Arconium ICS 2 got music player buttons on lock screen and status bar... Also is clean, super fast and stable
Arconium 2.0 is great!

It is Rooted.
May give it a whirl then! Please ignore my ignorance but are there any major omissions? Such as video, hdmi...?

Dilemma
Hi, I'm currently undecided between Mooded's ICS rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717 and Arconium ICS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515148.... Any advice?? Or any suggestions for other roms?? Am looking for something stable and fast and..well.. generally awesome lol...Any help is appreciated... They both seem quite the same based on what im reading.. Mooded's ICS can update OTA? how big would the updates be?? when it says OTA does it download the whole package again??
JJ Hybrid
I would suggest JJ hybrid Rom as the Xperia Launcher ROMS become slow with time. I have been using JJ for quite sometime and I am pretty happy with it. Make sure you first do a FULLWIPE before installing this ROM. It has given me great battery life and unparalleled performance. Just try it and I am sure you wont regret it.
1) Install latest Sony ICS baseband via flashtool.
2) Install stock Sony Kernel + CWM recovery.
3) Do a full wipe: i.e.Factory Reset, clear cache, clear Dalvik Cache and then format system.
4) Install JJ.
Make sure you sync all your contacts with Google before installing.
I would say Arconium ICS...its smooth..it has same look as stock..i m sure u will be satisfied with this ROM
If you care about games, ICS is not great with them, I tried Arconium ICS and while being a great ROM I wasn't able to play Temple Run, that's a common problem with every ICS rom from what I've read
So, if you don't care about games, go straight for it xD
Thanks guy for your reply =) so i installed Mooded's ICS rom anyway and I'm kinda liking it.
@romiltherock
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Can i know what's your antutu benchmark score and the configurations you use? kernel, cpu freq, etc etc...
@arpith.fbi
I've tried arconium and comparing it to mooded i think i'll go with mooded.. mooded offer update OTA (i havent tried) and also included notification bar toggle, 3 launchers to choose from , custom themes, battery mod, etc etc.. also, using the same config @1.4Ghz, performance governor, moving from arconium to mooded gave me +100 in Antutu.
@Shark107
The games issue seems to be on the game's devs..so i'll just wait for the update from Imangi. ICS is so much "smarter" lol.. besides games gets boring but not customizing your phone. it never gets old lol
KA 17.2
I'm Using KA 17.2 atm, KA16 had several errors where you get a frozen screen when using browser or playstore.
Now with 17.2 my phone is terrible slow, dont know if I did anything wrong -.-
Next thing to try for me is Cyanogen ...
Modded ics is best one i am using it with 1 ghz n lagfree profile
No lag awsome performance
Battery drain in sleep mode is too low 1 % in 2 hours or 3 hourz

OK.. So every phone i have ever owned i have rooted, Kernels, anything and everything.
But here is my problem.. I have recently updated (manually) to the new ICS on my epic 4g touch.
I have tried all the roms pre this release and never had 100% luck with any so normally always ran stock os plus root.
I want to know if A) there are new roms post this recent update, B) if i root to another pre-existing rom is it going to mess it all up again.
Basically i want like CM10 out or something. Something made specifically for how the phone is now...
Any suggestions?? Im tired of stock. I want to customize!!! :crying:
Depends how custom you want to go. If you want to flash custom theme and modz, you must go with a deodexd ROM.
But if you want AOSP-ish look, agat has a very good stable and themed FF18 ROM he calls tFF18. It has a simple look, much different than stock tho, but it's built with a custom kernel and based off Samsung, not CM9 or 10
not sure if that helps.

The upcoming aosp builds should see a large improvement if it's of any interest to you

It does help!. So if i get this right... ANY deodexed rom or another option is tFF18. And these are both based off our current rooms so that EVERYTHING WORKS

Anything t look into specific??? As far as AOSP roms go, ive tried them in the past, but are you saying their newer version ones are friendly to the latest update?

Yes everything works. tFF18 is odex, so you can't change much of the ROM but it works incredibly smooth and stable. Also, practically all DEODEX'd ROMs have the hacked sprint hot spot for tethering. Stock and odex roms require the Wifi Tether app which is easily found by googling "wifi tether apk"

Aosp is nice and light weight, makes it super snappy, but you lose a couple convenient features from samsungs touch wiz UI.. My main gripe with going aosp/aokp is that my camera doesn't perform as well, where IMO Samsung did a nice job with the software.

hi..
still on rooted stock GB R800i with locked BL... having plans on flashing CFWs...
i just wanna ask if what is the best ROM / Kernel combination..? preferably bug-free.., light and with the least compatibility issues known...
thanks..
additional question...
what ROM should i go for..? GB or ICS based...? what are the pros and cons..?
I'm currently using NXT by Krisdee. It's smooth and fast, and I haven't encountered any bugs yet. The pros of GB are that they are generally more stable, and support more games (EA stopped supporting ICS or something). I personally like using ICS. It has some nice features, like the data traffic monitor, and I prefer the overall look of ICS. But if you want gaming (though touchpads do work on ICS I think), battery life, and generally a more stable rom, go for GB.
you mean to say that all things are working on the NXT ROM..? i mean wi-fi, camera and others..? i've read some ROM reviews and users reported bug stating that their cam is not working or is unable to tether..

