Hi all I've rooted my wildfire last year using unrevoked and all went ok... now I've used unrevoked another time to flash an updated clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 instead of my actual 2.5.0.1 almost because I can't charge my phone when it's off because of an old bug in cwm.
After running unrevoked the phone boots but I've lost superuser app and unrevoked itself fails with something like "cannot get root, firmware too new?" and if I run "su" from terminal emulator I got a "permission denied". The cwm is still version 2.5.0.1
Any idea?
I've just installed superuser app from the market and now I've restore the su command functionality...
What happened? and why unrevoked doesn't upgrade recovery image with the one I've specified?

I never would have the idea to re-run unrevoked for flashing a different recovery. Although it's also suggested in The Complete Wildfire Index thread I always would choose one of the three other methods (always done it by the PC49IMG.zip method).
Flashing a recovery isn't just a minor tweak if I'm correct. So I'm not surprised that you lost superuser temporarily. I personally would get a bit nervous to do this by revolutionary - but that's perhaps I'm already an old wise guy
Because I've used unrevoked (when I've rooted my wildfire it was the only way) I'm actually S-ON so the other 3 methods shouldn't work in my case.

oh well, I've been mistaken, then - yes that's the only method if you're s-on.

Rooted Evo 2.2 via UnrEVOked 3.21 stock everything. I can't get this to install. I emailed the dev and he told me that I need to use UnrEVOked Forever because 3.21 doesn't have NAND unlocked. According to the UnrEVOked website that is not true. 3.21 does have Nand unlocked.
Do any of you guys have any idea on how I can get this stupid app installed?
Titanium installed a version of it but I think that only Titanium can access it.

If Titanium installed busybox try going to a sheel then type in busybox. If you get a display with a command listing then type in busybox --install /system that should install busybox so you can use the full command set.

What is a sheel? Is this some kind of adb thing? Can you explain it to me step by step like I have down syndrome please.
i have an older version of busybox (1.16.2) and while trying to install 1.17.1 the installer is telling me that installation failed because 1) the device is not nand unlocked or 2) app was unable to remount.
my phone has been nand-unlocked for months. i've even installed this and other busybox versions prior to trying now on this rom. can flashing a new rom (MetroDroid) change my nand-unlock status? (i dont think so)...
Max I got the same exact message from BusyBox. When I emailed the dev he told me that 3.21 does not have Nand unlocked, which does not appear to be true. I have stock everything...IDK wtf is going on with this app. It really blows!
I have titanium backup installed with the busybox version from tib. Downloaded the bbox installer from the market and installed ver. 1.17 just fine.
Rooted with unrevoked forever for s-off and regaw's root method and currently running rooted 3.29.
Thought i would get an error like you guys but install was without a hitch.
You can find out if you are NAND unlocked by turning your phone off and then turning it back on while holding the volume down button. If you see S=OFF then you are unlocked. Also make sure that nothing is using busy box or root and try killing any unnecessary apps with a task killer. You can't change it if something is using it.
Haus: if S is on what Rico have to do? can I change it from that boot screen? Do I have re root?

You can use unrevoked forever or install the engineering bootloader, if you plan on flashing a lot of ROMs the eng bootloader is probably your best bet. That will give you the fastboot tools and allow you to use Cyanogenmod
****. You were right man. S=On. I thought Unrevoked 3.21 unlocked nand. Did I screw up somewhere? What is this engineer bootloader u mention. I never heard of it. How do I get it? Is it hard to use?
You'll need to flash a custom Recovery and use that to flash either the eng bootloader or unrevoked forever. I believe ROM manager can install the recovery for you or the Amon RA thread in my sig has the instructions to do it manually. A quick search should turn up the eng bootloader, sorry I don't have the link handy though
Edit: Found it Evo eng hBoot .76 - Recovery Flashable
My Desire is already rooted (using the old stage 1, stage 2 method) and I use Rom Manager to boot into Clockwork recovery.
A recent scare has made me want to permanently put Clockwork on my phone so I can access it from the boot menu.
Can I use Unrevoked to do this even though I am already rooted? It seems easier than using ADB.
Cheers.
Just connect your phone and run Unrevoked. Nothing more is needed. Done this several times to change between clockwork and amonra, works fine.
dont you think this thread belongs to the Desire Q&A forum? or the Desire General at most?

I tried doing this yesterday because I wanted Amon-Ra as well, but I got a misc partition error while running unrevoked. Ended up installing alpharev and flashing a recovery img that way. Any idea why that may've happened?
klaas4, no idea. Did you try to run it again? Never had a problem at all with unrevoked.
misc partition error happened to me as well (rooted way back with r4 method), also just did s-off instead. May as well, just as quick and easy as unrevoked anyway, and fastboot is great

My guess is that you didn't use unrevoked on first root. I just tried on my unrevoked desire and I can flash other recoveries over it using unrevoked.

