hi, so yeah there are a range of threads on the actual issue. I had though I was one of the lucky ones, but recently i have noticed a faint yellow spot in the middle of the screen. It's kinda annoying, but I don't know if its worth sending the phone in.
this is because I have had a bad experience with my xperia arc and the sony service centre in the uk. (they do fix the phone, but twice it has come with new issues caused by careless handling poorly reattached cover, screws loose and scratches etc.)
so I would like to know, from people who were also in this situation, do they repair the phone by replacing the screen or replace the whole handset? Because if its the former I don't know whether I will risk it...
I went to the shop and explained the problem, they said I was allowed to hand it in. 2 weeks later I got a call to say that the phone was in the shop, went to the shop and and got a whole new xperia s we are about 3 weeks later now and no problems so far, fingers crossed it will stay like that ;p

nice! the problem I have is that I won it off sony in a competition (this isn't a problem haha) but means the only option I have is to send it direct to sony
Sony UK flatly refuse to fix mine. I have asked on several occasions in the last 8 or 9 months and get various reasons why not.
I have been told I would have to pay as the handset only has a 6 month warranty. I was also told I would need to prove I had never exposed it to temperatures outside the specified range.
The so called experts in my local Sony place are total muppets, I have heard some pretty strange things while queuing, including some poor woman being told that the backlight on her TV was supposed to be dim to save power and if she couldn't see it properly she needed to make sure she was in a fairly dark room lol
I'm out on business next week so I'll be visiting a different Sony place.
Sent from my XperiaS via transwarp conduit.
I have a very good experience with sony(ericsson) assistance centre in rome .....
they repaired my vivaz 4 times for free [ in italy for the laws , there's a min. warranty for 2 years , ] , and only once i've paid 60 € ( about 45 £) for repair the lcd ..........
Now are 8 months i have yellow tint , and i don't know when take to assistance to repair it because i use my sxs everyday intensively
p.s. infact apple paid ( and I think will continue to pay ) a fine because they apply a standard 1 year warranty while the laws force to have a basic 2 year warranty
oddly enough
i bought the phone 7 months ago
1 month later the yellow tint appeared on my phone only on white pages (dont know if thats your case)
didnt bother to send it back to sony coz i know they suck
5 months later this yellow tint disappeared
odd

Mine became less severe over time too.
Sent from my XperiaS via transwarp conduit.
On mine, yellow tint on the screen appears only when the phone is very hot and on white background.
It does not bother me very much. So I let it without repair.
that's weird because for me its the opposite, when I got the phone I made sure I didn't have the issue. It was only recently that I noticed it. I think I could probably live with it, the only thing Im thinking of is its resale value...
:| i let it be either.. didn't bother me too much.
phone replaced in one two days
I was facing the yellow tint problem also. Went to sony service center and was pleasantly surprised to get a new phone in two days.

I have had a very minor issue with yellow tint on my handset for a few months, I have as of yet not return the phone for repair due to the possible 2 week wait for the repair here in France.
I would like to let everyone who is suffering with this issue that the .55 firmware from my personal experience makes the handset runs at 4/5 oC cooler and for me means I now hardly ever see the yellow tint appearing...:good:
sorry i am noob here, can anyone tell me what is yellow tint??i never kow this..
Realistically no one should suffer from it any more as far as I'm aware as it was a problem with the first batch off the line. It's since been fixed by Sony. I had to get mine swapped for new from Sony as it was a recognised issue. But i had it on the day of release

Yellow tint is a issue where when viewing certain shades of white certain patches of the screen would appear yellow ish (like a stain). Most people seemed to experience this in the same areas (down full length of the right hand side of the phone and a large patch in the middle above the tactile buttons)
I got my phone pre installed with ICS. so My Phone is a new one.... I have tested it every aspect. no tints
I will atach photos of the problem, and is there any way whic could help me, it look like some pixels are freezed. This is most noticable on gray color.

