ROM Rating? - About xda-developers.com

Is it impossible to put sub forum about ROM Rating (like Google Play) so that members can put their rate and experience when using the ROM. There a lot of custom rom have been developed and it's barely hard to see which better and how many have use it.

Well the problem is that there is never a "better" Rom. Everyone has different tastes. Different strokes for different folks. Just read through each Rom thread and try a few out for yourself to find the best one for YOU.
Reading through the Rom threads will give you all the info you need.

Some questions I would ask are, what am I looking for, customization, originality, proven reliability or cutting edge. This may also help us point you in a specific direction.

Yeah, I found about the # of replies and # of views. But it not unique review per 1 member (like review and rate on Play) , when that rom have bugs, the rom thread will be filled with how to get rid bugs.
I guess it's true that we choose what we think is better from our perception, but man that's a lot of custom rom and we wipe/clear each time we install it and then re download the apps we purchase.

Well this is the whole reason we root our device, you get to try out the latest and greatest for your device. In many cases, if you don't want to play around as much as what you say, use a stock rooted rom. These are normally set up with refinement to optimize your device. While the rom is based on stock, the devs will normally tweak them for better performance.
When it comes to loading apps and launchers watch this for app backup
Titanium BU * Root
&
itanium BU PAID version... Well worth the money, can cut time and steps in half
And if setting your desktop is a pain, every time you flash something. Try this launcher which has a function to back up your launcher settings (Mind you, most paid launchers will offer this ability. This is one of three I have and seems to be the simplest)
Nova Launcher basic This will at least get you started.
&
Nova Launcher Prime. This offers features you'll realize makes life much easier.
So here are a few basic things you can do, to make the transition from one rom to another, much easier. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND, to use these Titanium, you need be rooted. To use free Nova launcher, you do not.

best/most reliable/most updated kernel

So I've noticed there are a ton of kernels out there for the GN, and I know you can't exactly say which is best...but I'm looking for the one that has the most support or is the most stable right now. I just got mine a couple days ago, so I'm looking to root and ROM it (no stranger to android or rooting/ROMing) and I figured those in the community would be able to tell me which ones are basically dead and which ones are not.
Thanks in advance!

Haha well that's a first. Most of my previous devices had only 1 or 2 main kernels that were constantly kept up to date, and the others were just attempts to make one, or ones that went defunct.

mods can we start issuing bans for these threads?
Trinity and Franco have a lot of users and their threads are very active - should be able to sort out any issues you might have. Also both kernel devs are pretty active in the threads as well. And both have choices of extremely stable builds as well as experimental ones for the more adventurous. Try out each for a week or so and you'll get a good idea. There are others too, obviously, like Lean and Air Kernel etc but I've spent the most time with the afore mentioned so I can't speak for the others. I'm currently on Trinity 1536/384-stable35 and I can honestly say its been going wonderfully well.

id rather have mods ban posts like yours. stop reading these threads and responding in them. you are just making it worse for everyone, not the tread starters. this IS why we have a general section and Q&A. xda search is not reliable enough anyways. imagine how many posts could have been saved by you not responding/not responding in this way. if your going to respond, at least be helpful to the op.
@jdcnosse my preference is for trinity, but both trinity and franco kernel are good, and they are both constantly getting updated. but i suggest you try as many as you can so that you can find one that your device likes the best.

Let's keeps these posts non argumentive and let's keep them informative. I see no issue with them.

+1 on experimentation. If I were to give MY choice. It would be Trinity. I have stuck with it since I got my phone. I've tried a few, but I enjoy Trinity the best. Franco, as stated before, is another good choice. I've used both their kernels on my Nexus S with good results

This thread will serve as a reminder of why we decided to keep our phone stock. Tell us your reason!
So, I made a promise to myself. I will keep my bootloader locked, phone unrooted, and stay away from any real customization. I have tried many ROMs, kernels, etc and I have yet to find a better configuration than stock.

Its much easier to troll with a stock phone? This is like going on a car website to ask who likes riding bicycles.

