UK Phones with 16GB Storage

Thus far after much research it's looking like, for the UK at least, only the following phones will have 16GB of storage;
HTC Surround
LG Optimus 7
LG Optimus 7Q
All the others seem to have 8GB.
Bearing in mind I currently have an HD2 with a 16GB SD card in it, I was hoping that "upgrading" to WP7 would bring a jump in storage to at least 32GB. Now it looks like remaining at 16GB is the best I can hope for, and moving over to the HD7 would result in a halving of storage back to 8GB.
Anyway, the above 3 phones at least seem to offer the same storage as I currently have.
I'm guessing most of the phones only have 8GB so they can provide an upgrade path in 12 months time to 16 or 32, so that we can spend more money on buying yet another phone.
Bearing in mind I have 60GB of music and 20GB of photos, I'm a bit peeved. Especially as the iPhone seems to have up to 64GB.

I thought O2 were bumping up the HD7 to 16GB? At least that's what they have it listed as in their 'Coming soon' section and their press blog!

the hd7 in uk will have 16gh, some omnia 7's may do. I don't think the uk is getting the surround. I am hoping that the trophy has been hiding the fact it has sd cards as they are selling them on there website for that phone.

There have been a number of indicators recently that the HD7 has a microsd slot, so even a device with 8GB should be upgradable to 16 or 32GB. Jolly good.

I am hoping that this is true as even though I have never used up an 8gig SD card, the games on WP7 will most likely be bigger than the games on Android.

To be honest I am struggling with there thinking that 8 GB memory is enough.
This phone is supposed to be for gaming,music,video,photos and office Documents. not to mention if you record in 720P the phone will be full in no time.

Yep, the HTC HD7 has 16GB memory. Just been confirmed by O2.

Finally some adequate price. Hope we will see soon a good offers for other models as well.

I think I will hold off in buying HD7. I believe HTC will eventually raise the specs(hoping!wishing!) including the SD card slot. Might use my trusty HD2, which basically is HD7 with WM6.5 OS.

Omnia 7 16Gb
Samsung's site ( omnia7.samsungmobile.com ) state there's a 16Gb version under the Specifications.
Has anybody been able to actually CONFIRM this? Everyone I talk to denies knowledge if it even existing and Samsung haven't responded.
A 16Gb Omnia 7 is the only phone I'd consider getting now otherwise I'll just continue to wait.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately the Focus is US-only and isn't available here in the UK (for some unknown reason). 40Gb sure does sound good compared to the majority 8Gb models available in the UK :/

Just been down to the O2 shop this morning. Had a look under the battery and no SD card slot
However there is a plastic label so maybe there is on under there? We'll not know untill someone disassembles but so far it looks unlikely.

As MS is been tight lipped about WP7 until now, I was surprised... but expandable memory should not be an issue as MS wants the users to use the phone as Zune and play games...
I can’t see a reason to restrict ppl from expanding the memory....
honestly 16GB will be fine for me as i keep my music and videos on my 60GB touch... its almost full.. so i can never ***** about not enough memory on my phone..

I really cannot understand why OEM's created this frustration with the amount of the internal memory. At least they are using a soldered microSD cards so all of us know how much the difference between 8 and 16 GB costs. Even the iPhone 4, as typical overpriced Apple product, has £500 price tag and 16 GB internal memory. For comparison Omnia 7 has the same preorder price and the miserable 8 GB.
How they imagine competing with all of the marvellous Android phones that are coming and even with the iPhone? Or they just experimenting with the new platform...

I have noticed this with Samsung time and time again, They place a great screen on this phone then use a poor camera, and skimp on memory. But still want top dollar for there product.
I understand the sound quality is poor compared to HTC phones as well.
It is a huge over-site not having a larger capacity for the memory, The manufactures are to blame here where are the 32 GB and 64 GB versions.
It almost feels as if the manufactures want this product to fail.
I hope they bring larger sizes soon.

The Note II is certainly the (if not) best Android phone of 2012. I'm just wondering, does anyone know when the 32/64 GB versions of the Note II will be available. Currently there's only the 16GB version. Also, do you think the Note II will get a 2GHz stable overclock? I I'd like to think so. Thanks

Honestly why do you need that much space/speed ? Just stick a 32gb card in it. If you try to overclock it you'll just fry it and kill the battery and any warranty.

Because I choose to buy a 64GB version. I didn't ask which one I should get, I asked where I could find those versions. Anyway most high end Android phones can all be overclocked. Like One X or S III. People run them at 1.8GHz without issues.