There is a solution to fix "cannot connect to camera" error. Go to settings > quick panel settings > widget buttons, untick LED flashlight, and done. As for tether, it works for me, maybe they did something wrong during the installation. As long as you follow the instructions, you'll have a bug free and stable rom without problems.
If you're a hardocore gamer , i'd recommend sticking to any GB rom , as you'll have a better lag-free gaming experience
for a good GB Rom i'd recommend either NXT 1.3 by Krisdee , or DiXperia 2 by Dikej
I myself prefer ICS for the extra features and better UI , and bear in mind that i don't use my phone for gaming as much as i did before so i don't know how much you'll compromise your gaming experience by using ICS
examples for good ICS Roms : Stock ICS by MarkPhyton "doesn't have any bugs AFAIK" , and the one i'm using now is ICS Pureness ported by Sechko , i prefer it for the better theming and less bloat to deal with
a good non-stock ICS rom is AOKP rom and MIUI By ComicDan , i had no issues dealing with both of them , but i just preferred Stock based Roms
NXT Rom 1.3 is the best rom available now, lucky u don't have to unlock bootloader and change kernel to have it.
Only one bug: when recharge the phone while it"s off, the phone turns itself on. Just this one

I don't think that's a bug. Every rom does that, and it gives you the advantage that you would still be able to turn on your phone if your power button broke.

hi i tried miui rom devoloped by cosmicdan. now its removed due to the bugs. i want to go for the ICS pureness by sechko. but the fact is i cant flash a kernel with CWM. only the kernel image is loading and nothing more. i tried "lupus ics beta and doomkernell" what should i do? do i need to go to the stock kernel again? can you tell me how to get into the pureness....
Lol, you need to flash it on your pc.

You don't flash kernels via CWM, it's done via your pc, you can search the forums on how to flash a kernel

surely
surely
SURELY " MIUI Australia " is the #1 => made by " Dan " magical man
after that , markphyton's official rom
after that , sechko's ICS and miui
in the end trueancesor
If you really want a bug free rom why dont you stick with stock. Who can make a better rom other than the manufacturer?
Hey all
lately I noticed that my stock android 4.2.2 (not rooted) has become a bit sluggish sometimes. I like stock android but I feel as if the GNex is really running on the edge now in 2013 if I compare to the newest hi-tek android devices/Iphone 5 etc.
Could flashing a custom rom improve the speed and smoothness ? Also maybe I'd like to try out hybrid mode like you have in PA. I also heard a lot of good stuff about Sorcery, don't really know what would suit me the best.
Do you guys think rooting + flashing a custom rom would still my hunger for a new phone for some time still ?
Hope to have some tips that can move me into the right direction. Nonetheless I still love my GNex but I hate when it lags a bit sometimes..

Yes, it could. A new home launcher also could improve speed and smoothness.
Yeah, I think for sure you will be content with your phone longer if you try different ROMs on it occasionally, or even just recieving new updates to a current ROM.
sure dude why not.. if u root u can overclock and thus increasing your performance, rom selection is self choice related try every rom and kernel and stick to the one you love

What are the most performance/smoothness based roms ? Or is it more a kernel thing ? Although I don't want to experiment with 1001 settings and kernels on a rom before I get it right. I reckon that a developer puts a stable kernel together with the rom he makes and releases..

Everyone has their own favorites. I personally recommend you try the newest stable CM, or even the M series if you prefer the newest features before the are implemented in to the stable builds.
Stick to the prepackaged kernel so you don't develop issues from using a third party kernel on a ROM it wasn't designed for.
That's my preference, hope you find yours. "Best ROMs" or "smoothest ROMs" threads get closed quick around here.

Ok thx, should try out CM then maybe, seems the most logical step too. I consciously didn't use the words "best rom" , as that's indeed each one to its own. Though, smoothness is imo an objective thing.
One of the best things about flashing a custom Rom and Kernel is the Fast Charge support! Pretty much if you just use a standard USB port on your PC it will charge as fast as a wall charger.