It is a screen burn ,i have tried to solve problem with Screen Burn-in Tool app from Play Store
but no success, this problem have also few my friends with lg g4,i newer buy any lg phone again, lg is better to produce tv sets and wasmachines because as phone manufactures sucks.
Same issue here too, it isn't necessarily burn in, more image retention I guess which tends to happen to some LCD's, tried all sorts of things to fix it, if anyone knows how to fix this that would be awesome
Guess we'll have to either get the device replaced or replace the LCD

If it's retention the LCD won't have to be replaced. Just wait a little, and it's gone.
And it inst always there, it knows to disaper.
And one more thing, it constantly changin, for example now i see 12:30, and for 2 minutes i will see 12:32, not one picture burned in.
Sorry for my English, i hop you will understand what i trying to say.

Its pretty bad retention if thats the case, not permanent...only really see it on grayish backgrounds....Ive left the phone off for days...switched it back on and within a matter of minutes my status bar is burned in lol
Same problem here pink burn that appears only on gray with a few minutes of use.
I was wondering if its just my device or not.
And now that i know that is the case i guess switching the phone display will not solve it.
I am getting this issue as well. Pinkish tint (when there is a light grey background) and image retention on the top of the screen and I can see those little icons. Did you get the problem after motherboard replacement due to bootloop issue? I am regretting my decision in purchasing LG G4.. :crying:

It is the display, friend of mine replaced his and he no longer had this issue.
I think he ordered a $70 USD replacement off Amazon and did it himself since LG requested for him to send the phone to Taiwan.

To be honest it does not really bother me,the only thing is that i can not put a gray wallpaper :/.
And when you mention this i think it actually started only after i got my motherboard replaced because of the bootloop but i might just did not notice until than..
And no regreting is needed alot of people that i know with s6 are not so happy about it..and the only other option was m9...so.....if you like me and had no choice the g4 was the smartest choice lol and i am quite happy with it...

Well i was talking about that, if you would give your phone to lg they will replace with the same display..so i dont see the point...
And the replacement displays you cant tell how are they as in brightness battery drain and color accuracy...
I guess if it will get worse than i will probably replace it..for now its fine enough lol

Meh...it's really not a huge problem lol, it grew on me after some time and it doesn't bother me anymore
Hasn't gotten worse over the past 6-ish months or so, so I guess it'll stay this way
I'm from Jamaica so sending it to Taiwan is going to be a bit of a problem
But as for the replacement part, I definitely get what you're saying, I asked my friend about his for the purpose of this thread and he told me that the battery life is the same, brightness/quality is similar to the original display, worse case scenario if you need to change the screen I'd say go for it.

I have found a some kind temporary workaround ( i don't know is that correct language expression in english so sorry for that )
Mainly here is what I did : I have flash latest SUPERXE kernel for stock rom android 6.0 from here , after flash from Play Store I have installed app Kernel Adiutor ,from the drop-down menu selected Screen section and aply this settings :
RED=230
GREEN=235
BLUE=235
Minimum RGB Value=35
Saturation Intensity= 30
Screen Hue=0
Screen Value= 125
Screen Contrast=127
After this no more red colored retention on gray background, not even in TWRP recovery.
This solution is only for rooted devices with unlocked bootloader,I hope this will help You
After kernel installation i have run few times antutu benchmark,so maybe this is also have influence on screen refresh.

