[MODEM] East Coast users, please read! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I looked around, but couldn't find a general thread. The newest modem that came on ICS 4.0.4 (I lose track of the names and numbers) does decent, yet poorly in some areas. I'd like to know, what modem works best for people in the following states ..
New York
Massachusetts
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Thank-you.

Newest modem is LH1 i live in the south east and it works great.

It has been covered exhaustively...modem quality is dependant on the device. You need to flash and see for yourself. No one can tell you how a modem will perform on your phone

No.. that's not right.. radio/modem quality is mostly based of location .. not the device. Now I'm sure a bit come down to the device especially if its running custom roms.. but for the most part its based on your region.
I live in Orlando FL and all the the modems are about the same for me.. I believe if your in a really strong service area like I am it won't matter the radio..
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app

what i was saying is that two people may have the same modem on the same phone, and it may function completely different unless they are using the exact same rom, and connecting the the exact same towers

I like how someone actually hit thanks on your post... :banghead:
But that's not what you said... you said .. in a mostly rude way.. that it was dependent on the device and that's just not true.. while it weighs a little on the result a radio /modem performance is mostly bases on location .. but thank for clarifying that.

Yeah it's both, but usually for large cities, every radio will have similar speeds. I found that the difference is the ping/latency. My sister and i both have the same phone, and ROM, but ping differs based on radio. Example, mine is great with the note radio, while hers is better with uvle1. However, mine on uvle1 isn't that bad either. I think that's what doug was trying to say.
Anyways to op. Just try all the top radios people have reported. Remember to aim for latency over speed.

Souf Cackalacky representin' and I am running T879UVLG3. Seems to work better than the others for me - in my location anyway...

Try both LE1 and LH1 :good:

Long island, NY lh1 def. Is better than lg3 in the battery department, although lg3 gives better speeds, I can live with the small difference.

[Q] One week deep. LOS/Sleepy Radio software or radio based?

I like the hardware but this loss of service thing is annoying.
Has anyone determined if this is a software issue? Sprints network isnt great but my evo 3d fares much better.
Ive read around on the internet and I THOUGHT I read a post that mentioned a user reverting to EG30 which solved his/her problem. Only thing that isnt positive is whether the user reverted to software EG30 or baseband EG30.
Any insight into this issue, how to revert to an earlier software version? Ive tried various radios but not software. I appreciate your time.
I'm having same problem....my evo 3d had no problem with Los but my e4gt is terrible where I live.....I was told to try different modems but I tried FCO7 AND FC14 still the same.

Hmm, what do you mean by "loss of service"?
This is a term used specifically to describe losing service while the phone says it has service...

Ok, maybe that is incorrect.
Just using it, for example sending a tweet or an email, one may send immediately. Then if I choose to refresh or send a second tweet/email right after, the transmission arrows dont light up for a while. Its like the radio is going to sleep way too fast and it takes even longer to wake up and complete the transaction. Enabling/disabling fast dormancy doesnt seem to make a difference.
Edit: under these conditions, I never get the "no signal" icon. Just seems the radio is sleepy
Well I asked around because my signal sucks but I called sprint and they said my area has really good service.....but people told me to try FCO4 and FC14 and FCO7 that might help so I did......nothing helped.
I just looked it says I'm using el29 on my kernal and FCO7 under baseband.......not sure if that helps, ill try to find out more and if it helps ill let you know

True that! FF18 got old real fast I had to roll back to EL29. Breaks my heart that Jelly Bean has been released and we are still struggling to get a solid ICS update I did read reports thought in in android 5 google is considering an update model similar to windows and to bypass carriers and allow the pushing of updates directly to device. This should solve our fragmentation issue but who knows...

I'm on [UPDATE][KERNEL][ROM]tFF18 with FF18 repack with AGAT recovery 0.2.1 rom with ff18 modem and its a big improvement over other roms/modems I've tried.. Net speeds are up from around 1.5 mbs d/l to almost 3 mbs and I get 3-4 bars on the phone signal instead of 1 maybe 2.. And I'm in the mountains of Tn.

If you're getting good signal/data speeds, stick with what you have. It really matters on your location. For me, FF18 is the best but for others, FF27, FH13, etc...

Modems are area/device dependent.
Meaning, what might work well for me, might not work well for you.
You can try any modem with any build. Try the latest and see if your speeds improve or not. Might find that what you have is the best for you, might not.
(some say to update profile/prl after each time you change, i for one, don't see improvement doing that, but try it)
: edit: From fi03 forward, 4g speeds increase due to changes of Wimax settings. So if 4g is a player for you, keep that in mind

Modems for my Pops

So... I've been trying to explain my father what modems do. Things like extending range, increasing speeds, improving battery life, etc etc.
He won't listen because he doesn't believe me. I've tried showing him articles, and I've even shown myself INSTALLING a modem but... because the information is so scattered, he won't look for more then 2 seconds. He asked me to find some more centralized information... :banghead::banghead:
So I came here.
Would someone please explain how certain modems actually help the phone, and the advantages that can be taken by using certain modems?
The things some do to prove a point... I tried before I came to you E4GT community. If this is in the wrong section, feel free to delete or move it mods.
Many thanks will be had

No, I changed the modem on my E4GT. As far as I know, you can't on the iPhone.

How can I make my mobile internet faster? Very poor performance just now.

I'm on revolution HD 19 which is great so far but the mobile internet I'm getting is very slow. This is my second ROM I've had since rooting with similar performance.
I'm with talktalk (runs on the UK vodafone network). My girlfriend is with the same network but gets much much better performance on her nexus 4. My apn settings are correct.
Is it a case of downloading a different modem?
Thanks.
Yes mate. Just flash a new modem. It's easy. Try a couple if your speeds don't improve.
I had real poor signal when I flashed my custom rom but flashed a new modern and hey presto.
Good luck

I'm sure thats pretty poor. I'll try some of them modems see if I can get it working better. XX or XW seem to be the UK ones so I'll start with them.
