Fifth HTC One V - HTC One V

Currently on my 5th handset after having 4 replaced by warranty and 1 by repair and none will read my SIM card. Tried everything from other SIM cards to a new SIM card to restoring to factory settings etc. I appear to be the only person having this problem. The network I'm on is Talkmobile.
Cheers, Craig

That sucks, man. They're probably just giving you replacements from the same batch of broken phones, or something.

What other carriers is this device on? I only know VM.

I think it's also on US Cellular and now Cricket. It's on a few other carriers in different countries but I don't know them.

That's just unfortunate

You are lucky. I had 7 same phones imported from Asia (I am in Europe) and none of them read my sim card. The phone were the grey version and all I can say is that in my 8th try from the same store I give up, took my money back and ordered a new one from another shop. This time I got the black version imported from Europe and my sim worked. There is nothing wrong with your sim. Just broken phones.

It does sound strange. Have tried switching between 2g and 3g to see if it makes any difference?

2g makes no diff, ill have to wait for a phone to use and call them, and then most likely get a new phone, then unroot mine yaya and so on lol.

If you are both T-Mob, then of course you are the same network. They don't build a new set of cell towers just for pre-paid. They just change the way they bill you.

called tmobile and it turned out to be my sim card was a older version and had switched networks too many times and couldnt connect anymore. took the one that came with the phone and got it setup and its all good again.

Well, if the memory on the SIM card is akin to flash memory, I guess it's possible.

Really? Totally believe you just dont see the logic behind it. Why would they make a sim card only be able to switch networks so many times? Makes no sense. The person you talked to probably just had no idea what they were talking about!
Pretty much every rewritabe non volatile memory technology out there has a limiter number of writes that can be performed on it before it fails. Maybe a SIM card will last for > 10 years. I don't know, I haven't been with a single provider long enough to find out. I can see where this was a logical hypothesis on the part of the rep, and since replacing the sim worked, where is the problem?

Give me a good reason to put the new SIM card in

Is there any reason to put the new SIM card that came with my phone in? I put in the same one that I've been using for years (Dash->G1->G2->SGS2) and it works fine. 4G shows at the top of the screen. I haven't tried a speed test yet, but I'd bet I get 4G speeds the same way I did on my G2.
So, what good reason is there?
Right now, there is no reason. When the wifi calling becomes available it will require the new Sim.

do you have some sort of sentimental connection to that sim? why not just use the new one to make sure yoour up to date?
Where did you guys find the new sim card? Is it in the plastic wrapper with the manual/user guide? I don't see it in the box and I haven't opened up the plastic wrapping the manual/user guide is wrapped in. Fyi I did buy my phone from a T-Mobile.

I replaced my five yr old sim card with it because my old one seemingly caused some bad 3g data issues. I found this out by swapping sim cards with a friend who just signed with T-Mobile and an SGS2. I replaced my old one with the one that came with the SGS2 and now I'm not only seeing improved 3g speeds but also better call reception.

Quick question, my sim is about 3 months old. Will it work with wifi calling when it is released or is the SIM in the box even more "updated" than a 3 month old sim?

They aren't. They are tied to IMEI's. Two things you really need it for; 1. If you want to use WiFi calling after the maintenance update in a couple weeks, you will absolutely have to have this SIM card. No questions. It will not work. 2. After time, the older SIM cards will fail. This could lead to data access, call drop, sms sending/receiving and signal issues. If you have one now to activate, saves you a call and a trip to the local store for a replacement.
In the tmobile system we have 2 classifications of Sims. 2g (your dash) and 3g (hspa+).. make your conclusions

Actually the new Sim is a completely new revision designed for the high speed 4g network. It also has the gold contacts in a different design which is part of it look at old and new Sims if you don't believe me. I forgot the name of the new Sim but its what was taught and explained for tmobile techs (tier 2 and up support). Also most stores do not have this Sim revision in yet so use the one supplied in your box. 90% of most tmobile employees have no idea about the new Sim and only guess when asked.

***T-Mobile GAB Sim Card***

So ive been doing researches cuz i would like to get my "WIFI Calling" to work...
So i called T-mobile to see they had a solution for me...
And this is what they said:
They told me that the Normal Sim Card i have is not supported to use WIFI Calling.....
So the guy said that i need to buy a "GAB SIM CARD" that supports WIFI Calling and its price is $20
I even Google it to see how they look but didn't find it...