This worked for me, too Thanks for sharing.
Anyway I will try warranty soon.
Dear guys, 12/2015 I have same issue that burning, my local warranty service ok change a new LCD, it is very OK after replacement, no burn any more. But after 6 months the same issue come back, it is hardware issue. LG always have issue about hardware in flagship more than other competitor.
Not a G4 owner but I have used a G4 before as well as a V10 and a G5, currently own the V10. This issue is present on all three devices and isn't a question of if it will happen, it's a matter of when it will happen. I noticed this issue with my display a few months ago and the entire affected area has a weird yellowish hue to it which is most noticeable on a lighter grey hue and as of now have grown used to it to a degree: still annoys me a bit. Also had a friend whom I recommended the G4 to and he had this issue with retention since he got it though he barely notices it since his phone is almost always set at 0% brightness
Anyways, at this point the main cause for this as I've said in a couple of threads is the display technology itself. I'm guessing this is one of the side effects Quantum Display has for offering near-amoled quality with vivid colors and blacks in comparison to regular LCD panels. Basically, even replacing the display is a temporary issue and still a lottery as you may get one with no issues until a year later or one that already has retention out of the box.
At this point, I might even tolerate amoled displays or non-Quantum Display lcd panels but it's too bad LG makes great phones. Oh well, just another thing to keep in mind when getting a phone from LG

I started getting this burn in and i am 95% sure that it didn't happen before. My G4 was in bootloop so i sent it back and i think that they replaced motherboard. After about 2 months of usage i started noticing this and as i said i am 95% sure that it didn't happen before motherboard was replaced, only if i didn't realise that but i am sure there was not this problem. :/ :/ :/ Is it actually possible that it is coz of motherboard replacement and that it can't be fixed even if i replace screen?!?! ((

It's not a motherboard issue but a display issue. With the G4, V10, and G5, there will be displays that will have retention out of the box or in a matter of a few months and then those who don't get it until 2 years into use or in fact, never at all. Only solution is replacing the display but that's a bit of a lottery in it of itself as you don't know if it won't have its own issues and I'd imagine constantly buying new LCD digitizers to grow costly that you might as well just buy a new phone altogether.
Bluelight Filter
Try " Bluelight Filter " app from Google store , I had the same problem until I used the app .
Hello HTC fans,
I am gonna receive my HTC 10 tomorrow and I would like to immediately look for HW failures/defects, etc. to see if I have a faulty device.
My Question is., what should I check?
- dead pixels
- Speaker issues (I dont know what to check exactly)
- Microphone issues ( how to test?
- What else?
Can you please help me out?
Thanks in advance

That was quite obvious, I just thought there are "bad-batches" but if theres nothing like that (like it was with the m7 series) I am not worried
Get it out of the box, look if your display has a red tint, if it has a red tint install Dev Check and look which display is build in (Sharp or Tianma). If it is a Sharp display and hast red tint return it, if it's a Tianma display the red tint seems to go away after some days/weeks of usage.

Exactly no reason to worry about maybe having a bad unit before you even get it. Yes there will be a bad phone here and there. Be more excited you are getting a new phone!
The first thing to do is run the diagnostics. To do this, run the Help app. On the Help screen menu tap 'Troubleshooting' or 'Diagnostics tools' to use a troubleshooting wizard to check the basic hardware functions (alternatively, dial *#*#3424#*#*).
I found red tint on my phone at the bottom of my screen which didn't disappear after 3 weeks. In the end i got rid my phone as that tint was doing my head in.

Yes had that option but I chose not to replace it as I prefer bigger screen. I thought I could live with smaller screen but clearly not. If it was 5.5 then I would have stuck with it definitely.

Personally, I'd rather just return it and get a new one if it's within the first 30 days. Seems like more of a hassle to get repaired or possibly sent a refurb in exchange.

Try some burn-in fix apps from google play, and leave them overnight.
Last solution would be replacing the oled panel.

Lol let's start by saying that you got an device with a factory problem and it's seller refuse to five you your money back... that's really bad! You have to do something about it. If you can't do what the guy said before. Download a burn-in app, it can't get worse, can it?

