No problem. Let us know how it works!

Same item is available on US Ebay site for about $US 24. I think I'm going to spring for one, too. Anybody who gets one, please report back on how it works!

Damn my sceptical nature.
I'm looking at this and thinking the price is just too perfect, Not too hot, Not too cold just right in the Goldilocks zone and can't help but thinking someone's still trying to scam me.
But I'm gonna beat my head against the wall a few times and force myself to give this one a shot.

Good question. I do see the power cable has to be plugged into this but I've wondered that myself.

Yes it charges the phone, but that is neccesary otherwise your phone will be dead very soon.

wondering if one could turn the phone display off while using this... but playback and other functions would still work the battery down to a nub very quickly of course

Not possible, the MHL adapter projects what's on your s3's screen, so your tv shows some nice black when you turn off the screen

Thanks for sharing! Been waiting such a long time for a cheap alternative. This still isn't as cheap as the generic 5pin MHL though...
Looking forward to an update before I jump on the wagon.

But a 5 pin won't work with GS3 unless you purchase another adapter.

Yeah, I knew that, I comparing the price to the generic 5pin MHL adaptor which we could use if samsung didn't decide to change to 11pin.
I guess it will never be as cheap since its a niche product for the S3.

This might sound silly but my TV doesn't have a HDMI port (it's pretty old but still slim)
Is there any other type of converters like scart to micro usb (sounds unlikely)

Same here. After doing some research it looks like an unbranded Samsung MHL adapter for the S3. The picture isn't clear enough to get the model number for comparison, but I'm pretty sure after looking at the FCC markings and other things that don't line up with the new S2 MHL adapter. :good:
Ordered it a few mins ago

This one's $20 shipped.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-MHL-T...063258?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3f1c05845a
Looking forward to hearing feedback from someone who gets one of these generic adapters.

I spoke with Monoprice's customer service last week and they said they plan on having their own compatible S3 MHL cable before October. I'll probably wait until then as I know theirs will work and should be fairly cheap.

Down to $22 eh? Last I checked the knock-offs were $30, and the samsung official was $40 (now $35).
I'm going to get one of these 11pin mhl-hdmi cables when they finally drop down to $10 like the S2's is, mainly because the 5-to-11 adapter I'm using on my 5pin S2 cable is TOO WIDE for my incipio silicrylic case (and most others) so I have to bend the silicone down. So, fair warning about the adapter for the adapter

Has anybody received one of these from eBay yet? If so, how well does it work?

I've seen a few too many discussions regarding plugging in subpar adapters into these phones that have caused problems. So I may be a bit paranoid but I think I'll stick with official Samsung adapters. Good price though if it works.

[Q] Did your Epic Touch come with a HDMI/USB adapter?

Watched a few video reviews of unboxing. Some are getting the usb to hdmi adapter and some aren't. I'm wondering if this is how wirefly and letstalk are selling theirs so much cheaper. Bad business, but maybe they are taking the adapter out before shipping, and then planning on reselling it as new?? If you have the phone please list where you got it and whether you got the adapter or not.

I believe the "reviewer's devices" are the ones that come with the MHL adapter. I've read that consumer's version of the phone wont come with it. Luckily I bought mine ages ago when I had the Evo 3D.
I doubt any retailer is removing the MHL adapter. (unless you ordered your phone from Gamestop, that is).
The more likely explanation is that reviewers were also sent MHL adapters so that they could give more complete reviews. It's just a sign of the times that retail devices lack connectivity components. At least phones still come with AC adapters and USB cords (knock on wood).
I just find it strange that the box even has a compartment for it, but its empty with some of the reviews.

thoughts on HDMI/MHL

Engadged says the galaxy nexus has the same chip for MHL/HDMI as the galaxy s 2 and infuse 4g. Strange most people don't report it. Also being a google device I thought that everything on the phone would have its API for developers but I found nothing on android 4.0 reference about video output or multiple screen.
Older nexus were well documented in functionality or not?
I'm thinking if it could become a portable media center
https://twitter.com/#!/romainguy/status/127449572845957120
What is the XDA recommended MHL adapter? I'm assuming they are not going to add this into the box with the Nexus.
Probably samsung mhl is best bet. I think it can be had for $29 on amazon. Monoprice sells one and most reports have been good. A lot of people dont like the t action going on with the usb cinnection on it though.
I voided my warranty and your nexus.
Does MHL support analog audio output? Or is it digital audio via HDMI only?
EDIT: should've done some reading, looks like MHL supports digital audio only. But the Galaxy S apparently does have an analog audio line out sent using the same wires as the USB connector when it detects it's connected to the Samsung dock. I wonder if the Galaxy Nexus can do the same...

