I am switching both carriers and phones. I am moving from ATT with the SG2 to T-Mobile to the SG2.
I have invested tons of time setting up my ATT version and loads of data in my apps. I am not worried about the Mail/Exchange part I realize I will need to redo that part. What I am hoping someone can help me with a way to move over is the following: (Also I am NOT ROOTED)
1. Touchwiz screens
2. Application data from Market downloaded apps
I realize I can reinstall the apps but the data from the apps is my issue. I track expenses etc using several apps.
TIA,
ED

a couple of things re: data
as far as emails goes, if you are hooked up to Exchange Server or Gmail
your email resides on the server side, and stays there.
but if you are using POP3 emails that have been downloaded to the phone and removed from the server, then you will be stuck, unless you get Titanium Backup (which needs root) to migrate the emails over to the new phone

Well thats not the answer I was hoping for. I would prefer to not root install Titanium and reflash since I am returning the SG2 back to ATT. I don't want something to go wrong.
I'm still hoping for a better answer.

What this guy said.
Sorry if this is a noob question, but is there a way to backup or save how you setup all your app icons and widgets on the stock home screens so you can restore easily after a full wipe?
Thanks in advance!

I wish, this is actually the only reason I am contemplating returning my phone for an iphone if the 4s had 4g I would.
it didn't bother me to much when I could simply run my nandroids and pull my micro sd card out when my phone physically broke but my gNex is less then a week old and it has some sort of hardware malfunction and now I lost all my backups, and data on my media partition.
I had finally got the phone setup, but to answer your question if your not opposed to simply rooting your phone then nandroid backups, which you now need to backup your backup to your a physical pc.
It stopped receiving texts yesterday. She can send them but cant receive. she doesnt have google voice. a couple days ago or a week ago she had to reboot her phone 7 times because it locked up on her. it took 7 times to get it to restart. It is rooted with either a stock rom or just stock and rooted. i didnt do it, so I dont remember. I know it has the crappy camera on it. I was planning on putting miui on it later this month, but if that wont fix it, I will just unroot her phone and have her take it to the store. But from what Ive read it doesnt seem they will do anything? I hate to take a trip up there if it wont fix her issue.
Try a factory reset

give tech support a call before un-rooting and taking it back to the store, it may be something on their end they can handle over the phone. Its worth a try

If you can try flashing sense 1.0 rom. Say Tommytomatoe's or Gruesomewolf' or swagstr's. Then try updating profile and prl.
Sent from my lair.
I did have her update profile and prl and it didnt help any. I think she is going to call sprint tomorrow and see if there is anything they can do. Do any of you know if I put a different rom on it if it will fix it? If her phone is rooted will a factory reset mess it up? she did that on her optimus and it didnt have a compatible recovery and it messed up the phone. we thought it was bricked, but my roommate fixed it.
Factory reset will only erase all data so it won't mess up just have her export contacts to sd, get Sms backup and restore from market to. Save her texts if she wants and use titanium backup pro or mybackuproot to save all her apps and data first so. She can restore everything after the reset since she will lose it all

-Coming soon to an Evo4G near you?: [AoSP]EViL-MoD_FReEvO v0.1[Free your phone]-
Since your on a stock rooted Tom try this:
1.get msl reader off the market, its free and write down your msl code
2.dial ##data# select edit mode, it'll ask you for your msl code
3. Tap on your data profile option, hit menu and then choose restore profile.
4. Let it restart and if it doesn't restart restart the phone yourself. Let it reprovision and go through the handsfree activation, after its finished cancel the prl update
5. Let it settle now update profile first prl second, restart the phone after both is done and report back if that worked
PS that's usually what I have to do any time I have texting issues and it usually clears everything up. Plus if you call sprint tech support this is what theyll have you do

Check the memory. She may have to remove some apps. Try that before you get knee deep into unrooting . I had customer per day with similar issues.

She doesnt have google voice, that was the first thing I asked her.
She tried the 5 steps and its still not working.
gohstly sms in the market works for me =], i had same issue, i would buy pro tho or else youll have to go to the app, every time, a text is missed, its only a dollar..
so she talked to tech support and theres nothing that can be done. theyve tried everything. it wont work. can the store order her one without paying a fee, or is the only other option assurion?

Ghostly SMS
Seconded, the dual-notification system is annoying but unavoidable and I can't tell you how satisfying it is when Ghostly picks up a text you would have definitively missed.

She doesnt want to pay insurance. I talked her through unrooting it, but unrevoked forever son didnt work the two times she tried it, we were running out of time and then we tried the pc36img but her phone doesnt show bootloader option. shes using revolutionary recovery. after we tried all this, now her phone doesnt read her sd card.

I had a similar problem with the sdcard just reformat it on a pc and put it back in it should work or use a new sd card and transfer her old files

I finally have the phone and I did a factory reset, which surprise, did not fix the issue. (being sarcastic) I installed another stock rom and it works just fine. In the meantime she bought an iphone and is very happy with it, so its either going on CL or ebay. has a video docking station and a motorola bluetooth speaker. 16gb card... hope I can get 150 or more for it..

It is avoidable, just disable the notification in the sms app. Either the downloaded one or stock.
EVO 4G: Swagged Out with Swagged Out Stock+.
I have an Evo 3G roted with a ton of apps. Can I take my Titanuium backup from that phone and restore selective apps and data to my G3.
I have a couple apps that I no longer have the credentials for to re download from the app store without paying for them again.

You should be able to do that. You will need to be rooted on the GS3 in order to restore. I was able to restore some apps from my Evo 4G to the GS3 using Titanium. Not sure if all apps can be restored or not. I would not try to restore any system setting or data. That could be a problem.
If you're rooted, use titanium and it should work. Just restore the apps & app data, and not system data. Also, don't. Restore them as a batch operation, do just 2 or 3 at a time, and test them, then continue.

I can vouch and say that it does work. I moved from the HTC Evo 4G OG and used Titanium Backup to bring all of my old apps and data to my new phone. You will have to have BOTH devices rooted in order to use the backup as well as the SD card or the information.
Yes, I went from an Epic 4G to an S3 using MyBackup Pro. Restored all the app data. As long as you don't try to restore the basic system data you should be fine.
Great, that is what I was hoping for
I also went from an Evo 3D to the SGS3. Just make sure that you don't restore data that was specific for the Evo. For instance, if you have setcpu, don't restore the data because that was specifically for the E3D. Otherwise, you won't have any problems.

ok so what is the text file for when doing a nf backuo? does it restore the device from a hard brick? i just did the backup and just wanted to be sure what it was for
reboot nvbackup? Backs up IMEI, basically. There is a lengthy post (in the IMEI restore thread) about how it actually works.
Basically when flashing your emei may randomly dissappear meaning you won't use the things that a phone is for such as calling or texting. If you can't restore it only way is to replace it. So good thing you backed it up because often that gets fo gotten and is really the most important thing. Samsung phones always have to deal with these issues.

nice thanks. i also have the transformer prime and they also found a way to do nvbackup and in their post it said it helped recover from software bricks including bootloader. so i was wondering if it was the same for the s3.
