I have no idea about this counter stuff I came from a Galaxy Nexus and didnt have that thing. Anyways THANKS!!!
Stay on Rooted ROM and download and install this app to reset the counter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114

You will trip the flash counter if you use Odin to flash something other than a stock (untouched or properly rooted) image.

Yes - see here for completely stock images you can use for that, or here for pre-rooted stock images.

Well, to reach the point of having a custom ROM image without having tripped the flash counter, you'll need to go through the root process listed in the second of those links I indicated above so that you can install a custom recovery through which you can install those ROM images.

Just remember - if you're using Odin and you don't want to trip the flash counter, don't flash anything other than stock images. You should be okay then.
Also, keep in mind there is an app called Triangle Away which works for the GS3. Triangle Away can completely reset the flash counter.

I recently rooted my S3 and am running frostys basic jelly bean Rom. I've installed CWM and checked my flash counter and its at 0 and I want to keep it that way. So do I need to go back to stock jelly bean through Odin then flash the new Rom that I want to try?

After the 4.1 update samsung updated their bootloader. I completely wiped my phone and it still is tripping the flash counter ever time you boot to recovery. Even after wiping everything. Even if you flashed stock ICS, after you flash your Recovery of choice through Odin you are going to trip the counter.
I am in the process of writing a guide to get back to Complete stock with a zero flash counter.
The point is, you are going to trip your counter. Dont panic, it is 100 percent resetable.

I downloaded Rom Manager off the play store and flashed the recovery through Rom Manager and I've gone into recovery countless times and my flash counter still says zero. I just got the phone Friday and it came pre-loaded with JB. You said you trip the counter every time you enter recovery? Weird!
Edit - I followed the guide from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33115777 but I installed the ICS version first then flashed to frostys all while not tripping the counter.

I think that is the only wildcard. I flashed my recovery from Odin on my computer. Reset it via Triangle Away, booted back to recovery, and it tripped it. I remember reading that if you use Rom Manager then it doesnt. Im not sure why or why not but yes if you Odin recovery then you trip flash counter with each boot to recovery.
I have done much testing/goofing around. And no matter what scenario you are in, it is always able to flash back to stock 4.1.1 with a zero flash counter.

hi ,i have TWRP , i unrooted my phone, how can i root it again , my USB port is not working .. Is there a file just to load to SD card and proceed from there?
If you already have TWRP, then all you need is to flash a superuser or supersu zip file through the recovery, and you are rooted. All you need to do is put it on your SD card.

You cannot completely backup a stock GS3 without root. The most you can do is backup your app installs (not settings), your text messages, contacts, and a few other things. You could us MyBackup for that, but system and app settings, as well as backing up the entire ROM requires root.
EDIT: Sorry, doing too many things at once, to backup your ROM, you would have to flash a custom Recovery through Odin (not mobile Odin), and then do a backup through that Recovery.
If you're looking to put the stock ROM back your rooted phone, there is no need to root a stock phone that isnt rooted, back up the stock ROM to flash it over to the phone you're trying to send in...
Download the stock ROM from XDA and flash it back onto the rooted phone making sure you check to make sure you didnt trip the ROM counter.
Check the DEV section for the stock ROMs. They are in there.

I was wondering if i revert back with the nandroid do a triangle away and de-root with superSU will i be back to bell stock rom/kernel/modem with 0 on the flash counter and sowing device status as normal for warranty purposes?
I looked around but could not find a definite answer. Thanks
Not quite. You will still have a custom recovery installed. You can revert fully to stock using the Note II tool kit

but what if the screen doesn't work (black screen) is there a way to do it?
I dont think so
I recently re-flashed my phone because I was unable to get it back to stock un-rooted so I could get the latest 4.4 update. Someone suggested using Triangle Away to reset my flash counter in order to show my phone was 'not modified'. I purchased Triangle Away installed etc, but it had a stern warning that resetting my flash counter could "hard brick" my phone.
I attempted to use the temporary disable of SU for OTA within Triangle Away to unroot my phone and apply the update, unfortunately the update didn't work and now I can not undo put back SU as enabled. My phone is unrooted without the ability to undo that feature in Triangle Away.
Question, is there a way to fix this with Triangle Away? Am I missing something or do I have to reflash my phone again?
Why would an app like Triangle Away have a feature within it's app that could cause this to happen and not a way to back out of it.
I hope someone can help me with this.:crying:

I do have a custom recovery, TWRP. I think I have it running again and rooted, what I did was re-install Busybox and rebooted into recovery, then rebooted back into the System and then it seemed to work fine. Not sure if I will brave Triangle Away again, but thank you for responding and offering a good suggestion.:good:

Did you reset your flash counter? As far as I know this was put in place by the developer to warn people...Of knowing what they are doing before hand. This warning is mainly in place to try and make people read to see if their phone model is supported.
To the best of my knowledge, no one has hard bricked their phone on any of the I747(m) models using this app. This feature does work as I have used it multiple times.
And what update our ROM are you installing? You said 4.4... I used ODIN to restore back to complete stock 4.1.1 (not rooted, stock recovery included) and the OTA update to stock 4.1.2 went without a hitch. I used CF Auto Root (via ODIN) to root and then installed a custom recovery.

I would highly recommend flashing the pure stock 4.1.1 rom (including stock recovery) and then do the OTA. The 4.1.2 stock rom might be available through KIES or through other sites by now, but I can't say for certain. Since you are already using ODIN, then CF auto root will be a breeze for you to root 4.1.2.
No worries. I was a little nervous too about Triangle Away at first but searching did not net anything saying that reseting the flash counter had hard bricked someone's phone. That is what pushed me to use it.

I blew out Kies on my main machine because it doesn't work well, I had to re-set all my USB ports and re-install the Samsung USB drivers so no Kies for me. But where do I find a stock 4.1.1 rom from? My stock version is 4.0.4 (the original ROM when the S3 was released), I wonder if I can just use a custom 4.1.1 ROM instead or do you think it would work if I unroot/stock to 4.0.4 then OTA to 4.1.2?

To ensure best results use ODIN to flash the stock ROM to 4.1.1. You should return the phone stock as if you just purchased from the store new. Then do the OTA. You can use ODIN after that to root with CF Auto root.
