I'm currently using CM9 with fxp kernal.. when I installed it I was at firmware(.431).
Update notification always shows on the computer about new update(.587)
Is it ok to update or not? (because I want to hide this notification! )
Another question:
I want to change the rom because the WiFi doesn't work anymore and it's very buggy now. (I'm planning to install JELLY SANDWICH 4.4)
Any recommendation about better roms?
will be giving thanks for good answers...

so im on stock ICS. not rooted.
and i want android jelly bean.
now all i've seen is that you have to get CM10 to do it. but i don't like to use "non stock roms", so is there anyway I can still get jelly bean without using CM?
and if not CM, then i really dont wanna use other ROMs either.
so in other words, is there a way to get jelly bean on sprint s3 using the "official" look of the jelly bean OS (and not other ROMs' looks)?
thanks! (and yes ill root and do all that too)
Closest thing to stock jelly bean.

Right in the development section.... But read about the rom before flashing it. Make sure it's something you want on your phone.

Not yet, but there's someone saying they have some leaked update.zips. These will be leaked builds so when it goes official you'll either need to go custom or Odin back to stock. Either way it's the equivalent of a factory reset. It will also probably have annoying bugs. If you want a strong, stable build you'll just have to be patient. If this guy posts the update zips, feel free to give a go, but know you might as well be custom because stock recovery will probably reject the official OTA when it drops.

Does he not want clockwork recovery or cyanogenmod? Now I'm not sure which... Nevermind, reread.
so i guess CM10 is the safest bet.
now another question:
since jelly bean (stock) is going to be coming out from sprint update sometime in october, what will I have to do? do a factory install, install stock ICS? and then manually update to jelly bean?

Just to help assuage your fears, the creator of Cyanogen is like head developer for Samsung or something now. It's as safe as a stock build. I personally don't love CM roms and people seem to love aokp just as much. It's all personal preference. Just follow the rules of switching between because it can be a rocky ride. When in doubt Odin back to stop and rework from there. There is a lot of fun in it. Stock is stock, it's also made by developers who may or may not be as qualified or passionate as anyone on here. All up to you though.
I would just be patient and wait a month or 2 for the real official jb update Thayer sprint will send to your phone

1) flash ktoonez kernel. Check HW overlay in developer settings.
2)Don't know the issue your referring to.
3)download another keyboard if you need to because this only comes with one keyboard so you can't change the input method until you download another one
thanks a lot man!
new issues:
1) the battery is GOD awful! i lasted like 6-7 hours with about 1.5hrs screen time. i was used to 30hrs+ using stock ICS. is there a battery fix for this?
2) should i use SetCPU or will this make matters worse? juice defender is already pretty awesome
3) i fixed the swype thing
bump
Hi
I just bought a S3 yeah \o/
Now my question, im under BELL, the phone was originaly from ROGERS. So i have all the rogers app, booo.
I know Jelly Bean is coming soon.
So my question is :
If i Root, and install CM10 by exemple, i know the the original Rom in the S3 have a lots of nice tweek and option.
if i install CM10, will i loose all those option and tweek ? Or those should already be in CM10 ????
Other scenario, if i wait for BELL to push Jellybean, will it get all the rogers app out ? And be a real bell phone after the push ?
Thanks

What tweaks are you talking about? CM10 is based on AOSP so all Touch Wiz options are gone, for example all the Motion features are going to be gone, and the camera features and settings those are also going to be gone.
CM10 has its own features, but they are not the same as TW interface.
You will lose all of the "smart" features by flashing any cm10/aokp rom. You will also have all of the bloat apps from rogers removed.
another alternative would be to root the phone, and install titanium backup and just remove the bloat apps yourself using that app. If you wanted to keep all of the "smart" features.
Either way it is very simple to restore back to stock rom so you can receive the OTA jellybean update whenever it pops off. You simply download the firmware for the Rogers device (unrooted and stock recovery) and then flash that using odin and it will bring you back to stock so you can get the jb update.
**go here and search i747m and get the rogers stock rom if you ever wish to restore so you can get the ota jb update, even though when its released you will see a pile of roms built based off of it so you could just flash one of those to get jellybean goodness**
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
To get rid of rogers apps without root all I did was find them in application manager and disabled them.