Should i buy it or is there another way to do it without buying this SIM CARD

sim cards are and should be free from t-mobile. go to your local store.
BUT, when you got your phone (if you bought it from t-mobile) it should have come with a sim card, that supports wifi calling. That's what I had to do, had them activate the sim that came with my galaxy s2, and then started using it instead. and bam wifi calling
It sounds like you went to a dealer.
Not every t-mobile store is operated by t-mobile. Many of them are dealer stores that charge whatever they want.
Dealer stores are usually pre pay only, but there are some authorized to collect commission off contracts and that have access to t-mobiles "quickview" account software. (Quickview is the system the infamous SOC codes are set up in.)
A lot of dealers incorporate sleazy practices and do not conform to the standards set by t-mobile. They do things like charge egregious amounts of money on SIM cards, and may not honor the return polices set by t-mobile. They also sell lots of "out of production" phones they get at good deals ex. Lg-g2x for under 240 dollars wholesale and resell for over 550.
Call t-mobile and ask for a corporate store, not a dealer store.
T-mobile seems to allows this since "money is money"
As for the SIM card I don't think it has anything more than you're IMSI and your half of the encryption cypher, (for establishing a network connection) and some limited memory regarding contacts and previous network connection frequencies . . . The fact that your SIM card did not support wifi calling is most likely because t-mobile identified it a a card not to allow access to for whatever reason. I don't believe there is a technical deficiency in you're old SIM preventing such a technology, or support in you're new one for that matter.
But then again, I am no expert. If anyone knows more please share.

T-Mobile is actually using new type of SIM cards - GBA cards that allow WiFi calling via the SIM, and the device must support it as well - you must have a GBA SIM and a compatible device for this type of WiFi calling to work.
If I remember correctly, only the Galaxy S2 and the HTC Amaze support WiFi Calling through the SIM, rest of the devices have it using the app.

[Q] help with galaxy s4 not registered to network

gf reported her phone lost because it was cracked, samsung sent her a new one so now i want her old one. I put in my sim card but it says "Not register to network" im thinking maybe t-mobile blocked the phone somehow since it was reported lost but I figured there was a work around. Friend told me unlocking the phone and setting it to international radios may help but i have no idea how to do this since im new to the android community. Switching from iphone to android! So yeah, please help!

Yup, T-Mobile blocked it.. There's no legal way around it, maybe your gf calling T-Mobile to unblock it, but they'll probably charge her full price for the one they sent her.. You could try using a different carrier, but it could end up being blocked again.. You could also sell it to someone in another country, blacklist won't go past the US

There are services that will fix this for you. I payed 35$ for my blocked tmobile s4 to be repaired.
I did this with an HTC EVO 3D. It was locked for 2 years so I flashed the phone to a different carrier and it worked. You might have problems with different features but it is posibble to still use the phone. Find a cellular store that will flash it. They normally charge around 50 dollars, give or take.

That it does but due to my wedding in three weeks followed by an expensive honeymoon, I lack the funds to purchase an unlocked one from anywhere other than BestBuy currently.

I just put in the Trans #, they require a scan of the receipt anyway, so I recon it's just to cross check.

I just want to know if tmobile installed any extra software, and if so if we can uninstall it without root. My rooting days are way over.

The only T-Mobile apps on the phone are the T-Mobile visual voicemail app and the T-Mobile account app.
Edit: Their are actually a few more T-Mobile apps, I forgot because I disabled them lol.

Good to know. Thank you! Thinking about picking one up. I love my Moto X Pure, but I really miss having an HTC as my DD.
Does anyone know if the T-Mobile version has an unlocked bootloader and can install TWRP etc?

Even with the unlocked version we still had to go through HTC Dev to unlock the bootloader to install TWRP. I am willing to bet that it will be the same with the T-Mobile version.

In the meantime, everything you read for the u.s. unlocked version translates directly to the T-Mobile version.

@Behold_this the back of my device says 2PS6500 does this mean I can restore the RUU through download mode by placing the renamed zip in my SD card? Thank you in advance.