Stock ROMs do not feel as sluggish because they are odexed.
Custom kernels make your device act up sooner or later. That's the reason why those threads have MILLIONS of views and thousands of comments. Troubleshooting never ends. Besides, if these kernels were really making an improvement on user experience, Google would hire these people, right?
Custom ROMs, is that extra navigation button or battery percentage worth all the time you will spend flashing new versions, reading XDA, helping other members troubleshoot? I have always noticed that person A creates a ROM, person B is the #1 fanboy which spends all day in the thread answering all kinds of questions and dismisses any reports of problems with his Master's creation. Person A barely communicates with person B.
I could list more...

thank you OP for ignorantly venting your personal issues with custom roms on xda. No, custom roms likely are not for you since you are looking for stability and out of the box usage. Custom roms are for those who are looking to learn and develop and push the boundaries of our devices. As with any rom here YMMV.
This will undoubtedly go nowhere. The reason why we are here is to improve our phones and our experience with our device. So you will get a lot of members that will not take kindly to this, so I am going to close it before it gets to that point. Thank you for understanding. :highfive:

An idea: Why not have one thread (it can be a sticky on top) that allows for people to post their experiences with ROMs. That way, people can read up on pros and cons in that thread. We could even look to have a poll for people to vote. I think there should be a good summary section of all these ROMs so people can narrow their options down a little.
The People's ROM has been my daily so far, BTW.

Actually thats the rom thread already. A rom i run on my phone might not run the same way on your phone, so feedback on pros and cons of a rom depends on the user phone. Its not hard looking through a changelog and comments/feedback to pick out a rom of choice.

Cruise threads. Find a rom, read what people have said (last few post typically) flash and try for yourself. These threads pop up and get taken down almost daily. Please spend a bit of time trying them out and reading a bit on them. You will find a good fit.

Honestly it depends on what you're looking for if you're looking for a true Android experience or if you like the TouchWiz experience or any other launcher for that matter.
Personally I like wicked sensations which is a TouchWiz rom and everything seems to work good on it including wifi tether in TouchWiz which is a rare thing to find. I will warn you that wicked sensations is way overly themed so if you want something a little more stock you may want to try blazer ROM the only catch is that wifi tethering is not working.
If you're looking for something that isn't TouchWiz you may want to try Cyanogen mod I know it's kind of mainstream and all but it works and it's generally what I look for it's more of a pure Android experience and everything works including wifi tethering USB tethering.
With that being said I would recommend trying a bunch of different ones make sure you're comfortable with flashing your phone before doing this. Every ROM has its flaws and benefits just make sure your verifying that it's for your phone before flashing.

LEGENDARY was a great rom! Now that was over a year ago, a different device and Gingerbread. This and the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry post are the reasons that this question while at the moment you thought about it it sounded right but it's really useless. Every one who advised you to go to the Development threads and read and try them out is right.
By the way I like 'Rocky Road'

[Q] Which ROM(s) have the best battery performance

In your experience, which ROMs have given you the best performance. I was using Jellytime R29 and I could go almost 12 hours with normal usage before having to tether it to a charger. Now I have RC4 installed and it barely makes it past lunchtime. I'd go back to R29 but i'd like to have a speakerphone.
What are some of your personal experiences with battery life on the Inspire 4g? Also, I purchased a brand new battery for this unit so that's sort of out of the question.
Also somewhat related, is there a way we can run benchmarks so that we can post our results of battery life on a normal day. Like is there an app that sort of oversees the battery and prints out a nice report.
Better battery stats.
I have a ROM with great battery life. It's called the 'see all the ROMs for yourself' ROM. Seriously, read the damned rules. lt's forbidden and frowned up to post threads like this

Half your question - how to monitor battery - is a reasonable question. However, the other half, which is what us "forum Nazis" refer to as "best ROM threads," tend to:
1. Be highly subjective. Each person's need/want and each phone (yes, even though the models are the same) is different.
2. Because such questions are so subjective, these threads (which do pop up a lot) tend to simply devolve into flaming and unconfirmed opinions. That is why mods usually frown upon and close such threads - to head off the mess.

Hit up the ROM Review. Also, what is your skill level and what are you looking for in a "ROM".
Stock Based
Agent- Beginner user that likes stock but wants more control and performance tweaks
Lifeless- Flashaholic that like bells and whistles and predefined goodies
Initiative- Advanced user that want a minimal base to build to suit.
AOSP/CM Based (some things are still broken but gives you "I has the latest" bragging rights)
CM- Flashaholic that loves him some Cyan Jellies
AOSP Eos 4.0- Flashaholic prefer to get as close to pure Android as possible while getting some nice bells and whistles

I've been want to root this phone soo bad, but there are some downsides is that.. I messed up the battery life due to previous phone I had when I constantly charge it every time the battery dies within 5 hours or so, (I'm in school for 8 hours, graduating senior) and the reception gets sucky some parts of school (normal with everyone's phones that school blocks the receptions) and some areas in Newport News. I have this phone for two weeks now and I really love it. Is there any pro and cons to this ROM as posted for link? I love the minimalistic look.

Thanks about for the link. One other question. I've been trying to get the YouTube app UI to look like the 3D-ish the way it does on tablet.