To the OP, you can root and not have to try one of the custom roms. If you really like some of the samsung features then try one of the roms that is based on the samsung touchwiz roms. AOSP based roms like CM10 will be missing many of the little things that samsung put in their phones.
Sounds like you want all the Samsung tweaks, so I'd go with Drewgaren's rom, found in the android development section for this device. It's a great ROM but I still prefer CM10.
As a big camera guy, I REALLY like the Samsung camera app, but the AOSP setup is a lot cleaner, faster, is better with google services and more uniform looking... Currently JB AOSP based stuff isn't perfect either as there is no GS3 JB source, I've used AOKP a lot and really like it, but with searching for a new job I really need to make sure I have a stable and bug free phone.
I have a nandroid of both and swap back and forth occasionally... I'm crazy!

Jelly bean should be out for the AT&T S3 within the next couple of weeks.
definitly flash cm10. you'll loose touchwiz features like s voice, smart stay, ect because you are flashing an aosp rom. the advantage is that the rom is alot smaller and lighter so you get a huge speed increase and better battery life. if your worried about stability i can say from experience cm10 is currently much more stable than what i got from at&t out of the box.
make a nandroid before you flash so you can always flash back and recieve the ota when it comes out.
I just recently bought this phone, everything about it is great except that opening the app folders on homescreen is kinda laggy. Did anyone experience this? Wondering if there is a fix.
no problem on custom ROM and custom kernel. :good: never tried stock ROM...
Haven't tried any of the custom roms out there, anyone worth trying?

I swear they're all so awesome that it's basically personal preference, lol.
Keep in mind that the new Sense Jelly Bean ROMs require specific CIDs in order to work.
And remember to read instructions before installing....
Thanks! I might hold up for a while as I just read the news JB is being rolled out at the moment. Can't wait for the OTA update in UK!

It's simply the latest one - i recently flashed back to stock because of an warranty-issue, and i found it hard to find out which of those dozens of circulating ROMs was the newest one.
Sure nothing major has changed compares to the out-of-the-box-rom, but i guess most people that go back to stock / need to go back like to choose the newest one.

I found 4.0 to be much more fluid, performant and appealing than the Stock-ROM, while the versions 4.1 and above seemed to have lost a noticable piece of agility and responsivness compared to 4.0.
I guess that 4.0 performs really great, only drawback for normal users is the camera, which is still a little bit buggy and sometimes does not work, due to the driver model issues :-/.

Does any of you guys use the VPN function? Can anyone confirm that it works on stock rom? I flashed my phone as soon as I got it and never tried the vpn with 2.3.6, but tried with 4.0, 4.1.2, and 4.2.1 and it doesn't work well in this versions.

Sorry, never used it. But i would also guess that if a ROM does implement it properly, it should be this one.

I'm using this one too before even if it doesn't for my region and nothing really is significant, just some ICS features.
8150XXLM8 or Value Pack stock firmware (update via Samsung Kies) is being rolled-out only in Romania and Slovakia. Made for devices that can’t be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, this Value Pack includes some ICS-specific features, like Face Unlock, the ability to change font size (in Contacts, Calendar, or Messaging), and the ability to take photos while shooting video.

The provided ROM is the latest one at least in Germany.
I do not know how the rollout for the value pack was made for other european countries, but e.g. in Germany the value pack was alreasy delivered with a previous update.
I want to flash CM 10.2 again on my Ace II because I'm having some issues with the mobile network since I flashed it from my original Gingerbread. Now I know I need an official Jelly Bean, but they didn't release an update in my country (Bosnia & Herzegovina) so what do I do now? Does that mean that I can't flash CM 10.2 at all without having some problems or is there a solution for me? Will it work if I flash an unofficial JB custom ROM? If yes can someone link me to such a ROM?
Thank you in advance
You can install all JB stock roms for europe and than flash CM
So let's say I take a JB firmware for Germany and flash it on my Bosnian device it will work for flashing CM...maybe I should mention that I have a carrier lock, could that be a problem? Thank u for ur reply

It should work. I flashed a lot of stock ROMs from a lot of countries, and every one of them worked flawlessly. The carrier lock shouldn't cause any problems, although you might want to backup all of your data, just in case.

I can't believe it worked. I've been waiting for months for the OTA update, but I guess flashing was the only solution...now I have an official Jelly Bean and tomorrow CM 10.2 hopefully without any problems. Thanks a lot guys