Your storage space issue is for me the easiest to answer. I am an extensive user of audio books. The teaching company series, Will Durant's seminal 12 volume series, podcasts, science fiction audio... Asimov, Huxley, Clarke, current fiction, "Why the West Rules for Now" (i highly recommend by the way) is how i keep sane on morning and evening commutes. I have a 16gb g-note and a 64gb SD card and i use all of this storage. Samsung's release of a new 128gb SD card will be none to soon, and if it cannot be utilized on my current note, it will most likely spur me to buy the note 2 with 2 GB ram and 64 GB SD internal. I also can access and stream from my collection on my home server but my at&t "unlimited" isn't, so i use WiFi whenever possible. This means that i use the phones memory as a cache buffer to limit my telecoms' leverage. Concerning speed. I am currently testing an incredible voice control app called Utter. Extremely flexible, configurable and powerful. Coupled with Ivona voice the results are simply stunning. I am also running a custom JellyBean rom called slimbean that is half the size of ice cream, is overclocked at 1.8 ghz and is as smooth as a baby's butt. I've been overclocking and flashing roms since i joined xda, its why i joined xda. I understand your credulity, we do still call these devices phones after all. i am also aware that my setup and usage is not typical, yet it is just this flexibility of android and current Samsung products that make them so attractive people like us with such differing needs and views.

First time i heard the "you don't need that much.... " line was when i opted for a 10MB hard drive for my then new spanking hot PC AT. It had a 16bit processor and 512kb of ram...my buddy had the
commodore 64 (64 KB of ram and a cassette based memory). Despite his lack of technical sense, we remain friends to this day. Unsurprisingly, he favors that other phone ecosystem....the glass jewelry ones with those little screens. He still freaks out when he sees my note. His first words? Yeah, you guessed it; " you don't need that much..." I notice his wife checking it out though... So maybe there is some justice in this life

You only get to see the true value of a decision if you get to live with it.
I had friends that laughed at me s3 about its size. Now one of thes ( a .... girl! ) got one for free
Her first reaction was "un#@#$ing believable... i was blind and now i saw!"
Same thing with 2nd battery. People give 500+$ for a phone and they don't get an extra battery and a charger.
If i borrow them mine for a few days they get to "see the light"
Same thing with sd cards. From 16 to 32 and from there to 64gb they were telling me what you will do with all that space for ?
Guess what? Its usually full.
So i ll be waiting for the 32gb at least , i dont believe we will see a 64gb version sadly

64gb + 64gb
I have about 80GB of mp3 files which I want to carry around with me. I have several GB more of pictures I have a Galaxy S3 with 32GB internal and a 64GB card, and it's getting crowded. And I'll keep adding more files. Maybe one day I'll be comfortable with keeping this in "the cloud", or streaming it from HDs in my house, but right now I want it all on my phone.
Right now Samsung's web page only mentions a 16GB version for US carriers. I definitely won't buy that.
I agree with the philosophy of not questioning why someone wants the storage they want.

It is already available for pre-order on some sites (handyshop.de) by an exorbitant price of 899 eur and a delivery date at the end of October...

I was wondering the same as well. I just ordered my Note 2, but am wondering about the storage. I have a 16GB Nexus 7 and have found that with no music/videos/picutres stored, I cannot download all of my apps without getting a low storage warning.
Anyone have issues with downloading around 200 apps on a 16GB Note 2? I know you can add an SD Card, but that doesnt help with app storage, correct? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

just wait and purchased highest memory storage device.. 16gb will give you actually 11gb and which will spent very fast..
I am going to sell my 16gb note 2 soon.. its worthless as we cant install apps on external SDCard

32GB version

WHERE can I purchase the 32Gb version of the Galaxy Note 2?
So far I can only find the models with 16Gb....