First question... Have you rebooted in awhile?
Second question... How many background tasks are constantly running.
Custom ROM/Kernel makes sense only if you go for a minimalistic ROM/fine-tuned kernel. Honestly, Stock ROM is fine, unless you need features missing. Or look for just straight optimized ROMs like RasBeanJelly Vanilla and others that are only trying to fix bugs and not add bloat.
Kernel, pick your flavor, but always go with 'stable' ones and not nightlies if you want to avoid issues.
For me, I do Stock ROM (or would consider RasBeanJelly Vanilla) at best, and Franco Kernel (though stock is good enough).
Another point... Key Lime Pie (v. 5.0) will be announced likely in a few weeks at Google I/O 2013. Why deal with unlocking the bootloader, flashing ROMS, and Kernels, then to have to wait for source code to be released to get the newest and latest?
Bootloader was unlocked from the day I got it (to go from yakjuxw to takju). Now I just rooted my phone with custom bootloader, but it's still on stock takju. Do I still get the Google OTA's ? Iirc I need the stock bootloader for this ?
Have you tried to wipe data?
You can try this first if you like stock. If you want to try a smooth custom rom I recommend you xylon + ak kernel.

I believe TWRP and CWM will allow you to install OTAs, but you need to have stock kernel and no other system apps that are not apart of Google's stock Android. However, you wouldn't wait anyways for OTAs since you can just flash the updates that appear on XDA once they arrive. Either via fastboot or the custom recovery (if they work).
If you go to a custom ROM, you will not receive OTAs, (or shouldn't if the ROM was built right). You will have to wait for the ROM to be upgraded by the maintainer of it.
dude try something new other than stock..
CM 10.1 + ak diamond
governor = ondemand
stable,good speed..
give it a try

Not sure if by mistake but, (as of the date of this post) there's no custom bootloader for any of the GSM/LTE variants of the Google Galaxy Nexus.
What he's talking about is a custom recovery. (This needed correction so as to not to mislead readers.)

Good point you're right, sorry should have been more clear.
I'm indeed talking about a custom recovery, not bootloader. Atm I only have lockscreen policy with clock hack and SuperSU/SuperUser apps who use the root. Is this enough to prevent me from having google OTA's ? Still didn't get to flashing another rom lol, I guess I like stock. And it might be between my ears but having rebooted + rooted the phone made it feel snappier again.
Thanks for all the feedback guys.

Again, if you alter system files the OTA will fail, if it needs to update those.
Well my (noob) question was if above mentioned things such as ClockHack who need SuperSU permission altered my system files?
I am using Purity with Leankernel. Gives me a smooth experience and great battery life.
Also it has the PIE and you can use XPosed framework to get Per App DPI with any ROM like I do.
But I have tried almost all the ROMS in the development section except for a couple maybe. I keep returning to Purity, Vanir and Cataclysm most of the time when I have something important come up and I cannt flash a new ROM every other day.

Hi.I have successfully converted my phone to e975 from f180l and I want your opinion on flashing a kitkat rom(doesn't matter which one,I mean in general) People who are using a kitkat rom,is it better than the stock one?
or shall I wait until the official kitkat update from lg(official kdz I mean if that's gonna happen)?
its your choice if to upgrade or not.... stock rom or stock modded are best for battery life......if you bother about about battery life..you can flash any 4.4 roms.. ..
I vote yes. simply because i love trying something new. and having many choices are good.
then test all roms u can find
u can tly miui, my fav. but its 4.1 try!!
by kk u have many roms here! its ur play and our playground, so test what u can dont forget nandroid backup!

Well atm I'm switching between cm11 and miui, it's nice to have two backups I can just switch between and I have my most needed stuff. For me this works just as Good as only having 1. But yeah, I don't like stock tom, and you can get good battery life with other 4.4 Roms, so dont worry about that. Go ahead and try it out, there's nothing to lose .

Stock is still the best IMHO whenever I use CM something is always missing or broken.
But what do we actually get from 4.1 to 4.4(if stock)?? Whats the big difference for ordinary user?
Like Win XP vs Win 7 vs Win 8. Of course we have to update to Win 7 to take advantage of DX11 but I don't think we have to update to Win 8 for a reason that its NEW, Just like what happen to Kitkat its new but for what? Maybe thats the reason why LG doesnt bother much to update because most of the apps/games only require you to install 2.3 and up
I have recently installed kitkat 4.4 cm11 and and I am having force close problems (not many) but still it restarts the device and lockscreen becomes unresponsive
So yes it is problematic but it is way way better than stock in terms of RAM usage and response
I am searching for a stabler ROM if you have know such stable kk ROM do tell