Yes, the one sold for the Galaxy S2 should work. If one wants a cheaper alternative they can check out this one from DealExtreme. The manufacturer claim they are using Samsung chips according to DX staff. One could throw in a USB OTG cable as well since I assume that won't be included in the box either.

The ones i've seen is a micro usb cable that goes to a small box where there is another micro usb plug(for non-mhl compatible displays, mhl compatible displays should apparently be able to work without the extra power) and a HDMI plug.
Here's an example of one: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-...2-i9100-i997-htc-g14-z710e-p510e-black-104139
I got the SGS 2 MHL adapter and it didn't work at first. I rebooted the phone and then it worked.
I was going to order an adapter from amazon last night but rethinking it im going to wait until the end of the month and get the desk dock which will have mhl support built in and has an hdmi port on the side for connecting to a tv or monitor.
Still ended up getting an HDMI lead from amazon for 49p though lol .

Hopefully they will start hitting ebay soon as hate seeing my phone laying on the desk rather than standing proudly like my HD2 did

So best place to buy the MHL adapter?

I'm willing to bite for the full price of the Samsung MHL adapter just because I know the S3 has some problems without the official one. Anyone know of the best place to buy it? Amazon shows one but it ships from the UK and the one on Samsung's site is not compatible. Is it not out yet?
Anyone else picking it up?
I don't think it is out yet but yes, I might be getting one. It will be a whole lot easier surfing the web on my tv via the phone than using the clunky tv remote control.
I remember reading some post of a user buying one from ebay for about 9 bucks and it worked brilliantly.
i may take a chance on monoprice

I have gotten lots of good things from them including a 75ft HDMI CL2 cable for $30 shipped and a universal GPS mount that works great for any phone for like $5 shipped....and it's never been junk really, always decent quality, very happy with them over the years for any type of audio/video/cable/adapter
only thing is no way to know if it is compatible yet until someone bites, so I may do it one day soon
Well my only thing about some of the non Samsung ones is I read they don't output 1080p if that matters to you.

I personally prefer OEM items. They usually sell for around $11.
eBay, Amazon.
I already checked with Monoprice and they said that their adapter is not compatable with the S3. The Monoprice adapter is a 5 pin adapter and Samsung changed the S3 to an 11 pin adapter. There is a 5 pin - 11 pin adapter available. Most of the mhl adapters out are 5 pin and will not work with the S3. That is what I have been told. The Samsung mhl adapter is $40. You could get the Monoprice 5 pin mhl for $11 and a 5 pin - 11 pin adapter for another $10. That would work but I would personally wait for a cheaper 11 pin mhl adapter to come out than hook up multiple adapters.
constant power needed?
I was really interested in getting one of these but it looks like you will need to have an HDMI cable AND a micro USB connected to a wall socket for the MHL adapter to work... is this true, and if so, is it worth all the cable hassle?

Yes please let us know what they tell you. I thought they flipped the pins so only the official Samsung adapter would work. If 720P works, I'd be totally fine with that...

Its a no go with those:
" Regarding our MHL adapter and the upcoming release of the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. We have tested and confirmed that the S3 uses a different pinout in regards to MHL, so our current MHL device will not work for it. We have already put in a suggestion for a device that will fully support the new S3, and we are actively working on cases and other accessories for the S3 as well. "

Fixed that for you. most peole are buying ones made for the s2, which does not work without an adapter. there is only 1 or 2 aftermarket S3 ones at the time of this posting.
Did anyone try this one? I'm over an hour from Microcenter so I'm hoping a sucker.....uh, I mean fellow XDA user will give it a go

Most of MHL adapter say they fit for Note/S2/S3 and this is not possible if it does not include an extra piece (5 to 11 pins adapter), so I would only buy a non official MHL adapter for S3 if it clearly says that it only allows the S3 or/and it says it has 11 pins...
WHat is the cheapest MHL adapter that will work with the S III? And I mean one that works correctly. The official Samsung one is so crazy expensive. I wonder why no other companies have come out with one yet? Haven't they figured out the new port config?
Most MHL cables are 5-pin so those are out of the question. The only MHL cable that is 11-pin is the official $40 samsung one.
What you can do is get the $11 5-pin cable and hook it up to the $10 official samsung 5 to 11 pin converter. This way it will work the Galaxy S3 for only $21.
My local AT&T store carries the official Samsung S 3 mhl adapter but they are telling me that it doesn't do anything but play videos. He went on to say that mhl cable for the Samsung Infuse only worked for movies specifically. Is that much true or was he full of sh##? He didn't cross me as being very educated about android.
You can check videos on youtube by yourself to see how the MHL adapter mirrors your phone's screen in your HDTV. Most people selling tech-stuff know very few about what they 're actually selling, even support services provided by most companies like Samsung are quite useless since they do not know enough their products...