Nowhere yet I'm afraid - release date is speculative ATM - I'm holding off until its released - hope its not too long :0( if we get to next feb they'll loose a sale as ill then wait for the SGNIII - which will probably be released in same way, and I'll wait again for bigger memory, it'll come late and ill wait for IV......repeat till SGNXXX when the smallest memory they can make is big enough lol
Silly really, one thing apple do reasonably well is release all memory sizes at same time (not so good with colours). If this had been 64GB, or even 32GB on release I'd have bought by now (even without LTE) - 16GB really isn big enough, especially as its not the simplest task to get apps onto the external SD
Here's to keeping fingers crossed for 32GB soon, not holding breath for 64 this year :0(

You wrong about it, S III has 64 GB by few days.

ok so maybe i didnt see the announcement for the 64gb s3 as you say few days a go but i did say rumours for note 2
i contacted samsung support but no reply as of yet on date confirmation on note 2 32gb.. if it really is next year then may as well get 16gb with a 128gb micro sdxc card which too are rumoured soon

Micro SD is very cheap now.
grab one Note 2 and try, really amazing all-rounded design.
U would not wait for another few months for the bigger volume version
Huge default internal storage is for iphone addicts only (w/o additional memory slot! LOL)

someone correct me if im wrong but note 2 supports up to 64GB SD card max...
yeah i need a 32GB internal.. i do have a 32GB SD.. just hate how some stuff need to run only on internal sd:silly:

i too thought it was 'max upto' 64gb micro SD cards but aparently thats for SDHC micro cards when it comes to Micro SDXC cards its different and they support whatever the card size is due to a different file structure.
hence rumour has it samsung are releasing the micro 128gb SDXC before christmas.
thats was told to me on another thread currently running that i commented on questioning isnt the max storage 64gb for note 2.

You'll need to check with a dev but in my current phone the SD is partitioned and all my apps install into the partition as though it were internal memory. It was crucial on my gf's htc desire (bravo).
Just a thought, personally 16gb is enough for me, but then again I UNINSTALL things

I just tried calling several T-mobile retail stores asking about ordering the 32 GB version - none knew anything about that and couldn't help me. One suggested that I try the online chat.
The online chat seemed promising, transcript:

From there I called both customer care and telesales, but neither of them would acknowledge the existence of a 32 GB model - much less give me the opportunity to order one.

I heard unconfirmed reports of 16gb and 32gb units available with upgrade capability to 64gb via MicroSD slot. I have not been able to find/order the 32gb version.

Well I overheard two employees talking on launch saying they had to wait to order it. ...which makes sense.....you expect someone with intelligence to believe 32 and 64 gb versions exist (heres the kicker) yet ONLY employee's are privy to buy at this time................hey the S4 comes out in 3 weeks !

This situation makes no sense for an informed consumer. e.g. I know that the GN2 is available in 16/32/64 GB models and that Samsung has announced that only limited quantities of the 64 GB model will be produced. However, only the 16 GB models are available on the US market at the moment.
For example, these are my requirements for my next phone:
1. 32 GB internal memory or more
2. Buy it off-contract (since I will be using the T-mobile Monthly4G plan)
3. GSM (since I fly to Europe several times a year)
Once that's set, I'll buy the phone immediately.
Given this situation, it would be in the best interest for the mobile phone company to announce their intentions up front. If they say the 32 GB or 64 GB models will be available in X months, I can decide whether or not I want to wait that long. They could even give a more nebulous answer like sometime in Q1 or Q2. Finally, they could announce that they won't release any of the 32 GB or 64 GB models.
In all of these cases, I would either wait to buy a 32 GB or 64 GB version or decide to buy the 16 GB version now. The point is that both of these outcomes would involve T-mobile benefiting from a $650+ purchase.
However we're in a situation where all of the major mobile phone companies are silent about when -or- if the 32 GB or 64 GB version will be released in the US market. As a consumer, this makes my decision much more difficult. Suddenly, I'm contemplating getting the international version of the GN2, possibly getting another phone (like the Nexus 4), or just waiting to see what happens when the dust settles. None of these outcomes benefit T-mobile all that much.
I'm at a loss, how does keeping quiet about releasing future variations of a model help the mobile phone company?

Employees don't have access to this "32gb" version unless you're referring to the S3.

I just laugh at people and there requirements on memory when the device has an micro sd slot have all the memory you want. It's pretty mute to me to sit and await a memory bump HIGHER price SAME device I mean people have some silly counter productive thinking. Now if it didn't have v extra storage options then you may have a point

You have a good point and I used to feel the same way.
My thinking was mostly like this:
1. A clean Galaxy Note 2 currently has ~11 GB left.
2. Some applications won't run properly from the sd card.
3. A few applications are already in the 1 GB - 1.8 GB range.
4. I plan on using the GN2 for two years.
5. I plan on buying a 64 GB sd card as well for pictures and music, etc.
I just didn't want to end up in a situation a year from now where I wish I had bought the 32 GB version instead and I don't mind paying extra for that piece of mind.