I woke up Sunday to essentially a brick, Saturday I went to sleep, plugged the phone in as normal and didnt think anything else about it. I woke up Sunday however and my phone would not get a wireless connection, Bluetooth was dead and the cellular connection constantly came and went.
I assumed maybe it got a software update or something else that killed it so I initially did a factory reset which did not fix it. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth mac address showed up as "unavailable". I proceeded to use Googles flash tool through chrome and reflash the device which again did not fix it. The last hailmary was a fastboot flash of the firmware which again did not fix it. To me it looks like the modem just completely took a ****.
One thing leading up to this I noticed was my cellular connection would occasionally stop working with a exclamation symbol, my Wi-Fi would occasionally stop working as well but always came back. I chopped that up to software issues or something else as it was never a big problem. If this happens be cognitive that its very possible that modem is dying.
I have submitted an RMA with advanced replacement as the 3rd party partner does not have any parts inventory yet. Hopefully this is just a fluke and not a larger issue.
Oh my....I'm really sorry to hear this - I hope it's not a common issue either. Good luck on your RMA - make sure they send you a brand new one, and not refurbished (unless it doesn't bother you).

Damn, man. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully you get a replacement device rather quickly.
Just for curiositie’s sake
- did you bootloader unlock/ root and modify anything?
- in what kind of climate do you live? High humidity? Hot outside? Ever left your phone baking in the sun?
- Or maybe the opposite? Very cold? You used the phone outside a lot? Maybe it's a hardware design problem.
- Did you ever drop it? Maybe it's just the physical connector from the connectivity module to the motherboard that is lose, might be a design problem and could happen to anyone.

Not unlocked, its been in a case 100% of the time since I have had it and hasn't really been "dropped" on anything other than my bed. I'm in SC/USA so its not exactly the hottest or coldest of environments so pretty average same for humidity.

Are you extensively on 5G? Or use GPS navigation apps while driving around in the hot sun?
Since the Samsung 5G modem isn't on the 5nm SOC die maybe it has less tolerance to heat.

Almost 100% on 5G/Wifi and use GPS daily with AA and insurance tracking. If the phone cant handle normal use that would be a hardware flaw. It looks like a few of these have been reported on Reddit as well so hopefully the new one does not exhibit the same behavior in a few weeks.

Big uff, that does sound like a hardware flaw. I have no 5G in my area, so I'm not too happy to find a dead device couple month later down the road, when doing holiday or so
What is "normal" 5G/GPS daily use for you? How long is the phone running nonstop? Can you give us a number? Did you ever check how hot it got? According to your statement, you seem to use it as navigation - where have you placed your phone? Did the sun shine on it constantly, or was it down below the windshield where your fitting/instruments/buttons reside? Can you give us an ambient temperature of your area when you used the device?
According to many reports, the phone is already getting quite toasty when doing 5G+Navigation, so maybe a couple hours straight sunshine & that toastiness were just a tad to overkill for it's hardware.
And jea I totally agree, a device dying in 2 weeks because you used it, even extensively, is unacceptable. Maybe if you drive it nonstop with full 5G/GPS madness it is allowed to die after a year, but certainly not in less than a month.

And jea I totally agree, a device dying in 2 weeks because you used it, even extensively, is unacceptable. Maybe if you drive it nonstop with full 5G/GPS madness it is allowed to die after a year, but certainly not in less than a month.

Normal for me is to work in the morning and home in the afternoon roughly 30-35 mins drive with the phone plugged in sitting either in the cupholder or cubby so never really in direct sunlight. I never really noticed it hot to any extent and I don't game on it either so. What I mean as non stop is its constantly on wifi or 5g as we are plastered in this area.
I can say in the morning it felt a little warm when it did die but it wasn't anything completely abnormal. It felt roughly as it would charging.

Well it doesn't sound like any sort of extreme use case, so the phone definitely mustn't die in that scenario.
Just to gauge the customer care response times, have they given you an ETA?

45 mins or so waiting in chat, they shot an email over to me pretty quick but still no shipment notification. It is supposed to be landed tomorrow or the 17th.

Have the Pixel 6 Pro here, noticed that when I open the camera sometimes it will just freeze up and reboot. Does this about 10 times a day. I tried reflashing the FULL OTA and Factory Images to no avail thinking it was software. So after two...

I did advance replacement which means they are shipping a new phone. If had sent it in I am sure they could have easily done that but we shall see.