Best MHL HDMI Adapter on the Market

Hey guys,
I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I am looking for an MHL HDMI adapter for my HDTV. I don't mind spending cash if it means I get the best quality, best picture and best sound from this piece of hardware. Otherwise, should I find out that MHL HDMI adapters don't make a difference then I will defiantly go for the best bargain. Which would you guys recommend, given these circumstances?
Thanks!!
HDMI is digital, which means that poor equipment would affect your signal only after meters of distance.

I got SKIVA from amazon some time ago and it works flawlessly.
The only problem is that many apps don't work in landscape more only portrait which becomes annoying.
You can even pair a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard to it.
Also you need your phone to be attached to a high power outlet because the battery gets drained fairly quickly.

I had a Samsung MHL to HDMI Adapter and it went out on me. Probably because it wasn't a real Samsung or for older phones. But I just tested Menotek last night and it worked flawlessly as well. Never tried SKIVA but I would also like to know which one is the best....
this cable makes the picture / video is displayed on the TV with the resolution 1080p?
One thing I would like to add is video isn't as smooth as it should be. I think that's because I was trying to play 1080p from phone to monitor over the cable.
I don't think my GNex is powerful enough to handle that over HDMI although it plays 1080p fine which are stored in the phone.

I use an original Samsung MHL Adapter. Works beautifully. Microusb goes into your phone and a standard full sized hdmi cable goes into the other. However, there is a microUSB IN port where you need to supply power to the adapter too. I use my external battery pack to power it.
Cost me like $15 from Deal extreme. Quite happy with it.

I have/use the official Samsung OEM MHL adapter too, $7 on eBay from China! Woo!
The problem, and I guess this is MHL adapters in general, the way the GalNex/Android is set up, but the screen has to stay on to display to the TV, obviously it's a necessity for navigating, but like with Netflix one should be able to shut off the screen.
Anyway, watching Netflix at least, battery drains slowly when plugged in, major flaw IMO... anyone else have this issue?
What about a MHL ADAPTER that'll work with Galaxy Nexus and Nexus7?
I got a generic mhl from amazon that was advertised as Samsung branded but wasn't. It works okay with gnex but not nex7. It requires a micro USB power source while plugged into the phone, so I'm able to use it indefinitely.

AFAIK Nexus 7 doesn't support mhl. Sorry
I just use a cheap no-brand mhl I bought on gmarket (Korean shopping site), it has a plug for power in to the adapter near the HDMI plug. Works perfectly with my gnex and my wife's Optimus LTE 2.

Correct me if I am wrong but pretty sure nexus 7 doesn't have any kind of mhl support or drivers. This kept me away for it and Google wants us to "stream" content therefore no support. I hope nexus 10 will have mhl support.

Are you complaining about the battery drain using MHL adapter during playback??
If yes than that is not a flaw, check which wall charger you are using, i am guessing it's 0.5A or 1A.
I use a 2A charger while using MHL support which instead of draining the battery, charges it so i suggest you look into that, infact i use 2A charger all the time for charging. Some say that it decreases the life of the battery but it charges the phone fairly quickly.
2A wall chargers cost around $4 on ebay.

Samsung HDTV Adapter + CyanogenMod 12 Android Lollipop
Good afternoon
I have recently bought the original Samsung HDTV adapter for my Galaxy Nexus and there is a thing which interests me so much that I need to ask if anyone of you has ever found the answer for such a question, i.e. 'is this adapter compatible with the custom ROM or is it just the stock ROM that would work with this ROM?
Any feedback highly appreciated :good:

I use an original Samsung MHL Adapter. Works beautifully. Microusb goes into your phone and a standard full sized hdmi cable goes into the other. However, there is a microUSB IN port where you need to supply power to the adapter too. I use my external battery pack to power it.
Cost me like $15 from Deal extreme. Quite happy with it.