From what I understand, their are a bunch of apps that you can't run from a micro SD card. So if people are planning on keeping there phones for a long time, to make room for new apps, they'll have to start deleting apps already stored on there phone's internal memory sooner with a 16GB phone than with a 32GB phone. Not sure if it would be fair to consider these mute folks silly or counter-productive--after all, is it really there fault they can't speak? But I guess for some, having more internal storage space for apps might be worth the extra cost.

I'm with you guys. I think bleeding edge phones need to be 64gb already and pushing 128gb by the end of 2013. Glad to see the HTC One available in 64gb.

I still have a valid point, again keep your data that can be interchangeable on sd card, 11.8gb is plenty for apps and on device storage when you have a micro sd slot, which is becoming a rare type. I'm still stuck why Google isn't offering micro sd slots ..o yea the cloud -_-

Google wants to get away from extsd cards because " confusion" and making it easier on the user= Google wants more isheep to convert and not get "confused" about where they're movies and music are stored :thumbdown::banghead:

Well that sucks. I was thinking of getting one, but I couldnt wait and got the white one.

Yeah I noticed that a while back that in one of our "playbook's" (20 page sprint propaganda newsletter) so I went to samsungs page to learn more about it and they had those models listed while our playbook said it only came in 16gb. I figure with a 64gb sd theres no need for that much storage. I just stream all my music from google play / pandora / i<3raido and use that unlimited data plan for streaming netflix and crunchyroll. Using it for all its worth

They would cost more then people would be willing to pay.
Although in typical Samsung fashion it will come out later in different colors.

they should just ditch 16gb and make 32gb the standard model. flash memory is dirt cheap, what is the problem

You're looking at this page... probably still there for international versions being the other page that only says 16GB links to all US carriers.

I wouldn't interpret it that way. They probably took down references to the 32gb and 64gb versions of the phones because they don't want to Osborne the sales of the 16gb models, and because of pressure from carriers who are getting heat about not having the higher capacity versions. In the UK there have been complaints against Samsung for false advertising (a crime there) based on featuring the higher end versions in ads but not making them available; Samsung changed their ads in the UK in response to these complaints.

Whats more interesting is the fact that on the global site it lists 1 step tasking/multitasking features which is absent from the US versions.
I will be pretty peeved if that feature does not make it to the US versions!

I would have preferred the 32gb version as I had the GS3 32gb. Truthfully though, I never touched the internal memory. I think for me, it's more the idea of simply having 32gb. I store everything to extsdcard anyways.

I hope this isn't true.. but at the same time I wish they could give us a definitive answer as to whether or not the larger sized versions will be made available.
I've been holding off on getting one of these as I don't want to purchase one and then find out that the 32 or 64 GB version gets released a few weeks or a month later.
I just wonder if they took down the reference to the larger models because it's not currently available.
I would probably just go with the 16 GB version and stick a 64 GB card in it, but I don't want to run into problems with running out of room for APPS on the internal memory, which I've heard might be an issue.

Personally, I feel the same way. I opted for the 16gb version and honestly, how many apps can you possibly use on the phone. I have all my apps installed and have well over 10gb free on the internal memory.
My 32gb S3 still has 27gb of free internal memory.
I'm not sure what Samsung's plans are but as much as I would prefer at least 32gb, I'm coping quite well with the 16gb version.

That's good to know and helps me lean more towards just getting the 16 GB version instead of waiting and holding out.
Can I ask roughly how many apps you've got installed?

I have over 200 user apps installed, including a 1.4GB game. I still have almost 6 GB available. I guess if you want to install a bunch of really big games, you might need more, but 16GB is probably enough for the vast majority of people.

There is a way to switch the memory from internal to external and vice versa.
It works on the GS3 so it shouldn't be a problem for the note2.

Sprint guy told me the rumor is that the 32gb will be out around black Friday. I don't really trust the source but wish they would announce it. I really want at least 32gb plus my 64gb SD card. I could get by with less but always fill it up with Flashing and backups.

That's interesting. It would have made more sense to handle it by releasing then all at the same time. That's what they did with the GS3.
I'm thinking they aren't going to release them this time. I could see the black Friday thing but they'd piss off a lot of people who are outside of their return window. I've been stressing out a bit because I'd prefer the 32gb version and in some weird way, it's comforting that it appears as though it's not available.

64gb class 10 Sandisk is $40 at Radio Shack. Some might have gotten a $10 off coupon in the mail. Can't go wrong.

The 32GB and 64GB Euro versions are now listed as pre-order... personally I'll be holding out for the larger versions...
