confirmation or you can copy the whole column and let it do it's thing.
Every item on the spreadsheet I did on my phone and confirmed that it's off. I've been using it for couple of days and had no errors or force close of any apps.
Feel free to post your findings if you think others can be disabled.
duplicate thread.. mods please close.. thanks
But you can disable most bloat anyways without disabling. I'm confused as to what this is actually accomplishing.

Some apps you cannot disable from the phone. With this method you can disable those too, namely Knox and 'AT&T Software update'.
Nice work. I just rolled back from the newest update to the one that came with my phone. I had issues after my phone auto updated. Blocked everything you had listed on your spreadsheet. I'll follow up if anything is amiss. Thanks again OP.
Did anyone try this on a Note Edge?

if you're using fx file explorer, you'll see "ENABLED" in green by the bottom when you go to info of the APK or package before BLOCKING.
after blocking the package, go back in to info and you'll see the "ENABLED" gone.
to test, you can take the app Evernote. disable the package and you'll see the app dissapear from the app drawer, and when you unblock it it'll come back.

to elaborate, and using evernote as the example, take a look at these two screenshots. if you are confused, they will help clear things up.
in FX explorer, long press on the package name for the app you want to inquire about, in this case we want to inquire about evernote, so in the system/app folder find the evernote apk, Evernote_ATT.apk in this case. long press on it and press "details" you should see a screen like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
now when you run the adb command to block, you should see something like:
this particular case, as insang-droid mentioned, you can check the app drawer, but not in all cases does the app show in the app drawer, so use this method to check in those instances.
Xlr8shun.. Awesome.. And fantastic hand writing BTW... I wish my hand writing was as ledgible.
smart select
Works great definitely seeing an improvement.
One problem tho, i followed OPs app list and disabled them successfully but now my smart select action isnt working properly. Im guessing one of the packages handles it butbim unable to pinpoint it. Still checking packages but im not so hot at this. Any ideas would help!

Hmm. Thanks for the reply.
I just went over the batch file op provided and i dont see that service in there so i dont believe i blocked it. I also checked the list of services added on the excel spreadsheet and its not on there as well so im assuming another service is disrupting it

Thanks.. I work in architecture.. I'm frequently writing all over plans.. part of the reason I got this phone. Thinking I could do minor markups if the situation arises.. and when we take pics for field surveys.. I can now make notes or other markups on the pics so when I am back in the office 2 weeks later I know why I took a specific picture for example.

thanks!!
BTW. let's keep the discussion to one. so all ideas can be shared in one.