Just flash the clockwork img file in your adb recovery and that'll be permanent!

Strangely enough, I did use unrevoked the first time, and still I got that message. The first time I ever rooted my Desire though, was using Modaco's method. Maybe that changed some things on that misc partition, but I used an RUU and rerooted using unrevoked when it came out.
Strange, but true. Anyway, I'm now happy and rooted, and using AlphaRev's fastboot commands to flash and erase the device directly is very helpful. Thanks anyway!
Rooted my brand new replacement G2 with the visonary method today. Just saw the OTA update for gingerbread and ignored it. Successfully perm rooted. Then I went about to obtain the desire z hboot so I could flash Virtuous Unity 2.39.0. I used zedomax's method on youtube where you dont use adb at all.
After successfully installing the desire z hboot I restored my phone from my backup to find that superuser and visionary were gone. I went to my terminal and typed su and it said permission denied. I still have S-OFF so what is going on? I decided to try to root again through visonary and once I permrooted again and rebooted, I could only reboot into clockwork recovery. Ive tried restoring my backups and I cant seem to boot up. Keep getting MD5 is a mismatch! error message. Any help is greatly appreciated

Visionary is not a safe method to use to permanently root the Vision. There are warnings and stickies all over about this... you might want to check them out. Perhaps there are some solutions in these threads... discovered by users in your same situation... Have you tried the unroot option in Visionary?
Ideally, you can start over completely and use a clean method. If you're still on 2.2 the best bet is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160

Read this guide. Use it. Love it.
I'm currently S-ON with hboot 2.10.0001.
When I try to use Revolutionary to get s-off it tells me that I don't have the right Hboot version.
So I checked the wiki for the tool and it says I need 2.16.0001 or 2.15.0001.
I tried flashing 2.16.0001 in recovery and it appears to work but at the top of my bootloader it still says 2.10.0001?
I'm not sure what the issue is.
P.S. ive been running miui for a while and do have some root just not unlocked nand i guess.

have you tried unrevoked also you cant flash roms without being nand unlocked (s-off)
UPDATE: Never mind. Unrevoked forever got me S-OFF
I can certainly flash roms and access recovery. No problems there.
I definitely have root (titanium backup works and I can issue superuser commands in terminal)
Is it possible that the bootloader is wrong?
BTW I cant flash different recoveries, it goes through but when I check I still have the same recovery (Amon RA).
I used a very old method of rooting (prior to GB). Everything has been cool but I did revert to stock everything briefly about 7 months ago.
When I took my phone in cause of a burnt out battery.
Can I use unrevoked even though I'm already rooted?
Don't want to mess anything up since everything is working except small things like adaway (requires s-off and won't work unless i use ADB from recovery).

I myself can't help with the unrevoked ?s because I never rooted a phone with unrevoked
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Lmao revolutionary on 2.2

Why not update to 2.3.3 OTA and then use unrevoked takes 3 minutes to root

I have just bought 2 HTC Desire phones 2nd hand for my wife and myself. One was already rooted, with su access and Nikez-Lente-1.0.1b2-bravo rom running very stably. The other was unlocked but branded and with a stock sense rom (not sure if if was gingerbread or ics).
So I immediately set about "rooting" the stock phone. I used Revolutionary, got s-off and installed sandvold Beta_0.18.2.1. I then installed Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed and expected to get root/su access on the phone. It was only when I tried using a2sd tool that I found I didn't have root/su access. Since then I've put the phone back to RUU and tried using unrevoked to root, but it fails everytime with a message "do you have a newer firmware?" or something like that.
I've put 4EXTRecoveryUpdater touch recovery on, installed Nikez-Lente-1.0.1b2-bravo again, installed su again, still no access. I've tried Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed, still no joy. Nothing seems to be able to put this phone into su/root mode.
And the strange thing is, both phones are on hboot 6.93.1002. So why can I not root the other phone?
I've searched the net for 2 days now and can find nothing to help. All the guides for unrevoked make it look like the simplest thing in the world to do.
What do I need to do?
Check my sig, desire all things root, s-off using revolutionary. Theres a superuser zip file there, try flash that in recovery. Where did u get that superuser zip file?

Yh i think with that site u have to download and flash the su binary aswell as the superuser.zip
download & flash this in recovery and u should be rooted
http://downloads.androidsu.com/superuser/Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed.zip
This is the SU file from the guide in my sig

Thanks for that
Tried that one, still getting "permission denied" in terminal.
Just a thought - should I downgrade the bootloader to an unrevoked compliant one?
